DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Robert McCoy Sr., 57, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Tabernacle Holiness Church with Bishop C. L. Johnson, pastor, and Bishop Tommie Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Gandy cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. McCoy died Tuesday, April 1, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Amanda Graham McCoy and the late Clarence McCoy Sr. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools, graduating from Rosenwald High School, Society Hill. For a time he lived in Atlanta, Ga., but he spent most of his time in Darlington County where he worked various jobs. His last employment was with Good Construction Company.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Amanda McCoy Miles of the home; his wife, Delie Mack McCoy of Atlanta, Ga.; three children, Robert McCoy Jr., Juanita McCoy and Roberta McCoy, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Viola McCoy of Terrytown, N.Y.; three step–sisters, Rosa Lee Small of Bennettsville, Calperta Wise and Willie Mae Small, both of Winston–Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Clarence (Teresa) McCoy Jr. and John L. McCoy, both of Darlington; four grandchildren, a special niece, Dianne McCoy (Jimmy) Jackson of Darlington; several other nieces and nephews.
YEVONNE D. ODOM
DARLINGTON — Yevonne Dianne Odom, 41, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in a Florence hospital after an illness. Ms. Odom was born in Richmond, Va., a daughter of Elaine Louise Slade Hatcher and the late Bennie R. Hatcher.
Survivors include her mother of Darlington; one daughter, Pamila Fuller of Darlington; one brother, Ben Hatcher Jr.; one sister, Laurel Hatcher of Kentucky, and her grandmother, Delilah Gray of Wallace.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
JAMES COVINGTON
LYDIA — Funeral services for James Dick Tracy Covington Jr. will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Lee County, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Covington died on Sunday, April 6 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late James Sr. and Mattie Lou Huggins Covington. He was educated in the public schools and worked for Jerry Gardner Roofing.
Survivors are his son, Jimmy Covington of New York, N.Y.; five sisters, Bell (William) Beasley of Darlington, Richard Dean Jennings of Hartsville, Louise Slater, Mattie McFadden and Carolyn (George) Jackson, all of Lydia; seven brothers, Jessie (Barbara) Covington, Gerald Covington, Billy Covington and Jerry Covington, all of Lydia, Tommy (Faye) Covington of Durham, N.C., Charles Cleveland Covington of Raleigh, N.C., and Jimmy Covington of Darlington.
WILLIAM TIMMONS
NEWBERRY — A graveside service for William L. Timmons, 62, was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Newberry Memorial Gardens, directed by Whitaker Funeral Home.
Mr. Timmons died Saturday, April 5, in Newberry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Darlington and was the son of the late Julius E. and Nettie Edward Timmons.
Surviving are his wife, Debra Ann H. Timmons of the home; a daughter, Angela Pitts of Chapin; two sisters, Lucille Lunn and Libby Gainey, both of Bishopville; four brothers, G. F. Timmons of Hartsville, J. E. Timmons of Florence, Tommy Timmons of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and Harry Timmons of Tega Cay.
JAMES H. BRITT
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for James Jimmy Henry Britt, 73, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mr. Britt died Friday, April 4, at his residence. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Henry Hye and Alene Segars Britt. He was a charter member of the Darlington Police Auxiliary where he once served as captain and a member of the W.F.W. Mr. Britt worked part–time for Clanton's and was an avid Gamecock fan. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Men's Club.
Surviving are his wife, Jerrie Britt of Darlington; one son, Randy (Nancy Dunn) Britt of Hartsville; two daughters, Libby (Jerry) Thompson of Darlington and Susan (Phillip) Gibson of Darlington; three grandchildren, Jaime Britt, Britt Atkinson and Amanda Thompson; one great–grandson, Ian Britt; and two sisters, Joyce Miles and Margaret Taylor.
Memorials may be made to the Willing Workers Sunday School Class c/o Epworth United Methodist Church, 706 Pearl St., Darlington, SC 29532.
