Geraldine Blanton
Services for Geraldine Blanton, 67, of 156 Pauls Road, were held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Moorehead. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Henry Harris, Rocky Ruppe, Roger Blanton, Ricky Martin, Richard Beatty and Gerald Yarborough.
The family is at the home of Cathi Martin, 154 Pauls Rd.

Worley Turner
Tennessee native
Worley A. Turner, 85, of 104 Saddle Drive, died Monday, July 5, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Newport, Tenn., he was born on Rocky Top Mountain. He was the son of the late Jasper and Laura Smith Turner. His family moved to Gaffney in the early 1920s. In 1942, he and his twin brother, Horace, went into business for themselves as saw and tool sharpeners. He loved hunting, fishing, target shooting and metal detecting.
In addition to his twin brother, Horace, of the home, he is survived by a sister, Mamie McCraw, of Peachtree Centre; a niece, Laura Turner, and nephew, Jimmy Turner, whom he helped raise and who both thought of him as a second father; a niece, Lisa Jenkins, whom he loved as a daughter. Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by three brothers, Ike Turner, Jona Turner and Bill Turner, and a sister, Parilee Painter.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at Oakland cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Hall officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at White Columns of Gaffney and at other times they will be at the home of Laura Turner, 131 Cheyenne Rd., Gaffney.

Winfred A. Elliott Sr.
Retired from textiles
BLACKSBURG – Winfred A. Elliott Sr., 73, of 109 Wren Way Road, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
A native of Gaffney, he was retired from textiles and was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria Jean Elliott and Sherry Arlene Elliott of Blacksburg; two sons, Winfred A. Elliott Jr. of Blacksburg and Jason Lewis Elliott of Shelby; a stepson, Jackie Barlow Elliott of Blacksburg; a brother, Elvin Elliott of Jasper, Fla.; three sisters, Connie Bonsor of Leesburg, Fla., Velma LeMaster of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Gloria Hamrick of Little River; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.

John Wayne Barnhill
Self-employed auto mechanic
John Wayne "Big John" Barnhill, 66, of 522 Sixth St., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in Dorchester County.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Thomas Clarence Barnhill and the late Willie Opal Underwood Barnhill. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.
Surviving are three daughters, Jennifer Barnhill, Kristie Barnhill and Marie Foster, all of Gaffney; four brothers, Dewey Barnhill, Curtis Barnhill, Francis Barnhill, all of Gaffney, and Charles Barnhill of Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren.
The family is at the home of Judy Blanton, 447 Silica Springs Road.
Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.

Drayton M. Clary
Services for Drayton M. Clary, 84, of 404 E. Buford St., were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by Dr. Bobby Morrow and Jimmy Moss. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Mike Gallman, Keith Wood, David Hendrix, David Moody, Tyler Christopher Hendrix, Case McKinley Wood, Jason McDuffy Wood, Drayton McClary Moody, David Jesse Moody III, and Michael Kye Gallman.
The family is at the residence.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jermaine Jefferies
Services for Jermaine Jefferies, 24, of 102 Mascot Dr., will be held today at 3 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church conducted by Drs. U.D. Vernon and James W. Sanders Jr. and the Revs. Danny Tate and Lawrence Davidson. Burial will be in Green Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge.

Linda Gibson
Oklahoma native
Linda Ann Gibson, 50, of 1305 Asbury Road, died Monday, July 5, 2004.
A native of Heavenez, Okla., Linda claimed South Carolina as her home. She was the wife of William Henry Gibson and daughter of the late Lynn R. and Madeline McDaniel.
Mrs. Gibson was a 1972 graduate of Gaffney High School, a member of Goucher Baptist Church and was saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed swimming, fishing and planting flowers.
Also surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Jamie Gibson, Terri Gibson and Kelly Gibson, all of the home; a sister, Dr. Diana Mullis of Charleston; and two brothers, Mike McDaniel and Frances (Fran) Wayne McDaniel, both of Gaffney.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, July 8, at 4:30 p.m. at Goucher Baptist Church with Mr. Richard Sellars and the Rev. Lynn Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Duvall, Shane McDaniel, David Seals, Richard "Snake" Sellars, Jackie Wilkie, Michael Wilkie, Ricky Littleton and Mark Matheny.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at White Columns of Gaffney.
Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.

