Mr. Commarato, widower of Allene Roberts Commarato, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Born in Caldwell, N.J., he was a son of the late Louis and Bess Dana Commarato. He retired after 45 years as a plant manager for Standard Container.
Surviving are his sons, Gregory Commarato of Picayune, Miss., Eric Commarato of Madison, Miss.; daughters and son–in–law, Karen and Lee Allen Smith of Bethune, Andrea Brain of Trego, Mont.; sisters, Ann Commarato of Mountain Lakes, N.J., Rose Commarato of Mountain Lakes, N.J., Mildred Zichelli of Mountain Lakes, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; three great–grandchildren.

Funeral services for Thomas Glover Jordan, Sr., 93, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins and Teri McDowell Ott will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Jordan, widower of Leila Pearce Jordan, died Monday, Jan. 6. Born in Fairfield County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Lizzie Beaty Jordan. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy, a member of the American Legion #53, a former Harley Davidson Dealership owner, one of the founding members of the Hartsville Rescue Squad, one of the parents responsible for building the Little League Baseball field, and rode motorcycles until he was 87 years old.
Surviving are his son, Tommy G. Jordan Jr. of Hartsville; and granddaughter Kim Jordan of Hartsville.
SADIE P. MACK
Funeral services for Sadie Dae Peoples Mack were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in the Bethel Community with the Rev. Frederick Yebuah, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mack was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Charles and Marie Woodham Peoples. She was educated in the Darlington County public schools, graduating from Butler High School. She continued her education at North Carolina A&T; in Greensboro, N.C., with an associate degree in secretarial science. Later she attended Morris College in Sumter and received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. She furthered her studies on the master's level at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Mrs. Mack was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities: Sunday School superintendent and teacher, president of the United Methodist Women for over 19 years, Lay Leader, Communion Steward, chairperson of Vacation Bible School, Pastor Parish Relation Committee Member, Church Historian and Office. As a community leader, she taught and retired from the Darlington County School District with a total of 35 years of service. She served as Guardian Ad Litem, volunteer for the Darlington County Voter Registration for 25 years, a volunteer for Byerly Hospital for eight years, founding and life–long member of the Les Dignitaries de la Ville Inc., founding member of the May Coker Garden Club, a 35 year member of the National Teacher Association, member of the Darlington County Task Force, and member of the Butler Heritage Foundation.
Survivors are four children, Gail Belinda Mack of Macon, Ga., Tommie (Sandra Cooper) Mack Jr. of Powder Spring, Ga., LaShelia (Wade) Mack Wyatt of Greenville and Milton Gerald (Corinthia Gee) Mack of the home; seven grandchildren, Cascile Aude Wyatt, Sterling Mack, Taylor Mack, Wade Wyatt Jr., Morgan Mack, Marina Mack and Mauria Mack; a daughter by marriage Vermell (Thomas) Mack McClain of Lamar; six grandchildren by marriage, Thomasena (Willie) Davis, Aubrey McClain, Sheron (Donald) Gilmore, Linda (Ulysses) Faircloth, Bernard McClain, and Patrick McClain; 12 great–grandchildren; four great–great grandchildren; one sister, Magnolia Wingate of Darlington; one brother–in–law and two sisters–in–law.
ROSA LEE FRAZIER
Funeral services for Rosa Lee Dorothy Wilson Frazier, were held at noon on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Mt. Zion AME Church in Wisacky, S.C. with the Rev. Franklin Spears officiating. Burial was in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Frazier died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Verdell Jackson Wilson. She was educated in the public schools. She was married
to Carroll Frazier. She was a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church, its Missionary Society, and visited the sick and shut–ins.
Survivors are her husband, Carroll Frazier of the home; two daughters, Jaclia David of Lamar and Diane King of Glendale, Md.; four brothers, Dan (Bernice) Wilson of Newport News, Va., Charlie (Ada) Wilson III of Detroit, Mich., James H. Wilson of New York, N.Y. and Harry Wilson of Hartsville; four sisters, Geneva (Theodore) Wells of Mayesville, S.C., Virginia Coe and Ann (John) Hickson of Columbia and Ada (Benjamin) Kelly of Charleston; one grandson, Travis Davis of Lamar and two great–grandchildren.
TONY JOHNSON
Funeral services for Anthony Tony Bryce Johnson, 17, were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Randy Gulledge officiated with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Jan. 4. Born in Charleston County, he was a son of James Lonnie and Patricia Sims Johnson Hayden. He was in the 10th grade at Hartsville High School.
Surviving are his father and mother of Hartsville; brother, Billy Johnson, also of Hartsville; step–brother, Jamie Hayden; step–sister, Renee Woody, both of Gastonia, N.C.; maternal grandmother, Belva J. Gilbert of Hartsville.

