John E. Williams Sr.
Textile employee
John Edward Williams Sr., 57, of 871 Racetrack Road, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of Louise White Moore and the late Martin Pinkney Williams. He was a textile employee and a member of Independent Baptist Fellowship Church.
Surviving are two sons, John Williams Jr. and James Williams, both of Gaffney; two daughters, Joyce Moreno and Judy Lowery, both of Gaffney; three half-brothers, Martin P. Williams Jr., Daniel Williams and Timmy Williams, all of Gaffney; three sisters, Ophelia Blackwood, Carolyn Messer, both of Gaffney, and Peggy Hawkins of Cross Anchor; four half-sisters, Maxine Owens, Ann Mullinax, Marie Hughey and Vicky Benton, all of Gaffney; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Harris.
Services will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Joe Paul Turner. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Louann Fowler
Retired from Timken
Lillie Louann Fowler, 50, of 700 Dogwood Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at 7:40 a.m in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Daughter of Modestine M. Fowler and the late Lincoln Fowler, she was a native of Gaffney and a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was a 1972 graduate of Gaffney High School and retired from The Timken Co.
Surviving are a daughter, Kasey R. Fowler of Spartanburg; two sons, Adam M. Fowler and Benjamin Fowler, both of Gaffney; seven sisters, Judy F. Buckson of Johnson, Tenn., Elaine Allen, Gwen Oglesby, Connie Fowler, Joanie F. Allen, Jill F. Smith and Gwen Dawkins, all of Gaffney; three brothers, Larry D. Fowler, Lincoln Fowler and Jerry S. Fowler, all of Gaffney; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m.at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Michael A. Bridges and the Revs. Kerwin Wray, Jerry Manning, Roderick Oglesby and Warren Manning. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Terry Dawkins, Carlos Hardy, Levi Jefferies, Josh Littlejohn, Damion Shippy, Preston Smith, Terrance Smith and Joe Watkins.
Flower bearers will be Chasity Allen, Shakerre Allen, Corrie Davis, Fairline Fair, Lillie Jefferies, Gina Littlejohn, Wanda Taylor and Ann Weeks.

Margie Pearl Alexander Durham
EASLEY - Margie Pearl Alexander Durham, 82, of 100 Evergreen Street, diedTuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. She was the wife of the late Thomas Leland Durham and the daughter of the late Frank and Estell Abercrombie Alexander.
A native of Oconee County, Mrs. Durham was retired from Pratt-Read in Central.
Following her retirement, she worked as a child caregiver. She was a member of Easley Church of God where she was a former Secretary and Treasurer of the Young at Heart Club and also taught Sunday School.
Surviving are one daughter, Gayle Nester and her husband, Noel, of Easley; three sons, Larry Durham and his wife, Joyce, of Six Mile, Haskel Durham and his wife, Jewell, and Donnie Durham and his wife, Nancy, of Six Mile; one sister, Jessie Ellenburg of Six Mile; and one brother, Lawrence Alexander of Seneca; twelve grandchildren; tweny-one great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harrison Alexander; and two sisters, Essie Stone and Grace Kelly.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Don Earl Dean
GREENVILLE - Don Earl Dean, 67, of 10 York Circle, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at his home. He was the son of the late John Dean and the late Estelle Brannon Loveless.
A native of Gaffney, Mr. Dean was a member of Abner Baptist Church in Spartanburg and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is survived by his son, Michael Dean of Sumter; a brother, Herman Dean; two sisters, Shirley Hurd of Spartanburg and Judith Watt of Starr; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rick Clark officiating.