ALEX WEBSTER
Funeral services for Alex Milton Webster Sr., 75, were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Jeri Perkins and Terri Ott officiating. Burial followed in Westview Memorial Park cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Carolina Hospital Hospice Care, 121 E. Cedar St., Florence, SC 29501, or to the First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Webster died Thursday, April 3, 2003. Born in Dillon County, he was a son of the late Luther David and Flossie Harrelson Webster. Mr. Webster was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was very active in the church, and enjoyed meeting new people. Mr. Webster was a past member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Shrine. He served in the United Stated Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Webster of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Alex M. and Cindy Webster Jr. of Richmond Hill, Ga.; daughter, Julie Webster Shoemake of Bethune; sister, Rosa Lee Webster Hardy of Latta; brother and sister–in–law, Colonel and Nell Webster of Chatsworth, Ga.; six grandchildren; and five great–grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Luther Webster, his mother Flossie Webster, his brother David Webster, his sister Sara Brown, and his daughter Mary Webster.
EMMA DuBOSE
LAMAR — Graveside services for Elma Lee Laffoday DuBose, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 200, 3 in Cypress cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
Mrs. DuBose, widow of Victor Ronald DuBose, died Sunday, April 6, 2003. Born in Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Deborah Marsh Laffoday.
Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Victor Ronald and Montye McKenzie DuBose Jr. of Charleston, Richard Laffoday and Nellita Pridmore DuBose of Summerville; daughter and son–in–law, Lillian DuBose and Romaine Howard of Tarboro, N.C.; brother and sister–in–law, Samuel K. and Joanne Laffoday of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and grandchildren, L. Marsh Howard and Romaine Howard III, both of Tarboro, N.C., Ragan A. DuBose and Taryn M. DuBose, both of Charleston. She was preceded in death by her sister, Deborah Laffoday McAbee, and her brother, Charles W. Laffoday Jr.
HUGH BOYD BEASLEY
Funeral services for Hugh Boyd Beasley, 74, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Chapel of Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home with the Rev. DeVere Williams w officiating. Burial followed in Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hebron United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Beasley died Friday, April 4, 2003. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Willis Russell and Rowena Skinner Beasley. He was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church and the Patesville Masonic Lodge and was retired from DuPont with 35 years of service. He was a devoted family man.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Ann Dalrymple Beasley of Hartsville; son, Hugh Albert Bert Beasley of Hartsville; daughter and son–in–law, Joan and Joe Kelly of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Milford Kea of Columbia; grandchildren, Alyson Siczek, Sarah Jeffords and Joseph Kelly II. He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Beasley, and his sister, Alice Hutto.
BETTY F. ALLEN
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — A celebration of the life of Betty Frances Fink Allen, 72, was held on Friday, March 28, 2003, at Clearview Church. She donated her body to Vanderbilt Medical Research Hospital in Nashville.
Mrs. Allen died at her home on Tuesday, March 25, after being diagnosed with cancer last October. She was born and reared in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Hamilton and Ora James Fink of Hartsville. A resident of Franklin since 1987, she was the wife of Fletcher Allen, also of Darlington County, and they were married
at First Baptist Church in Hartsville in 1954. After two years in U.S. Army during the Korean War, her husband worked in public relations for Sonoco Products Co. for two yeas. He also was sports editor of the Florence Morning News for two years before beginning a career in Christian journalism.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Hartsville High School and Coker College (1953) . She and her husband lived in Maryland, South Carolina and Fulda, Germany, before moving to Franklin in 1989.
She was a devoted member of Clearview Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class. She was active in the home and foreign missions programs of the church. She and her husband, retired editor of the Baptist and Reflector (Tennessee) , made several mission trips overseas and in the United States.
They led a group from the church on a mission trip to Sydney and Perth, Australia, last June.
In addition to homemaking, Mrs. Allen worked in the preschool children's school at Clearview Church. She was also involved in Meals on Wheels and other volunteer organizations.
Survivors include four daughters, Amy Buckingham of Greer, Jennifer Howard of Lexington, Monica Langdale of York and Melody Scott of Franklin, Tenn.; a brother, C. R. Fink of Hartsville; a sister, Lynnora Ross of Bishopville and nine grandchildren.
