ANN S. PERDUE

PATRICK — Funeral services for Ann Sellers Perdue, 50, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at Eastside Holiness Church in Hartsville. Burial was held in Patrick cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home of Patrick.

Mrs. Perdue died Thursday, March 25. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of Evelyn Crowley McLain and the late William Ernest Sellers. She was a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Mrs. Perdue was a faithful member of Eastside Holiness Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She was married to the late Jimmy Wayne Perdue.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Wayne (Jennifer) Perdue Jr.; a daughter, Lori P. (Terry) Morrison, both of Hartsville; mother, Evelyn Crowley McLain of Patrick; two brothers, Dean Sellers of Hartsville and Jessie Sellers of Patrick; three sisters, twin sister Jan Vick of Chesterfield and Doris Jordan and Peggy Norman, all of Patrick; two grandchildren, Brooke Jacobs and Hunter Morrison, both of Hartsville.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Holiness Church, 201 S. McFarland St., Hartsville, SC 29550.

PATRICIA O. MORANT

DARLINGTON — Home going services for Patricia O. Morant were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in the chapel of Boatwright's Chapel On Main with the Rev. Dr. Donald L. Hughes officiating. Interment followed in Darlington Memorial cemetery.

Mrs. Morant expired on Tuesday, March 23, after a brief illness. She was born and reared in New York City, N.Y. She was a daughter of Florence Morant and the late Morris Morant. She was baptized at an early age and attended Metropolitan Baptist Church. She graduated from Brandis High School and performed clerical duties at a financial institution in New York City.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Florence Morant; a sister, Mildred Morant; brother, Bernard Morant, of New York City; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends. She was a devoted daughter and will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Mrs. Morant was preceded in death by her father and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Rosalie Purvis in July 2003.

BETTY JORDAN

Funeral services for Betty Carolyn Stokes Jordan, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dave Worthington will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening, March 31, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jordan, widow of Joseph L. Jordan Sr., died Tuesday, March 30. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Leon Whitner and Hattie Lloyd Stokes. She was a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church.

Surviving are her sons and daughter–in–law, Joseph L. and Kathy Jordan Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md., Charlie W. Jordan of Hartsville, J. Barry Jordan Sr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters and brothers–in–law, Eva Mae S. Perkins of Roanoke, Va., Ruby S. and Tommy Adams of Lamar, Dot S. and Happy Malphus of Hartsville; grandchildren, Joseph L. Jordan III, Jessica Anne Jordan, John Barry Jordan II.

AZILE TREADAWAY

Funeral services for Azile Gainey Treadaway, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 31, 2004, at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Treadaway died Tuesday, March 30. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late James Ernest and Margaret Gainey Gainey.

Surviving are her son, William Treadaway of Society Hill; daughter, Edith Lynn Hosteller of Charleston; 11 grandchildren and three great–grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ernestine Treadaway.

ROBERT JAMES

Robert James, 66, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at 140 Floyd Road, Darlington.

CARROLL AMERSON

Funeral services for Carroll Amerson, 71, will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 26, 2004, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. James E. Beck Jr., Buddy Amerson, Hazel Mixon and Don Rhyne will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Amerson died Wednesday, March 24. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late Pearlie Ray and Gracie Garrett Amerson. He retired from IMC and was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Ann Amerson of Hartsville; adopted son, James Segars of Hartsville; two sisters, Dorothy Herring of Bishopville and Martha Frank of Sumter; and two brothers, Edward Amerson of Bishopville and the Rev. Buddy Amerson of Hartsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Letha Beasley Amerson and a brother, Ray Amerson.

ELOISE GRIGGS

DARLINGTON — Graveside services for Eloise Griggs, 64, will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 26, 2004, in Mt. Olivet cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Griggs died Wednesday, March 24, in a Florence nursing home. She was the daughter of the late Luke and Lizzie Brigman Griggs.

Surviving are her sister, Velma G. Windham of Darlington and one brother, Hilton Griggs of Bishopville.

EVASTER BISHOP

Funeral services for Evaster Bishop, 88, were held on Monday, March 22, 2004, at New Hopewell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Bishop died Wednesday, March 17, at Wilson Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Sam and Ida Bishop. He received his education in the Darlington County public school system. He was a longtime member and served as a deacon of St. Matthews Apostolic Church.

