CLOVER - Mrs. Helen Virginia Black Carpenter, 78, of Beverly Health Care died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Rock Hill.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodside Cemetery.
A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Carpenter was a daughter of the late William Pickney Black and Emma Lee Sipes Black. She was the widow of Johnnie Earl Carpenter.
Surviving are her son, Johnny W. Carpenter of Gastonia, N.C.; three daughters, Brenda C. Wilson of York and Virginia Rose Barton and Wanda C. Moses, both of Clover; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Wanda C. Moses, 107 Valley Ave., Clover.

CONCORD, N.C. - Mrs. Ann Amelia Morrison Drye of 850 Williamsburg Drive died Monday, June 14, 1999.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Covenant Classical School.
Mrs. Drye was a daughter of Beatrice Tarlton Morrison of Concord, N.C., and the late Dallas W. Morrison. Mrs. Drye and her husband, David, were co-founders of the David Drye Co.,
which specialized in the development and management of apartments, hotels and other real estate ventures in the Carolinas, which included Gable Oaks in Rock Hill. They were
founders of Covenant Classical School.
Surviving in addition to her mother are three sons, David Drye Jr. of Concord and Jonathan Drye and Matthew Drye, both of the home; five daughters, Tamara Robb of Charlotte, Leann
Littlefield and Jennifer Jewell, both of Concord, and Mary Margaret Drye and Elizabeth Drye, both of the home; her sister, Martha Morrison Barkley; and 12 grandchildren.

CONCORD, N.C. - Mr. David Lynn Drye of 850 Williamsburg Drive died Monday, June 14, 1999.

A native of Concord, Mr. Drye was a son of the late Floyd L. Drye and Louise Honeycutt Mullis. Mr. Drye and his wife, Ann, were co-founders of the David Drye Co., which specialized in the development and management of apartments, hotels and other real estate ventures in the Carolinas, which included Gable Oaks in Rock Hill. They found Covenant Classical School.

PHILADELPHIA - Mr. James "Jim" Foote, formerly of Chester, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be Saturday at Len E. Ellis Funeral Home, 529 Rising Sun Ave., Philadelphia. Burial will be private.
A native of Chester, Mr. Foote was a son of the late Albert Foote and May Bell Mills Foote. He was the widower of Christine Glenn. He joined Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age.
Surviving are his son, James Henry Foote of Philadelphia; his daughter, Yvonne Foote of Philadelphia; his sister, Florie Foote Carter of Chester; and six grandchildren.

ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. - Mrs. Martha F. Hargrove, 77, died Monday, June 15, 1999, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.
The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Colboch-Price Chapel with Father Michael Jennings officiating. Burial will be at McKinney Cemetery.
A native of Hancock County, Tenn., Mrs. Hargrove was a daughter of the late Mack Fugate and Martha Emma Johnson Fugate. She was the widow of Connie Hargrove. She was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary.
Surviving are three stepsons, Dave Hargrove of Michigan, C.B. Hargrove of Atlanta and Ralph Hargrove of Alabama.

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Alberta W. Minor, 79, of 1213 Devine St. died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Hancock officiating and the Revs. Mary Alston, Ira Roddey and Alfred Jackson assisting. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Chester County, Mrs. Minor was a daughter of the late Charlie Walton Sr. and Mamie Meadows Melton. She was the widow of Robert Minor. She was retired from Winthrop College.
She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age and later joined First Calvary Baptist Church, where was past church secretary, Sunday school teacher, past Sunday school treasurer,
president of the Hymn Choir, member of the AP&B Society, program committee and Missionary Society.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas L. Minor and Jerome Minor, both of Rock Hill, William E. Minor of Bridgeport, Conn., and James E. Minor of Charlotte; four daughters, Robbie M. Gettys, Helen M. Chambers, Brenda E. Minor and Shirley R. Minor, all of Rock Hill; her brother, Emoria Walton of Ansonia, Conn.; three sisters, Cora Drayton of Charlotte, Willie Ruth Moffatt and Ellen Barnette, both of Stratford, Conn.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

CHESTER - Mr. John Harvey Mobley, 84, of 2400 Pressley Road died Tuesday, June, 15, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Gregory Keller, the Rev. Dr. Harold Liner and the Rev. Edward Tager Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.
A native of Chester County, Mr. Mobley was a son of the late Joseph Mobley and Tiny Mobley. He was the widower of Maggie Darby Mobley. He was retired from Springs Industries and was a produce salesman. He was a member of First Church of the
Nazarene. He attended the Chester County schools.
Surviving are three daughters, Magdelene James and Alma Lee Roof, both of Inman, and Nancy Keenon of Chester; six sons, Winfield Mobley, Zeddie Mobley, Johnnie Mobley, William "Doodle' Mobley, Phil Mobley and David "Hoppy" Mobley, all of Chester; his sister, Ducky Benson of Chester; 27 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

