Peter Wing officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at the church cemetery. A native of Chester, Mr. Beckham was a son of the late William J. Beckham and Ella B. Beckham. He was a retired salesman for the New South Life Insurance Co. He was a former elder at Oak Ridge ARP Church. He was a life member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53. ROCK HILL - Mr. James Thomas Brannon, 75, of Rock Hill died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Hogg and the Rev. Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery. A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Brannon was a son of the late Thomas Clarence Brannon and Lola Ballard Brannon. He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School. He was a manager at Brooks Jewelers and worked at Marshall Jewelers for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Christine Rawls Brannon; his daughter, Betty Brannon Robinson of Rock Hill; his brother, Barney Brannon of Fort Mill; two sisters, Mary Bigham and Polly Love, both of Rock Hill; and his grandson. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park. A native of Mount Airy, N.C., Mr. Easter was a son of the late George and Bertie Fleming Easter. He was retired from Springs Industries with 50 years of service in the Catherine Plant in Fort Mill and the Chester plant. He was a former coach and manager of the Carolina Roofing softball team. Surviving are his wife, Laura L. Easter; his son, Jackie Leon Easter of North Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Brenda L. A native of Quincy, Mass., Mr. Hann was a son of the late Bruce Hann and Mabel Collett Hann. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a veteran of the Merchant Marines. He was a retired tug boat engineer with Crowley Towing and Tug Co. of Long Beach, Calif. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Swift was a daughter of Eddie C. Johnson of Brooklyn and the late Lillie M. Feaster Johnson. She was a member of Upper Hope Station Baptist Church, where she was an usher and a member of the Hymn Choir and the Ladies Group. She attended the public schools of Brooklyn and was a day-care center operator in Fayetteville. Surviving in addition to her father are two sons, Frazier Swift and Mark Swift, both of Fayetteville; five daughters, Tashawn Swift, Claudia Swift, Amanda Swift, Patricia Swift and Sherika Swift, all of Brooklyn; her adopted brother, Mannie Brown of Brooklyn; two sisters, Vanessa Johnson-Tate and Amy C. LOS ANGELES -"Mr. Carl A. Davis, 70, of 1510 Veronica Drive, formally of York, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, in Los Angeles. A native of York, Mr. Davis is a son of the late Will and Amanda Meeks Davis. He graduated from the Southwestern University of Law and practiced in Los Angeles. He was a member of the Walker Temple AME Church and belonged to the NAACP. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the California Democratic Club. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Davis; his daughter, Carlene Davis of Los Angeles; two brothers, James Roger Davis and Harper J. Mrs. Lowery, who was born in Rock Hill, attended the public schools of York County and was an employee of Springs Industries for 27 years prior to her retirement. A former member of Saint Matthew AME Zion Church, Mrs. Lowery was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where she sang in the Gospel Chorus. Surviving are her husband, Sam Lowery; her son, Alexander Gaines; five sisters, Sallie G. Bertha, Emma G. Hinton, Martha G. Gleen, Elizabeth G. ORLANDO, Fla. - Mr. Walter H. Martinson, 94, of Palm Valley Circle in Oviedo, Fla., died Thursday, May 20, 1999. A native of Rutherford, N.J., Mr. Martinson was a warehouse clerk for the U.S. Government. He was a member of the Salvation Army Men's Club and the International Matchbook Cover Club. DUBLIN, Ga. - Mr. Douglas P. Roper Sr., 72, of Dublin, Ga., died Thursday, May 20, 1999, in Vidalia, Ga. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dublin, Ga., with Dr. Roger Mackey officiating. A native of Spartanburg, Mr. Roper was a World War II Navy veteran. He served as a Sunday school teacher, Elder and clerk of the Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dublin, Ga. Mr. Roper retired from J.P. Stevens and Forstman, Inc., as plant manager. He was the widower of Betty Burns Roper. Surviving are two sons, Douglas P. Roper Jr. of Vidalia, Ga., and Thomas B. Roper of Rock Hill; his daughter, Candice R. Frederick of Sylvester, Ga.; two sisters, Betty R. Strother of Spartanburg and Bobbie R. Gibson of Morrow, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren. YORK - Mr. Robert "Bob" Lee White, 71, of 620 Meadowbend Road died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. The memorial service is 4 p.m. today at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James Gable officiating. Mr. White was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and a 19-year veteran for the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was retired from Frank's Appliance in Rock Hill and worked at the Ace Hardware store in Newport. Mr. White was also a dedicated volunteer for the Animal Adoption League of York County. Surviving are his two sons, Clarence Fleming Jones Sr. of Rock Hill and Jack Lee Jones of Mountain City, Tenn. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Walter B. White officiating. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery in Rock Hill. A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Labon Sitgraves and Lillie Jordan Sitgraves. She joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated in the Rock Hill schools and taught at Friendship Junior College. She later taught at a correctional center in Baltimore. She was the widow of Adolphus Chinn and Paul Johnson. Surviving are her brother, John Manning of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three sisters, Lucy S. Clemons of Rock Hill, Rita S. Foote of Winston-Salem and Helen S. Lathan of Durham. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church. Clemons Funeral Home and Russell Funeral Home are in charge.

Harold O'Brien
ROCK HILL - Mr. Harold William O'Brien, 85, of 4170 Wedgewood Court died Monday, May 24, 1999, at home. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tirzah ARP Church, with the Rev. Jan Senneker. Burial will be private. A native of Orange Park, Fla., Mr. O'Brien was a son of the late Talmage Boynton O'Brien and Maggie Viola Reed O'Brien. He was retired from Hoechst-Celanese with 30 years service. He was a member of Tirzah ARP Church and Newport Corinthian Lodge 416. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the EAME Service Medal with a Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. Surviving are his wife, Pauline P. O'Brien; his son, Randall W. Byrum of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sheila L. Wiggins of Flowery Branch, Ga.; his sister, Virginia Inez Jordan of Gastonia, N.C.; and three grandchildren. The family will receive friends after the memorial service. Masonic Rites will be performed at 6:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 S.
