J. D. Mason, 83, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

LOUISE H. RADCLIFF
BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Louise Hall Radcliff, 82, will be held today, May 12, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Lucknow Baptist Church, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Radcliff died Monday, May 10. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Calvin and Elizabeth Hopkins Hall. She was a member of the Lucknow Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Annette Corbett of Red Hill, Martha Warr of Hartsville, Kathleen Haselden of Turkey Creek, Vera Baker of Bishopville, Deanna Smith of Sumter; sons, Robert of Turkey Creek, Alva of Lucknow, Faubus of Salisbury, Ben, Camden and Steve Radcliff, Lucknow; 22 grandchildren and 17 great –grandchildren.
ELAINE SAMUEL
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Elaine Samuel, 44, were held at 12 noon Monday, May 10, 2004, at Round O Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. M. A. McMillan Sr., pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Ms. Samuel died Thursday, May 5, in a Hartsville hospital after an illness. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of Edward Samuel Sr. and the late Bernetha Williamson Poole. She was a graduate of Mayo High School Class of 1978 and Chris Logan School of Cosmetology. She was a self–employed cosmetologist and a cosmetic independent sales representative. Ms. Samuel was associated with the Darlington County Club. She was a longtime member of Round O Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Jullian Alaine Pierce of the home; her father, Edward Samuel Sr. of Darlington; five sisters, Reatha (Alonzo) Taylor, Vivian Muldrow, Berneatha Poole, Mamie (Glenn) Tedder, all of Darlington, and Gloria Poole of Columbia; two brothers, Melvin (Brenda) Poole of Rock Hill and Edward (Donnah) Samuel Jr. of Garland, Texas; a special aunt, Vivian Williamson of Darlington; other aunts and uncles; two special nieces, Sharon Poole–Mangum of Raleigh, N.C., and LeKescha Poole of Timmonsville; several other nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
KATHRYN SHIRLEY
Funeral services for Kathryn Watson Shirley, 69, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at Hebron United Methodist Church with the Rev. DeVere Williams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Hebron United Methodist Church, c/o Cecil Clanton, 242 Woodham Rd., Bishopville, SC 29010.
Mrs. Shirley died Friday, May 7, 2004. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late D. P. and Louise Bryant Watson. She worked for 27 years in the gift shop at Byerly Hospital and Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are her husband, Marvin Lee Shirley of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Kathy and Jim McGee of Florence, Vanessa and Fred Wilhelm of Hartsville; sister, Betty Raines of Florence; brothers, Dan Watson of Darlington, Charles Watson of North Myrtle Beach; and grandchildren, Lewis Wilhelm, Savannah Wilhelm and James McGee IV.
FRANKLIN JORDAN, JR.
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Oscar Franklin Jordan Jr., 60, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Tilly Swamp Baptist Church cemetery in Conway, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Jordan died Thursday, May 6, at the Veteran's Hospital in Charleston. He was born in Horry County, son of Mae Rabon Jordan and the late Oscar Franklin Jordan Sr. He served his country with the United States Army. He was a certified public accountant and was employed with Clanton's Auto Auction for more than 20 years. Mr. Jordan was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Florence are two sons, Brad Franklin Jordan and Thomas Fazende Jordan, both of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Will Jordan of Rock Hill; and one sister, Chris Jordan of Lynchburg.
Memorials are suggested to SC Chapter of Alzheimer's Disease, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.
ODELL PROSSER
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for J. Odell Prosser, 92, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Prosser died Wednesday morning, May 5, in a local nursing home. He was born in Florence County, son of the late James Monroe and Lula Jones Prosser. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Prosser was a member of First Baptist Church of Darlington where he served as assistant treasurer for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Joel (Patricia) Prosser of Florence, Olin (Muffet) Sansbury Jr. of Spartanburg; two daughters, Nancy (Warren) S. Baker of Florence, Barbara C. Spencer of Palm Coast, Fla.; one brother, James Monroe (Betty) Prosser Jr. of Sumter; a sister, Ruth P. (John) James of Manning; nine grandchildren and four great–grandchildren; a special friend, Myrtie Ayers.
Mr. Prosser was preceded in death by three spouses; Annie Mae Sansbury Prosser, Jeanette Cullum Prosser and Gladys Sansbury Prosser; a son, Larry Cullum; two brothers, Willie and Carl Prosser; and a sister, Letha P. Lloyd.