Her siblings H. F. Fink, Elizabeth Irvin and James Fink, all of Hartsville, preceded her in death.

ANNIE T. BOULWARE
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Annie Laura Stokes Tobias Boulware, 87, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, in the Kistler–Hardee Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Allen Lynch. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boulware, widow of the late Troy James Tobias, died Tuesday, April 1, in a local hospital. She was born in Kershaw County. She was the daughter of the late James Evander and Effie Caulder Stokes. She retired from Dixie Cup and Darlington Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Boulware attended the Vision Assembly Church.
Survivors include a son, James Bradley (Bea) Tobias of Darlington; a daughter, Barbara (Johnny) Gainey of Darlington; a step–daughter, Virginia (Mallard) Braddock of Murrells Inlet; five grandchildren, Beth (Glenn) McRae, Joseph Tobias, Eugene (Jean) Gainey, Ray Gainey, Jane (Eddie) Nobles, and Marilyn Reeves; and a number of great–grandchildren and great–great–grandchildren.
BUBBIE GEORGE
LAMAR — Funeral services for Bubbie George were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Mary Magdalene Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the Plaza Memorial Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar.
Mr. George died Friday, March 28, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Lamar, a son of the late Irene McNeil George. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. He was married
to Bertha Mae Hilton.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Edward (Thomasena) George and Knorphe George, both of Lamar, Edward (Letitia) Junior Gibson of Columbia, Ga. and Gerald Stevenson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Carolyn George, Bernice (Larry) Price and Pearlie Mae (James) McClain, all of Lamar; seven sisters, Iva Lee Brunson, Thelma George, Annie Myzack, Virginia Prince, Ella McCullough, Annie McThil and Gertrude Burns; seven brothers, Lynnburg McNeil, Walter George Jr., Ronnie George, Alton George, Anthony George, Wesley George and Ulysses George; 26 grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.
EDWARD C. STEVENS
McBEE — Graveside services for Edward Carson Stevens, 75, widower of Vera Tarlton Stevens, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Tabernacle Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.
Mr. Stevens died Tuesday, April 1. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late James (Bud) and Cora Dixon Stevens.
Surviving are five daughters, Joyce Flowers, Brenda Hall, Betty Gainey, all of McBee, Kathy Stevens of Darlington and Minnie Braddock of Columbia; four sons, Cecil and Pee Wee Stevens of McBee, James Ellis of Kernesville, N.C., and Jerry Stevens of Columbia; a brother, Gene Stevens of Kershaw; three sisters, Annie Mae Dixon of Kershaw, Lela Dixon of Society Hill and Betty Lyles of Columbia; 21 grandchildren and 36 great–grandchildren.

GWENDOLYN BROACH
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Gwendolyn Trader Broach, 91, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Broach died Tuesday, April 1, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Lynchburg, daughter of the late William and Letha Farrell Trader. She was married
to the late David L. Broach, who died in 1992. She was a housewife, was very attentive to her family and was a member of the First Church of God of Reformation in Florence.
Surviving are a son, David L. (Martha) Broach Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Joanne (Joe) B. Locklair of Darlington; five grandchildren, David L. Broach III, Cheryl York, Dale Locklair, David Bubba Locklair and Randy Locklair; 10 great–grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin Trader of Florence.
ADDIE W. HOLLAND
HIGH POINT, N.C.— Funeral services for Addie Waiters Holland, formerly of Hartsville, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, April 4, 2003, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Byron Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holland died Monday, March 31, in High Point, N.C. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Isaac and Bertha Ings Waiters. She was educated in the public schools, graduating from Butler High School. She later moved to Charlotte, N.C., where she met and married
James Holland. She was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Thomlinson of High Point until her retirement. When she resided in Hartsville, she attended Jerusalem Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory a brother, Isaac Waiters Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa.; an aunt, Rebecca Holmes of Timmonsville; a niece Diana Waiters of Hartsville; a nephew, Robert McFarland of Hartsville; and a cousin, Bernice Wilson of Hartsville.
