HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Margaret M. Kosik, 92, died Jan. 5 at Hilton Head Medical Center.
She was born in Avoca, Pa., and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1991 from Pittston, Pa. She was a retired beautician and practical nurse. She was the widow of John F. Kosik. She had been a daily communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Pittston and attended St. Francis Catholic Church on Hilton Head Island.
SURVIVORS: her children, John P. Kosik of Hilton Head Island, Margaret Kosik-Wagner of North Hills, Pa., and Ann Kosik-Litman of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; grandchildren, Lisa Kurtz and Raymond and Christine Litman; and sons-in-laws, Raymond S. Litman and Ronald Wagner.

Virgil E. Mackey Sr.
HARDEEVILLE -- Virgil E. Mackey Sr., 54, died Jan. 5 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
He was a native of Savannah and lived in Hardeeville most of his life. He attended Chatham County public schools. He was a member of Local 1414, International Longshoremen's Association.
SURVIVORS: a daughter, Erica Johnson of Savannah; a son, Virgil E. Mackey Jr. of Hardeeville; a sister, Lauretta D. Mackey of Savannah; a brother, Henry Mackey Jr. of Savannah; a grandson, Fenton Johnson of Savannah; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jesse C. Martin Sr.
MIDWAY -- Jesse Carrol Martin Sr., 77, died Jan. 5 at Candler Hospital.
He was born in Liberty County. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from Union Camp Corp after working as a boilermaker for 38 years. He was an emeritus member of Clinton Lodge No. 54, F&AM, and a Past Worthy Patron of Amity Chapter No. 183, OES. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Midway.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Louise Sherrod Martin of Midway; two sons, Jesse C. Martin Jr. of Beaufort and David C. Martin of Midway; two granddaughters, Nancy and Melissa Martin, both of Rincon; three sisters-in-laws, Ella Martin of Pooler, Iris Martin of Statesboro and Irene Martin of Portsmouth, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Juan Jose McAfee, 28, died Jan. 2 at Shands Hospital.
He was born in Jacksonville. He was a 1989 graduate of Ribault Senior High School and served in the Marine Corps during Desert Storm. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Robin McAfee of Jacksonville; his mother, Helen Dore McAfee of Burton, S.C.; a brother, Anthony McAfee of Orlando; a sister, Temyka McAfee of Burton; aunts, uncles, a niece and a nephew.

NAHUNTA -- Mrs. Doris Dowling Allen Levins, 73, died Jan. 6 at Satilia Regional Medical Center in Waycross.
She was a native of Brantley County and the widow of Spencer Kelly Allen. She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church in Nahunta. She was a rural mail carrier for the Nahunta Post Office from 1965-1995.
She was on the Southeast Georgia Regional Development Center Board of Directors, the Nahunta Housing Authority Board of Directors and served on the Nahunta City Council for two terms, 1988-1989.
SURVIVORS: her husband, James Levins of Nahunta; three daughters, Barbara Steed of Hortense, Faye Allen Farabee of Brunswick and Kaye Thomas of Nahunta; a brother, Glynwood Dowling of Nahunta; five stepchildren, Richard and James Levins, Mary Lynn, John Levins and Elizabeth Thoreson; nine grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

SYLVANIA -- Charlie Mae Smith Mozie, 72, died Jan. 3 at Screven County Hospital.
She was a member of Prosperity Holiness Church in Sylvania for many years.
SURVIVORS: four sons, McKinney Mozie Jr. and Fred and James E. Mozie, all of Sylvania, and Wilder Willie D. Mozie of Leesville, La.; six daughters, Minnie Lee Ponder, Eloise Blunt and Earline White, all of Sylvania, Pauline Oliver of Hilltonia, Carolyn Lawton of Savannah and Mary Dell Morris of Stillmore; a brother, Albert Kelly of Sylvania; a sister, Hannah Bryant of Millen; and a host of other relatives.

