DARLINGTON — Rebecca Chapen Watson, infant daughter of Charles and Penny Odom Watson, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003. A private funeral service will be held at a later date directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Rebecca is survived by her parents of the home; a brother, Trey, also of the home; maternal grandparents, Bill and Gail Odom of Darlington; paternal grandparents, Charles and Elaine Watson of North Myrtle Beach and Barbara Rosenfield of Darlington.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Janice Pope Odom.

MYRTLE A. BOAN
ROCK HILL — Funeral services for Myrtle Agnes Hall Boan, 74, were held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Faith Assembly of God with the Revs. Tim Boan, Larry Boan and Mery Horst officiating, with a private burial.
Mrs. Boan, widow of Larry Boan, died Tuesday, April 8. She was the daughter of the late John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Hall. She attended Faith Assembly of God and was a volunteer for Pathways. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Boan is survived by six sons, Jerry Boan, Terry Boan, Johnny Boan, the Rev. Tim Boan, all of Rock Hill, the Rev. Larry Boan of Vero Beach, Fla., and Phillip Helton of Fort Mill.; two daughters, Linda Barfield of York and Diane Ruckart of Rock Hill; three brothers, Roger Hall, Charles Hall and Gerald Hall, all of Hartsville; three sisters, Peggy Sellars of Chesterfield, Carolyn Ladd and Annette Burkett, both of Hartsville; 18 grandchildren; and four great–grandchildren.

Funeral services for Katherine Brown Blasingame, 72, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at West Hartsville Baptist Church with the Revs. Scott Brown and Mark Bowers officiating. Burial followed in Westview Memorial Park cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Mrs. Blasingame, widow of Ramon Blasingame, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Eva Mathis Brown. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and she played the piano for her friends at Morningside.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Angie and Rusty Connelly of Hartsville; sisters, Estelle Weatherford of Hartsville, Eula Mae Montgomery of Bishopville; brother and sister–in–law, Howard and Bobby Brown of Hartsville; and grandchildren, Chase Connelly and Davis Connelly.

DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Josephine Forrest Pond, 86, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pond died Tuesday, April 8, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Saluda County, a daughter of the late Guy E. and Leta Carson Forrest. She was married
to the late Ralph Benjamin Pond Jr. She was a housewife and member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lynn Pond of Myrtle Beach and Ann Pond (Reid) Cox of Laurens; one son, Ralph Benjamin (Ann) Pond III of Myrtle Beach; six grandchildren, Carson Copeland Chitty, John Edwin Copeland Jr., Elizabeth Reid Cox, Mary Carson Cox, Emily Forrest Pond, and Ralph Benjamin Pond IV; two great–grandchildren, Carolyn Copeland Potter and Victoria Rose Chitty; a sister, Rae Forrest Kibler of Darlington; two brothers, Henry M. Forrest of Thibodeaux, La., and Rhodes Forrest of Murrells Inlet.
Mrs. Pond was preceded in death by a brother, Guy E. Forrest.

BARBARA J. TARLTON
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Barbara Jean Tarlton, formerly Bobbie Jean Jordan, 66, died March 13, 2003, at Alaska Regional Hospital of heart failure. Arrangements were by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary and Crematory.
She was born May 20, 1936, in Darlington County, and had lived in Anchorage since 1981. A retired nanny, she enjoyed crafts and keeping in touch with the children.
Ms. Tarlton is survived by two daughters, Deborah Sourdiff of Hartsville and Norma Jones of Anchorage; two sons, Darrell O'Neal of Laconia, Ind. and Alan O'Neal of Hartsville; five grandchildren, Russell Sourdiff, Tanika Jones, Prejonna Jones, Darrell O'Neal II and Jessica O'Neal; and seven great–grandchildren.
WILHELMENA GASKINS
Funeral services for Wilhelmena Gaskins, 72, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, April 11, 2003, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Burial will be in Wesley Temple Holiness Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gaskins died Sunday, April 6, in a Columbia Care Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late C. W. and Frances Coe Williams. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and the Missionary Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary F. Jones of Hartsville and Wilhelmena McMillon of North Cape May, N.J.; a son, Lennia Gaskins of Passaic, N.J.; five sisters, Mildred Frierson of Paterson, N.J., Annie Lee Needham and Lucinda Addison, both of Hartsville, Sylvia Belton of Anderson, and Maybell Law of Darlington; grandchildren, great–grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Funeral services for Laurie Ralph Watford, 91, were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Blair Road United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ted Troutman officiating. Burial was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Magnolia cemetery in Hartsville, directed by Heritage Funeral Home of Indian Trail, N.C.
Mr. Watford died Wednesday, April 2, at Presbyterian Wesley Care Center. He was born Sept. 12, 1911, in South Carolina to Lucas and Vera Watford. He retired from American Crankshaft.
His survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Minnie Watford of Charlotte, N.C.; his daughter, Amanda Watford (Rusty) Carpenter of Charlotte; his son, the Rev. Jim (Janet) Watford of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandsons, Jeff and Jonathan Carpenter and Christopher Watford; his brother, Dan Watford of Hartsville; three sisters, Doris Lister of Hartsville, Connie Ellis of Mullins, and Sis Hoffmeyer of Dalton, Ga.
The family ask that memorials be sent to Blair Road United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 9135 Blair Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
AYANNA PETERSON
Graveside services for Ayanna N. Peterson, infant daughter of Alvin and Nekol Bell Peterson, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 9, 2003, in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Ayanna died on Wednesday, April 2, in an Annapolis, Md., hospital.
Survivors are her parents of Maryland; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Peterson of Darlington, and maternal grandparent, attorney Penny Nicholson of Hartsville.

