Tracey Gowan Steadman, 36, of 177 Green River Road, died Nov. 4, 2000, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Spartanburg, she was the daughter of John Gowan of Spartanburg and the late Nancy McCarley Gowan. She was an employee of Chapman Elementary School and a member of Cannon's Campground United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father is her husband, Wayland Steadman of the home; one daughter, Lindsay Steadman of the home; two sisters, Linda Kay Cheatwood of Waynesboro, Ga., and Cindy Allen of Rutherfordton, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel conducted by the Rev. Jim Johnston. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Betty Jean Davis, 56, formerly of Spindale, N.C., died Nov. 4, 2000, at Autumn Care of Saluda, N.C. She was the daughter of Eulas and Margaret McDonald Davis.

ROEBUCK -- B. Clarence Anderson, 82, of 105 Pineridge Road died Nov. 4, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Laurens County, he was the son of the late Isaiah "Ike" and Mattie Rhodes Anderson and was the husband of Blessie O. Fryer Anderson. He was a long-term employee of Southern Railroad Company, retired from Springs Industries and was employed with Roebuck Baptist Church. He was a member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church in Roebuck.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Bobby Anderson of Roebuck, Billy Anderson and Lloyd Anderson both of the home; two sisters, Emma Ferrell and Evelyn Smith both of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The family is at the home.

Timothy J. Sizemore
Timothy James Sizemore, of 207 Strange Court, died Nov. 4, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Augusta, Ga.
Survivors include two sisters, Miriam Sizemore Corley of Augusta, Ga., and Deborah Sizemore Pruett of Martinez, Ga.; two brothers, William Edward Sizemore, Jr., of Belvedere, and Steven Robert Sizemore of Harlem, Ga.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel conducted by the Rev. Howard Bledsoe.

Albert D. Carter
Albert David Carter, 63, of 109 Woodbine Terrace, died Nov. 3, 2000, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Caroline County, Va., he was the son of the late Albert Hoyt and Virginia Allen Holloway Carter. He moved to Spartanburg in 1970 from Richmond, Va., and had owned and operated Imported Auto Parts for more than 19 years and was presently employed with Advance Auto Parts on East Main Street for the past seven years. He had served in the Army for eight years and was a member of the Stone Station Baptist Church in Roebuck.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Gayle Carter of the home; two sons, David Wayne Carter and Douglas Howell Carter both of Spartanburg; a daughter, Debra Gail Carter Bevis of Spartanburg, five sisters, Phyllis C. Barker of Ashland, Va., Faye C. Greene of Courtland, Va., Brenda C. Gayle of Beaver Dam, Va., Virginia C. Scott of Ruther Glen, Va., and Elaine C. West of Bumpass, Va., four brothers, James A. Carter, Stephen P. Carter, Daniel R. Carter and Michael L. Carter all of Ruther Glen, Va., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Heritage Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg conducted by the Rev. Tim Fowler.

Clara Reaves Jett, 94, formerly of Union Street, Spartanburg, died Nov. 5, 2000, at Oakmont Nursing Home in Greenville.
A native of Union County and a lifelong resident of Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late William Washington and Roxie Horne Reaves. She was the widow of Lieutenant Walter E. Jett. She retired from the Aug. W. Smith Company and was a former member of the Eastern Star and the Spartanburg Police Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son, Dr. William E. Jett of Greenville; one brother, Walter A. Reaves of Spartanburg; one granddaughter; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cryptside Greenlawn Spanish Mausoleum.
Cryptside services will follow at 11 a.m. at the mausoleum conducted by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes.

WELLFORD -- Lizzie Mae Mitchell, 87, of 46 Kemp Court, died Nov. 5, 2000, at her home.
A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Margaret Chapman and was the widow of Glenn Mitchell. She was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Collean Smith of the home, Wilhemenia Smith, Catherine Mitchell and Grace Franklin all of Spartanburg and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Milton O. Fletcher
CAMPOBELLO -- Milton Olynthus "Milt" Fletcher, 82, of 2391 Big Mulberry Trace, died Nov. 4, 2000, at his home.
A native of Richland, Ga., he was the widower of Mary Nell Grantham Fletcher. He attended Gramling United Methodist Church and was a World War II veteran serving as a Stars and Stripes correspondent in England for most of the war years and was a member of VFW Post No. 4667. He served as manager of the Chamber of Commerce in Douglas, Ga., from 1947 to 1961 and served as manager of the local Chamber of Commerce Service Department of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. from 1961 until his retirement in 1983.
Survivors include one son, Milton W. Fletcher of Campobello; two daughters, Mary Lynn Conway of Campobello and Ann Saufley of Marion, Va., 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petty Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gramling United Methodist Church and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Douglas, Ga.

A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late William Dave and Ruth Campbell Gosnell. He was a disabled Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include one brother, Jimmy Gosnell of Landrum and three sisters, Betty Page and Linda Gosnell both of Landrum and Susan Tapp of Forest City, N.C.