James Todd "Man" Smith Jr., 25, died Jan. 2 from injuries in an auto accident.
He was born in Savannah. He was a painter and attended Bryan County High School.

HEPHZIBAH -- Mrs. Cheryl Reynolds Tauaese, 41, died Jan. 4 at home.
She was born in Jenkins County and was employed as a secretary at the Medical College of Georgia. She received a certificate as a master cosmetologist from Lee's Beauty School in Leesville, La., and a diploma for medical secretary from Augusta Technical College.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Louis Tauaese of Hephzibah; a son, Matthew Tauaese of Hephzibah; a daughter, Tiara Tauaese of Hephzibah; her mother, Margaret Reynolds Thomas of Savannah; three brothers, James Reynolds of Seoul Korea, Carl Reynolds of New Mexico and Eric Reynolds of Savannah; and four sisters, Teresa L. Mrs. Nell Elizabeth Simmons Brannen, 81, died Jan. 5 at home.
She was born in Savannah. She was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, served on the Administrative Board, formerly served as church hostess, was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and a past president, treasurer and secretary of the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Adult Bible Class, the Busy Bees, the Alter Guild and had served as chairman of the Bazaar Committee.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Francis M. Brannen of Savannah; a son and daughter- in-law, Robert F. and Jenny Brannen of Massillon, Ohio; a brother, H. Benjamin Simmons Jr. of Savannah; three sisters, Lois Rockwell of Savannah and Rose Wilcox and Ruth Fleming, both of Bluffton; two grandsons, Robert Brannen of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeffrey Brannen of Medina, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Alison Brannen of Medina; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lucille R. "Dunk" "Mamie" Black, 86, died Jan. 5 at home.
She was born in Allendale, S.C., and lived in Savannah. She was a domestic and a member of First Mount Bethel Baptist Church.

Leon Vance Buie, 53, died Jan. 6 at Candler Hospital.
He was born in Savannah and was former owner of Buie's Mill and Building Supply Co. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Solomon's Lodge No. 1, F&AM, the Scottish Rite Consistory-Valley of Savannah and Alee Shrine Temple.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Nancy Edwards Buie of Savannah; a son, Leon Vance Buie III of Savannah; daughters, Maggie McCain of Athens and Josie McCain Thomas of Savannah; stepchildren, Sheri Skinner and Robert E. She was a native of Bulloch County and a retired auto paint and body repairman.

Wilford G. Hammett
Wilford G. Hammett, 66, died Jan. 4 in Dublin.
He was born in Hapeville and moved to Savannah four years ago from Milledgeville. He retired as a major from the Air Force, where he was a fighter pilot and served in the Vietnam conflict.
He was formerly owner of Hammett Chrysler Plymouth in Milledgeville for 18 years. He was previously a member of First Baptist Church in Milledgeville and served on the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Savannah and served on the deaconate.
He was president of the Retired Officers Association, Savannah Chapter. He was a private pilot.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Mary Ann Wilkinson Hammett of Savannah; a son, Dr. Gregory W. Hammett of Princeton, N.J.; two daughters, Linda G. Hammett Ory of Cambridge, Mass., and Janice Hammett Dreier of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, George Hammett of Cullman, Ala., and Wendell Hammett of McDonough; two sisters, Dessella H. VIDALIA -- Melvin Harris, 74, died Jan. 1.
He was born in Toombs County.