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Edward Allen Capers Sr., 87, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at First Baptist Church with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Capers died at his home on Friday, April 4, after an extended illness. He was born in Inman, S.C., on June 18, 1915, a son of the late Edward Allen and Eula Drummond Capers. He graduated from Inman High School in 1932, attended Wofford College for one year, then enrolled at the Medical University School of Pharmacy from which he graduated with a registered pharmacy degree in 1936. Mr. Capers then came to Darlington where he was associated with Central Drug Store as a pharmacist and owner for 62 years.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army for four months with the 364th Medical Battalion, attached to the Amphibious 4th Engineer Special Brigade. He participated in action in New Guinea and the Phillipines and later served with the Occupation Army in Japan. He was honorably discharged from the military forces in 1946 and returned to Darlington and to Central Drug Store.
Mr. Capers was an active member of the First Baptist Church for more than 60 years, having served as its treasurer, an intermediate Sunday school teacher, an adult assistant teacher, a deacon at numerous times and as a trustee. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, a 50 years plus member of the American Legion and a charter member of the Men's Dance Club.
Being so dedicated to his pharmacy profession, Mr. Capers was an active member of the Pee Dee Pharmaceutical Association, a life member of the SC Pharmaceutical Association, and a long–time member of the National Association of Community Pharmacists.
As an avid reader of history and a lover of nature, Mr. Capers especially enjoyed membership in the Darlington County Historical Society, the South Carolina Historical Society, the South Caroliniana Society, Friends of Brookgreen, the Nature Conservancy and St. David's Society.
In 1986, the South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association presented Mr. Capers with the Bowl of Hygia Award, given annually to a pharmacist for his long dedicated service to his community and in numerous other areas.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Josephine Philson Capers of Darlington; son and daughter–in–law Allen (Greta) Capers Jr. also of Darlington; daughter and son–in–law, Adelaide Capers (Jim) Johnson of Greenville; grandchildren, Van and Ann Ward, James Edward Johnson Jr., Jennie Capers Johnson and Elizabeth S. Capers; great–grandchildren, Jennifer and Zachary Ward; also special care–givers, Cathy Sutton and Rose Davis.
Mr. Capers was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, William and Ralph Capers.

Withelmena Gaskins, 71, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in a Columbia hospital after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 4732 Gilbert Road, Hartsville.
JOHN A. CROWLEY
Funeral services for John A. Crowley, 74, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Miller–Rivers Caulder Funeral Home Chapel in Chesterfield with interment in Patrick cemetery.
Mr. Crowley died Thursday, April 3, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Fencless Mormon and Minnie Boan Crowley. He was a retired truck driver and was preceded in death by two brothers, Hildreth Crowley and Jesse Lee Crowley.
Survivors include a son, John David (Kim) Crowley of Mocksville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jason Crowley, Casey Crowley and Joshua Crowley; two brothers, Kenneth T. Crowley of Ladson, S.C., and J.C. Crowley of Camden; three sisters, Evelyn C. McLain of Patrick, Janie C. Young of Camden and Cornelia C. Crenshaw of Hartsville.
ELIZABETH W. DOVE
DARLINGTON — A memorial service for Elizabeth Winters Dove, 96, was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2003, in the chapel of the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, conducted by her good friend Dr. Olin Whitener and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dove died Tuesday, April 2, in a Florence hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1906 in Wilmington, N.C., to William Carey and Sally Walker Winters. Growing up in Rocky Mount, N.C., she received her education in schools there. She was employed as a telephone operator and met Alexander Buck Dove, and they were married
in Nov. 1924, sharing 65 years together.
In Washington, D.C., they raised two sons, Ben Dove Jr. and Daniel Dove. Though her first concern was her home and family, during World War II she worked for the National Geographic Society. A devoted Christian since her youth, she became a skilled educator and was delighted to teach little children. At 80, she was still active in the happy challenge of Vacation Bible School at Darlington Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Dove was a skilled and artistic seamstress, creating many of her own clothes as well as her granddaughters and their dolls. She loved flowers which was evident in the beautifully landscaped yards which surround her home — first in Washington, D.C., and then in Darlington.
Survivors are her sons and their families, Ben (Barbara) Dove of Mandan, N.D., and children, Benjamin IV (Donna) , Rebecca (Peter) Sieling and Daniel (Tracy) Dove; son, Daniel Dove of Beltsville, Md., and children, Jennifer Ledman, Pete Dove, Patty Dove, Guy Robert Dove and Anita (Wayne) Clemmer; and nine great–grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two brothers, William Buddy Winters and Durwood Winters; her daughter–in–law, Joan Dove, beloved aunts and uncles; two very special cousins, Hugh and Minna Brunson.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, 2350 W. Lucas Street, Florence, SC 29501.
KELLIE E. HUNTLEY
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Kellie Elizabeth Miller Huntley, 28, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2003, in the chapel of Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home with burial following in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Huntley died Thursday, April 3. She was born in Florence County a daughter of Dr. Larry M. and Kay Sinclair Miller Sr. She worked for Saturn of Florence and attended the Crossway Church in Florence.
Survivors include her husband, Wilson D. Huntley III of Darlington; one son, Liston Sinclair Miller Huntley of Darlington; her parents of Florence; one brother, Sonny Miller of Florence; father–in–law, Wilson D. (Buddy) Huntley of Darlington; one sister–in–law, Heather (Jay) Allen of Greenville, and a special friend, her aunt, Pat Miller of Florence.