A native of Fort Mill, Mrs. Whitley was a daughter of the late Charles Pruett Blankenship and Sadie Kimbrell Blankenship. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Joe Bill "Pete" Greene Jr., 72, of 1108 John St. died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald Scoggins and Chaplin Miriam Mick officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of Greenville County, Mr. Greene was a son of the late Joe B. Greene Sr. and Eva White Greene. He was the widower of Carrie Sweatt Greene. He was owner of Rock Hill Masonry Contractors and helped organize the Serenity Club of York County.
He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II.
Surviving are his daughter, Kelly G. Totherow of Rock Hill; his step-daughter, Delorese Thompson of Rock Hill; his brother, Truman D. Greene of Charleston; his sister, Barbara G. Huff of Belton, S.C.; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one step great-grandchild.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Tony Barr Jr., 61, of 216 W. Moore St. died Monday, June 14, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A native of York County, Mr. Barr was a son of the late Tony Barr Sr. and Essie Talford Barr. He was educated in the public schools of York County and graduated from Clinton Junior
College. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. Mr. Barr was a self-employed carpenter.
Surviving are his son, Robert Gains of Charlotte; two daughters, Yvone Barr of Rock Hill and Daffeney B. Boseman of McConnells; two brothers, John Talford of Rock Hill and John
Barr of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.

A native of Fort Stockton, Texas, Mrs. Fraley was a daughter of the late Carol Connor McAlister and Doris Dunn McAlister. She was formerly employed at Creative World Day Care in Rock Hill and the Boys Home of York County. She attended the Potter County Schools in Amarillo, Texas.
Surviving are her son, the Rev. Michael K. Price of Lake City; two daughters, Linda P. Sudol of Chester and Lisa P. Wright of Rock Hill; two brothers, Charles McAlister and Richard
McAlister, both of Amarillo; and five grandchildren.

Carol R. Cannon officiating.
A native of Fairview, Okla., Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Ura Ira Smith and Ruth Sunderman Smith. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Rock Hill.
Mrs. Smith was the widow of John R. Smith, who owed Smith Drugs in Rock Hill.
Surviving are three sons, Rod Smith of Charleston, Steve Smith of Myrtle Beach and Mike Smith of Greenville; her brother, Lyle Smith of Oklahoma City; and six grandchildren.

A native of Lexington, N.C., Mr. Swicegood was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church and the American Association of Textile Chemist and Colorist and Caroliana Chemical Club. He was employed at FMC Corp.

A native of Lockhart, where he attended school, Mr. Dickerson was a son of the late John Dickerson and Mary Dickerson. A member of First Baptist Church, he was retired from J. P.
Stevens Co. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge 227 and Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his wife, Algie M. Dickerson; and two sisters, Bernice Gallman of Great Falls and Frances Acheson of Laurens.

A native of Kershaw, Mrs. Belk was the daughter of the late Willie Bud and Mary Juanita Roberts Ellis. She was a member of the Great Commission Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are her husband, Donald "Mickey" Belk; her son, Johnny Lee Poston Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Joyce Whitaker and Penny Manzanarez, both of Lancaster; her brother, Lee A. Ellis Sr. of Lancaster; three sisters, Doris Wright, Dolly Belk and Edna Sims, all of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

KERSHAW - Mrs. Eva Louise Robinson Criminger, 89, of 985 Neds Creek Road died Friday, June 18, 1999, at home.

Burial will be at the Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Criminger was born in Waxhaw, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Charles Augustus and Jennie McAteer Robinson and the widow of Henry Grady Criminger. She was a homemaker and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Bobby Criminger of Hudson, Ohio; her daughter, Nancy Seegars of Kershaw; two brothers, Coy Robinson and Otha Robinson, both of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brice was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Kershaw. He was the son of the late Copeland and Lelia Catoe Dorman. He was an U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was retired from DuPont. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Roberts Dorman; his son, Dennis Charles Dorman of Florence; his daughter, Sandra Watson of Kershaw; four brothers, John C. Dorman of Lancaster, and Coley B. Dorman, Roy J. Dorman and the Rev. Clarence W. Dorman, all of

A native of Monroe, N.C., Mr. Parks was the son of the late Grady R. and Sarah Hargett Parks. A member of Westend Baptist Church, he was a retired truck driver for Ferrell Transport.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Taylor Parks of the home; two stepsons, Jimmy Lavonne Ford of McConnells and Michael Douglas Ford of Rock Hill; two stepdaughters, Gail Delores Ford of York and Cheri Lynn Henry of Charlotte; four sisters, Gwendolyn Beck and Diana Marthers, both of Rock Hill, Joyce A. Roach of Clover and Sandra Foushee of Charlotte; and eight grandchildren.

YORK - Mrs. Sue Molsberry Peterson, 78, of 1051 Topaz Lane died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Westminster Health Care Center.
The funeral will be 6 tonight at Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Bill Shytle officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Peterson was a daughter of the late Howard C. and Wilma Molsberry. She was of the Episcopal faith.
She was active in the Piedmont Kennel Club. Mrs. Peterson was vice president of Peterson Plastic of Claremont, N.H., a family-owned toy manufacturing plant.
Surviving are her husband, William C. Peterson; three sons, William E. Peterson of Tampa, Fla., Daniel M. Peterson of Lake Wylie and Scott L. Peterson of Rock Hill; her daughter, Ila
Peterson-Bloomdahl of Overland Park, Kan.; her sister, Roberta Warren of Michigan; and six grandchildren.

