Funeral services for Frances Garland Register Sansbury, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Milton Frazier, the Rev. Steve Garland and the Rev. Dr. Gary Colboch will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Odyssey, 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite 109, Charleston, SC 29405.
Mrs. Sansbury died Wednesday, Feb. 11. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late James Buchanan and Olivia Bennett Garland. She was an honor graduate of Hartsville High School, formerly a member of Twitty United Methodist Church, and for 40 years an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and prayer warrior. For most of her life she worked as a bookkeeper, working for Wilson and Pressley Coker Cotton Gins, and then for 32 years at Economy Heating and Air Conditioning Company.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Mason Register, and is survived by her daughter Patricia Register O'Neil of Charleston; grandchildren, Dominique M. Barteet, Hal McClain Jr., Travis Chance McClain, John McClain; and four great–grandchildren.
She is also predeceased by her second husband of 26 years, Broadus D. Sansbury; a step–daughter, Faye S. Kelley, and a step–son, Broadus Bo Sansbury. She is survived by stepdaughters, Daphne S. Tedder of Hartsville, Shelby S. Russ of Maxton, N.C.; grandchildren, Ronnie Kelley, Deborah K. Butler, Lynn K. Rogers, Maxie Tedder, Andy Tedder, Carol T. Moore, Linda R. Brooks, Robert Russ Jr., Jody Russ, Scott Russ; 11 great–grandchildren; six great–great–grandchildren.
ROBERT M. GANDY JR.
SOCIETY HILL — A graveside service for Robert M. Gandy Jr., 82, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in the Welsh Neck Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mr. Gandy died Thursday, Feb. 12. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Robert M. and Sallie Vista Linton Gandy. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Gandy was a member of the Society Hill Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Samuel A. Gandy of Bennettsville, Harvey W. Gandy of Society Hill and Brooks E. Gandy of Darlington; two sisters, Catherine G. Hill and Myrtle G. Keith, both of Society Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends this evening, Feb. 13, from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
J.B. TILLER
Graveside services for J. B. Tiller, 63, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 13, 2004, at Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Tiller died Wednesday, Feb. 11. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Clarence E. Tiller Sr. and Luerena Jernigan Tiller.
Surviving are his wife, Annette Vinson Tiller of Hartsville; two daughters, Mondora Tyler of Wagner and Amy Walters of Hartsville; a sister, Maybelle Howle of Hartsville; three brothers, Monroe Tiller of Rock Hill, Clarence E. Tiller Jr. of Darlington and Ray Tiller of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
CAROL S. CATOE
Funeral services for Carol Speight Catoe, 48, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Browne officiating.
Burial was in Magnolia cemetery.
Mrs. Catoe died Tuesday, Feb. 10. She was born in Darlington County, a son of Paul and Mary Carroll Speight.
Surviving are her husband, Randy Catoe of Hartsville; three daughters, Angie Gainey, Tonya Spell and Dawn Saverance, all of Hartsville; two sons, Ricky Catoe of Hartsville and Dac Catoe of Murrells Inlet; and 11 grandchildren.
She has a deceased brother, Pedro Speight.
JESSIE DUNDY
LYDIA — Jessie Dundy, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in a Columbia Nursing Home after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Hercules Lee Dundy, 5713 Indian Branch Road, Lydia.
LILLIE HENRY
Funeral services for Lillie Dyer Henry, 89, will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2004, at First Pentecostal Church of Oberlin, La. The Rev. Bobby Bunting will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklin Springs cemetery, under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder, La.
Mrs. Henry died Monday, Dec. 29, in Hartsville. She was a resident of Oberlin before moving to South Carolina many years ago. She worked for Ardoin Funeral Home for 18 years and was a resident of Morning Side Assisted Living in South Carolina.
Survivors include one son, Daniel and Claudette Henry of Lufkin, Texas; one daughter, Jerry (Lee) Beason of Hartsville; one sister, Maud Sonnier of Lake Charles; six grandchildren; five great–grandchildren and one great–great–grandchild.