Demming of Texas, Charleon MacPherson, Barbara Jean Harris and Luvada Harris, all of Lakeland, Fla., Maggie Golden of Pleasantville, Fla., and Veronica H. Battles of Pinellas, Fla.; two sons, Melvin Harris Jr. of Lakeland and Cris J. Huell Sr. of Virginia; a sister, Lucille Harris of Miami; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gould Mosley
LYONS -- Gould Mosley, 72, died Jan. 6 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
He was a native of Vidalia and graduated from Vidalia High School in 1944. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950.
He operated J & J Tire Co., in Lyons for 14 years and worked as a salesman and district manager for Federated Mutual Insurance Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1987. He was the first chairman of the Lyons Recreation Department and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Lyons Recreation Department and the city of Lyons for 10 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Vidalia Federal Savings and Loan for 23 years. He was a member and past president of Toombs County Bulldog Booster Club, a member and past director of the Vidalia Country Club and a member of Lyons First Baptist Church.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Margie Parker Mosley of Lyons; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Teresa Mosley of Lyons, and Jack and Helen Mosley of Hazlehurst; five grandchildren, Marc Mosley and Chad Brown, both of Hazlehurst, Jake, Michael and Katie Mosley, all of Lyons; three nieces and a sister-in-law.

SYLVANIA -- Bennie Arden Ruth, 91, died Jan. 6 at Sunbridge Healthcare Center in Statesboro.
He was born in Effingham County. He was a retired farmworker and a member of Silver Hill United Methodist Church near Springfield.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Maude Elizabeth Simpson Ruth of Sylvania; a daughter, Sadie Ruth Mock of Sylvania; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Williams of Sylvania; a stepson, Harold Wade McCraw of Mount Airy, N.C.; two sisters, Myrtle Bevill and Adel Weeks, both of Port Wentworth; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Benjamin Silverman
Benjamin Silverman, 88, died Jan. 5 at Buckingham South.
He was born in Savannah and was the widower of Edith Berman. He was one of the oldest practicing attorneys in Savannah with more than 50 years of practice here.
He was a member of Congregation B'nai Brith Jacob, a past board member of the Congregation and a past president of the Jewish Education Alliance. He was a past Master Councilor of Cecil Cheeves Chapter, Order of Demolay. He served for 20 years on the Team of DeMolay Alumni to install DeMolay officers annually.
He was a life member of the DeMolay Alumni Association. He was a past Worshipful Master of Clinton Lodge No. 54, F&AM. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory-Valley of Savannah, where he served as Lieutenant Commander for the 21st Degree for more than 20 years. He was a past Venerable Master of the Lodge of Perfection and a 32 Degree, Knight Commander Court of Honor.
He was a member of Alee Shrine Temple and a past president of the Alee Temple Ritualistic Divan. He served as Potentate of Alee Shrine Temple in 1977, and was a life member of Alee Temple and life member of its Executive Committee. He was Secretary of the Cabin (Organization of past potentates) of Alee Temple. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and was a past president of the organization.
SURVIVORS: two sons and daughters-in-laws, David and Andrea Silverman of Savannah, and Dr. Victor Silverman and Saba Silverman of Sandy Springs; a brother, Louis Silverman of Savannah; four grandchildren, Donald Silverman of Augusta, Staci Silverman of Athens and Hannah and Samuel Silverman, both of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Laurens County and attended Georgia public schools. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses in Vidalia.
SURVIVORS: her husband, Willie James Simpson of Vidalia; two daughters, Debra Reed and Cora Lee Reed, both of Vidalia; six sons, Delman, Darryl and Willie James Reed and Harvis Bolden, all of Vidalia, Calvin Reed of Atlanta and Larry Wade of Reidsville; and a host of grandchildren.

J. Edgar Waters, 86, died Jan. 6 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was a native of Tattnall County and lived in Garden City more than 50 years. He was a member of Savannah Primitive Baptist Church and retired from Union Camp.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Bertie S. Waters of Garden City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and R.B. James H. "Stormy" Weathers, 75, died Jan. 6 at home.
He was a longtime resident of Savannah and a retired Navy chief petty officer. He served for 18 years, including in World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a radio and television technician, having worked for numerous TV repair shops around Savannah.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Fla., and had recently been involved with St. Boniface Catholic Church in Springfield.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Constance M. Weathers of Savannah; a son, James Alan Weathers of Savannah; five daughters, Christine L. Green, Donna L. Fox Rotureau, Crystal Sauls and Cherie Y. Kicklighter, all of Savannah, and Karen J.
