Tammy Sims, 40, of 112 Martin Lane, Ivywood Apartments No. 1204, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at 11:10 p.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Daughter of Jo Ann Sims of the home and the late L.C. Sims, she was a native of Gaffney and a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1983 graduate of Gaffney High School.
Surviving are a daughter, Tamoria Sims of Gaffney; a son, Tyrone Sims of Gaffney; a sister, Robin Sims of Gaffney; four brothers, Laurice Sims of Miami, Fla., Charles Sims of Honolulu, Hawaii, Rory Sims of Detroit, Mich., and Stevie Sims of Hackensack, N.J.
Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Golden. Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Marie Padgett Kelly
Teacher, businesswoman
BLACKSBURG – Marie Padgett Kelly, 88, died at her residence Sunday morning, Dec. 26, 2004.
Mrs. Kelly was a life-long resident of Cherokee County. Her parents were Thomas R. Padgett and Mary Frances Albright Padgett. A veteran of World War II, she was a public school teacher, a businesswoman and graduate of Limestone College. Her husband was the late Charles M. Kelly.
Surviving are a sister, Jo Carol Padgett Pulliam of Spartanburg; a son, Thomas M. Kelly of Mauldin; a daughter, Ann Kelly Tadlock of Blacksburg; and a son-in-law, George Michael Tadlock, also of Blacksburg.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens, conducted by Mr. Michael Tadlock.
Pallbearers will be Richard Edmund, Andy Kelly, Danny Kelly, Steve Kelly, Dustin Martin, Dustin Smith, Steve Whitener and Bill Whitesides.
The family is at the residence.

Robert H. Taylor
Retired police investigator
Robert Hilliard Taylor, 78, of 500 River Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Greensboro, Pa., he was the husband of Trevelin McLaughlin Taylor of the home and son of the late Joshua Taylor and the late Lavina Hilliard Taylor. He was a retired investigator for the Cleveland Heights Police Department in Ohio and was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and life member of the VFW. He enjoyed camping and watching sporting events on television.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Robert H. Taylor of Spartanburg; a stepson, Timothy Roderick of Ohio; eight grandchildren, Cassidy N. Taylor, Robert H. Taylor III, Kristy A. Taylor, Ashley M. Taylor, Alex Roderick, Paige Roderick, Jamie Vesel and Melody Ferrari; and one great-grandchild, Valentino Johnson.
Cryptside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. Ron Jackson.

Dorothy P. Smith
Retired from Limestone Mfg.
Dorothy Elizabeth Petty Smith, 68, of 115 Buckson St., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at her home.
Widow of the Rev. Whitworth Smith, she was born in Gaffney, a daughter of the late Sheron B. Petty and Maggie “Loutee” Brown Petty. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she served as former president of the Willing Workers Missionary, a member of the Vernon Choir and Mt. Sinai Senior Citizens. She was also a member of Gaffney Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Smith was a retired employee of Limestone Manufacturing Company. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Petty and Sheron L. Petty.
Surviving are a son, J. Bernard Petty of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Julia P. Bright and Janice Petty, both of Norfolk, Va., and Mamie Petty of the home; a sister, Jacqueline P. Black of Charlotte, N.C.; and five grandchildren, including Anthony Petty of Norfolk, Va., and Valencia Petty of West Columbia.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Dewey Whittenburg, Dennis Rector and L.C. Roberts and Drs. Michael Bridges and J.W. Sanders Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Frank D. Lipsey
Retired municipal judge for Town of Jonesville
JONESVILLE – Frank D. Lipsey, 96, of 301 Forest St., widower of Bernice P. Lipsey, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at 7:40 a.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mr. Lipsey was born in Cherokee County on Feb. 28, 1908, a son of the late Bunyan and Enzie Harris Lipsey. He was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, former director of the Training Union and former director of the Brotherhood. Mr. Lipsey was retired from J.P. Stevens Company, Jonesville Plant, and was also a retired municipal judge for the Town of Jonesville.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane Addis and Sherry Gregory, both of Jonesville; a sister, Violet Ivey of Union; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lipsey was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Moss and Frances Holt; a son, Harold (Bud) Lipsey; three brothers and four sisters.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Jonesville Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown and the Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer. Burial will be in Gilead Baptist Church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Mr. Lipsey's grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
Active and inactive deacons of Jonesville Baptist Church will serve as honorary escort.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home in Union.

