Funeral services for Jerry Vadies Bulls, 39, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Second Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Bulls died Friday, Jan. 16, at Palmetto–Richland Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1964, in Madison, N.C., a son of the late Dorothy Mae Bulls Johnson. He received his education in the public schools of Darlington County.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina (Mike) Commander and Kina (Chris) Huggins, both of Hartsville; four grandchildren; five sisters, Joann (Pete) Johnson, Sandra Johnson, Lisa (Berry) Chris, Eleanor (Ronnie) Sowell and Shirley (Joe) Lucas, all of Hartsville; a brother, James (Cynthia) Johnson Jr. of Conway; a special aunt, Charlena Bulls Johnson of Hartsville; two great–aunts, Julia Bulls of Charlotte, N.C., and Louise Isaac of Darlington; and a great–great–uncle, James Howard of Darlington.
MARY KNOX
McBEE — Funeral services for Mary Knox, 90, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 23, 2004, at Galilee Baptist Church in McBee. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Knox died Sunday, Jan. 18, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late General Calhoun and Victoria Jackson Ellerbe. She received her education in the public schools of Lee County and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Towanda (Leroy) Williams, Michael Knox, Eunice Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan and Larry Sullivan, all of McBee; two great–grandchildren, Brion Williams and Charlton Williams, both of McBee; three sisters, Martha Shannon of Hartsville, Marie McFarland of McBee and Willie Mae Morris of Batesburg; and one brother, June Ellerbe of McBee.
MATTIE CROSS
Funeral services for Mattie Outlaw Cross, 82, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 23, 2004, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cross, widow of Randall M. Cross, died Wednesday, Jan. 21. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Murray C. and Bessie Lynch Outlaw. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Sonoco.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Barbara and Laurie Sansbury of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Kathleen and Charlie Griggs, Madie Spencer, Geraldine Barfield, all of Hartsville; grandchildren, Eddie Johnson Jr., Crystal Cox, Beth Gainey, Laurie Sansbury Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, L.B. Outlaw.
CHARLES WINBURN
AIKEN — Graveside funeral services for Charles Nabor Winburn, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Southlawn cemetery in Aiken, with the Rev. Julian Bowles officiating. Visitation will be held tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel in Aiken. Local announcements are being handled by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Winburn, husband of Margaret Locklear Winburn, died Thursday, Jan. 15, at his residence. He was born in Hartsville to the late Allen and Minnie Johnson Winburn. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict in the 82nd Airborne and retired from Owens Corning after 20 years of service. From 1970 to present, he was owner of Supply Service Co.
Mr. Winburn was predeceased by a son, Victor Winburn; sisters, Beulah Revell, Marie Winburn and Nezzie Barrett.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Tony Winburn and Jay Winburn, both of Aiken, Eddie Winburn of Couchton; daughter, Susan Ekononakis of Aiken; sisters, Bessie Braddock, Rosene Lyles, both of Hartsville, and Betty Jean Williams of Provo, Utah; brothers, Kenneth Winburn and Cecil Winburn, both of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren and three great–grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Martin, Cliff Hall, Robert Peake, Marshall Redd, Philp Proctor and Curtis Locklear.

PETE PERDUE
PATRICK — Funeral services for James W. Pete Perdue, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 23, 2004, at Patrick Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Perdue died Tuesday, Jan. 20. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Charlie Wilson and Jessie Mae Griggs Perdue. He was an owner/operator truck driver with Transus of Charlotte, N.C. Mr. Perdue was a member of Patrick Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Adult Men's Sunday School teacher. He was a former member of the Patrick Rescue Squad and Patrick Town Council.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Nancy McLain Perdue of the home; two brothers, Charles Perdue of Wallace and Jack Kenneth Perdue of Hartsville; two sisters, Ollie Tolson and Margie Ann Perdue, both of Patrick, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Chester Lincoln, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 3832 Lincoln Road, Society Hill.

Ruth Cuffie, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, at her residence. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at 524 Society Ave., Hartsville.
ESSIE WEATHERFORD
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Essie Jackson Weatherford, 90, were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Weatherford died Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Brian Center in Columbia. She was born in Dillon County, daughter of the late Jasper and Maggie Turbeville Jackson. She was married
to the late Elmer J. Weatherford. She was a retired nursing assistant and homemaker and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are one son, A. Derrick Weatherford Sr. of Latta; three daughters, Hazel Marilyn Rogers of Opp, Ala., Alma Joyce Odom of West Columbia and Eltas Jean Norris of Gallatin, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great–grandchildren and one great–great–grandchild.

