Memorial services for Donna Stanton Saleeby, 49, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Ted Duvall officiating and with private burial directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Thad E. Saleeby Scholarship Fund, The University of South Carolina, 208 Osborne Building, Columbia, SC 29208.
Mrs. Saleeby, wife of Edward E. Saleeby Jr., died Saturday, March 1, 2003. Born in Amarillo, Texas, she was a daughter of Georgia King Stanton and the late Jack Lyon Stanton. Mrs. Saleeby was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. She graduated from Florence–Darlington Technical College with a degree in nursing and was a registered nurse. She received degrees in art and education from Coker College, taught art at Trinity Collegiate School, and was a member of the Black Creek Arts Council. She was recognized by Savannah College of Art and Design for her art curriculum as a guide for other teachers. She was a dedicated art teacher who loved to share the joy of art with others, especially children.
Surviving are her husband, Edward E. Saleeby Jr. of Hartsville; sons, Edward E. Saleeby III, Nathaniel Stanton Saleeby, Caleb Cleveland McLaurin Saleeby, all of Hartsville; mother, of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Jean and David Adams of Holt, Mich., Carol Stanton of Whitmore Lake, Mich.; brother and sister–in–law, Jack L. and Tracy Stanton of Florence. Her sister, Susan Stanton, preceded her in death.
CAROLYN DUNN
LAMAR — Graveside funeral services for Carolyn Elizabeth Dunn, 72, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Lamar cemetery, conducted by Rev. Melvin Flail and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Miss Dunn died Saturday, March 1, in a Darlington nursing home. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Harlee W. and Emmie Plummer Dunn. She lived in Columbia most of her life and was in the civil service at Fort Jackson. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Elaine D. Smith of Lamar; a nephew, Jack H. Smith of Lamar; and a niece, Pamela T. Usher of Hartsville; also a great–niece and three great–nephews.

LOUISE J. HORNE
Graveside services for Louise J. Horne, 77, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Magnolia cemetery with the Rev. Jim Beck officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Liberty Hill Baptist Church, 1018 N. Rolling Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Horne, widow of J. W. Horne, died Thursday, Feb. 27. She was a daughter of the late Albert Herbert and Laura Smith Jacobs. She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons and daughter–in–law, Rock Horne of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mike and Denna Horne of Hartsville, Larry Mozingo of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, James Allen Horne Jr., Jay Michael Horne, Matthew Scott Horne, Kristen Amelia Horne, Lisa Horne, Lana Lance; and one great–grandchild. She was predeceased by her step–mother, Beaufort Catoe Jacobs.
HUGH S. LANE JR.
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Hugh S. Lane Jr., 84, will be held at 11 a.m. this morning, March 5, 2003, in the Indian Branch United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Zimmerman. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Lane was born in Florence County. He was the son of the late Hugh Stephen Lane Sr. and Mary Jane Keels Lane. He was a carpenter by trade having retired from Wise Construction. He was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Lane served in the U.S. Army Infantry as a rifleman in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Helga Gisela Lane of the home; three sons, Steve Lane of Enterprise, Ala, Terry Lane of Glendale, Ariz., and Stan Lane of Darlington; three daughters, Helga Buck of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda Strasburger of Columbia and Lisa Lane of Darlington; three brothers, Floyd L. Lane of Spartanburg, Rufus G. Lane of Milford, Del., and Manuel Lane of Pocohontas, Ark.; three sisters, Beatrice Reynolds of Asheville, N.C., Alma Jean Wilson of Lynchburg, and Virginia Gandy of Gable, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and one great–grandchild.
Mr. Lane was predeceased by one daughter, Margot Lane.

ERNEST TRUETTE
Funeral services for Ernest Edward Truette, 83, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home with a private burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Truette was born in Oates, a son of the late Whitman Dawson and Nannie Lloyd Truett. He resided many years in Charlotte, N.C., and later in Harrisburg, N.C., before moving to North Myrtle Beach. He was a U.S. Navy veteran for four years prior to World War II and served an additional four years in the U.S. Army during World War II in the North Atlantic Campaign. He retired from Cunningham Wholesale Company in Charlotte, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Master Mason and a noble brother of the Oasis Shrine Temple. He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV. He was also a member and deacon of Pitts Baptist Church, Harrisburg, N.C.
Surviving are his sons and daughter–in–law, Benny Edward Eddie and Joyce Truette of North Myrtle Beach, Danny Dan Michael and Linda Truette of Charlotte, N.C., Ernest Edward Earl Truette Jr. of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Erik Michael Truette, Christopher Karl Truette, Elizabeth Dawn Truette, Mary Katherine Truette, Madeline–Elain Maddie Lucille Truette; and great–granddaughters, Sydney Austin Greene and Olivia Elizabeth Grund. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Lucille Cille Shaw Truette.
WILLIE N. HAWKINS
Funeral services for Willie Nelson Hawkins, 75, will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2003, at Ousleydale Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Hawkins died Friday, Feb. 28, in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla. He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Darlington County, a son of the late Willie and Mamie Smith Hawkins. He attended public school in Chesterfield and Darlington County. He worked for Service Construction Company. He attended First Baptist on 21st North West in Miami, Fla.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Hawkins of Hartsville; four sisters, Margree Wright, Bernetha Black and Alma Hawkins, all of Washington, D.C., Evelyn Marine of Sufford, Va.; four brothers, Eugene (Tressie) Hawkins of Washington, D.C., James (Odessa) Hawkins of Columbia, Lee Earnest (Evama) Hawkins and Roy Lester (Bessie) Hawkins, both of Hartsville; two aunts of Queens, N.Y.; a special friend, Flora Graham of Miami, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
WADE E. PERDUE
Funeral services for Wade E. Perdue, 77, will be held at 3 p.m. at Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, March 5, from 6 to 8.
Mr. Perdue died Tuesday, March 4, at his home. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late John Ervin and Addie Mae Tolson Perdue. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Loretta McLain Perdue of the home; two sons, Randy (Tracy) Perdue and David Perdue, all of Hartsville; one sister, Pearl Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

