HOLLIS D. COLLUM
CHEROKEE, Ala. – Services for Hollis Dean Collum, 80, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee, Ala., with Bruce Palmer officiating. Burial followed in the Harris Chapel Cemetery. Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home was in charge of local announcements.
Mr. Collum died Monday, Nov. 26. He was a native of Colbert County, a member of the Mhoontown Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 910 A.F.M. Mr. Collum served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Collum, of the home; four sons, Michael Collum of Darlington, Terry Collum of Ardmore, Ala., Ronald Collum and Jackie Collum, both of Cherokee, Ala.; one brother, Ezell Collum of Newsome Springs, Ala.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

REV. L. Z. FREEMAN
Services for the Rev. L. Z. Freeman, 68, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 7, 2001, at the Mission For Christ Church with the Revs. Ernest Dunn and Ken Sturgeon officiating. Burial will be in the Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Rev. Freeman died Tuesday, Dec. 4. He was born
in Montgomery County, N.C., a son of the late Peter L. and Emmie Edwards Freeman. He was the Founder and Pastor of Mission of Christ Church since 1986.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Juanita Winburn Freeman of Hartsville; daughter, Angela (David) Braddock of Effingham; son, Laverne (Mary Ann) Freeman of Plant City, Fla.; sister, Louise Freeman of Camden; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SARA E. GAINEY
Services for Sara Ellis Hunt Gainey, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Revs. Charles Boswell, Don Purvis and Rocky Purvis will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gainey died Wednesday, Dec. 5. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Julian and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Ellis. She was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Clark and Penelope Ingram, both of Hartsville; son, Wilson E. Hunt; step-son, Alvin S. Gainey, both of Hartsville; step-daughter, Deborah Kirby of Rock Hill; two sisters, Betty Jean Ellis of Hursey, Pa., and Frankie Miller of Alexander, Va.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson B. Hunt, and her second husband Clarence Bruce Gainey.

Funeral services for Ruby Mae Lundy Gainey, 84, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Gainey, widow of Frank Faile and R.C. Gainey, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late John and Rosa Willis Lundy. She was a member of Morven Baptist Church in Morven, N.C.
Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Hazel "Buck" and Barbara Faile of High Point, N.C., Carl and Suzanne Gainey of Monroe, Iowa, Ronnie and Kim Gainey of McFarlan, N.C., Reese Gainey of Morven, N.C.; daughters, Bernice F. Gilbert of Hartsville, Carolyn F. Brooks of Hartsville, Wandy Gainey of McBee; brother, Robert Lundy of Hartsville; sister, Lucille Andrews of Patrick;19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her son, Wesley Laverne Faile; daughter, Janice Olivia Gainey; brother, Eugene Lundy; and sister, Corine O'Neal.

Memorial services for Randolph McEachin Norment Jr., 79, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins and Dr. Jim Daniels will officiate. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Norment died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Randolph McEachin and Sara Cole White Norment Sr. He moved to Hartsville in 1954 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, elder and treasurer for many years. He graduated from St. John's High School in Darlington and the University of South Carolina. During World War II he served in the Army Air Force. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. for 40 years and retired in 1984 as controller. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member and former president of the Damon Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle White Norment of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Money of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Lou and Vicki Will Norment of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Money, Paul Money, Daniel Money, Caroline Norment, Louis Norment; sisters, Bet Phillips of Darlington, and Dale Mullinix of High Point, N.C.

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Joseph Kelly Fields Sr. were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Mack officiating, and the Rev. D. L. Hughes, pastor. Burial followed in Darlington Memorial Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Mr. Fields died Friday, Dec. 7, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington, a son of the late Columbus and Carolina Kelly Fields. He attended the Darlington County public schools. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon and a member of the senior choir. He was employed by Nucor Steel of Darlington from which he retired in 1991 and later was employed by the Darlington County School District as a custodian.
Surviving are his loving wife, Emma Rena Williams Field of the home; four children, Joseph Fields Jr. of Washington, D.C., Carolyn F. (the Rev. Johnny) Bush of Stamford, Conn., Jerry (Jennifer) Fields of Effingham and Katina Fields of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Jimmy, Markee, Jenay, Joseph, Justice, JaDira, Jeffrey and Henry; a special uncle, the Rev. James W. (Celia) Kelly of Darlington; three aunts, Andrena Murray of Queensville, N.Y., Dellie Jones of Darlington and Eugenia Freeman of Newark, N.J.; godchildren, Frances (Ben) Muhammed, Dasia Gee; godmother, Ethel Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

CHESTERFIELD – Funeral services for Janice Evelyn Jordan, 49, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Harris Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jordan was born
in Darlington, a daughter of Carolyn S. Steen of Hartsville and the late William "Bill" Isgett Jr. She was a certified nursing assistant. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by one brother, Major David Keith.
Survivors include two sons, James T. "Travis" Jordan of Chesterfield and Jimmy Jordan of Clyde, N.C.; one daughter, Stacy Lynn Bartlett of Monroe, N.C.; mother, Carolyn S. Steen of Hartsville; two brothers, Charlie Ray Keith and Chuck Jerome Keith, both of Society Hill; one sister, Kathy Fay Smith of Society Hill; two grandsons, Timothy Wayne Jordan and Seth Scott Jordan; and one godchild, Sierra Daniell Pope.

Mrs. Stamey, widow of Dale B. Stamey, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Edwards Yarborough.
Surviving are her step-sons, Bruce Stamey and Roger Stamey, both of Hartsville; stepdaughter, Rheda Felkel of Hartsville; sister, Juanita Conyers of Hartsville; and 11 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Ernest Edwards.
