DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Roger L. Grier, 53, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at West Florence Church of God with interment following in Mechanicsville Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Grier died Thursday, March 18. He was born in Williamsburg County, son of Novalene Williamson Grier and the late Olin L. Grier. He was owner of Grier''s Construction. Mr. Grier enjoyed fishing, hunting and the fellowship of his church. He was a member of West Florence Church of God.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Darlington, are his wife, Margaret W. Grier of Darlington; two sons, Roger J. Grier of Darlington and Lee Grier of Pamplico; two daughters, Tisha S. Grier and Somone Grier, both of Darlington; one brother, Leon (Vera Nell) Grier of Hemingway and one sister, Leona G. Poston also of Hemingway.
RHONDA M. SHERMAN
Services for Rhonda Marie Pugh Sherman, 40, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 24, 2004, in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Sunrise Mausoleum, in Wilmington, N.C., with visitation following the services, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Ms. Sherman was born in Charleston, W. Va., the daughter of Lawson and Carol Ann Noble Pugh. She was previously employed with Sonoco Products Company.
Surviving are her parents of Wilmington, N.C.; husband, Guy Sherman of Hartsville; two sons, Richard Lee Sherman and William Michael Sherman of Hartsville; three sisters, Melanie Herring, Mindie Harmon, Heather Pugh, all of Wilmington, N.C.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
JAMES W. FLYNN
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for James William Jamie Flynn, 41, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anna G. Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Flynn, died Tuesday, March 16, at the home of his sister, Juanita, after an illness. He was born in Florence County, a son of the late Rev. Anderson and Ida Mae Johnson Flynn. He attended Darlington County public schools and was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He was employed with Darlington Veneer Company.
Survivors include, a son, DeMarcus Sentrell Flynn–Hicks of Darlington; three sisters, Juanita Flynn, Easter Wilds an Neomia Flynn, all of Darlington; two brothers, Ronald Flynn of Darlington and Isaac Flynn of Benson, NC; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
DOROTHY LEWIS
PATRICK — Funeral services for Dorothy Hall Lewis, 51, will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 24, 2004, at the Brown Pennington Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Marvin Griggs and Jack Wilson will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Lewis died Monday, March 22, 2004. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Leroy and Ethel Watson Hall.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce Lewis of Patrick; son and daughter–in–law, Ken and Lisa Lewis of Patrick; daughters and son–in–law, Cindy and Chris Widrig of McBee, Tiffany Lewis and Brittanie Lewis, both of Patrick; sisters, Doris Hatfield of Hartsville, Diane Williamson of Louisiana, Ethel Mae Hall of Hartsville, Elaine Smith of Commerce, Ga., Loria Stukes, Gloria Hall and August Candy Hall, all of Hartsville; brother, Jimmy Hall of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Kenneth Lewis Jr., Bryan Lewis, Marla Lewis, Quinten Widrig, Rose Widrig and Jason Watkins Jr.
MARGARET HORTON
Funeral services for Margaret Eubanks Horton, 83, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Bethune Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Crocker officiating. Burial followed in Bethel cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Bethune Baptist Church Building Fund, Box 326, Bethune, SC 29009.
Mrs. Horton, widow of Charlie O. Horton, died Thursday, March 18. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Minnie McDonald Eubanks. She was a member of Bethune Baptist Church and was retired from Kendall.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Judy and David Williams of Columbia; daughter–in–law, Peggy Horton of Jefferson; seven grandchildren; six great–grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Joe Mitchell Horton, Garland Horton, and Gary Horton.
MARGARET R. MILLER
Funeral services for Margaret Rollins Miller, 81, widow of Ernest M. Miller, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Cline officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Visitation will be this evening, March 24, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller died Tuesday, March 23. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Elvin S. and Era Galloway Rollins. She retired from the Trust Company of South Carolina. A member of the First Baptist Church of Hartsville, she grew up as a member of the St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Lee County and was a member of the Mary Byrd–Mae Goudelock Circle. She was a very active member of the Pilot Club of Hartsville where she had 43 years of perfect attendance and served as the club as treasurer for a number of years.
Surviving are two brothers, Thomas L. (Pete) Rollins of Bishopville and Reed Rollins of Pensacola, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles J. Rollins and George W. Rollins, and a sister, Jeanette Galloway.

NANCY SALEEBY
Graveside services for Nancy McLeod Saleeby, 41, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, in McBee cemetery with the Rev. Charles Nicholson officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Saleeby died Friday, March 19. Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Charlotte McMillan McLeod of McBee.
Surviving are her husband, Bryan Saleeby of Hartsville; daughters, Ashley McLeod, Tammie McLeod, and Nicole Saleeby, all of Hartsville; son, Thad E. Saleeby of Hartsville; sister, Charlotte Ann Daniels of Lexington; brothers, William G. McLeod of Charlotte, James McLeod of Florence and Allen G. McLeod of McBee.
PETE RAILEY
McBEE — Graveside services for Warren Edwin Pete Railey, 80, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in McBee cemetery with the Revs. Mike Rouse and Roger Dodd officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Railey, widower of Ruby Newman Railey, died Sunday, March 21. Born in Bethune, he was a son of Charlie Clyde and Nissie B. Sanders Railey. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was retired from McBee Exxon.
Surviving are his son and daughter–in–law, Jack and Linda Railey of McBee; daughter and son–in–law, Debra and Charles Bryant of Darlington; sisters, Portia McCoy of McBee, Beth Melton of Bethune; grandchilren, Edwin Easterling, Danny Easterling, Joseph Railey and Samantha Railey; one great–grandchild.