W. GENE KNOWLES
Graveside services for William Eugene Knowles, 54, will be held at 1p.m. today, Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Gardner will officiate with burial directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends today following the service.
Mr. Knowles died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Born in Pottstown, Pa., he was a son of the late David Wilson and Dorothy Winnie Knowles. He retired from Stanley Tools.
Surviving are his son, Kevin W. Diggs of Morven, N.C.; daughters, Gina Knowles of Hartsville, Dorothy Machelle Knowles of Garden City; sister, Dorothy Ann Jaffer of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and grandchild, Patience Knowles of Hartsville.

Funeral services for Barbara Sue Howle Sock, 48, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at New Providence Baptist Church. The Revs. Bill Stanley and Joseph Presnell will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sock died Saturday, March 1, 2003. Born in Baltimore, Md., she was a daughter of Mildred Tyner Howle and the late William Geter Howle. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Kelly Lyn Levisen of Hartsville, Shannon Marie Wilder of Hamstead, Md., Bonnie Marie Gainey of Cheraw; mother of Hartsville; brothers, John Dale Howle of Dundalk, Md., Charles Howle of Dundalk, Md., William Geter Howle Jr. of Hartsville, Douglass Howle of Dundalk, Md., David Paul Howle of Hartsville; grandchildren, Matthew Joshua Levisen, Holly Gainey, Amber Gainey, Hailey Gainey, Christian Wilder, Kody Wilder.
MACK WEATHERFORD
Graveside services for Mack D. Weatherford, 73, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Magnolia cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Gary Colbach and the Rev. John Hamilton officiating, and with burial directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mr. Weatherford died Sunday, March 2, 2003. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Wilson and Marie Bailey Weatherford. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Living Hope Sunday School Class, and the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are his wife, Estelle Weatherford of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Effie and Furman Smith of Hartsville, Pat Buffkin of Florence; step–son and step–daughter–in–law, Jimmy and Lynett Griffin of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.
TOM YOUNG
Funeral services for Walter Thomas Tom Young Jr., 91, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Cline officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.
Mr. Young died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003. Born in Rockingham, N.C., he was a son of the late Walter Thomas and Maude Robbins Young. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 50 years of service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church since 1947 and had served as a deacon, usher, Sunday school teacher and homebound visitor. Everyone who knew Tom will remember him for his strong faith in God, his honesty and his belief in always being the best you can be.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Louise Watkins Young of Hartsville; sons and daughters–in–law, Tommy and Frieda Young of Magnolia, Miss., Johnny and Sharon Young of Lyman; daughter and son–in–law, Kay and Jim Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren and spouses, Kim and Daryl Chopin, Vanessa and Beau Clark, Stephen and Julie Hoffman; great–grandchildren, Nathan Chopin, August Chopin, and Will Clark.

Andre Addison Jr., the infant son of Conisa Carro–way and Andrew Addison Sr., died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Charleston Medical University Hospital. Arrange–ments will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
SPEEDY CHAPMAN
Graveside services for William Byerly Speedy Chapman, 70, will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 7, 2003, in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Griggs officiating.
Mr. Chapman died Wednesday, March 5. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late William Gadi and Madge Griggs Chapman. He was a retired master sergeant in the S.C. National Guard with 26 years of service and was also a member of the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his brother–in–law, Bill Johnson of Hartsville; and nephews, Kyle Stephens Johnson and William R. Johnson, both of Hartsville.
HELEN C. RICHARDSON
SUMMERVILLE — A memorial service for Helen Copenhaver Richardson, 90, was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in the Presbyterian Home Chapel, Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, directed by James A. Dyal Funeral Home of Summerville.
Mrs. Richardson, widow of James M. Richardson, died Friday in a Charleston hospital. She was born Jan. 22, 1913, in Smyth County, Va. She had resided at the Presbyterian Home of Summerville for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church and an active volunteer at Trident Medical Center.
Surviving are a step–daughter, Hannah R. Kitchen of Scotchland Neck, N.C.; sister, Mildred C. Patterson of Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

RONALD E. MOODY
LAMAR — Funeral services for Ronald Ellison Moody, 43, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar with interment following in Lamar cemetery.
Mr. Moody died Monday, March 3, from injuries suffered in an accident. He was born in Florence County, a son of Ellison Moody and Clevie Amerson Cole. He was a construction worker employed with Palmetto Bridge Company.
Surviving are his father, Ellison (Judy) Moody of Timmonsville; his mother, Clevie Amerson (Henry) Cole of South Boston, Va.; children, Kristen Moody Wright of Columbia and Ronald Ellison Moody Jr. of Cassatt; a grandson, John Henry Wright V, of Columbia; a brother, David Wayne Moody of Summerville; a sister, Shelia Moody–Sizemore of Darlington; maternal grandmother, Lucille Amerson of Lamar; a very special friend, Elaine Hoffmire of Summerville; half–sister, Kelly Moody of Timmonsville; step–brothers, Billy (Jean) Gerald of Florence, Mark Cole of South Boston, Va., Chris Cole of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.; step–sisters, Dana (Glenn) Smith of Florence, Debra Cole Haley of Charlotte, N.C., Kimberly Sweitzer of Timmonsville and Jaime Sweitzer of Jackson, Tenn.; six nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gary Amerson, and paternal grandparents, Mattie DeWitt Moody Jordan, Burch Jordan and Russell Moody.