Maude Jolley
Retired textile employee
CHESNEE - Maude D. Jolley, 88, of 208 Reynolds Drive, died Monday, July 5, 2004, in a local nursing home.
A native of Marshall, N.C., she was the widow of Herman W. Jolley and daughter of the late Camey Davis Sr. and the late Alice Norton Davis. She was a retired textile employee, a faithful member of Chesnee First Baptist Church and a devoted member of the VSP Club.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deborah Anne Jolley, two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hunter of Moore; two sons, Bobby Joe Jolley and Winford L. Jolley, both of Chesnee; a sister, Virginia Anne Brown of Chesnee; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held today at 11 a.m. at Springhill Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Gary Grogan, Dr. Troy Gregg and the Rev. Preston Edwards.
The family is at the residence, 208 Reynolds Rd., Chesnee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chesnee First Baptist Church, Children's Playground Fund, 211 S. Kentucky Ave., Chesnee, S.C. 29323.

Webster L. Evans Sr.
Founder of Evans Tire Service
COWPENS – Webster Lawson Evans Sr., 88, of 310 Mayo Road, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at a local nursing home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Irene McGraw Evans and son of the late Alex and Mae Yelton Evans. He was founder of Evans Tire Service in Mayo and was a member of Mayo First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Jr. Evans of Mayo; a sister, Connie Parham of Spartanburg; three brothers, Jim Evans, Harry Evans and Lawrence Evans, all of Cowpens; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mayo First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tom Baker and Larry Fleming. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church just prior to the service.
The family is at the home.

Ruth I. Schumpert
Retired dental assistant
Ruth Isabell Schumpert, 75, of 523 W. Montgomery St., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Ed Schumpert and the late Blanche Stroup Schumpert. She was a retired dental assistant and a member of Draytonville Baptist Church.
Surviving are a number of cousins.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service and at other times will be at the home of Madge and Barry Patterson, 357 College Drive.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

Flora B. Sams
Retired from Cone Mills
Flora Blake Sams, 71, of 521 W. Montgomery St., Apt. 17, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare Systems.
Mrs. Sams was the daughter of the late John Henry and Bessie Greenway Blake. She was a retired weaver from Cone Mills in Greensboro, N.C., and was a member of Silica Springs Baptist Church in Gaffney. The Because He Lives Group of her church was a special blessing to her. Mrs. Sams was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a daughter, Jerri Lynn Johnson of Gaffney; a son, Richard E. Blake of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Becky Johnson of Spartanburg, Pete Johnson of Chesnee and Cindy Smith of Grey Court; and two special friends, Doris J. Henderson and Della Rector, both of Gaffney.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel B. Reid and Vera Childress, and two brothers, Charles Blake and James Blake.
Graveside services will be held today, July 16, at 4 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Lynn Ford.
Memorials may be made to Silica Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Box 867, Pacolet, S.C. 29372.
The family is at the daughter’s home, 164 Goforth Drive, Gaffney.

Charles M. Fowler
Employed by Fowler Electric
Charles Michael Fowler, 54, of 501 Hamrick St., died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of Janice Gail Adams Fowler of the home and son of Paul R. and Louise Buice Fowler. A native of Cherokee County, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a member of the BPOE Lodge No. 1305. He was employed by Fowler Electric.
Also surviving are two sons, Justin Fowler of Gaffney and Joseph Garrett of Murphy, N.C.; four daughters, Angela Carroll and husband, Robert L. Carroll Jr., of Gaffney, Stephanie Self of Laurens, Stephanie Garrett and Jessica Garrett, both of Murphy; one grandchild, Leah Paige Carroll; and a brother, Phillip R. Fowler of Gaffney.
The family will receive friends at both the funeral home and the home of his parents, 310 Rogers St., Gaffney, from 6-8 p.m. today.
A graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Cable.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Fowler, Abie Fowler, Tim Fowler, Billy Fowler, Perry Buice and Robert Carroll Jr.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.