KEITH CAMPBELL
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Glenn Keith Campbell, 47, will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 19, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mr. Campbell died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in a Florence hospital. He was born in Darlington County, son of Molly Joyce Keith Campbell and the late Alston Leroy Campbell. He was a floral designer and taught floral designing at Florence–Darlington Technical College. He was the former owner of Keith's Flower Basket in Darlington and then Keith's Floral and Interiors in Blenheim. Mr. Campbell was awarded Outstanding Interior Designer for the Florence Parade of Homes and loved music. He was a member of Abundant Life Church in Florence.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Darlington, are two brothers, William Leroy (Sue) Campbell and Johnny McLaurin (Dale) Campbell, both of Darlington; four sisters, Gwen C. (Bob) Gandy of Hartsville, Rose C. (Termite) Briggs of Darlington, Lisa C. (Ronald) Turbeville of Florence and Page C. (Glenn) Chestnut of Darlington; also, a very special friend, Harold Black, and number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Darlington Free Medical Clinic, 203 Grove St., Darlington, SC 29532.
GLADYS P. BROWN
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Gladys P. Doll Baby Brown will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 19, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Thomas Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown died Saturday, March 13, in a Virginia Beach, Va. hospital after an illness. She was born in Apex, N.C., a daughter of the late Arthur and Lalon Raines Page. She was the widow of James Boot Brown Sr.
She was educated in the Apex school system. She was a nurse. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Willing Workers, Advisor of the Junior Missionary Society and member of the Senior Missionary Ministry. In the community, she was past president of the P.T.O of Cain Elementary, Pine Middle and Mayo High Schools. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Chapter No. 339 Order of Eastern Star and served as past matron. She was a volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Program in this area.
Survivors include her children, Kevin N. Brown of Darlington, Debra W. (Louis) Santiago, Anthony (Eva) Brown of Virginia Beach, Va., James P. (Shelby) Brown III of Tampa, Fla., Whitley (Julene) Brown, William (Tina) Wynn of Philadelphia, Pa., John (Parthenia) Thompson of McKinney, Va., Rosetta Brown, Eugene Thompson, both of Wilmington, Del., Resse Brown and Randolph Brown, both of Lugoff, Rufus Thompson of Lawrenceville, Va., and Chester Thompson of Virginia, Rosa Allen of Richmond, Va., Francis Brown Thomas of Florence; a host of grandchildren and great–grandchildren; brother and sister in–law, Bennie Brown Sr. of Darlington and Rosa Brown of Hampton, Va.
FLOYD HUNT
Memorial services for Floyd Myrtle Hunt, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Sullivan will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.
Mr. Hunt, widower of Ucile Tolson Hunt, died Saturday, March 13, 2004. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Ben Tillman and Lillie Davis Hunt. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II and was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. for 30 years and was retired from Chrysler with 16 years of service.
Surviving are his son and daughter–in–law, Sidney and Vicki Hunt of McCormick; grandchildren, Venita J. Klise, Dawn Thompson, Rick Klimczak; eight great–grandchildren; one great–great–grandchild.
JIMMY LEE McFARLAND
Memorial services for Jimmy Lee McFarland, 79, will be held Monday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Harold L. and Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel, conducted by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Mr. McFarland was born in Darlington County to the late Townsend and Leida Young McFarland Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Margaree McFarland of Hartsville; three daughters, Cheryl Sturban and Sharon Silvers, both of Waterbury, Conn., and Lisa Morgan of Washington, D.C.; three step–sons, Willie (Ruby) Dowdy of Teaneck, N.J., Johnny (Mary Ester) Dowdy Sr. and James Dowdy Sr., both of Hartsville; five brothers, Cary (Mabel) Turner of Hartsville, Tommy (Helen) McFarland of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jerome (Laura) McFarland of Washington, D.C., Baron (Linda) McFarland of Largo, Md., and James (Catherine) McFarland of Charleston; six grandchildren; nine step–grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.
ROBERT B. McLENDON
BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Robert B. (R.B.) McLendon, 72, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Hartsville Advent Christian Church with the Revs. Charles McLendon, Wayne Lucas and Hazel Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Grantham cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.
R. B. was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Wheeler W. McLendon Sr. and Bertha Grantham McLendon. He retired from Chick–A–Ray Poultry, was a member of Hartsville Advent Christian Church, Woodmen of the World, a Mason and a veteran of the Korean War. His greatest enjoyment was sharing his life with his family, friends, his garden, and he enjoyed horseback riding.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Middleton McLendon of Bishopville; daughters, Freda (John) Bradshaw and Zonnie (Ronnie) House, all of Bishopville; son, Robert Wallace and wife, Windy MdLendon of Hartsville; brother, Carroll (Buddy) McLendon of McBee; sisters, Sarah Henderson of Winter Haven, Fla., and Carolyn DiSalvatore of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, J. R. and Joshua Bradshaw, Alison and Sara Houser, all of Bishopville, and Kevin Schaefer of Hartsville.

ELZY RAE LINTON
CHESTERFIELD — Graveside services for Elzy Ray Melton Linton, 71, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Oakland Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Linton, wife of Charles Linsie Linton, died Tuesday, March 16. She was born in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late Floyd Wilbur and Ruby Elzy Burr Melton. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Floyd Melton and Bobby Melton.
Survivors are her husband of 56 years of the home; one son, Johnny Linton of Chesterfield; two daughters, Shirley L. Burr of Hartsville and Debra Linton of Chesterfield; two brothers, the Rev. Larry D. Melton and the Rev. Lonnie Wayne Melton, both of Chesterfield; one sister, Betty M. Odom of Chesterfield; one granddaughter, Denise (Robert) Barefoot and one great–granddaughter, Hunter Barefoot, both of Hartsville.