WEST ATCO, N.J. — Funeral services for Willie Mays, 72, formerly of Darlington, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, West Atco, N.J. with pastor Lee C. DeRamus, officiating. Burial followed in Berlin cemetery, Berlin, N.J. with local announcements by Mitchell–Josey Funeral of Darlington.
Mr. Mays died Tuesday, Dec. 31, in a Berlin, N.J. hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of late Lucius and Cora Johnson Mays. He was the widow of Zulene Mays. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools. In 1968, he and his family moved to New Jersey where he was employed for the New Jersey Cement Plant.
He was predeceased by two children, Odell and Patricia Mays and two sisters, Elouise Kirven and Edna Mays Carter.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; a son, Willie Earl Mays of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Louise Poole Thomas; three nieces, Betty of N.J., Ann and Susan Kirven of New York; two nephews, Willie of Houston, Texas and Larry Kirven of Phoenix, Ariz.; close cousin Isaiah Coe, Mary Poole, Naomi Bostic, all of Darlington; other cousins and friends.

LAMAR — Theo Woodham died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at his residence after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Margaret Woodham, 643 Prosperity Drive, Lamar.

Hazel Littles, 46, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
WOODROW TYNER
Funeral services for Woodrow Tyner, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, from the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with burial in the Cedar Creek cemetery.
Mr. Tyner died Monday, Jan. 6. He was born in Camden, a son of the late Charlie and Lola Outlaw Tyner.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Gregory Tyner of Cassatt; six daughters, Audrey Grantham of Effingham, Valerie Ann Drew of McBee, Zyphia West, Candi Catoe, Joyce Tyner, all of Camden and Wanda Sue Kee of Cassatt; four sons, Donald Gainey of Society Hill, Marvin Scott, Heustess and Joey Tyner, all of Camden; three sisters, Catherine Gainey and Elaine Atkinson, both of Hartsville and Lila Chisholm of Patrick; a brother, Arthur Tyner of Patrick; 22 grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Margaret Adams Gainey, 76, were held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gainey died Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Hartsville hospital. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late John and Edith Hoffman Adams. She was married
to the late Cecil Gainey. Mrs. Gainey was a homemaker and enjoyed doing for others.
Surviving are two sons, Tony Gainey of Santee and Mike Gainey of Darlington; three daughters, Linda G. Norwood of Darlington, Sharon G. Haynie of Santee and Tonya Cassidy of Hartsville; six grandchildren and two great–grandchildren; four sisters, Betty A. Elkins of Hartsville, Evelyn A. Gandy, Bobbie A. Iseman and Jo Saxton, all of Darlington.
Mrs. Gainey was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Aldridge and Johnnie Mae Jordan.

Funeral services for Ronnie Watford, 55, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Jan. 10, 2003, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Losloski officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Florence National cemetery.
Mr. Watford died Jan. 7. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Mamie Smith Watford and the late James Lee Watford. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a member of the DAV.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Gilbert Watford of Hartsville; his mother, of Hartsville; a son, Ronald Lee Watford Jr.; a daughter, Angelia Denise Tiller, both of Hartsville; three brothers, Allen and Ricky Watford of Hartsville and James Watford of Patrick; a sister, Wanda Griggs of Hartsville and a grandchild, Victoria Tiller, also of Hartsville.

