James Robert Turner, 71, formerly of 305 Kentwood Road, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Brookview HealthCare.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Barbara Teague Turner and son of the late Lawrence Edward Turner and the late Elizabeth Spencer Turner. He was a retired department manager with Limestone (Lowenstein) Mill and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are two sons, Richard D. Turner and Robert L. Turner, both of Gaffney; a daughter, Teresa T. Sanders of Gaffney; three sisters, Christine Robertson, Catherine Hill and Eva "Bunt" Wallace, all of Gaffney; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oakland cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Richard Turner, 305 Kentwood Road.
Peggy Callahan
Homemaker
MOORESBORO - Peggy Joann Scoggins Callahan, 57, of 3825 Dedmond Road, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of Fred Scoggins of Dallas, Texas, and the late Jessie Butler Scoggins. She was a homemaker and member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dusty Callahan of the home; two sons, Shannon Arrowood of Forest City and Kelly Arrowood of Blacksburg; a brother, Brent Scoggins of Pawhuska, Okla.; two sisters, Phyllis Barnett of Dallas, Texas, and Sharon Johnson of Rutherfordton; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Larry Fleming and Terry White. Burial will be in Cliffside cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Mckinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.

Nancy W. Duckett
Gaffney native
UNION - Nancy Wylie Duckett, 59, wife of Halon McArthur Duckett of 2028 Jonesville Hwy., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Duckett was born in Gaffney on May 14, 1945, a daughter of Gene and Gladys Searcy Wiley of Union. She was a graduate of Union High School and member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are two daughters, June Carol Davis and Julie Duckett Horne, both of Union; two sons, Danny Halon Duckett of the home and Richard Keith Duckett of Gaffney; a sister, Linda Blanton of Gaffney; a brother, Tom Boyle of Union; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Warren Jones and Clarence Crocker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.
Lillie R. Jefferies
Retired from Sunset Diner
Lillie Ruth Jefferies, 84, of 112 Granite Drive, widow of Fleetwood Jefferies Sr., died Fri-day morning, Dec. 3, 2004, at her residence.
Daughter of the late Clinton Rice and the late Lina Rice Rice, she was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Union County. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1990. She was also preceded in death by two children, Mary Francis Lumpkin and Jesse Browning Jr.; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Mrs. Jefferies was a member of the Church of Christ on Marion Avenue and was a retired cook from the Sunset Diner.
Surviving are four sons, Fleetwood Jefferies Jr. of Gaffney, Matthew Jefferies Sr., John D. Jefferies, both of Spartanburg, and Terry L. Jefferies of the home; a daughter, Teressa McDowell of the home; 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 616 Marion Ave., conducted by the pastor, Brother Edward Hughes, and Brother Ivory Hunter, Brother Grady Mickles, Brother King Littlejohn, Brother Samuel Means and the Rev. L.D. Dawkins. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Pallbearers will be the brothers of the church and flower bearers will be her granddaughters and church members.

Hampton J. Corry
Cross-country truck driver
Hampton Jones Corry, 79, of 401 Warburton Ave., Apt. 1C, Yonkers, N.Y., died at Allen Pavi-lion Hospital in Bronx, N.Y.
He was the son of the late Mamie Jones Corry and James Arthur Corry and was a cross-country tractor trailer driver for over 40 years. He was born on June 17, 1925, in Gaffney and was educated in the Cherokee County public schools.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Corry was preceded in death by a son, Hampton Alonzo Corry.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie G. Corry of Gaffney; two daughters, Dr. Beverly Corry of Gaffney and Detta Jefferies of Suitland, Md.; three sons, Hampton Sakyle Corry, Tyvian Reese Corry and Sheldon Lamont Corry of Yonkers; a stepson, Roger Sherman Gaston of Waterbury, Conn.; a sister, Janelle Coleman of Gaffney; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Limestone Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Golden. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Carlisle (Junior) Cook
Korean War veteran
Carlisle (Junior) Cook, 72, of 2815 Old Georgia Hwy., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, he was the widower of Vera Jean Davis Cook and son of the late H. Cook Sr. and the late Ida Bell Scruggs Cook. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby Dean Cook of Gaffney and Clarence J. Cook of Jonesville; a daughter, Martha Jean Cook of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a brother, Smith Cook of Gaffney; two half-brothers, Robert (Bobby) Holsclaw of Gaffney and H. Cook Jr. of Shelby; a half-sister, Etta Jane Evans of Gaffney; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a son, John Edward Cook, and a brother, Leonard Cook.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Harold Dean Painter, Forest Teague and Altie Teague. Burial will be in Cowpens cemetery. Body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Gregg White, Bruce Cook, Chris Cook, Matt Cook, David Henderson and Dewayne Nemeth.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Henderson, Pete Blackwell and Buddy Petty.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary and at other times they will be at the home of his granddaughter, Tina Henderson, 103 Freezer St., Gaffney.

