JAMES E. TYNER
PATRICK – Services for James Edward "Boojack" Tyner, 56, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church. The Revs. Rocky Heath and Ed Griggs officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Patrick Rescue Squad.
Mr. Tyner died Sept. 17. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Doc and Gladys Teal Tyner.
Surviving are his son, James Curtis "Bobo" Tyner of Hartsville; two daughters, Jennifer Tyner and Marie Player, both of Hartsville; four brothers, James Cecil "PJack" Tyner, Donald Ray Tyner, Jimmy Lee Tyner, all of Patrick and William Henry "Snap" Tyner of Hartsville; five sisters, Myrtle Johnson of Hartsville, Doris Tyner Teal, Louise Dixon, Betty Jean Turner, all of Patrick, Lena Potts of Cleveland, N.C.; a loving niece, Deborah O'Neal; a special friend, Norma Jean Player. He was predeceased by a sister, Mattie Lee Howle, and two brothers, Raymond Tyner and Howard Teal.
BROOKS HOWLE
Services for Brooks Howle, 98, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at First Southern Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Remaley officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Howle, widower of Cecile Blackmon Howle, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late John David and Laney Jordan Howle. He was a member of First Southern Methodist Church and was very active in church affairs until his heath failed. He was employed at the Hartsville Cotton Mill and later was engaged in farming until his retirement. He was a son of a Confederate War veteran and was a member of the Major Lide Coker Chapter Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was loved by all who knew him and we shall miss him greatly.
Surviving are his granddaughters, Lib Johnson Stowers of Columbia, Dolores Johnson Talbert of Hartsville, Ceceilia Leach of Sumter; great-grandson, Farrell Talbert Jr.; great-great-grandson, Dylan Talbert; a niece and three nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Emily Howle Johnson, and two sisters, Jessie (Mrs. Gus) Ballard and Lizzie (Mrs. Theodore) Gainey.
ORA LEE MURPH
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – A memorial service for Ora Lee Murph, 85, formerly of Hartsville, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church with the Rev. Milton McGuirt officiating. Burial will be Saturday, Nov. 17, in Salisbury, N.C., following a brief service at Lyerly Funeral Home at 11 a.m.
Mrs. Murph, of The Lakes at Litchfield, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was born
Dec. 6, 1915, in Concord, N.C., a daughter of the late Albert and Sophronia Eudy Shinn. She was a homemaker, a former resident of Lake Junaluska, N.C., and a member of St. Paul Waccamaw United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of Junaluska Associates.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Lee Murph; a son, Harry Lee Murph Jr. and wife, Paula, of McBee; two daughters, Brenda M. Logan and husband, Russell, of Pepper Pike, Ohio, Daphene M. Chapman and husband, Curtis, of Canton, Ga.; two sisters, Evelyn Baity of Concord, N.C., and Rena Grace McKenzie of Monroe, La.; and six grandchildren, Robert and Harriett Logan of Cleveland, Ohio, Christopher and Carrie Ann Wellington of Birmingham, Ala., Lee Murph of Hanahan and Megan Murph of McBee.

TOLLIE B. GAINEY JR.
DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Tollie Boy Gainey Jr., 65, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2001, in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Gainey died Saturday, Nov. 10, at a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County on April 10, 1936, a son of the late Tollie Tim and Toie Mae Gainey. He retired from Hartsville Oil Mill with over 35 years of service. Mr. Gainey was a Jeff Gordan race fan and enjoyed animals and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Gainey of the home; two sons, Timmy (Tina) Gainey and Allen (Donna) Gainey, both of Darlington; three daughters, Laurie Gainey and Patricia (Wayne) Rhodes, both of Darlington and Faye (Terry) Meier of Florence; six brothers, Robert Gainey, James Gainey, Johnny Gainey, Ronnie Gainey and Pete Gainey, all of Darlington, and Raymond Gainey of Effingham; two sisters, Ruby Mae Gandy of Darlington and Sallie Windham of Lamar; and 11 grandchildren.