COWPENS -- James Foster Broome Sr., 72, of 147 Kasler Road, died Nov. 4, 2000, at Skylyn Health Center.
A native of Blythewood, S.C., he was the son of the late Durham Arthur and Annie Boney Broome. He was retired from Y.C. Ballenger Electrical Contractors and was a former superintendent of Broad River Electric Corp. He was a member of the New Pleasant Baptist Church of Gaffney. He was committed to the body of Christ serving several congregations as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and a member of the finance committee. He was a Mason, Jaycee and a volunteer with Mobile Meals.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith Broome of the home; two sons, Jamie Broome of Paducah, Ky., and Russell Broome of Spartanburg; one daughter, Elizabeth Broome of Cowpens; a sister, Edith B. Lyles of Winnsboro, S.C.; a brother, Dargan D. Broome of Ridgeway, S.C., and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at New Pleasant Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. George D. Holland and Jamie Broome. Burial will be in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens.

ANDERSON -- David W. Peace Jr., 78, of 2410 Highway 81 North, died Nov. 4, 2000, at his home.
A native of Carnesville, Ga., he was the son of the late David W., and Opal Fay Roberts Peace. He was the husband of Elizabeth McCulloch Peace. He was an Army veteran having served in the 803rd Combat Engineers, 31st Army Division, U.S. Far East Command during World War II and was a prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years. He retired from Owen-Corning Fiberglass and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson where he had been president of the Tom Allen Sunday School Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David L. Peace of Southlake, Texas and Robert Dale Peace of Tallahassee, Fla.; one brother, Robert Peace of Ashburn, Ga.; two sisters, Kathyrn Ramsey of Duncan and Doris Hester of Greer; and two grandchildren.

He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corp. Stationed in North Africa and serving in World War II. He attended the University of Georgia and Mercer University. He was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class at Green Acres Baptist Church and had pastored several churches throughout Georgia.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is a` son, Ronnie Barnhill of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Mitzi Barnhill Chriss of Somerset , Ky. and Grace Barnhill Coley of Warner Robins, Ga.; five half-brothers, Charles Barnhill of Baltimore, Md., Curtis Barnhill, Dewey Barnhill, Francis Barnhill, and John Barnhill, all of Gaffney; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he had served as a trustee, a former member of the Senior Usher Board and the Men's Fellowship. He was a retired employee from the former Community Cash Stores and also from Cecil Moore Co.
Survivors include his daughter, Pauline Shell Elmore of the home; two granddaughters reared in the home, Teresa Elmore of Spartanburg and Janice Sanders of Lanham, Md.; one grandson reared in the home, Bruce E. Elmore of Statesville, N.C.; one great-granddaughter reared in the home, Lacandra "Candy'' Elmore; three additional great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Altonia Austin and Lucille Varner, both of Spartanburg, Helen Miller and Frances Sims, both of New York, and Hester Rice of Pennsylvania.

Grace Pruitt Robertson, 87, of 137 Idlewood Circle, died March 24, 2001 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of James Fred Robertson and daughter of the late James J. and Maggie Cole Robertson. She was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and a retired textile employee.
Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy McDonald and Brenda Lynch of Pacolet, Peggy Cariens of Lexington, and Florence Sparks of Spartanburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at The Bobo Funeral Chapel. 1860 Cannons Campground Road.
Cryptside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Smith.

CLINTON -- Joanne Laverne Zimmerman, 57, died March 25, 2001 at Whitten Center in Clinton.
A native of Roebuck, she was the daughter of the late Haskell G. and Evelyn Jones Zimmerman. She attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roebuck.
Survivors include two sisters, Genna Vee Z. Cox of Inman, and Tracie E. Zimmerman of Spartanburg; one brother, the Rev. George R. Zimmerman of Inman; her stepmother, Carrie Bishop Zimmerman of Roebuck; two stepsisters, Peggy Gowens of Spartanburg and Phyllis Holder of Pauline; one stepbrother, Jerry Bishop of Conway; and two nieces and two nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. George R. Zimmerman. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.

HARRIS, N.C. -- Marcellus "Marc'' Absher, 72, of Harris, N.C., died March 24, 2001 at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Barnett and Vida Cody Absher. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church in Chesnee and had served as a former minister for the Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Christean Silver Absher; two sons, David Allen Absher of Waynesville, N.C., and William "Billy'' Absher of Concord, N.C.; four daughters, Janice Almitairi of Charlotte, N.C., Sally Elizabeth Bain of Holden Beach, N.C., Cynthia Marcell Absher of Bessemer City, N.C., and Dawn Absher Humphrey of Salisbury, N.C.; four brothers, Woodrow Absher, Arthur Absher and Junior Absher all of Spartanburg and Ernest Absher of Greer; one sister, Betsy Davis Powell of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pauline "Polly'' Nixon Manly, 76, of 1705 Skylyn Drive, died March 23, 2001, at Skylyn Health Care Center in Spartanburg.
A native of Anderson, she was the widow of John Bonner Manly Sr. and daughter of the late William Amos and Janna Ruth Hulme Nixon. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the St. Catherine Circle. She was a former employee of the Anderson Daily-Mail.
Survivors include one son, John Bonner Manly Jr. of Spartanburg; two daughters, Anne Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and Bonnie Hiatt of Boise, Idaho; one brother, John Junior "Nick'' Nixon of Anderson; one half-sister, Willie Nixon "Bill'' Young of Anderson; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Old Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, conducted by the Rev. Andy Anderson.
The family will receive friends at the Grace Episcopal Church Parlor at 3 p.m. Tuesday, following the service.

