He was a native of Emanuel County and a resident of Atlanta before moving to Gainesville 25 years ago. He retired in 1989 from Ford Motor Co. He was a Methodist.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Virginia Fountain Williamson of Gainesville; a son and daughter-in-law, Perry Glenn Williamson and Debbie Williamson of Atlanta; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Waymond Scott of Atlanta; four sisters, Faye Hutcheson of Vidalia, Lula Mae Sikes of Oak Park, Mittie Phillips of Soperton and Frances Hart of Lyons; and four grandchildren.

Chester E. Zettler
GUYTON -- Chester E. Zettler, 70, died Jan. 4 at home.
He was a native of Effingham County and a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Metter Lions Club and was secretary/treasurer for 10 years. He retired from Cal Maine Foods and was a veteran of the Air Force.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Joy W. Zettler of Guyton; three sons, Herschel E. Zettler of Augusta, Chester H. Zettler of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Zan A. Zettler of Atlanta; a brother, Cermak Zettler of Guyton; a sister, Laurie Stregles of Guyton; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Joe L. Ayers, 58, died Jan. 2.
He was born in Charlottesville, Va. He was a member of Faith Temple Baptist Church in Jersey City.

Ayers of Jersey City; sons, Stephon Asaun Ayers, Shamair Arkeem Ayers of Jersey City and Nakeia Antwan Ayers of Florida; daughters, Chavanda Bush of Florida, Pamela Ayers and Ronny David, both of Jersey City; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Bennie Dease Duncan of Estill, S.C.; nine brothers, three sisters and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mrs. Thelma Pevey Blackburn, 84, died Jan. 5 at Candler Hospital.
She was born in Guyton and reared at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home in Hapeville from 1919-1926. She moved to Bulloch County, where she graduated in 1933 from Stilson High School. She attended Draughon's Business College in Savannah. She was the widow of Andrew J. Blackburn Jr., and was a Baptist.
SURVIVORS: a son, Andrew J. Blackburn III of Savannah; a sister, Lurene P. Corlette of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Molsey H. Brown
GRAY'S HILL, S.C. -- Molsey Heyward Brown, 68, died Jan. 2 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
She was born in White Plains, N.Y., and was educated in Beaufort County public schools. She was a member of Gray's Hill New Church of Christ. She later joined Friendship Holiness Church and served as church mother.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Joseph Brown of Gray's Hill; a son, Joseph Brown Jr. of Atlanta; seven daughters, Patricia Fields, Betty L. Zackary, Carrie B. Taylor and Carolyn Howard, all of Gray's Hill, Lula M. Frazier of Atlanta, Cynthia Bobian of Sheldon and LaSheeba Brown of Charleston; an adopted sister, Annie Mae Powell of Big Estate; an adopted granddaughter, 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was born in Coffee County and lived in Liberty County the past 16 years.

She was a native of Screven County, a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove AME Church.

Irving Wakeman Doty, 78, died Jan. 5 at home.
He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in Savannah nearly all of his life. He was a member of Robert McIntyre United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of Pilgrim Edward Doty Society, the Georgia Historical Society and the South Carolina Historical Society.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Ollireid New Doty of Savannah; two daughters, Pat Doty Daniel of Columbus and Janet Doty Bohannon of LaGrange; a brother, Robert N. She was born in Hampton. She was a member of Martin Temple CME Church.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Carolyn Hill of Estill and Sadie Alls of Hampton; a son, Joseph Fields; two sisters, Julia Ann Fields of Estill and Edna Mae Abugroon of Brooklyn, N.Y.; an aunt, Lucille Francis of Estill; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a native of Syracuse, N.Y., and a resident of Pembroke. He worked for Express Packing and was a member of House Of God Holiness Church.

She was born in Hampton County. She was a homemaker and a member of Hampton 1st Baptist Church. She was the widow of Eleazer Gooding and Charles Harriott.

RIDGELAND -- J.E. "Buddie" Lucas, 73, died Jan. 5 at Low Country General Hospital.
He was born in Earl, Ark. He was owner of Lucas Electric Contractors. He was formerly employed by Palmetto Electric Co-operative and the Navy Shipyard in Charleston. He was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Ridgeland.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Doris Smith Lucas of Ridgeland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Lucas of Ridgeland, and Lavarn and Kathy Lucas of Hilton Head Island; and six grandchildren.