JOHNNIE A. SANDIFER
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Johnnie Allen Sandifer, 59, formerly of Bamberg, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at the Darlington Church of God of Prophecy conducted by the Rev. Bobby Steen. Burial followed in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Sandifer died Monday night, Dec. 29, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Bamberg County, a son of the late Heyward and Lula Mae Bunch Sandifer. He retired from Dixie Plate Company. He was a member of the Darlington Church of God of Prophecy, where he was an usher, assistant Sunday School superintendent and worked with the Children's Church. Mr. Sandifer served his country in the United States Army and served his community with the Bamberg Fire Department. Mr. Sandifer loved NASCAR racing, having been to almost every Southern 500 in Darlington. Johnnie was the official driver of the Darlington Pace Car for the Southern 500 Parade.
Mr. Sandifer was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy S. Martin.
Surviving are two sons, Johnnie A. Sandifer Jr. of Socastee and Jeffrey A. Sandifer of Darlington; one daughter, Jamie A. (Frankie) Kersey of Darlington; two brothers, Buddy (Claudia) Sandifer and Paul Daniel (Phyllis) Sandifer, both of Bamberg; three sisters, Louise Sandifer Price and Mary Sandifer (Ray) Hayes, both of Bamberg, Shirley Sandifer Cook of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren, Tyler Sandifer, Christopher Kersey, Justin Kersey, Jessica Sandifer and Hannah Kersey.
Memorials may be made to the Darlington Church of God of Prophecy, 920 W. Smith Ave., Darlington, SC 29532.
GENE A. JEFFERY
Gene A. Jeffery, formerly of Darlington County, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in a New Jersey Hospital. Local arrangements announced by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville.
He was a son of the late Jennings and Thelma (Issac) Jeffery Sr. He was educated in the public schools of the county, and after graduation he continued his education at Friendship College in North Carolina to become a teacher. He was employed in the Jersey City School District for 10 years. He later was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 14 years. Gene later decided to go into business for himself and started his own landscaping company.
He is survived by his wife, Luvenia (Lulu) Jeffery of the home; one son, Gene Jeffery Jr. of Jersey City, N.J.; one daughter, Shantay Jeffery of Jersey City; three step–sons, Nishaha Banks of Piscataway, N.J., Terrance Banks and Jerrell Banks, both of Morristown, N.J.; two brothers, Jennings Jeffery Jr. and Tyrone Jeffery, both of Hartsville; five sisters, Ruth Waters, Thelma Abson and Wanda Bracey, all of Hartsville, Fran Knox of Columbia and Mae Battle of Jersey City; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
LUCY JOHNSON
Funeral services for Lucy Vivian Hough Johnson, 87, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2004, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson, who was married
to the late Warren Elmore W.E. Johnson for 59 years, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home in Griffin, Ga. Born in Pageland, she was a daughter of the late William Franklin and Maude Lowery Hough. She was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church for more than 45 years, was a member of the Ruth Kelley Sunday School class and Women's Circle No. 1, and she and her husband worked with various children's programs over the years. She was previously employed with Sonoco Products Company and the Hartsville Cotton Mill and was an active member of the Woodmen of the World. Miss Lucy, as she was known to everyone, always had a smile on her face and was known for her kindness to everyone. She loved children and especially her two grandsons and new granddaughter.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Becky and Wayne Clanton of Griffin, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew Clanton, Bryan Clanton and Lisa Clanton, all of Griffin, Ga.; sisters–in–law and brother–in–law, Myrtle and Nolan Gainey, Quin Johnson, Sarah Hough, all of Hartsville, Anna Elizabeth Griggs of Concord, N.C., Floreet Johnson of Monroe, N.C., Sarah Edmondson of Salisbury, N.C.; nephews, Otis B. Hough Jr. of Winston–Salem, N.C. and Billy Hough of Spartanburg.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Otis Hough Sr. and Roy Hough, and her sister, Annie Rivers.