LADELL WILSON
Ladell Wilson, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 22, at Morrell Memorial Nursing Home. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 905 L. Circle, Hartsville.
JANICE BEDENBAUGH
Funeral services for Janice Carol Cook Bedenbaugh, 58, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Fletcher Rawls will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bedenbaugh died Wednesday, Jan. 21. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late J. Brazell Cook and Bernice Shoemake Cook McElveen. She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas R. Bedenbaugh of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Charla M. and Jay Lee, Tracy M. and Danny Gainey, Nicole B. and Brian Lee, all of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Judon Ward of Hartsville, Linda and Frank Kelly of Society Hill; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her half–sister, Alnetta Howell.
RUBY D. LIGHTY–MALLOY
Funeral services for Ruby D. Lighty–Malloy will be held today, Jan. 21, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church. Burial will
follow in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville. The family will receive visitors at the residence at 712 Chapin Circle, Hartsville.
Mrs. Lighty–Malloy died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Eddie and Liller Davis, Sr. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She was married
to the late Jourmany Lighty, and this union was blessed with six children. She was later married
to the late Samuel Malloy. She was a member of Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church and served as president for the Women's Society of Christian Service. She also attended Pure Word Ministry. She was employed with the Saleeby Center Department of Disability and Special Needs until her retirement.
Survivors include her six children, Chapel (Virginia) Lighty, Felton (Ernestine) Lighty, Yvonne Roderick, Jourmany (Ann) Lighty, all of Hartsville, Dr. Charles (Lucille) Lighty of Florence, Anne Shaw of Bronx, N.Y., and one adopted son, the Rev. Johnny (Martes) Mitchell; two sisters, Cedell Davis of New York, N.Y., and Helen (Carlyle) of Lymus of Omaha, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great–grandchildren; six great–great–grandchildren and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
MYRNA ASARO
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Myrna Odom Asaro, 69, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Southside Free Will Baptist Church with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Asaro died Saturday morning, Jan. 17, in a local hospital. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Alston and Eva Knotts Odom. Mrs. Asaro was employed by Moore's Department Store as a sales clerk for many years and was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons and daughter–in–law, Eddie and Debbie Asaro of Darlington, Dean and Eva Asaro of Lamar, Todd and Jayne Asaro of Florence; one daughter and son–in–law, Hope and Howard Frye of Hartsville; six grandchildren, April, Mary Beth, Edward, Ricky Asaro, Josh and Matthew Frye; seven brothers, Hubert (Patsy) Odom, Weldon (Frances) Odom, Bobby (Mary) Odom, Barry Odom, Lee Odom, Dusty Odom, all of Darlington, Danny (Jan) Odom of Latta; one sister, Margie (Jamie) Dennis of Darlington.
DON BLAYTON
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Don Blayton, 64, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at the Free Will Baptist Bible Church. Entombment followed at the Darlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Blayton died Saturday, Jan. 17. He was born in Darlington, the son of the late Hilton and Edith Buckles Blayton. Mr. Blayton was a member of the Free Will Baptist Bible Church where he served as the church musician for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Blayton retired from CC Dickson after 30 years.
Survivors include three sons, Shawn Blayton of Darlington, Ronald Blayton and Tony Meggs, both of Florida; one daughter, Rita Bollinger of Darlington; one brother, Harry Blayton of Florence; one sister, Viola Rhodes of Darlington; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Ted, Katie, Ryan and Hannah.
Memorials may be made to the Free Will Baptist Bible Church, 316 Orange St., Darlington, SC 29532.
LESLIE CLIFTON SR.
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Leslie Droopy Eugene Clifton Sr., 77, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Clifton died Saturday morning, Jan. 17, at his residence. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Ivey and Romell Taylor Clifton. He served his country with the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years where he held many positions and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Miller Clifton of the home; one son, Gene (Pam) Clifton Jr. of Darlington; a daughter, Brenda (Woody) Dudley of Deltona, Fla.; four grandchildren, Leslie (Amy) Clifton, Haven Clifton, Chad Timmons, Paula Corbin; two great–grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Rogers of Lamar.
Memorials are suggested to Carolinas Hospice, 947 S. Irby Street, Florence, SC 29501.
RONALD FLOYD
Funeral services for Ronald Legrande Floyd, 52, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at the Brown Pennington Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leslie Floyd officiating. Burial followed in Prospect United Methodist Church cemetery.
Mr. Floyd died Saturday, Jan. 17. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Edward Floyd and the late Shelba Jean Atkinson Leviner and Delton Leviner. His nickname when he played football for Hartsville High School was Tank. He was retired from vinyl siding installation.
Surviving are his daughter and son–in–law, Carrie and Robert Shirley of Gilbert; son and daughter–in–law, Kristopher and Randi Floyd of Irmo; sister, Marcia Floyd of Laurinburg, N.C.; half–sister, Brenda Riles of Laurinburg, N.C.; and granddaughter, Taylor Shirley.