Mike Peeples
VARNVILLE, S.C. -- Mike Peeples, 71, died Jan. 4 at Colleton Regional Hospital in Walterboro.
He was born in Hampton County. He was a retired farmer and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church in Hampton County.
SURVIVORS: four sisters-in-law, Violet Koger of Walterboro, Joyce Smith of Grays and Elise Edwards and Evelyn Moody, both of Varnville; three brothers-in-law, Donald Smith of Grays, Marion Smith of Walterboro and Sam Smith of Turkey, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Rupert Bazemore
Former Garden City mayor Rupert Wayne Bazemore, 82, died Jan. 4 at Moss Oaks Convalescent Center in Pooler.
He was born in Screven County and lived in Garden City for many years. He was the widower of Lois Reddick Bazemore.
He served as a Garden City alderman from 1954 to 1961 and was mayor from 1961 to 1973. He was instrumental in the formation of Garden City Recreation Department, and in the construction of the Westside Stadium and Garden City Gymnasium.
He was appointed by the Gov. Jimmy Carter to served on the Georgia State Board of Plumbers as an inspector. He was a member of Plumbers, Steamfitters and Air Conditioners Local No. 188 for 50 years.
He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church since 1944 and a member of the Administrative Board. He also served as chairman of the church's Board of Trustees and was a member of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Men.
SURVIVORS: three sons and daughters-in-law, Britton and Margie Bazemore, and the Rev. Jerry and Pam Bazemore, all of Garden City, and Dennis and Nancy Bazemore of Orange Park, Fla.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Charles L. Crawford
Charles Leon "Chuck" Crawford, 57, died Jan. 5 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
He was a native of Savannah and a 1960 graduate of A.E. Beach High School. He was a member of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board.
He retired from the Savannah office of the Atlanta Gas Light Co. after 29 years. He was a coach for the PALS Athletic Organization.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Stella Boston-Crawford of Savannah; a son, Robert Jones of Columbus; two daughters, Rhonda Bacon and La Torrean Crawford, both of Savannah; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pluitt of Savannah; two sisters, Jackie Newton and the Rev. JESUP -- Myrtle Ogden Cooper, 86, died Jan. 4 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Wayne County and a resident of Miami for 55 years. She moved back to Jesup eight years ago. She was a member of Jesup Church of God and a retired accountant and Realtor.

She was a native of Bryan County and a resident of Fleming most of her life. She also lived in Savannah for a short time. She was a charter member of Fleming Baptist Church.

JESUP -- Lamar Hires Sr., 65, died Jan. 5.
He was born in Wayne County and attended Parkway Church of God. He retired from Frito Lay Distributor and was employed with Pantry Pride Food for 21 years. He was an Air Force veteran.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Alma Lucille Hires of Jesup; a daughter, Bernie L. Varnedore of Jesup; three sons, Hershell L. Hires Jr. of Lake City, Fla., William M. Hires of Aiken, S.C., and Clifton M. Hires of Waycross; four sisters, Annette Woods, Bernice Thornton and Jessie Mae Bennett, all of Jesup, and Pearl Madray of Lake Okeechobee, Fla.; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

METTER -- Mrs. Melissa Lynn Bonnett Shackelford, 33, died Jan. 4 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
She was born in Bulloch County and moved from there to Metter five years ago. She was a member of the Class of 1984 of Statesboro High School. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church in Herndon.
SURVIVORS: her husband, L.H. Shackelford of Metter; a son, Eric Michael Shackleford of Metter; her parents, Kay Bonnett of Statesboro and Gerald Bonnett Sr. of Cobbtown; a brother, Gerald Bonnett Jr. of Metter; two nephews, Justin Bonnett and Troy Copeland, both of Metter; her maternal grandparents, Emerson and Virginia Mock of Sylvania; her paternal grandmother, Grace Bonnett of Portal; and other relatives.

Wilton B. Shearouse
GUYTON -- Wilton B. Shearouse, 79, died Jan. 5 at Effingham Extended Care Facility.
He was a native of Effingham County. He was a member of Guyton Christian Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and the Christian Men's Fellowship. He was a former board chairman and elder emeritus.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 209, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7116, 40 & 8 Voiture Locale No. 567, an honorary chapter member of the FFA, a member of the Cattlemen's Association, Georgia Salzburger Society and the Effingham County Historical Society.
He was a farmer and retired from Gold Kist Inc. after 28 years, as a store manager. He was a Navy veteran of the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Josephine W. Shearouse of Guyton; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Ann Tuten and Jack W. Tuten Jr.; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Vicki Tuten of Savannah, and Amy and Slade Helmly of Rincon; and two great-granddaughters, Annabeth and Saralyn Helmly, both of Rincon.

Raymond Sikes
LYONS -- Raymond Sikes, 86, died Jan. 4 at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.
He was a native of Toombs County and lived in St. Augustine, Fla., for several years, before returning to Lyons some years ago. He was a retired water well driller, an Army veteran of World War II and a Primitive Baptist.
SURVIVORS: three daughters, Betty Crosswhite of Daleville, Ala., Helen Mimbs of Vidalia and Carol Koutelas of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; a son, Bobby Sikes of Townsend; 13 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
