DARLINGTON — Funeral services for John Edward Yochum Jr., 43, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 29, 2003, at the St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Hartsville, conducted by the Rev. Ted Duvall. Burial will follow in the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Yochum died Monday, Jan. 27, in a Darlington hospital after an illness. He was born in Florence County, a son of the late John and Anne Yochum.
Survivors include three sisters, Patsy (Nyle) Martin of Mt. Pleasant, Guerry M. Yochum of North Charleston, and Martha (Le) Flowers of Darlington; a step–mother, Nell L. Yochum of Florence; three nephews, Hampton and Will Martin and Jordan Flowers; and one niece, Julia Flowers.
Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice, 555 East Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
SARAH S. NASON
BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Sarah Skipper Nason, 86, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbee Parsons will officiating. Burial was in the St. Matthews cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nason, widow of Willie Nason, died Thursday, Jan. 23. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Henry and Inez Matuse Skipper. She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and the Joy Club.
Surviving are two sisters, Nancy Watford of Lamar and Maggie Hyatt of Camden; and several nieces and nephews.
LOUISE WATSON
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Louise Bryant Watson, 86, were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Watson died Thursday, Jan. 23. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Junious and Rosa Lee James Bryant. She was married
for 54 years to the late Daniel P. Watson and very attentive to her family. She retired from Dixie Cup and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are two sons, Charles E. (Elaine) Watson of North Myrtle Beach and William Dan Watson of Florence; two daughters, Betty W. Raines of Florence and Kathryn W. (Marvin) Shirley of Bishopville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; and one brother, Gary Bryant, all of Hartsville.
GLORIA D. WATSON
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Gloria Dale Watson, 54, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, in the Kistler Chapel of Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Allen Lynch with burial following in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Watson died Friday, Jan. 24, after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Marion Liston Broach and Esther Baker Munn. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her grandchildren and her friends. Ms. Watson was a homemaker.
Survivors include her mother of Darlington; one son, Jeffery Kipp Harper of Darlington; three sisters, Linda Hutchinson, Helen (Jerry) Andrews and Nancy (Larry) Andrews, all of Florence; one step–brother, Ronnie Broach of Myrtle Beach; and four grandchildren.
DARREN WARREN
ROCK HILL — Funeral services for King Darren Warren, 34, formerly of Hartsville, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Napier officiating. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mr. Warren died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Ann King Warren Arrowood and the late William David Warren Jr. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, and worked at Carausar of Fort Mill for 13 years where he was a draftsman. He attended York Technical College and graduated with a degree in engineering.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Warren of Rock Hill; mother of Hartsville; sister and brother–in–law, Tamara W. and Philip Crowley of Charleston; and brother, W. David Warren III of Hartsville.
MARCIA TREDWAY
Funeral services for Marcia Tredway, 25, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Griggs officiating.
Mrs. Tredway died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003. Born in West Virginia, she was a daughter of Harry Tredway and Brenda Blocker Pack.
Surviving are her father of Wellsburg, W.V.; mother of Hartsville; sister, Brenda Michelle Tredway of Weirton, W.V.; half–brother, Billy Tredway of West Virginia; and half–sister, Nicki Tredway of West Virginia.
ROY MOORE
COLUMBIA — Funeral services for Roy James Moore, 60, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Mitchell officiating with burial in Union United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Moore died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late James Drew and Bessie McCoy Moore. He was of the Methodist faith and was retired from Harsco Track Technologies and engaged in real estate.
Surviving are his son, Robert J. Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Karen D. Moore of Columbia; and sister, Carolyn M. Hall of Charlotte, N.C.
DUB HOUCK
Funeral services for Dub Houck, 73, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Amerson and Bishop Heber Ellison officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery.
Mr Houck died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Joseph Asbury and Jennie Alexander Houck. He was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church and Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173. He retired from Sonoco Products Company after 41 years and was a member of The Old Timers Club. He also retired from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) after 31 years of service. He was a avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam Edwards Houck of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Sherry H. and Terry Johnson, Regina H. and Calvin Johnson, all of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Doris H. and Charlie Suggs of Alpharetta, Ga., Dee Sherrill of Hartsville; grandchildren, Danielle Johnson, Shannon Johnson and Dana Johnson; and special friends, Carroll Walters and Tommy Shumate. He was predeceased by a son, Rickey Houck.
Memorials may be made to The Red Fox Booster Club or Emmanuel Baptist School Crusader Booster Club.
WILLIAM McLEOD
Funeral services for William James Bill McLeod will be held at 3 p.m. today, Feb. 7, 2003, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with pastor Michael Miller officiating. Burial will be in The Church Beyond Man Knowledge cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. McLeod died Monday, Feb. 3, after a brief illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Elijah and Mary Lucky McLeod. He was educated in the public schools. Mr. McLeod worked with Sansbury Plumbing until his death. He was married
to Mary Jo Scott McLeod.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Mary Jo McLeod of Hartsville, are two daughters, Redenia (Reggie) Dudley and Joanna (Donell) Hickmon; a son, Lee Curtis Mack, all of Hartsville; a step–son, Joseph (Emma) Scott; a special friend, Ernestine Scott; three grandchildren; six step–grandchildren; and one step–great–grandson.