Tebelle Sinclair died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
KAY HOBBS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services Kathryn Kay Stonecypher Hobbs will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 2, 2003, at First Baptist Church with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hobbs died Wednesday, Dec. 31, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Bennington O. Stonecypher and the late Marie Cook Stonecypher McDonald. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Darlington and her Sunday School class. She was a member of Woman's Missionary Union and served as WMU director for 18 years, also served as a president and circle leader for a number of years. She was a member and past leader of the Kay Hobbs Bible Study Group (Circle) . Mrs. Hobbs was an office assistant in the Agricultural Department of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation in Darlington. She later received a Certificate of Recognition from the department; a secretary for the Pure Oil Company in Chicago; a member and past president of the South Carolina Optometric Auxiliary; a member of the American Optometric Foundation; past president of the following: the Darlington Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does; the Garden Study Club, a volunteer worker of the civic organizations and later, she received a 20–year Red Cross pin for serving in the blood program as a volunteer. She was also a volunteer participant as a teacher in the Literacy Program.

BOBBY J. DONAHUE
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Bobby Joe Donahue, 56, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in the chapel of Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home with interment following in Long Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Donahue died Wednesday, Feb. 4. He was born in Jefferson, a son of Daisy Melton Donahue Lowery and the late Broadus James Donahue. He was a retired businessman and carpenter and was a member of Prince of Peach Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Donahue.
Survivors include one son, Jason Donahue of Society Hill; a daughter, Kathy Donahue of Hartsville; a step–son, Davin Keith of Society Hill; mother and step–father, Daisy Donahue Lowery and Wilson Lowery of Pageland; one sister, Shelby Jean Baker of Cassatt; special friend, Darlene Flowers of Cheraw; two grandchildren, Tray McCray and Destiny Crowley; two nephews, Ashley Tolson and Tracy Branham; and one niece, Marie Mattox.
LARRY COE
Funeral services for Larry Coe, 38, were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Nazareth Apostolic Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Coe died Sunday, Feb. 1, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Darlington County, son of Mary Margaret Coe and the late Ed Benjamin of Hartsville. He was a graduate of Hartsville High School. He also was employed with Ampax in Hartsville.
Surviving other than his mother of Hartsville are three brothers, James Wallace Coe of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Douglas LeRoy Coe of Florence and Scott Allen Coe of Hartsville; seven aunts, Florrie Thomas Lighty, Queen Ester Coe and Willie Mae Daniels, all of Hartsville, Laura Mae McQueen of Wadesboro, N.C., Martha Lee Moore of Detroit, Mich., Peggy Brown of Newport News, Va., and Ellen Smith of Washington, D.C.; three uncles, James Coe of Bridgeport, Conn., David Coe of Arlington, Va., and Carnell Coe Jr., of Decatur, Ga.; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Eli John E.J. Flowers Sr., 80, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Kistler–Hardee Chapel conducted by the Rev. Steve Zmmerman and the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Sandifer. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Flowers died Friday, Feb. 6, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County and was the son of the late John and Bannie Odom Flowers. Mr. Flowers was a farmer all of his working life and a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a father, grandfather and great–grandfather.
Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jordan Flowers; two brothers, Elbert and Cephas Flowers; and three sisters, Daisy Flowers, Bessie James and Lois Dennis.
Survivors include three sons, Winfred (Loris) Flowers, Eli John Flowers Jr. and Donnie Flowers, all of Darlington; three daughters, Katie (Billy) Weaver and Pearl (Tommy) Jeffords, both of Darlington, and Eloise (Ronnie) Sims of Georgetown; two half–brothers, Harvey N. Honney Jr. of Florence and Ronald Honney of Darlington; three half–sisters, Wilma H. Banks, Blanche Honney and Carolyn Honney, all of Darlington; seven grandchildren and five great–grandchildren.
