Funeral services for Nora Ellen Bullard, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Middendorf Baptist Church. The Revs. Ed Griggs and Don Rhyne will officiate with burial in Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bullard died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Will M. and May Belle Johnson McManus. She was a member of Middendorf Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, Blease Bullard Jr. and William K. Bullard, both of Middendorf; daughters, Ruth B. Tuten of Hartsville, Gracie Mae Locke of Lancaster, Annie Sue Bullard of Middendorf, Patricia Bullard of Homestead, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary E. Franklin.

Funeral services for Alton "Wine-O" Ings will be held 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 500 Howard St.
Mr. Ings died Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born
in Hartsville, a son of Clarence and Emma Lou Toney Ings. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Monday Bishop of Hartsville; two brothers, Larry (Trenia) Ings of Hartsville and Charles (Linda) Ings of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Maedonia Wilds and Barbara Witherspoon of Hartsville; and three grandchildren.
MARY ELLA RIDGES
Funeral services for Mary Ella Ridges will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Isaac Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Suedell and Hezekiah Robinson of 303 Magnolia Lane.
Mrs. Ridges died Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born
in the Hartsville community, a daughter of the late Clarence Ridges and Corine Jones. She was educated in the public schools and worked as a cook with the Beacon Restaurant in Hartsville. She first was a member of the Liberty Hill Holiness Church and later became a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Survivors are three daughters, Suedell (Hezekiah) Robinson, Brenda L. Ridges and Catherine J. Wingate, all of Hartsville; three sons, Ronnie (Lurlean) Ridges of Darlington, Michael (Sharon) Ridges of St. Joseph, Mich., and Leon Ridges of Columbia; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Griffin of Nappa Valley, Calif., and Carrie Bell Jones of Boston, Mass.; 27 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Cullen Hunter Todd, 84, will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Griggs and Dr. Richard Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Darlington Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Todd died Wednesday, Jan. 9. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Harmon and Harriette Grantham Jones. She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, H. B. Todd of Hartsville; four sons, Paul R. Hunter Sr., Allen M. Hunter, James Rhen Hunter, Cullen Eugene Hunter Sr., all of Hartsville; nine grandchildren, Paul Hunter Jr., Allen Hunter Jr., James R. Hunter Jr., Cullen Gene Hunter Jr., Shawn Futrell, Debbie Munn, Courtney James, all of Hartsville, Gennie Handmaker of Atlanta, Ga., Candice Hunter of Myrtle Beach; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas died Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Maggie Thomas. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County and was a member of Centerville A.M.E. Church.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Mae Cooks Thomas of Hartsville; four daughters, Mary Ann (Pastor Sam) Brooks of Darlington; Joann Jones and Sarah (David) Dennis, both of Paterson, N.J., and Barbara (Edgar) Rivers of Columbia; two sons, James (Lula Mae) Thomas Jr. and Cecil (Lillie Mae) Thomas Sr., both of Hartsville; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Ophelia Currin Lance, 91, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at the New Market Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. Phillip Watford and Tommy Browne will officiate. Visitation will be this evening, Friday, from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lance died Wednesday, Jan. 10. She was born
in Granville County, N.C., a daughter of the late Egbert and Evie Sherman Currin. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was owner of Raleigh Road Nursery in Fayetteville for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Sue Morrison of Hartsville; a sister, Edna Papoone of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Terry E. Morrison and Al Morrison, both of Hartsville.

DIANA CIUFFETELLI
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Graveside servcies for Diana Ciuffetelli, 54, were held in Lexington Cemetery with Reverend Clyde Acres, officiating.
Ms. Ciuffetelli died Saturday, Dec. 29, after a long illness. Born in White Plains, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Evelyn McBride Ciuffetelli of Lexington, N.C., and Dario Ciuffetelli of Bowie, Md.
Surviving are two brothers Kenneth Ciuffetelli and Johnny Ciuffetelli, two sisters, Carolyn and Sandy Beasley of Hartsville; four nieces and four nephews.
MARY SUE CROFT
SUMTER – Funeral services for Mary Sue Coleman Croft, 86, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at the First Church of the Nazarene, Sumter, with the Rev. James Thrower and the Rev. G. W. Harrell officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

Mrs. Croft, widow of Thomas Clifford Croft Sr., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at McLeod Memorial Hospital in Florence. She had been a resident of Commander Nursing Home for the past five years. Born in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Isaiah and Agnes Drucilla Weaver Coleman. She was a lifetime resident of Sumter County and was a faithful and beloved member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Sumter, for more than 50 years. Her steadfast witness for Jesus Christ was an inspiration to her children and all who knew her.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas C. and Carole P. Croft Jr., of Hartsville, Carl J. and Patricia H. Croft of Sumter, and C. Edwin and Maria L. Croft of Florence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Iris M. Croft and Richard Wood of Sumter and F. Marilyn and Dr. Richard C. Inabinet of Columbia; four granddaughters, Deborah Oelze of Homestead, Fla., Dr. Carla Croft of London, England, Catharine Croft of Portland, Ore., and Allie Inabinet of Columbia; six grandsons, Vincent Croft of LaGrange, Ga., William Croft of Sumter, Thomas Croft of Charlotte, N.C., Edwin Croft Jr. of Columbia, Daniel Croft of Arlington, Va., and Christopher Inabinet of Florence; a grand-step-son, R. Wayne Lewis of Florence; five great-grandchildren, Eric and Erin Oelze of Homestead, Fla., Ashlynn and Caitlynn Croft of LaGrange and Taylar Croft of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Lota C. McIntyre of Columbia; more than 100 nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers Clarence and Ollie Coleman and by sisters, Hattie Hodge, Janie Browder, Cora Kirby, Della King and Beulah Guess.

ARAB, Ala. – Graveside funeral services for David Elmer Cothran, 95, formerly of Lamar, were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Jan. 12, 2002, in Lamar Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Clark Carter and directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mr. Cothran died Wednesday, Jan. 10, in Marshall Medical Center North in Alabama after an illness. He moved to Arab, Ala., in 1991 to be with his family. He was a former delivery carrier for the Florence Morning News and The State newspapers in the Lamar area.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Julian and Barbara Cothran of Arab; grandchildren, Michael Sean Cothran of Arab, Daniel Scott Cothran and wife, Jessica Allen, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Kristen Anna Cothran, Joel Andrew Cothran, and Laurel Elizabeth Cothran, all of Arab.
Mr. Cothran was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Waters Cothran, who died Oct. 16, 1988.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Preston Hunter Sr., 72, formerly of Darlington, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in a Washington D.C., hospital after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Hunter died Tuesday, Jan. 15, in a Washington, D.C., hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Press and Margaret Graham Hunter. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County. Mr. Hunter was first a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church and after moving to Washington, D.C., he became a member of Shinning Star Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Choir and a member of the deacon board.
Mr. Hunter was employed with Safeway Warehouse with 38 years of service.
Surviving are seven daughters, Elenora Benjamin, Margaret (Mitchell) Flynn, Jacqueline (Mack Jr.) Williamson, Joyce (Billie) Sanders and Selena Slater, all of Darlington, Vallaree Hunter of Hartsville and Mary Hunter of Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, Ervin (Elizabeth) Smith and Billie Hunter, both of Hartsville, and Willie Hunter of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Magnolia (Otis) Little of Hartsville, Nettie (Joe) Grant of Darlington and Lillian (James) Bodrick of Society Hill; five brothers, Robert Hunter and James (Earline) Hunter, both of Society Hill, Frank Hunter and Jerome Hunter, both of Darlington, and George Hunter of Washington, D.C.; 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
