PATRICK — Funeral services for Peggy Hall Sellers, 72, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in the chapel of Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield. Burial was in White Oat Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Mrs. Sellers, wife of the late Otis A. Sellers, died Thursday, Feb. 26. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Hall. She was a retired textile employee. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Gordon Hall and three sisters, Agnes Boan, Sudie Bell Sam Felkel and Barbara Ann Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie (Dianne) Sellers of Florence and Gregory Sellers of Patrick; two daughters, Gail (Fred) Faulkenberry of Chesterfield and Lisa (Franklin) Hancock of Mt. Croghan; three brothers, Roger, Charles and Gerald Hall of Hartsville; two sisters, Carolyn L. Millsap of Cottageville and Annette H. Burkett of Hartsville; and also six grandchidlren and four great–grandchildren.
L. L. TRULUCK
LAMAR — Funeral services for Lucius Lamar L.L. Truluck, 83, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Lamar, with interment following in Lamar cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar.
Mr. Truluck died Saturday, March 28, in a local nursing home. He was born in Florence County, son of the late Lucius L. and Mahala Wilson Truluck Sr. and was married
to the late Nelle Windham. He was retired from S.C. State Security Commission and was a member of Clemson's IPTAY, the Lamar Civitan Club and a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter and son–in–law, Pat T. (Don) James of Camden; three granddaughters and their spouses, Stacey (Jeff) Sullivan of Clayton, N.C., Sharon (Scott) Schuster and Vicky (Andy) Burger, all of Charlotte, N.C.; and seven great–grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Truluck was preceded in death by a son, Toby L. Truluck.

CLYDE WARD
LAMAR — Funeral services for Clyde Lawrence Ward Sr., 85, were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2004, at Fair Hope Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Ward died Saturday, Feb. 28, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Franklin Durant and Laura McLellan Ward. He was a retired game warden and farmer. He was a member of SCLEO and of Fair Hope Church.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Casper Ward of the home; his son, Clyde C.L. (Kim) Ward Jr. of Lamar; his daughter, Laura W. Weatherford of Darlington; two step–sons, Johnny Bell of Darlington and Richard C. Bell of Lamar; a step–daughter, Debra B. Culpepper of Darlington; 12 grandchildren; 11 great–grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Edens Ward, an infant son, two brothers and two sisters.
KELVIN S. DOUGLAS
Mr. Kevin Stefan Douglas of 418 Russell Road died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville. The Douglas family will receive visitors at the residence of his parents, Charles and Patricia Douglas, 418 Russell Road.
DAVID TUCKER
Graveside services for David Wilbur Tucker, 70, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27, 2004, at Shamrock Baptist Church cemetery. The Revs. Alvin Rogers and Wayne Windham will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Tucker died Tuesday, Feb. 24. Born in Richmond, Va., he was a son of the late Claude and Maude Faukner Tucker. He was a Veteran in the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea, and retired from Mozingo's Liquor Store.
Surviving are his son and daughter–in–law, David Earl and Janet Tucker of Hartsville; daughter, Pam T. Wallace of Hartsville; sister, Annie Tucker of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; special friend, Phyllis M. Tucker of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Langley Tucker.
LEO HAWKINS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for the Rev. Dr. Leo Franklin Hawkins, 81, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in the chapel of Bethea Baptist Home with interment following in Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Dr. Hawkins died Friday, Feb. 20. He was born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., a son of the late Joseph Franklin and Annie Mae Lay Hawkins. He was married
to the late Willie Geneva (Jean) Witherspoon Hawkins. He received his BA degree from Wake Forest University, his Master of Divinity from Yale University School and his Ed. D. from North Carolina State University. He was a retired human development specialist at North Carolina State University and member of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C.
Surviving are a son, L. Franklin Hawkins Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Nancy B. Bailey of Florence and Laura (Randy) Teague of Madisonville, Ky.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie G. Hawkins of Newton, N.C., and Harold L. Hawkins of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Lenora (Arnold) Herpy of Mento, Ohio, and Eula Faye Davis of Gastonia, N.C.
Memorials are suggested to the ETV Endowment Fund of SC, 401 Kennedy Street, Suite B–1, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
LILLIE MAE MOORE
DARLINGTON — Graveside services for Lillie Mae Moore were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Mechanicsville Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Frankie Tanner and directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Moore died Saturday, Feb. 21, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Claude and Annie Mae Moody. She was married
to the late Eugene D. Purvis and the late S. J. (Bud) Moore. She was a faithful member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Donald (Frances) Purvis of Florence; six daughters, Betty (Herbert) McGee of Sumter, Frances (George) Gaydon of Wachula, Fla., Shirley (Lavern) Johnson of Hartsville, Patty Huntley (Ron) Speder and Gladys (Pete) Sturgeon, both of Darlington, and Judy Delarmo of Florence; two brothers, Carl G. (Vivian) Moody, and Lavern (Mary) Moody, both of Darlington; one sister, Carolyn (Arthur) Gandy of Darlington; 21 grandchildren; 29 great–grandchildren and four great–great–grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 2364 Cashua Ferry Road, Darlington, SC 29532.
