A native of Gainesville, Ga., she was the widow of James G. Procter and daughter of the late Frank and Mary Meridith Grant. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and of Park Hills Sympathy Club.
Survivors include one son, James W. Procter of Spartanburg; two daughters, Dorathy Procter Tobe of Spartanburg and Josephine Procter Lawrence of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Ruth Grant Payden of Brooklyn; one great-grandson reared in the home, James Andre Procter; 10 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 15 great great-grandchildren.

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Robert Jones, 61, of 113 Silver Leaf Drive, died Aug. 15, 2000, in his home.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Minnie Ree Tyler Jones. He retired as a project manager from Midsouth Mechanical. He was a member and deacon at Rosemont Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones of LaGrange, Ga.; three daughters, Pam Merna, Christy East and Toni Smith, all of Lagrange; his father, Hoyt Jones of Spartanburg; one sister, Gail Robbins of Greenville; one brother, Ernest Jones of Startex; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Rosemont Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Max McCord. Burial will take place in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

GILBERT -- Clarence W. (C.W.) Wells Jr., 76, died Aug. 14, 2000.
A native of High Point, N.C., and raised in Lincoln County, Ga., he was the son of the late Clarence W. Sr. and Mattie Martin Wells. He was a member of Lexington Baptist Church. He was also a mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a World War II Navy veteran and retired from SCE&G after 32 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elease Thompson Wells of Gilbert; one son, Randy W. Wells of Spartanburg; one daughter, Brenda W. Cooper of Lexington; two sisters, Mary Applegate of Texas and Betty Morris of Evans, Ga.; two brothers, Ben Hill Wells of Lincolnton, Ga., and Billy Wells of Lakeland, Fla; and four grandchildren.

A native of Charlotte, he graduated from Country Day School in 1977 and the University of North Carolina in 1981 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He worked in health and fitness equipment sales.
Survivors include his parents, Thomas Russell Gregory Sr. and Elizabeth Henry Gregory, both of Charlotte, and Mary Jo Harrington Tone and A. Robert Tone, both of Spartanburg; one sister, Rebecca Tone of Spartanburg; and one brother, Blair R. Nelson of St. Paul, Minn.

A native of Rutherford County, N.C., she was the widow of the late James Marvin Butler Sr. and daughter of the late Ervin Young Padgett and Dovie Jane Padgett. She was a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church. She retired as a salesperson for Waldrops, Inc. of Forest City.
Survivors include two sons, James Marvin "Bud" Butler of Forest City and Max Padgett Butler of Shelby, N.C.; two daughters, Louise Hill of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Jacque Jolley of Forest City; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-gradchildren.

She was a former school teacher, teaching in Tennessee, Kentucky and at Sullins College of Bristol, Va. She was a graduate of Bowling Green Business College of Bowling Green, Ky., and of Peabody College of Nashville, Tenn. She was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Castillion Book Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Hall Sims Hammond of Spartanburg; one sister, Madelyn Batson Muther of Richmond, Va.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Arcadia, she was the daughter of the late Columbus Mills and Mamie Porter Hayes. She was retired from Mayfair Mills and was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Coy Woodrow Bradley of the home; one daughter, Lois Moore of Spartanburg; two sons, Grady Leroy Henderson of Cherokee County and Edward Ray Henderson of Inman; two brothers, Ralph Hayes and James Hayes of Arcadia; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two stepdaughters; two stepsons; and two children reared in the home, Pinky Chandu Patel and Bhavesh Chandu Patel.

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. -- Mary Frances Stephens, 76, died Aug. 14, 2000, in a local hospital.
A native of Spartanburg, she had been a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area in north Georgia. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School class for more than 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Stephens of Chickamauga, Ga.; one son, Sam Stephens of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; one grandson; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Gordon Grimes. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Nathaniel Wood and daughter of the late Harrison Benjamin and Lucinda Mills Gregory. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Ladies Aid Society No. 23. In addition, she was a retired dietician for Roger Huntington Nursing Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Mae Jane Grayson of the home and Betty Ann Shell of Greer; one brother, the Rev. Harrison Gregory of Greer; three sisters, Josie Lee Gregory Sexton of Lyman and Annie Bomar and Emma Mack, both of Spartanburg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William Stanley "Bill" Ellisor Sr., 73, of 1067 Boiling Springs Road died Oct. 10, 2000, at his home.
A native of Columbia, he was the husband of Genelle Clary Ellisor and son of the late Early Stanley and Lillian Leslie Ellisor. He was a charter member of Cudd Memorial Baptist Church, where he formerly taught children's Sunday school and was a member of the G.A. Rogers Sunday school class. In addition, he retired from Southern Railway after 46 years of service.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, William Stanley Ellisor Jr. of Spartanburg and Richard R. Ellisor of Cowpens; two sisters, Lou Ella Cantrell of Boiling Springs and Jeanette Hamrick of Spartanburg; one brother, Wilbur Lee Ellisor of Spartanburg; and three grandchildren.

RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. -- Bettie Sprunt Morris, 78, died Dec. 5, 2000, at her home.
A native of Winston-Salem, she was the widow of Ray Morris and daughter of the late William and Edna Magness Sprunt. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rutherfordton, the Lamar Stringfield Music Club of Rutherfordton and the Rutherford Garden Club. She was a founding member of the Stardust Club and was on the Gardner-Webb University board of trustees. In addition, she attended Salem College and graduated from Hollins College with a double major in French and English. She also received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Morris Giles, Bettie Sprunt Morris and Edna Morris; one son, Bill Morris; one brother, Bill Sprunt; two sisters, Edna Mitchell and Nancy Mathes; and two grandchildren.

PELZER -- Lewis C. James Sr., 68, of 239 Cobb Road died Dec. 3, 2000.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Bernice Stewart James and son of the late David and Ruth Massey James. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and was retired from Liberty Corporation with 46 years of service.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Lewis C. James Jr. of Greer, Howard B. James of San Antonio, and Timothy D. James of Anderson; two daughters, Shirley S. Thompson of Greenville and Brenda Lyles of Greer; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A native of Spartanburg County, she was the wife of Lewis Palmer and daughter of the late Ed Hardy and Lula Rogers Hardy. She was a member of New Salem Zion Baptist Church, the missionary society, the senior choir and Sunday school. She was employed with the family of Conley and Joanne Jumper.
Survivors include two sisters, Flora B. Sanders and Lula Mae Rice, both of Winston Salem, N.C.

A native of Greenwood County, he was the son of the late James F.C. Wilson and Ruth Sullivan Wilson Ross. He was a retired packer with C.F. Sauer Company and was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Wilson of Anderson and Marvin Avery Wilson of Greenville; one brother, James F. Wilson of Woodruff; one sister, Dell Alkema of Chula Vista, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Blackwell and Millie Donahue, both of Gaffney; two sons, Horace Painter of Gaffney and Garland Painter Jr. of Blackstock; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Mell Phillips Wood and son of the late Landrum Ellison Wood Sr. and Minnie Patrick Wood. He was a charter member of New Heights Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. In addition, he had served as a Baptist clerk for 46 years. He was also a retired farmer and was retired from Cherokee County maintenance department. He was married for 49 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Andra Wood of the home and Debra Wood of Perry, Ga.; one brother, Smith Wood of Gaffney; and three sisters, Ernestine Wood, Elois Sarratt and Meda Blackmon, all of Gaffney.
