INMAN – Gilbert M. Miller, 52, of 418 Clark Glenn Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Born in Spartanburg County in 1951, he was the son of the late William F. and Rebecca Conard Miller. He worked at Mohawk Industries and was a member of Valley Falls Freewill Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kneisley Miller; two daughters; two sons; two stepdaughters; one stepson; three sisters, Janie Shirley Wise of Gaffney, Ellen Ballard and Ann Bowers, both of Spartanburg; a brother, William Miller of Spartanburg; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Valley Falls Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Carter. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery, Roebuck.
The family is at the home.

Leatha D. Hollis
Services for Leatha Dawkins Hollis, 82, formerly of 411 Suez St., Gaffney, wife of Charles Hollis Sr., will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Dewey Whittenburg, Willie Mayes, L.C. Roberts, Lucious Whittenburg and Dr. U.D. Vernon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Walter Burris, Grady Hollis, James Hollis, Joe Burris, Robert Littlejohn and Eddie Littlejohn.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Flower bearers will be Betty M. Vernon and the deaconess of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Honorary flower bearers will be Clara Dardy, Clemetime Young, Nancy Watkins and Earnestine Means.

Mary E. Lavender
Homemaker
Mary Ruth Evans Lavender, 74, of 644 11th St., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Ben Hill Lavender and daughter of the late Herman Linwood Evans and the late Grace Eggers Evans. She was a homemaker and member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Lavender and Bruce Lavender, both of Gaffney; a daughter, Karen Lavender of Gaffney; three grandchildren; and a sister, Gail Evans Smith of Greer.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by Drs. Clyde Thomas and M.B. Morrow. Entombment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family is at the residence.

Mary B. Erwin
Retired from textiles
Mary Brannon Erwin, 102, of Cross Hill died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Pacolet, she was the widow of James William Erwin and daughter of the late Thomas Percy Brannon and the late Eulayla Becknell Brannon. She was retired from textiles and was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who loved traveling, croquetting and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Bernice E. Brooks of Chester and Joanne E. Vassey of Cross Hill; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Erwin was preceded in death by a son, Jim Erwin, and two daughters, Kitty McNett and Ethel Wilcox.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Jimmy Brooks. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30-2:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
Frances M. Burgess
Pacolet native
Frances Millwood Burgess, 78, formerly of 622 Old Race Track Rd., died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Brookview HealthCare Center.
Born in Pacolet, she was the widow of James Cleveland Burgess and daughter of the late Noah Millwood and the late Bertha Womack Millwood. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Corinth Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mahala Sunday School Class for over 30 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Keenan of Gaffney; three sons, Carroll Burgess, Terrell Burgess and Mike Burgess, all of Gaffney; a sister, Virginia Phillips of Gaffney; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Russel Burgess, David Burgess, Tracy Blanton, Tony Blanton, Rick Burgess, Ronnie Burgess, Rick Burgess and Ronnie Burgess.
The family is at the home of a son, Carroll Burgess, 602 Old Race Track Rd.
Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church Building Fund, 190 Corinth Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

Margie P. Crowe
Former store cashier
Margie Lucille Peterson Crowe, 76, of 1025 McKown’s Mountain Rd., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at her home.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Charles Crowe Jr. and daughter of the late Benjamin Peterson and the late Sarah Ann Parker Peterson. She was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and was a former store cashier.
Surviving are a son, Donnie Crowe of Gaffney; four daughters, Elizabeth Rathbone of Cherokee Falls, Linda Emery of Gaffney, Brenda Deaton and Cathy Owensby, both of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by sisters, Viola McAbee, Martha Mullinax, Versie Mullinax, Margaret Upchurch, Pearl Peterson, Christina Peterson and Lula Mae Peterson, and brothers, Kennon, Aaron, Luther, David Peterson and Jessie Peterson.
Services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tommy Wright, Roger Ham and William Blanton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Andy, Randy, Michael Carter, Wesley Crowe, Bruce Mullinax and Richard Burgess.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg and at other times they will be at the residence.
James P. Cooksey
Retired test driver at Ford Research/Engineering Center
James Paul Cooksey, 79, of 158 Draytonville Church Rd., died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Cladie Phillips Cooksey of the home and son of the late Earl Cooksey and the late Annie Mae Wright Cooksey Pennington. He was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church, a Shriner and Mason in Buffalo Lodge 202.
Mr. Cooksey served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Ford Research and Engineering Center in Michigan where he was a test driver.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, James W. Cooksey of Lake Orion, Mich., and Earl C. Cooksey of Waterford, Mich.; two grandsons; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Todd Braswell and Robert Ivey. Entombment will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg.
Pallbearers will be Chris Parris, Ricky Phillips, Donnie Phillips, Dale Phillips, Danny Mathis, Hoke Parris, Lick Jones and Bobby Cooksey.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

Elizabeth B. Linder
Services for Elizabeth Bridges Linder, 92, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Danny L. Burnside, Charles Montgomery, John Edward Wilkins and Drs. J.W. Sanders Sr. and C.V. Owens. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be his nephews and great-nephews and nieces and great-nieces, respectively.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Philadelphia Baptist Church and honorary flower bearers will be the church’s Senior Missionary and Deaconess.

Nancy L. Reeves
Services for Nancy L. Reeves, 44, of 585 Old Metal Rd., will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mrs. Reeves, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003.
Nancy Garrett
Services for Nannie (Nancy) Gowan Garrett, 89, formerly of Town and Country Apartments, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ron Jackson. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Church cemetery in Greer.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of her granddaughter, Ann Gordon, 110 Tumbleweed Dr.
Mrs. Garrett, a native of Chesnee, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Peachtree Centre. She was a retired day care worker.
Memorials may be made to East Gaffney Baptist Church, 2308 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
Margie E. Davis
Retired textile employee
Margie Sara Ellis Davis, 75, a resident of the Peachtree Centre, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Beryl D. Davis and daughter of the late James W. Ellis and the late Dottie Horton Ellis. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. She was a beloved mother and homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna D. Smith and Susie D. McElrath, both of Gaffney; two sons, Randy D. Davis of Blacksburg and Douglas G. Davis of Gaffney; a sister, Elva E. Jolley of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Davis, and a brother, Sam Ellis.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Harry Crosby and Weldon Sellers. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Alan Smith, Sean McElrath, Dustin Davis, Clyde McElrath, Fred Smith and John Dustin White.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of her daughter, Donna Smith, 202 Raintree Lane.
Memorials may be made to the Peachtree Center, Third Floor, 1434 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
