Funeral services for Vyron P. Johnson, 63, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim Cole will officiate with burial in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late William S. and Elsie Hall Johnson. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. with 31 years of service and served in the U. S. Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Sanderson of Hartsville; nephews, Melvin Perkins of Hartsville, Henry and Earline Perkins of Pine Ridge, S.C., James and Pete Perkins of Dahlonega, Ga., William and Nancy Perkins of Dawsonville, Ga., and Ronald and Charmaine Perkins of Hartsville.
W. MONROE BLACKMON
Graveside services for W. Monroe Blackmon, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence. The Rev. Jim Ridenhour will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God of Reformation, Box 386, Hartsville, SC 29551.
Mr. Blackmon died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late William Bruce and Ellen Stokes Blackmon. He worked at Sonoco for 46 years, was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club, and a Veteran of W.W. II in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Lions Club, Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173, Omar Temple of the Shrine, and the Red Fez Club. He was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Keels Blackmon of Lynchburg, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Wm. (Billy) and Miriam Blackmon Jr. of Columbia; and brothers, Laurie Blackmon and Alvin Blackmon of Hartsville. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Bair Blackmon.
JAMES F. ODOM
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for James Franklin Odom, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Indian Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Odom died Thursday, Dec. 13, in a Florence hospital. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late James Clarence and Ellie Hill Odom. He retired from Spring Mills after many years of employment. Mr. Odom was a member of the Indian Branch United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching baseball.
He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Syble Rae Odom, who died in 1999.
Survivors include three daughters, Frankie (Russell) Davis and Ellie (Robert) Lemons, both of Darlington, and Theodora (Billy) DeWitt of Florence; two brothers, Bill Odom and Alvin Odom, both of Darlington; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Indian Branch United Methodist Church Building Fund.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. – Graveside services for Eva H. Dunham, 81, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 19, 2001, at Good Shepherd Memorial Park. The Revs. Ben and Dora Gafford will officiate directed by Eggers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mrs. Dunham died Saturday, Dec. 15. Born in Coolidge, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Lena Vinson Harris. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Boiling Springs and was retired from General Dynamics Corporation.
Surviving are her son, William C. Bounds of Riverside, Calif.; daughter, Sandra (Paul) Simmons of Hartsville; brother, Billy Harris of Alba, Texas; nine granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Claude Truman Bounds and Clyde Harris, and a son, Charles Truman Bonds.

TIMMONSVILLE – Services for John D. Griggs, 73, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, in the chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Florence Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Griggs died Friday, Dec. 14, in a Florence hospital after an extended illness. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Dorcus and Annie Gainey Griggs. He was a member of the Fellowship Assembly Church of Timmonsville. Mr. Griggs worked for East Coast Leasing Co. in Florence for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Griggs of the home; five sons, David Griggs and Chris (Rachel) Griggs, both of Timmonsville, Ronnie (Lisa) Griggs, Jimmy Yarborough and Richard Yarborough, all of Darlington; three daughters, Barbara (Doug) Sweeney of Landsdale, Pa., Connie (Charles) Taylor and Sherry (Ricky) Poston, both of Darlington; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

DARLINGTON – Services for Carrie Larymore Broderick, 80, were held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Darlington directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Broderick, wife of the late John F. Broderick, died Friday, Dec. 14, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Louis L. and Melissa Hicks Larymore. She was employed as a nurse for most of her life and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Maggie Barefoot of Darlington and Letha Richardson of Bishopville; four brothers, Cecil Larymore of Augusta, Ga., Russell Larymore of Charleston, Jennings Larymore and Willard Larymore, both of Darlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Broderick was preceded in death by a son, John Jennings Broderick.

Mrs. Welch, wife of the late, Reuben J. Welch, died Friday morning in her residence after an illness. She was born
in Vance County, N.C., the daughter of the late John Dow and Ethel Newton Dean. She was a secretary and a homemaker and a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, J. David (Florence) Welch of Bennettsville and Andy Vance (Jan) Welch of Columbia; a daughter, Gloria Welch Lussier of Florence; five grandchildren; and a sister, Onita Baxley of Lancaster.

She was predeceased by her son, Jimmy O'Neal, and her brothers, Barney Gooden and Therlow Gooden.
