DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Doris Morris Stevens, 59, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Ms. Stevens died Wednesday, Oct. 3, in her residence after an illness. Born in Madison County, Alabama the daughter of the late Johnny and Florence Reeves Morris, she was a former salesperson for Heilig-Myers Furniture Co. She was Baptist by faith and a member of the vFW.
Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Roz and vickie S. Longo and Tammie S. Evans, all of Darlington; four grandchildren, Ashley Howle, Blake Evans, Jarett Evans and Dominick Longo; two brothers, Larry Morris and Paul Morris, both of Winchester, Tenn.; two sisters, Betty Bates of Winchester, Tenn., and Mary Outlaw of Calumet City, Ill.; and her fiancˇ, Frank Sessoms of Darlington.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Friday, at the residence at 307 Spears St., Darlington.

CHARLES HOPKINS
Funeral services for Charles Lawrence Hopkins, 57, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jahon McGee will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Hopkins died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of Eliza Morrison Hopkins and the late Willie Hopkins. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. for 38 years and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He was retired from the S.C. National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Tyner Hopkins of Hartsville; sons, Charles Hopkins Jr. and Anthony Hopkins, both of Hartsville, and Bryan Hopkins of Patrick; mother of Hartsville; brother, Wayne Hopkins of Hartsville; grandchildren, Anthony "Amp Man" Hopkins Jr. and Elizabeth "Punk" Hopkins.
BETTY BASS LYNCH
Funeral services for Betty Bass Lynch, 70, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Bill Perry will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Billy Hardee Boys Home in Darlington.
Mrs. Lynch, widow of William Lynch, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Allene Chapman Bass. She was a member of Hartsville Community Fellowship.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Donna Lynch, Bucky and Cookie Lynch, Billy Joe and Lori Lynch, all of Hartsville; brothers, James Edward Bass and William Eugene Bass, both of Hartsville; sister, Patsy Newsome of Newport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jamie Lynch, Elisia Canning, Emmie Lynch, Carley Lynch, Brian Lynch, Shelly Lynch, Russell Lynch, Channing Lynch, Grace Lynch, Leah Lynch, Benjamin "Samson" Lynch.

Services for Willie Leach, 95, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Leach died Monday, Oct. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Born in Lee County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mary Cooley Leach.
Surviving are a son Tommy (Patricia) Leach of Hartsville; a sister, Carey (John) Gaskins of Salisbury, N.C.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
JUDITH A. GRAY
SOCIETY HILL – Services for Judith Alston Gray will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Bethesda Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Ms. Gray, affectionately known as "Judy, " died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001. Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late James C. and Rose McCray Alston. She was a graduate of Rosenwald High School, Benedict College and Virginia Seminary. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. She was semi-retired and served as a resource coordinator at the Central Christian Academy and worked with the Success Academy after-school project as Hendley Homes.
Surviving are two sons, Ben (Michele) Heatley of Columbia and Samuel Gray of Florence; a brother, James N. (Garcia) Alston of Hackensack, N.J.; two grandchildren, Jordan A. and Taylor N. Heatley of Columbia; two nieces, Melanie J. and Alicia L. Alston of Hackensack, N.J.; three cousins, Dr. James D. Rucker of McConnelis, S.C., Ms. Marin Rucker Shamu of Bowie, Md., and Robert Alston Jr. of Rahway, N.J.; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
LEON OUTLAW
Funeral services for Leon D. Outlaw Sr., 67, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 12, 2001, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Gafford will officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Outlaw died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late William Newton and Cleo Davis Outlaw. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and served as the Sunday School secretary for 30 years. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He served as an M.P. in the U. S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Funderburk Outlaw of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Linda Outlaw of Florence, Dane and Laura Outlaw of Summerville; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy O. and Glen Kelley, Beth O. and Clayton Prescott, all of Columbia; brother, the Rev. Herbert Outlaw of Douglasville, Ga; sister, Myrtle Luther of Hartsville; and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith wife of Dr. Amos A. Smith, entered into rest Tuesday, Oct. 9. She was born
in Moultrie, Ga. She attended Georgia Baptist School of nursing and was a registered nurse. She worked at the Medical College of Georgia, Department of Psychiatry, and also at the V.A. Hospital, Lynwood Division.
Other survivors include a son, Dr. Allen C. Smith of Hartsville; one daughter, Nancy S. Eason of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith, Catherine Smith, Hannah Smith, Emily Smith, Britton Eason and Zachary Eason; mother, Estelle Flowers of Podwer Springs, Ga.; brother, Bill Flowers of Cairo, Ga.; sisters, Patricia Mercer of Moultrie, Ga., and Bonnie Flowers, Powder Springs, Ga.
HAROLD GALLOWAY
Services for Harry Henson Galloway, 74, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Galloway died Thursday, Oct. 11. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Bennard and Lois Henson Galloway. He was retired from Life of Viriginia and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173 and the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Anderson, Phyllis Marsh, all of Hartsville; grandchildren, Richard Todd Davis, Stacy Martin, Tony Marsh, Holly Aistrop, Kevin Marsh; great-grandchildren, Morgan Crisp, Alexus Marsh.
He was predeceased by a loving companion, Helen Goodson.
JOE ASKINS
Services for Joseph E. "Joe" Askins, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 17, 2001, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Askins died Sunday, Oct. 14. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Carson B. and Marie Waddell Askins. He was an electrical and plumbing contractor for 30 years and served in the army during World War II. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Askins of Hartsville; a daughter, Joyce Askins of Hartsville; brothers, Dan G. Askins of Hartsville and C.B. Askins Jr. of Lake City; granddaughter, Janna Easterling of Lake Wylie; numerous nieces and nephews.
SUE HUDSON BELL
LAMAR – Services for Sue Hudson Bell, 89, were held at 3 p..m Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Lamar Free Will Baptist Church with interment following in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Lamar directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bell died Friday, Oct. 12, in a Florence hospital. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Albert and Virginia Thomas Hudson. She was a homemaker and member of Lamar Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mildred Petty of Las Vegas, Nev., Ruby Pate of Riverside, Calif. and Judy (Richard) Mancill of Lamar; one brother, James Hudson of Gaston and one sister, Cleo Parnell of Sumter; also 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Nathan, Aaron and Loman Hudson and a sister, Eula H. Lee.