Shirley W. Blackwell
Retired textile employee
Shirley Wylie Blackwell, 64, of 409 Hardin Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Blacksburg, she was the wife of A.G. Blackwell and daughter of the late John Wylie and the late Lummie Childers Wylie. She was a retired textile employee and of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cathy Butler of Gaffney; one grandchild; a brother, Olin Wylie of Spartanburg; and two sisters, Eliza Driskill and Louise Patterson, both of Blacksburg.
The family is at the residence where they will receive friends any time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of S.C., 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29341; or to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 E. Montgomery St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Drayton M. Clary
Owner of Superior Laundry and Dry Cleaners
Drayton M. Clary, 84, of 404 E. Buford St., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Ann Moss Clary and son of the late Drayton M. Clary Sr. and the late Edna Elmore Clary. He was owner of Superior Laundry and Dry Cleaners and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and David Hendrix, Celia and Keith Wood, Jill and David Moody, all of Spartanburg, and Sylvia and Mike Gallman of Fort Mill; brothers, Joe Max Clary and Dean Clary, both of Gaffney; sisters, Rizpah Clary and Mary Edna Clary, both of Gaffney; grandchildren, Laurie Kristen Hendrix, Tyler Christopher Hendrix, Ann Ashley Wood, Case McKinley Wood, Jason McDuffy Wood, Drayton McClary Moody, David Jesse Moody III, Carlin Clary Gallman and Michael Kye Gallman.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel with burial in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Gallman, Keith Wood, David Hendrix, David Moody, Tyler Hendrix, Jason Wood, Mac Moody, Jesse Moody and Case Wood.
The family is at the residence.

Lottie Bridges
Retired educator
Lottie Louise Byers Bridges, 72, of 1626 E. Frederick St., widow of Pon F. Bridges, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at 1:15 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Will Byers and the late Gillie C. Byers. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a 1944 graduate of Coulter Memorial Academy in Cheraw. She received a B.A. degree in 1959 from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and earned her master’s in education from A&T University in Greensboro.
Mrs. Bridges was a retired schoolteacher. She taught at Southside Elementary in Gaffney for 20 years, three years at Jonesville Elementary and three years at Lake Shore Elementary in Belle Glade, Fla.
She was a member of the Cherokee County Chapter of the NAACP, the first president of Indian Hill Senior Citizens Club, and was a member of the Senior Centers of Cherokee County. For many years she was an active civil rights leader. She was a member of the Thickety Mountain Association Choir.
Surviving are a daughter, Pondrienna B. Stevenson of Gaffney; a son, Dwight W. Bridges of the home; three grandchildren, Dominique Stevenson of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Andrenna Stevenson of Clafin University, Orangeburg, and Deandia Bridges of Delray Beach, Fla.; and one great-grandson.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kathy Reid
Gaffney native
SUMMERVILLE – Services for Kathy Simmons Reid will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at Summerville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Summerville cemetery.
Mrs. Reid, 44, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at her home. Born March 30, 1956, in Gaffney, a daughter of L. Edward Simmons and Barbara Kirby Simmons, she graduated from Gaffney High School. She was a homemaker, a member of Summerville Baptist Church and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Summerville public schools. She was past president of Carolina Independent Auto Dealers Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Shuyler “Chuck” Reid III of Summerville; mother, Barbara Simmons of Summerville; two daughters, Summer Reid and Cheyenne Reid, both of Summerville; two brothers, Coleman E. Simmons and Duke Wayne Simmons, both of Summerville; a sister, Scarlett Wactor of Summerville; and a grandson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Ave., Summerville, S.C. 29483.