PITTSBURGH - Charles Bonner, 50, died Thursday Nov. 4, 2004 in the Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Penn.
The son of J.L. “Mossie” Jefferies and the late Willie Mae Bonner, he was a native of Gaffney. He is survived by his father: J.L. “Mossie” Jefferies; step-mother, Martha R. Jefferes; three daughters, Cherainah Bonner of Sarasota, Fla., Terra Simpson and Tiffany Simpson of Pittsburgh; two sons, Charles Gilmore of Atlanta, Ga. and Darnell Bonner of Pittsburgh; six sisters, Lynn Brown, Michelle Wilson, Gayle Carnell, Eartha Robbs, Sheila Miller and Lori Jefferies; and two brothers, Steve Robbs and Ricky Robbs.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Odell Robinson Funeral Home in Pittsburgh.

Savage Fuller
Ellen Tate Savage Fuller, 104, 300 Magnolia St., died Monday, November 8, 2004 at the home of her son Ralph Savage. She was the widow of Robert Fuller and Randolph Savage and the daughter of the late Benjamin Tate and the late Nancy Jefferies Tate.
A native of Union County, she was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a farmer.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Savage of the home and Randolph Savage Jr. of Shelby, N.C.; one daughter, Vinnie Wood of Dayton, Ohio; 45 grandchildren and 101 great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Carl F. Melton
Retired from Gaffney Mfg.
Carl F. Melton, 78, of 1010 South Limestone Street, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at his home.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Vivian Davis Melton and son of the late William B. Melton and the late Minnie Joanna Price Melton. He was retired from Gaffney Manufacturing Company after 47 years of service and attended Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Melton was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sherry Mesimer and husband, Dale, of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; and Sandy Melton of Woodstock, Ga.; a son, Rhett Melton and wife, Grenelda, of Gastonia, N.C.; four grandchildren, Daniel Mesimer, Eric Mesimer, Justin Melton and Tyler Melton; and a sister, Madge Martin of Belmont, N.C.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends today from 10-11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas. Burial will be private.
Pallbearers will be Carl Martin, Brad Phillips, Gene Phillips, George Price, Brian Turner, Jim Wright, Terry Spencer and David Vassy.

Lois Morgan Gettys, 92, formerly of 122 Gettys Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Peachtree Centre.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of William Arthur Gettys Sr. and daughter of the late Rhett Morgan and the late Junie Huskey Morgan. She was a homemaker, member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are four grandchildren, William Milan Gettys, Tony Madison Gettys, Gay Gettys Guthrie, Lorrie Gettys Morris, all of Gaffney; and eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Gettys, Kristin Gettys, Samantha Gettys, Marc Gettys, David Gettys, Callie Guthrie, Kale Guthrie and Mac Morrow.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gettys was preceded in death by a son, William Arthur Gettys Jr.; an infant son, Tony Gettys; an infant daughter, Gloria Gettys; two brothers and six sisters.
Graveside services were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by Dr. Roger Aycock.
Pallbearers were Lynn McCraw, Donnie Morgan, Jack Morgan, Leonard Hughey, Bobby Scruggs, Mac Morrow, Jeffrey Gettys and David Gettys.

GREENVILLE - Thomas W. Mayo, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Washington, N.C., and a National Guard veteran, he was the widower of Myrrha James Mayo and son of the late Ben and Susie Mayo. He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are four children, Gwen Collins of Brazil, Lynn Kruger of Broadway, N.C., Ben Mayo of Earl, N.C., and Wayne Mayo of Gaffney; 14 grandchildren; and a brother, Gene Mayo of Pensacola, Fla.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Greenville Memorial Gardens, conducted by Pastor Harold Underwood.

Wallace M. Phillips, 78, of 204 Ninth St., died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Cline G. Phillips and the late Annie Mae Fowler Phillips. He was retired from Limestone Manufacturing Company after 30-plus years of service and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lana Kay Erwin and husband, Larry, of Gaffney and Janice Rebecca Peeler and husband, Eddie, of Mooresboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Monica Maria Anthony of Shelby and Matthew Edward Peeler of Cliffside, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ellen Wallace of Gaffney, Elizabeth Whitlock and Dorothy Martin, both of Spartanburg; and a brother, Olin Ray Phillips, of Gaffney.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Paul Noe and the Revs. Warren Fowler and Stuart Kersey.
