Funeral services for Euna Mae Steen Davis, 74, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Green Hill Church of God with the Rev. Jerry Gainey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis died Tuesday, July 15, 2003. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Catherine Dixon Steen.
Surviving are her husband, Donnie Davis of Hartsville; sons, Leroy Gainey and Gene Gainey of Hartsville, J. C. Buff of Lugoff, Travis Walker of Hartsville; daughters, Elsie Mae Johnson and Tammy Austin of Hartsville, Debbie Crowley of Darlington; sisters, Martha Hall of Kannapolis, N.C., Evelyn Jones of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Buddy Davis of Hartsville; grandchildren, India Walker, Todd Gainey, Lisa Gainey, Dallas Gainey, Karen Gainey, Jonathan Gainey; 14 great–grandchildren; and one great–great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her sons, Harold and James Gainey.
BARBARA CURLOTT
DARLINGTON — A graveside service for Barbara Carolyn Truett Curlott was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church cemetery, Lydia, with the Rev. James N. Ellis Jr. officiating, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Curlott died Sunday, July 13, at Lower Cape Fear Hospital in Wilmington, N.C., after a short illness. She was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Darlington, the daughter of the late Dudley Truett and Cora Lee Truett. She, her late husband, Joseph Curlott Jr., and two youngest children moved to the Bolivia/Southport area in 1978. For many years she and her husband owned and operated the Southport Marina Tackle Shop. Mrs. Curlott enjoyed her life as a military wife and enjoyed cooking, nature, gardening and reading. She was the mother of five children and eight grandchildren and one new great–granddaughter.
Survivors include her eldest daughter, Debra Damron (Martin) Gustoski of Fairbanks, Alaska; sons, Steven (Shelby) Damron and Christopher (Letitia) Damron, both of Lexington, Ky., Joseph E. (June) Curlott III of Greensboro, N.C. and baby daughter, Sally Curlott Turbeville of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, PO Box 987, Shallotte/Wilmington, N.C.
ELEANORE J. ELIAS
PATRICK — Funeral services for Eleanore Jillene (Jill) Elias, 32, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Brown Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Baker, Kenny Truesdale and Dr. Robert L. LaFreniere officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the residence of her parents, 1102 J. C. Barefoot Rd.
Mrs. Elias died Wednesday, July 16. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of Jimmy and Eleanore (Tootsie) Barefoot Gainey.
Surviving are her husband, Brian Elias of Patrick; her parents of Patrick; daughter, Christian Leigh Elias of Patrick; and a brother, Ricky Gainey of Hartsville.
GRACIE DELL McFADDEN
LAMAR — Funeral services for Gracie Dell McFadden, 62, will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 18, 2003, in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Wilson, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar.
Ms. McFadden died Monday, July 14, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Bishopville, the daughter of the late Haskel and Della Lee McFadden. She was the last surviving child. She was a 1958 graduate of Spaulding High School in Lamar and worked at Sarah Lee Hosiery of Florence until her retirement in 1996. She joined Sandy Grove United Methodist Chruch at an early age and remained a member until her death.
She is survived by a daughter, Shari McFadden of Lamar; a son, Carroll Dean McFadden of Charlotte, N.C.; she raised a niece and two nephews as her own after the death of their mother and her sister, (Rudell McFadden Woodham) Sharon Smith of Darlington, Tracy (Carolina) Woodham of El Paso, Texas, and Norris Woodham of Brooklyn, N.Y.' two uncles, Harold McFadden and Ernest McFadden of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Cara, Stephanie, Angelica, Adrian, Aaron and Hope; and additonal nieces and nephews.
HORACE F. RUDISILL
DARLINGTON — A graveside service for Horace Fraser Rudisill, 78, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2003, in Mt. Hope cemetery in Florence, conducted by the Rev. Jim Hardee and the Honorable Marvin I. Lawson, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Rudisill died Tuesday, July 15. He was born in Florence County and was the son of the late Horace and Carroll Chase Rudisill. He was the Director of the Historical Commission for 35 years and the Darlington County historian for 37 years. Mr. Rudisill also authored several historial books and was a popular public speaker on Darlington County history.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Byrd Rudisill of the home; a daughter, Louise R. (John) Murray of Charleston and a step–son, Robert D. Howell of Darlington.
The family will receive friends at Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home tonight, from 6 to 8.
Memorials may be made to the Darlington County Historical Commission Special Fund, 204 Hewitt Street, Darlington, SC 29532.
CHARLES E. GREEN
Charles Edward Green, 64, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Wilson Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
MOSE KETTER SR.
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Grant Mose Ketter Sr., 79, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, in New Hopewell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Ketter died Saturday, July 12, at Wilson Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Moses and Victoria Campbell Ketter. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County. He was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving are seven children, Sam (Marrella) McDaniels of Philadelphia, Pa., Grant (Sarah) Ketter Jr. and Cindy (Abram Sr.) Wallace of Darlington, Lucy (Leander) Wynn and Catherine (Franklin) Johnson of Durham, N.C., Boykin Moses Ketter of the home and Howard (Margaret) Ketter of Sumter; two brothers, Luke Ketter Sr. and Columbia Ketter, both of Darlington; five sisters, Mary Jane Benjamin of Darlington, Easter Ketter, Lillie Bell George and Vera George, all of St. Albany, N.Y., and Fannie Bacote of Atlanta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; six great–grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
TAMMIE SOLOMON
LAMAR — Mrs. Tammie Solomon, 34, wife of Robert Solomon, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the Lamar High School Gymnasium. Burial followed in Plaza Memorial Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Lamar.
