U.S. Navy veteran
James Edward Barnes Sr., 66, of 1303 Cherokee Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Mr. Barnes was the widower of Betty Bell Barnes and son of Lennie Frazier Barnes of Gastonia, N.C., and the late Wiley Barnes. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a daughter, Tammy B. Perry of Gaffney; a son, James B. Barnes Jr. of Blacksburg; two brothers, William Barnes of Ranlo, N.C., and Earl Barnes of Gaffney; seven sisters, Grace B. Gamble of Gastonia, Ruth B. Colon of Punta, Fla., Shirley B. Cote of Florida, Betty B. Gamble of McAdenville, N.C., Sandra B. Barnes of Meriden, Conn., Elizabeth B. Hall and Maxine B. Bell, both of Kings Mountain, N.C.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at a later date.

Cora E.F. Bradley
Former Gaffney resident
Cora E.F. Bradley, 94, formerly of Gaffney, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Lexington Court Nursing Home in Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Bradley was a native of Del Rio/Big Creek Township in Cocke County, Tenn. She was born June 5, 1910, and was the daughter of the late John Ellison and the late Samantha Reece Haynes Ellison.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bradley was preceded in death by her husbands, Steve Fleming and Roy M. Bradley; a son, Hayden A. Fleming; a grandson, Robert Fleming; three half-sisters, "Gertie" Gertrude Haynes Cowell, Flora Ellison and Carrie Ellison Stokely; three brothers, Hugh, Clayton and Marcus Ellison; and two half-brothers, Dewey and Reuben Haynes.
Surviving are two granddaughters, Rhonda Fleming Collins and Crystal Fleming; a grandson, Chris Fleming; a daughter-in-law, Alma Fleming; and two great-grandchildren, Moranda and Brianna Fleming, all of the Richmond, Va., area.
Mrs. Bradley was the granddaughter of the late George and Nancy Holland Ellison and the late C.H. and M.L. Reece, all of whom resided in the Cocke County, Tenn., area.

WOODRUFF – Molly Phillips Mayes, 54, of 107 Stoneledge Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at 11 p.m. at her residence.
A native of Marion, Ala., she was the wife of Wayne J.W. Mayes and daughter of the late Lucinda "Cindy" Phillips. She served in the U.S. Army for seven years as a nurse medical specialist at Walter Reid Hospital in the District of Columbia. She was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Gaffney and attended Alabama A&M; University.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Anthony Bernard Mayes Sr. of Gaffney; a sister, Evelyn Craig of Marion, Ala.; three brothers, Sears Lee Phillips of Perry, Fla., Ray Phillips of Marion, Ala., and William M. Phillips of Syracuse, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a nephew and niece whom she reared as her children, Reginal Phillips, Mershall Craig, both of Marion, Ala., John John Phillips, Marion Lee and Marcus Lee, all of Terry, Fla.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The family is at the home of her mother-in-law, Genell Mayes, 2407 Beech St., Gaffney.

"Tucker" Phillips Jr.
POW in World War II
Thomas "Tucker" Phillips Jr., 80, of 2097 Wilkinsville Hwy., died today, Nov. 24, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Margaret Louise Phillips of the home and son of the late Thomas Phillips Sr. and the late Amanda Spencer Phillips. He was retired from Southern Loom Reed Manufacturing Company and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II were he was a POW.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Terry Phillips of Roxboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Meg Phillips Pierson of Raleigh and Spencer Parris Phillips of Columbia; a great-grandchild, James Thomas Pierson; and two sisters, Velma Blanton and Bernice Phillips Patterson, both of Gaffney.
The family is at the residence.

"Macey" Ramsey

Ethel Mae "Macey" Ramsey, 77, of 1105 Clary St., died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of Thomas M. Ramsey and daughter of the late John Elliott Hughes Sr. and the late Mae Jefferies Hughes. She was a former retail sales clerk, a homemaker and member of Limestone Presbyterian Church.
Also surviving are a son, Ed Ramsey of Boiling Springs; a daughter, Nancy Ashe of Gaffney; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, John Elliott Hughes Jr. of Gaffney; and two sisters, Elizabeth Millwood and Molly Elmore, both of Gaffney.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Hughes, and a grandson, Scott Ramsey.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan E. Youngblood. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hughes, Elliott Hughes III, Roy Hughes, Robert Allen Millwood, Danny Kelly, David Vassy and Tracy Parris.
The family is at the residence.

Daisy Louise Anthony Dellinger, 87, formerly of 347 Limestone Springs Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Peachtree Centre.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Johnny Randolph Dellinger and daughter of the late Thomas Anthony and the late Lula Wyatt Anthony. She was a former textile employee and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Daisy Inez White and Faye Coleman, both of Gaffney; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four sons, Johnny Buren Dellinger, Charles Junior Dellinger, Terry Lee Dellinger and Alfred Ray Dellinger, all of Gaffney.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her common-law husband, Alan Seagle; a son, James Horace Dellinger; a daughter, Naomi McCraw; and a sister, Winnie Phillips.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle, conducted by the Revs. Betty Gentry and Henry Guyton. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Doug Coleman, Kevin Coleman, Bobby Willard, Anthony Dellinger, Jesup Dellinger, Christopher Coleman and Tim Whisenant.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Faye Coleman, 102 Hillcrest Drive, Gaffney.

Bryan Scott Jones, 31, of 402 Tenth St., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, in Cherokee County.
A native of Miami, Fla., he was the son of Gerald Jones and Myrtice Price Jones. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his fiance, Michelle Massey of Cowpens; a son, Ethan Jones of Cowpens; two sisters, Cathy Burns of Springfield, Ga., and Holly Schira of Coral Springs, Fla.; two brothers, Eddie Smith of Springfield, Ga., and Eddie Jones of St. Cloud, Fla.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Hogan McCluney, 68, of 269 Beltline Courts, Apt. 3-D, Christ-opher Lynn Estates, wife of the Rev. Timothy McCluney, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at 6:30 a.m. at her residence.
Daughter of the late Barry Lee Hogan and the late Lucy Hogan McBerry, she was a retired cook at Broad River Truck Stop. She was a member of Youngs Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary and Pastor Aid Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Linda McFadden, Jeanette Smith, both of Gaffney, Patricia Washington of Washington, D.C., Mary Hogan and Martha Hogan of Orlando, Fla.; step-daughters, Bessie Degree and Anita Chambers, both of Gaffney, Gladys McCluney and Sandra McCluney, both of Blacksburg, and Debra Gill of Fayetteville, N.C.; sons, Jessie Smith of Gaffney, Gene Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Anthony McFadden of North Carolina; stepsons, Timothy Howard McCluney Jr., Warren McCluney, both of Gainesville, Fla., and Johnny McCluney of Blacksburg; two sisters, Pecolia Black of Washington, D.C., and Jewel Stodghill of Atlanta, Ga.; three brothers, Willie Hogan of Atlanta, Berry Hogan Jr. and Johnny Hogan of Orlando, Fla.; 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Larry J. Brooks and the Revs. David Vernon, Johnny McCluney, Michael Hull and Dewey Whittenburg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Youngs Grove Baptist Church.