Mary D. Olmstead
Avid Bridge player
Mrs. Mary Duncan Olmstead of Washington, Ga., died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004.
Mrs. Olmstead was a homemaker, a former member of the Washington Garden Club and an avid Bridge player. She was a member of Washington Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Olmstead is survived by her husband, David; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Scott Darden of Charlotte, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Jill Olmstead of Charlotte and John and Kelly Olmstead of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Bill Duncan of Greenwich, Conn., and John Duncan of Ivoryton, Conn.; grandchildren, Will, Chandler and Caroline Darden, Jack and Ben Olmstead and Lauren and Camille Olmstead.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Washington Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Resthaven cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6-8.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Washington Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Winfred D. Davis Sr.
Founder of Gaffney Pawn Shop
Winfred Dever Davis Sr., 83, of 101 Greenbriar Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare.
A native of Rutherford County, N.C., he was the husband of Anita Vess Davis and son of the late Rome Pinkney Davis and the late Lattie Owens Davis. He was a retired pawn broker and founder of Gaffney Pawn Shop.
Mr. Davis was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, life member of the VFW and former commander (All American). He was also a member of the Elks Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Winfred and Hilda Davis Jr. of Gaffney; a daughter and son-in-law, Treasa and Barry Bagwell of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Casey Davis-Beattie and Anna Bagwell, both of Gaffney; and two sisters, Beuna Pearl McCraw of Gaffney and Firleen Davis Holt of Mooresboro, N.C.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by Herbert Blaine Davis, Roy Finnie Davis and Bertha Inez Davis.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the interment at the home of Barry and Treasa Bagwell, 1965 Love Springs Road, Gaffney.

Retired from Spartan Undies
Willie Rose Blanton Childers, 76, formerly of 500 Holmes St., died today, Dec. 29, 2004, at Brookview HealthCare.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of J.V. Childers and daughter of the late W.T. Blanton and the late Rosa Price Blanton. She was retired from Spartan Undies and was a member of West End Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Beth Childers Linder of Gaffney; a sister, Joyce Stacy of Gaffney; two brothers, Thomas Alton Blanton and Wallace E. Blanton, both of Gaffney; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Beth Linder, 114 Iron Ore Road, Gaffney.

Paul E. Peterson Jr.
CHESTER – Paul Edward Peterson Jr., infant son of Paul Edward Peterson Sr. and Cortney Gaffney Peterson of 755 Langley Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in Piedmont Medical Center.
Surviving in addition to his parents are maternal grandparents, Ralph and Deborah Gaffney of Rock Hill; maternal great-grandmothers, Patsy Nabors of Grey Court and Elsie Elkins of Rock Hill; and paternal grandparents, Steven and Sandra Peterson of Gaffney.
Services will be private.

Clarence Dawkins
Gaffney native
Clarence William Dawkins, 53, of 111 Park Place, Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, in Presbyterian Hospital, New York City.
Born in Gaffney, he was a son of Rose A. Dawkins of New York City and was raised by his grandparents Grady and Flora (Sister) Dawkins Watkins. He was a member of Suck Creek Baptist church.
Also surviving are his wife, June Dawkins of the home; two sons, Tyrone Dawkins and Terrence Dawkins, both of Chesnee; a daughter, Tracy Dunn of Chesnee; three brothers, Calvin Dawkins of Forest City, N.C., Grady Dawkins and Johnny Ray Dawkins, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Lucy Littlejohn of Gaffney and I.V. Dawkins of New York City; and nine grandchildren.
The family is at the home of Johnny Ray Dawkins, 708 Stateline Road, Gaffney.