LAMAR — Funeral services for Theo Bernard Woodham were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at John Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Woodham died Saturday, Jan. 4, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Monroe and Corine Rivers Woodham. He was educated in the public schools and worked several jobs, including Hartsville Manufacturing, Roller Bearing and servicing lawns. Mr. Woodham was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church since the age of 12. He was married
to Rudell McFadden.
Mr. Woodham is survived by a daughter, Shavon Smith of Darlington; two sons, Tracey (Caroline) Woodham of El Paso, Texas, and Norris Woodham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Margaret Woodham and Gladys Woodham, both of Lamar; three brothers, Monroe (Daisy) Woodham of Richmond, Va, Roosevelt (Edna) Woodham of Lamar and William (Naomi) Woodham of Hartsville; two aunts, Lula Diggs of Philadelphia, Pa., and Ruby Rivers of Richmond, Va.; and a sister–in–law, Gracie McFadden of Hartsville.

Mrs. Davis, widow of Alfred Perry Davis, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Ben Lucas and Emma Lottie McInville Sparrow. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, the Byerly Hospital Auxiliary, and worked at Wal–Mart of Surfside and Hartsville.
Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Randy A. and Dawn Davis and Johnny L. and Melinda Davis, all of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Linda Davis and Tommy DeWitt and Patti and David Johnson, all of Hartsville; sisters, Edna S. Lambert of Hartsville, Nina J. Whitt; grandchildren, Al Dean Davis of Florence, Billy DeWitt, Brandi Hayden, Seth Kidd, Kera, Ryann, and Luke Davis, all of Hartsville; great–grandchildren, Storm Hayden and Cody Kidd, both of Hartsville.

LAMAR — Funeral services for Susanna Alford Richards, formerly of Lamar, were held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Barbara J. Hines Memorial Chapel, with burial in Emmanuel Community Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc., of Lamar.
Mrs. Richards died Friday, Jan. 3, in New York after an illness. She was born in Lamar to the late Henry and Elease Alford. At an early age she joined the Emmanuel Community Church in Lamar. When she later moved to Cambria Heights, N.Y., she joined St. Joseph's Episcopal Church, where she was an active member until her death. She graduated from Spaulding High School in Lamar and continued her education at Benedict College in Columbia. After graduating from college in 1964, she taught high school in Hartsville. Then she moved to Uniondale, N.Y. and worked as a social worker for the New York City Bureau of Child Welfare, where she served until retiring in 2000. Susanna was married
to John Richards and this union has one daughter.
Survivors are a daughter, Yolanda R. Richards of Jamaica Estates, N.Y.; five sisters, Mary Ellen Brown of New York, N.Y., Thelma Burris of Lamar, Creola James of Queens Village, N.Y., Nora Green of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Annie Marshall of Columbia; one brother, Henry Alford Jr. of Cambria Heights, N.Y.; four step–children, Vladimir Beaufils of Harrisburg, Pa., Tamara Fry of Boca Raton, Fla., Igor Beaufils of Maumee, Ohio, and Sabrina Erskine of Bolingbrook, Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services for Joseph Bright were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, in Mt. Calvary AME Church with burial in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Bright died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Providence Hospital after an illness. He was born to Joseph and Sara Ford Bright Sr. He was educated in the public schools. He was married
to Fannie Mae Virgil Bright and was a member of Mt. Calvary AME Church. He served as president of the Usher Board, a member of Trustee Board, Men's Chorus and Sons of Allen, Sunday school teacher and Lay Organization. Mr. Bright worked as a self–employed brick mason (Bright Construction) . A daughter, Victoria Bright, predeceased him.
Survivors are two daughters, Linda Bright of Hartsville and Deborah Austin of Bishopville; three sons, Carl Bright and David (Annette) Bright of Hartsville and Joseph Bright III of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Proctor Bright of Ridgeland; a sister, Veronica Wilson of Hartsville; and four grandchildren.

LAMAR — Funeral services for George McQuillar, 66, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Cypress United Apostolic Church cemetery, Lamar, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. McQuillar died Thursday, Jan. 9, in Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y., after an illness. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late Eddie and Minnie Mashoe McQuillar. He received his education in Lee County public schools.