ROBIN D. POOLER
Funeral services for Robin D. Pooler, 28, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. J.D. Blue officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Miss Pooler died Sunday, Feb. 2. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Linda Lighty and Robert Harriet. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County, graduating from Hartsville High School class of 1992. She was a straight A student, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class. After graduation she was awarded an academic scholarship to Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., where she made the Dean's List during her first semester. She later moved to Spartanburg, where she worked in accounts receivable at a local chain store operation. She was a member of Household of Faith Holiness Church, where in her early teaching she participated in many of the church activities, most notably the Juniorette Choir and the Holiness Young People Union.
Survivors are her parents, her mother Linda Pooler and her father, Robert Harriet, both of Hartsville; step–father, William Pompey of Hartsville; four brothers, Anthony Lighty, Derek Pooler, Phillip Pooler and Jason Pooler, all of Hartsville; a host of aunts and uncles, Novella Lighty, Goldie Bassly, Celestine Allen, Barbara Robinson, Jesse Struggles, Patricia (Sidney) Joey, Blonde Seals, Daisy (Scotty) Jackson, Betty Samuel, Gussie (Bloss) Murphy, Marvel Clyburn, Janie Harriet, Dorothy Harriet, Phyllis Harriet, Earline (James) McNeil, Joyce Byrd, Luvenia Colvin, Prof. Albert (Grace) Lighty, and James (Rosalyn) Harriet.
ELVIRA KELLY WARREN
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Elvira Kelly Warren will be held at 12 noon today, Feb. 7, 2003, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamey O. Graham, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Florence National cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Warren died Monday, Feb. 3, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Boyd and Armenta Poole Kelly. She was the widow of Eugene Warren. She was a graduate of Wilson High School and continued her education at Benedict College in Columbia where she received a B.S. degree in science. Later she attended Columbia University in New York City, Francis Marion College, and received her master of education degree from the University of South Carolina in 1974. At an early age, she joined Savannah Grove Baptist Church. After marriage, she joined Friendship Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Sorosis Guild, Missionary Society, deaconess, past superintendent of the Sunday school, Sunday school teacher and past superintendent of Vacation Bible School. She was a public school teacher in Florence and Darlington Counties for 35 years and retired in 1984. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Florence Alumnae Chapter, the Les Amie Femmes Club, Darlington County Retired Educators No. 2, the N.A.A.C.P. and the National Council of Negro Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda (Winfred) Herrington of Darlington; two grandchildren, Maurice Herrington and Shayla Herrington, both of Rock Hill; adopted grandson, Robert Brockington of Columbia; godson, Terry (Martha) Scott; one sister, Mrs. Harriet K. Waynes of Jamaica, N.Y.; two sisters–in–law, Mrs. Cleo (John, deceased) Kelly and Mrs. Rachel W. Garroden of New York; and a host of nieces and nephews.
GRACE W. GANDY
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Grace W.Gandy, 77, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Black Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Danny Winburn and Roger Martin. Burial followed in Black Creek cemetery, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gandy died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, after an illness. She was born in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late Elijah and Maybelle Gainey Warren. She was married
to the late Harvey Gandy, who preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Gandy was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church and the Nettie Durant Bible Class. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include two sons, Milton Coleman Gandy and Elijah Henry Gandy, both of Darlington; one brother, Loreene Warren of Dovesville; two sisters, Geraldine Barefoot of Hartsville; and Christine Warren of Darlington; a special nephew, James Warren of Dovesville; and 24 nieces and nephews.

JOSEPH BEASLEY
Graveside services for Joseph Wilie Beasley, 77, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery. The Revs. Jim Beck and Michael Blake will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Beasley died Sunday, Feb. 9. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Pelzer and Ada Grantham Beasley.
Surviving are his sister, Elzine Layton of Bishopville; several nephews and nieces; and special friend, Edd Stephens of Winterhaven, Fla. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Beasley, John Crayon Beasley, and Pelzer Beasley, and his sisters, Odine Harrell and Maydeen Moore.
SHELTON GAINEY
Funeral services for James Shelton Gainey, 51, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Boswell officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Gainey died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Myrtle Warr Gainey and the late Leroy Gainey. He worked at Sonoco Products Company for 19 years in the carpenter shop. He was a loving and dedicated father to his family.
Surviving are his wife, Tonnie Gainey of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Chad and Angie Gainey of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Tanya Gainey of Hartsville, Shellie and Tee Johnson of Hartsville; mother of Hartsville; sister, Joyce Smith of Hartsville; brothers, Raymond Gainey and Tracy Gainey, both of Hartsville; grandchildren, Emily Nicole Gainey and Randa Leigh–Anne Gainey of Hartsville.