PHILADELPHIA - Mr. George A. Williams, 91, of 4934 Germantown Ave., formerly of Chester, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Germantown Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, with the Rev. W.H. Woods Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Rehoboth AME Zion Church in Chester.
Mr. Williams was born in Cairo, Ga., and he was the son of the late Alice Grace Williams and Lee Brown. He attended publicschools in Cairo, and he was a member of Overcoming Church in Philadelphia.
He was the owner and operator of Pop's variety store.
Survivors are his wife, Annie Mae Howze Williams of Philadelphia; two sons, Keith Williams and Sam Williams, both of Philadelphia; his daughter, Mary Anderson of Philadelphia; three brothers, Albert Williams and Mack Williams, both of Cairo, and Isiah Williams of North Carolina; two sisters, Alice Williams of Cairo and Mabel Jones of Thomasville, Ga.; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles H. Freeland Jr., 51, of 207 Arbor Court died Friday, June 18, 1999, at home.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Baptist Church Chapel, with the Rev. Whit Breazeale officiating. Burial will be private.
A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Mr. Freeland was a son of the late Charles H. Freeland Sr. and Vivian Freeland. He was formerly a registered nurse and a member of New Kirk Baptist
Church. He was a U.S. Marine veteran who served three tours in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and a member of the First Marine Corp League.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Irwin Freeland; two stepsons, Joseph Holder and Brooks Holder, both of the home; his stepdaughter, Laura Holder of the home; and three brothers, Jim
Freeland of Ohio, David Freeland of Marietta, Ohio, and John Freeland of Youngstown, Ohio.

A native of Gaston County, Mr. James was a son of the late Arthur James and Pearl Sanders James. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he was on the Senior Usher
Board. A member of Brice Lodge No. 530, he served as treasurer for 14 years. He was a member of Armstrong Temple of Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine in Clover and received an award from the National Imperial Grand Council in 1998. He was a member of the Mount Harmony Church Aid No. 6 and the Gastonia Friendly No. 2. He was an U.S. Army veteran and received an Eamet Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and a Victory Medal.
Surviving are his wife, the Rev. Dorcas Tate James; his daughter, Doris L. McCoy of Gastonia; his sister, Estelle Rambert of Gastonia; two grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

Mrs. Irby was born in Greenville County. She was the daughter of the late A.W. Dill and the late Annie Fleming Dill. She was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and a 1937 graduate of Winthrop College. She taught school in Kingstree and retired from the York County Social Services Department in 1980. She was preceded in death by her brother, Winfred O'Keith Dill. She was the widow of C.L. "Buddy" Irby, her husband of 60 years.
Surviving are her daughter, Eilene Irby Morgan and her son-in-law, Perry W. Morgan, both of Spartanburg; and her sister, Irene Loftis of Clinton.

He was retired from Springs Industries as well as a mason and a member of Hart Masonic Lodge 211.

She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She attended the Rock Hill public schools and worked at Highland Park Mill for 20 years and Smith Enterprises for a number of years.

A native of Greensboro, N.C., Mr. Hobbs was a son of the late Walter "Ben" Hobbs and Fannie Elizabeth Hinson. After graduating from Greensboro Senior High School, he joined the armed forces and served in occupied Japan as military policeman and member of General Douglas MacArthur's Honor Guard. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1950. He was vice president and general manager of General Latex and Chemical
Corp., where he served 40 years. He was a Little League baseball coach and Pop Warner football coach. He was a member of the Mecklenburg Optimist Club and Park Road Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years.

Mr. Sullivan was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Browing-Skyes Sunday School Class and assisted leading the singing. He was retired from the Rock Hill Police Department with 30 years service. He was a graduate of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Ky. Mr. Sullivan was top marksman for the police department during his service and competed annually at the South Carolina state competition. He organized the Rock Hill Police Retirees Club. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Rock Hill Police Pistol Club.

Mr. Martin served in World War II and was a veteran of campaigns in Sicily, Italy and North Africa, receiving a Presidential Unit Citation for his part in halting the German advance at Kasserine Pass. He also served aboard the USS Boxer during the Korean conflict.
Surviving are his son, Michael Waldron of Smyrna; his daughter, Donya E. Beasley of Clover; his brother, John Waldron of Milton, Pa.; and three grandsons.

ROCK HILL - Ms. Odessa Young of Magnolia Manor, formerly of Chester, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Magnolia Manor.
Arrangements will be announced by Christopher King's Funeral Home, 703 Old York Road, Chester.
The family will be at the home of her son, Aaron Young Sr., and her granddaughter, Connie White, 336 Barnes St., Rock Hill.