Tammie was a daughter of Hazel and Mary (Shaw) McFadden. She was born in Bronx, N.Y. and moved to South Carolina early in life with her parents. She was last employed with the Precious One Day Care Center of Lamar as a director. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor AME Church of Lamar, where the Rev. C.J. Eaddy is the pastor.
Surviving, other than her husband, Robert of the home, and her parents, Hazel and Mary McFadden of Lamar, are two sons, Anthony and Roger McFadden, and two daughters, Deontra and Kandyce McFadden, all of the home; one sister, Delores Solomon of Lamar; two brothers Michael and Tyrone McFadden of Lamar; and one grandson, Anthony McFadden of the home. Also a host of aunts, uncles and other close relatives and friends.
ILA MAE POSTON
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Ila Mae Tucker Poston, 60, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Banks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Poston, widow of Clyde R. Poston, died Thursday, July 10, 2003. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Sandy Linton and Maude Freeman Tucker. She was retired from Galey & Lloyd.
Surviving are her sons, Clyde Dennis Poston of Society Hill, Gary Linton Poston of Society Hill; daughter, Ann P. Bryant of Society Hill; sisters, Charlotte Keith of Hartsville, Emma Jean Spease of Cheraw, Nancy Jones of Society Hill, Courtney Wilkes of Society Hill; brother, Buddy Tucker of Hartsville; and a grandchild, Jamie Bryant.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Gus Tucker, Jim Tucker, Pete Tucker.
GENE SELLERS
Funeral services for Julius Eugene Gene Sellers, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at the Chapel of Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Nicholson will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Sellers died Sunday, July 13, 2003. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Julius May and Dessie Mae Tucker Sellers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a POW after the Battle of the Bulge. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company. He was a member of the Morton Presbyterian Church, Moose Lodge No. 1770, American Legion and the Old Timers Club.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette McDonald Sellers of Hartsville; son, David W. Sellers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter and son–in–law, Helen S. and Billy Sherrill of Hartsville; sisters, Beatrice Hall of Hartsville, Dorothy McIntosh of Mt. Holly, N.C., Diane Stroud of Hartsville; brothers, James G. Sellers of Charlotte, N.C., Bobby S. Sellers of Park Rapids, Minn.; grandchildren and spouses, Bill and Melissa Sherrill, Jeff and April Sherrill, Melissa Sorg; great–grandchildren, Christopher Sorg, Bryson Sherrill; special friends, Ray and Virginia Davis, H. B. and Pearl Hunt, Charles and Tricia Small.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John David Sellers, Perry Sellers, Murray Sellers, and Pete Sellers.
CLEO ODOM
Funeral services for Cleo Dyson Odom, 77, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Praise Temple Church with the Rev. J. L. Dutton officiating. Burial followed in Darlington Memorial Gardens directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Praise Temple.
Mrs. Odom, widow of Sidney Z. Odom, died Friday, July 11, 2003. Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell J. and Georgia Thompson Dyson.
Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Mitchell and Iva Odom, Bobby Odom, Marvin and Linda Odom, Allen Odom, all of Hartsville; sisters, Lois Baker of Winnsboro, Irene Poston of Florence, Geraldine Gill of Florence, Magdalene McDaniel of Lake City, Betty Cribbs of Darlington; eight grandchildren; and seven great–grandchildren.
GRACIE McFADDEN
LAMAR — Ms. Gracie McFadden died on Monday, July 14 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. The family will receive friends at the residence. All arrangements are entrusted to Hines Funeral Home of Lamar.
DERRICK LLOYD
LAMAR — Funeral services for Derrick W. Lloyd, age 60, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar, with interment following in Elim United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Lloyd died Saturday, July 12, in a Florence Hospital. Born in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Rufus and Bessie Pipkin Lloyd. He had retired from the Darlington County Maintenance Shop and was a member of Elim United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Blackwell Lloyd of Lamar; son, Randy Lloyd, of Lamar; daughter, Sheila (Danny) Ward of Andrews; grandchildren, Randall Lloyd and Ashley War; brother, Jennings (Faye) Lloyd of Lamar; and mother–in–law, Mildred Blackwell of Lamar.
LONNIE GARRIS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Lonnie Maurice Garris, 58, was held on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Frankie Tanner. Burial followed in Grove Hill cemetery directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Garris died Thursday, July 10 after an illness. He was born in Darlington County and was the son of the late Hubert Jackson and Lorena Weatherford Garris. He worked in the logging industry for most of his life. He was a member of the Mont Clare Baptist Church and enjoyed racing, fishing, and hunting. He was also a member of the I–20 Fishing Club.
Surviving are three sons, Lonnie M. (Frankie) Garris Jr., Randy D. Garris and Chris H. Garris, all of Darlington; a daughter, Keesha Anna Garris of Chesterfield; a brother, Bobby J. Garris of Darlington; a sister, Peggy G. (Charles) Dickerson of Darlington and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, 555 Cheves St., Florence SC, 29506.
ANNIE ODOM
LAMAR — Funeral services for Annie Grantham Odom, 89, were held 2 p.m. Monday July 14, 2003, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar. Interment followed in Newman Swamp cemetery.
Mrs. Odom died Thursday, July 10, in a local hospital. Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Rosia H. S. and Minnie Joye Grantham. She was married
to the late Jack E. Odom. Mrs. Odom was a loving mother. She had retired from Dixie Cup and was a member of Lamar Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Jackie (Loretta) Odom of Goose Creek and Kenneth Bubby (Janie) Odom of Cassatt; one daughter, Margie Ann (Marion) McCathern also of Cassatt; also, nine grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Lamar Rescue Squad, PO Box 114, Lamar, SC 29069.