Surviving are eight children, Ida Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Evaster Bishop Jr., of New York City, Carolyn (James) Moore of Elmont, N.Y., Samuel Bishop and Michael Bishop, both of Darlington, Annie (Marvin) Toney of Hartsville, Isaac Bishop of Harlem, N.Y. and Eva (Milton) Maria Lashley of St. Albans, N.Y.; one daughter–in–law, Diane Bishop; two sisters, Catherine Page and Lila Harrison and one brother, Rector Bishop, all of South Carolina; six brothers–in–law; eight sisters–in–law; 17 grandchildren; 11 great–grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.

CAROLYN JOHNSON

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Carolyn Johnson, 42, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at New Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late John Henry Smith and Fannie Mae Cotton. She was educated in Darlington County public school system. Mrs. Johnson was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Burness Catfish Johnson of Darlington; three children, Latoya Melvin, Ashley Johnson and Belinda Johnson, all of Darlington; one brother, John Calvin Smith of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Johnnie Mae Smith of Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

LOIS P. IVY

Funeral services for Lois Parker Ivy, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Eastside Holiness Church with the Revs. Charlotte Walters and Hazel Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be this evening, from 6–8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ivy, widow of John A. Ivy, died Thursday, March 25. She was born in Kershaw County.

Surviving are four sons, Dennis, Eric, Micky and Randy Ivy, all of Hartsville, and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Adams.

ETHEL HALL

Funeral services for Ethel Watson Hall, 76, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Marvin Griggs and Jack Wilson officiating. Burial followed in New Market United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Hall, widow of LeRoy Hall, died Friday, March 19. Born in Laurinburg, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Caulder Watson. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in McBee.

Surviving are her son, Jimmy Lee Hall of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters and sons–in–law, Doris H. and Terry Hatfield, Dorothy H. and Bruce Lewis, all of Hartsville, Diane H. Williamson of Louisiana, Ethel Mae Hall of Hartsville, Elaine H. and Mike Smith of Commerce, Ga., Loria Stukes, Gloria Hall and August Candy Hall, all of Hartsville; brothers, Otis Watson of High Point, N.C., Vester Watson of Tatum; sister, Leen Hall of Hartsville; 19 grandchildren and 22 great–grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Sessom, Virginia Cook, Bee Barker, Kerize Self.

ROSA LEE GREGG

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Rosa Lee Rogers Gregg were held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, in Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Herbert L. Temoney, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Faith Memorial Gardens, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gregg died Thursday, March 18, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Durham, N.C., a daughter of the late Phillip and Ella Damon Rogers. She was the widow of David Gregg Sr. She received her formal education in the Marlboro County public schools. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served as past usher.

Survivors include three daughters, Daisy G. Travis of the home, Marie El and Belinda Gregg, both of New Jersey; two sons, David Gregg Jr. of Dillon and Tyrone Gregg of Darlington; 15 grandchildren; a grandson she reared, Bernard Travis Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Gregg, three sisters and a brother.

ANNIE MAE SCOTT

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Annie Mae Williams Scott were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at St. James Untied Methodist Church with the Rev. Anna G. Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Faith Memorial Gardens, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scott died Wednesday, March 17, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Jessie and Kimmie Thomas Williams. She was the widow of James Tinky Bubba Scott.

She was educated in the Darlington County public schools and was a lifetime member of St. James Untied Methodist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers. She was employed by the Darlington County Public School District for 29 years and worked at St. John's Elementary School cafeteria until her retirement.

Survivors include nieces, Viola Dargan, Louise Scott Hamilton, both of Darlington, Laura Mae Wilds of Long Island, N.Y.; special nieces, Tara Jackson, Katrina Jackson, Kristen Jackson, Bobbie Jean Damon, all of Darlington, and Kitania (Brandon) Sanders of Florence; special nephew, Randy (Merlyn) Jackson, Leroy Jackson Sr., Walter Green, all of Darlington, Leroy Jackson Jr. of Spartanburg and Byron Jackson of Charleston Air Force Base; and special friend, Henrietta Pauley of Darlington.

ALICE W. WHITE

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Alice Sister Williams White were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Thomas Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Bacote cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.

Mrs. White died Thursday, March 18, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Joe and Alice Mumford Williams. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Rosa Lee (John) Pierce of Highpoint, N.C., Thelma D. White of Florence, Patricia (Thomas) Felder of Timmonsville, Geneva White, Rosetta White, Carolyn White, all of Darlington; a son, Fred White Jr. of Darlington; nine grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Sonny, Mary, Theodore, Fannie, Jerry, Johnny and Marion Williams; a special sister–in–law, Minister Ella Mae Parker of Baltimore, Md.; a special aunt, Mrs. Katie Mae Jackson of Winston–Salem, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons and other siblings.