CLAYTON 'BUCK' KING
Funeral services for Clayton H. Buck King, 68, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at New Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Jeffords officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. King died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Jessie Ray and Sarah Ann Dixon King. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church, a member of the Deacon Board, and retired as the owner and operator of King's Garage.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Hoffman King of Hartsville; sons and daughters–in–law, Charles Buckwheat and Patricia King, Joe Hoffman and Janice Davis, David Hoffman, all of Hartsville; sisters, Annie Sanders of Hartsville, Johnnie Hall of Columbia; grandsons, Brad King and Chad King, both of Hartsville; step–grandchildren, Stacy C. Seymour and Machelle Riley.
JOHN NORWOOD
Funeral services for John Alexander Norwood, 77, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Gulledge and Rod Howard officiating. Burial followed in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 2316 Faith Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Norwood died Thursday, Feb. 19. Born in Florence, he was a son of the late John Alexander and Pearl Parnell Norwood. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Greta Newsom Norwood of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Jonathan Wade and Susanne Norwood of Greenville; daughter and son–in–law, Johnnie Norwood and the Rev. John Doubles of Summerton; grandchildren, William Powell of Charleston, Sarah Teuton of Hartsville, Michael Teuton and John Hunter Teuton, all of Hartsville, Preston Norwood of Greenville and Alexandra Doubles of Summerton.
MOLLIE B. SIMMONS
Graveside services for Mollie Veselak Brodie Simmons, 66, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Magnolia cemetery with the Rev. Dr. William Curtis officiating and directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Florence Cornerstone Baptist Church, 237 Warley St., Florence, SC 29501, or Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
Mrs. Simmons, widow of her first husband, George W. Brodie, and her second husband, Gerald J. Simmons, died Saturday, Feb 14. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Ruby Davis Veselak and the late Rudolph Anthony Veselak. She was a member of Florence Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was a very devoted Christian and was an active outreach to others. She taught Sunday school and was in charge of the Acteens at North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.
Surviving are her sons, Jerry Simmons of West Palm Beach, Fla., Chris Simmons of Washington, D.C., Kevin Simmons of Fairfax, Va., Scott Simmons of Gaithersburg, Md., Kelly Simmons of Fairfax, Va., and Andy Brodie of Florence.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Veselak.
CLARENCE FREEMAN
Funeral services for Clarence Douglas Weazer Freeman, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Galloway officiating. Burial followed in Society Hill LDS cemetery.
Mr. Freeman died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Clarence Allen and Della Edwards Freeman.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. He was a loving, caring, considerate and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and had a passion for the outdoors, a love and loyalty for his work and was a true NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan. Memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Medical Center, Haile & Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Surviving are his spouse of 43 years, Ruth Pierce Freeman; son and daughter–in–law, Doug and Rose Freeman of Camden; daughter and son–in–law, Laura and Mike Wall of Fountain Inn; brothers, Delmas Freeman, Carrol Freeman and Ronnie Freeman, all of Society Hill; sisters, Hallie F. McNatt of Bishopville, June F. Walters, Faye F. Howle both of Society Hill, Doris F. Flurry of Florence, Nancy F. Dixon of Camden and Linda F. Howle of Hartsville; two special sisters–in–law, Vonzeal Freeman and Marvelle Hancock; a special niece, Teresa Ham; grandchildren Candice Freeman, Chris Freeman, Chris Wall and J.T. Wall.
MAZZALEE K. LARGE
Graveside services for Mazzalee Keith Large, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 25, 2004, at Wesley Chapel cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the graveside.
Mrs. Large died Monday, Feb. 23. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Luther Y. and Mamie Gilbert Keith. She was retired from Sonoco Products Company and was a member of the Old Timers Club.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
MARY I. INGLES
A memorial services for Mary Irene Ingles, 73, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Florence. There will be a private entombment at Mount Hope Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans Street, VTC–009, Florence, SC 29506.
Mrs. Ingles died Sunday, Feb. 22, in Florence.
She is survived by her husband, John Duke; daughters, Dr. Louise Wallace and Mrs. Michele Thiret, both of Columbia; son, Robert Will of Baldwinville, Mass.; sister, Helen Cruickshank of Westland, Mich., and grandsons, John Wallace and Ryan Thiret.