FLORENCE R. DAVIS
Services for Florence R. Davis were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Isaac Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery with professional services entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis died Thursday, Nov. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born
on May 15, 1898, in the Mt. Claire Community, one of 10 children of the late Robert and Dinah Simon Robinson. She attended the Mt. Claire school to some extent. She was married
to the late Maxie Davis. She was employed as a cook at the Norwood Cafe then the Manhattan Cafe until it closed. She then worked at Butler High School until it closed. She enjoyed the senior citizens organization and participated in their activities. She was a lifetime member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews of Hartsville and other surrounding areas.
FRANCIS M. LLOYD
Graveside services for Francis Martin Lloyd, 68, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Elim Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Crouch officiated directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Lloyd died Thursday, Nov. 8. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Lewis E. Lloyd Sr. and Lois Virginia Raines Lloyd. He was a member of Elim United Methodist Church and a member of the DAV Chapter #72. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Ellan Winburn Lloyd of Hartsville; daughter, Mary Ann Lloyd of Kent, Wash.; step-daughters, Ann Morrell of Hartsville and Nancy Campbell of Chesterfield; sisters, Cynthia L. Pope, Janie L. Howell, both of Oates; brothers, C. H. Lloyd of San Antonio, Texas, and the Rev. Perry Lloyd of Kelleytown; one grandchild; four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis E. Lloyd Jr.

REV. C. C. COLLINS
Services for Rev. C. C. Collins, 90, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. James H. Tate officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery.
The Rev. Collins was born
in Barnwell County, a son of the late William Henry and Mary Ann Weeks Collins. He was a retired Baptist minister, having served several churches over a period of 45 years. He has been a resident of the Bethea Baptist Home for the past seven years and was a member of the Dillon Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Olin and Annie Collins of Florence; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Alex Quick of Chadbourn, N.C.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. GERTRUDE McPHAIL
DARLINGTON – Services for Gertrude M. McPhail, 86, will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at New Hopewell Baptist Church by the Rev. Calvin Daniels, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will be on view at Young & Young Funeral Home on Thursday, beginning at 4 p.m.
Mrs. McPhail, widow of Anson Moses McPhail, died Monday, Nov. 12, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born
in Darlington County and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Lina Mason McPhail. She was retired from Lazy Boy Manufacturers. She was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Mt. Rona Chapter 233. She was preceded in death by one son, Elwell D. McPhail.
Survivors are two sons, Moses Lincoln McPhail Jr. of Willingboro, N.J., and Hugh Glenn McPhail of Severn, Md.; six daughters, Joy Edith Williamson of Roselle, N.J., Doris M. Chavis and Claudia M. McDaniels, both of Darlington, Muriel M. Spruill and Faulves M. Coleman, both of Willingboro, N.J, . and Shirley M. Cummings of Florence; a sister, Lois M. Copeland of Darlington; 20 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

MARION WILLIAMS
Services for Marion Williams, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 14, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Williams died Monday, Nov. 12. Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Joe S. and Susie Williams Williams. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, the Omar Temple, the Pee Dee Shrine Club, the Red Fez Club, and was a life member of the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Lois Thompson Williams of Hartsville; daughter, Kaye W. Denning of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Charles A. Williams of Shallotee, N.C.; grandchildren and spouse, Shannon and Kyle Johnson of Durham, N.C., Kerry Denning and Carly Denning, both of Raleigh, N.C.
MARY RHOAD
McBEE – Mass of Christian burial for Mary Elizabeth Dawson Rhoad, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Nov. 16, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Karl Roesch, Celebrant. Final Commendation and farewell prayers will be in McBee Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Rhoad died Wednesday, Nov. 14. Born in Charleston County, she was a daughter of the late John Edward and Georgia E. Smith Dawson.She was one of the oldest original members of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Henry P. Rhoad Jr. of McBee, Robert D. Rhoad of Asheville, N.C., Jack and Betty Sue Rhoad of McBee; daughters and son-in-law, Sally and Jerry Horton of McBee, Rosemary and Allen Mothershead of Camden, Gerrie and Paschal Hoffman of McBee, Jean and Tommy Rivers of Gaston; sisters, Blanche Drulard of Polar Bay, Fla., Dorothy Butcher of Hannahan, 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