LANDRUM -- Alberta Ballew Smith, 82, of 200 Coleman St., died March 24, 2001 at her home.
A native of Landrum, she was the daughter of the late James Early and Lula Metcalf Ballew. She was a member of the Landrum First Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher in the girls youth department. She had worked in sales for the Aug. W. Smith Co. and also for Community Cash stores. She retired from Bommer Industries. She was named Miss Landrum in 1936.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard E. Smith of the home; one son, Mickey Baron Smith of Landrum; one daughter, Teresa Smith Shults of Campobello; one brother, Gary Ballew of San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Brady Gilmore, Virginia Andrews and Lucy Theo, all of Landrum and Dail Settle of Charleston; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Landrum First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Long. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

CHESNEE - Barry Lynn Wiley, 46, of 878 Buck Creek Road, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home.
A native of Mayo, he was the son of Shirley Rowe Wiley of Chesnee and the late Gary Lewis Wiley. He was a disabled millwright in the textile industry and attended Graham Chapel Wesleyan Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Gary Lynn Wiley of Conway, Casey Michael Wiley of Boiling Springs, and Joshua Lynn Wiley of Chesnee; one sister, Teresa Wiley Taylor of Chesnee; and two grandchildren, Angel Lynn Wiley of Conway and Daniel Lynn Wiley of Cowpens.

UNION - Edna Gregory Graham, 71, of 1329 Sardis Road, Union, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at 10:50 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Graham was born in Union on May 6, 1929, a daughter of the late Johnny and Della A. Greer Gregory. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and was a retired credit manager for Hammond-Brown-Jennings in Spartanburg, after more than 41 years of service.
Survivors include two brothers, Frank Gregory of Wichita Kansas, and Jack Gregory of California; and one nephew, Harold Graham of Pauline.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sardis United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Angelina Price. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.

MOORESBORO, N.C. - Lindon C. Spake, 91, of 552 Old Highway 221-A, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Henderson Health Care.
He was a native of Cleveland County, and a son of the late William D. and Palestine McGinnis Spake. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church and retired from Duke Power Co. He was married to the late Annie Kirby Spake.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jenny and Bo Scruggs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John Goforth. Burial will be in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

LITTLE MOUNTAIN - Services for the Rev. Dr. Alton C. Clark, 89, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3903 Forest Drive, Columbia, S.C., with entombment in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Homes, Chapin Chapel. Born November 14, 1911, in Little Mountain, S.C., he was the son of the late Henry Claud and Mattie Shealy Clark. He was a graduate of Newberry College and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He also received an honorary doctoral degree from Newberry College. Pastor Clark was the pastor-developer of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Anderson, S.C. from 1935 through 1958. He served the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Columbia from 1958 through 1975. In retirement, he was interim pastor of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Prosperity, S.C. for 18 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pomaria, S.C.
In 1965, Pastor Clark was first elected Chaplain of the S.C. House of Representatives and served there continuously until the time of his death. He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by that body in the year 2000. He was State Chaplain (Colonel) of the S.C. Army National Guard when he retired from the Guard. Pastor Clark was also part-time chaplain of the Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School from 1975 through 1981. He held many leadership positions at the S.C. Lutheran Synod and served community posts in Anderson, Columbia and Newberry.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Marion W. and Edith R. Clark of Spartanburg and Henry C. and Bobbie P. Clark of Prosperity; one sister, Miriam Clark Willingham of Newberry; four grandchildren, Henry C. "Trip'' Clark, Denise C. Anderson, Jenny Marks, and Marjorie Clark; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Alice Warner Clark, originally from Prosperity, S.C., and a sister, Thelma Clark Derrick of Walhalla, S.C.

Everett W. Eaker
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Everett William Eaker, 90, of 3700 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C., died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Wesley Care Center in Charlotte, N.C.
A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late George Fletcher and Bertha Waldrop Eaker.
He graduated from Spartanburg High School, was a 1939 graduate of Ben Franklin University in Washington, D.C., and attended the University of North Carolina.
He was employed as an accountant associated with Dombhart and Holden in Charlotte until his retirement.
He had been a Mason for more than 40 years and was a member of the Excelsior Lodge No. 261, and he was also a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1927 to 1932 and was assigned to submarine duty in the Pacific. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theatre during World War II, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Frances Eaker Willard and Delores Eaker Soboski, both of Spartanburg; four nieces and one nephew.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Boyd Fletcher Eaker and Grover Broadus Eaker.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Brown.