Funeral services for Albert Wright, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Living Church of Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith in McBee, with Bishop Bennie James officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Wright died Tuesday, May 4, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Ed and Francis Wright. He received his education in the Lancaster County public school system.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Wright of the home; two daughters, Carol Wright and Margaret Wright, both of McBee; five sons, Charles (Janie) Wright of McBee, Ralph (Evelyn) Wright of Baltimore, Md., Larry (Vernell) Wright of Hyattsville, Md., Stanley (Loretta) Wright of Jefferson and Ulysses Wright of Lancaster; five sisters, Addie Mae (James) Dewitt, Frances Wright, Emma Richardson, all of McBee, Janie Ham and Myrlee Ham, both of Hastings, Fla.; five brothers, James (Annie) Wright and Richard (Patricia) Wright, Laverne (Asalee) Wright and Roy Wright, all of McBee, and Robert (Sarah) Wright of Lancaster; 34 grandchildren; 24 great–grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.
HARRY THOMAS
Harry Thomas, 58, died Thursday, May 6, at his residence after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 555 S. Sixth St., Hartsville.
JAMES GILBERT
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for James Jake Gilbert, 58, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, in Tabernacle Holiness Church with Bishop C. L. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Gilbert died Saturday, May 1, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Glover Sr. and Beulah Brown Gilbert.
He attended the Darlington County public schools. He lived in Yonkers, N.Y., briefly before returning to Darlington. He was employed with the James and James Farm for 30 years. He was married
to the former Rosezenia Carter.
Survivors include four children, Christopher Gilbert, James Gilbert, Feneika Gilbert, all of Florida, and Sam Gilbert of Savannah, Ga.; a step–daughter, Veronica Johnson of Florence; 10 brothers and sisters, Roland (Mattie Mae) Gilbert, Minnie (James) Jeffery, Annie (Louis) Pauley, Alvin Gilbert, all of Darlington, Allen (Dinah) Gilbert of Hartsville, Willie (Francis Mae) Gilbert of Mullins, Johnny Gilbert of Florence, Jimmy (Corrie) Gilbert of Olanta, Glover (Willie Mae) Gilbert Jr., of Doulgas, Ga., Ret. Sgt. James (Sunett) Gilbert of Fayetteville, N.C.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; his best friend, Robert Doc Myers.
ALICE PRYOR
Funeral services for Alice Pryor, 61, will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 7, 2004, at Galilee Baptist Church in McBee with the Rev. Ronnie Blakeney officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pryor died Friday, April 30, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of Elizza Ann Bennette Reed and the late Murray Jenkins. She was educated in the Lee County public school systems and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Pryor and Lakeisha Atkinson; two sons, William E. Pryor and Kevin Pryor; her mother, Elizza Anne Reed; one brother, Willie Jenkins, all of McBee; five grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
LUCILLE MYERS
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Myers were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville.
Mrs. Myers died on Sunday, May 2, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 2, 1914, a daughter of Earl and Theo (Williams) Bull. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She was married
to the late John Wesley Myers. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member and president of Choir No. 2 for 45 years. She was a member of the Missionary Society and she loved to attend Sunday School. Lucille was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars Mt. Rona Chapter No. 133.
She is survived by her two sisters, Annie McFadden of Wilmington, N.C., and Sadie Marcus of Williamston, N.C.; adopted daughter, Martha Abrams of Baltimore, Md.; and many other relatives and very dear friends.
MARGUERITE BENJAMIN
Funeral services for Stella Marguerite Benjamin, 94, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bob Cline officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Bethea Baptist Home, 157 Home Ave., Darlington, SC 29532.
Ms. Benjamin died Tuesday, May 4, 2004. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late John Chesley and Mamie Stanley Benjamin. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 81 years. She retired from J. L. Coker & Co. in 1976, moved to the Bethea Baptist Home and was a member of the Eastern Star. She took good care of the Benjamin clan.
Surviving are her sister, Betty Benjamin Ackermann of Houston, Texas; brother, Ludy T. Benjamin of Hattiesburg, Miss.; numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley Benjamin and J. C. Benjamin, and her sisters, Irene Benjamin Hines, Eunice Benjamin, Mildred Hunter and Jacquelyn Jackie Andrews.

Graveside services for Sybil Lunn Langston, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 7, 2004, at Magnolia cemetery. The Rev. Mark Bowers will officiate, and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Susan B. Komen Cancer Foundation, Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265–0309.
Mrs. Langston, widow of Ed Langston, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Vaughn and Blanche Reaves Lunn. She was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School class. She graduated from Montreat College and was previously employed as a decorator with Hartsville Furniture Galleries.
Surviving are her son and daughter–in–law, William E. Bill and Linda Langston of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Robert James Lunn of Hartsville, John Thomas Lunn of Camden; stepsister, Brenda Phillips of Lamar; granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Langston. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Cleveland Lunn.
RUTH TIDWELL
Funeral services for Ruth Orthie O'Neil Tidwell, 52, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jennings O'Neil officiated, with burial in the New Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Tidwell died Tuesday, May 4. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Rax and Cannie Chapman O'Neil. She was a loving wife and a good mother.
Surviving are her husband, Joe Charles Tidwell of Hartsville; daughter and son–in–law, Cannie Darlene and Dennis Morris of Ladson; sister and brother–in–law, Cannie Geraldine and Scott Nagle of Port Deposit, Md.; brother and sister–in–law, Jennings R. and Florence O'Neil of Winston–Salem, N.C.; grandchildren, Cannie Brooke Morris and Dennis Lee Morris.
ALICE CHANDLER
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Alice Simon Chandler were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment followed in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler died Wednesday, April 28, at Summit Place in Simpsonville. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Kenhon and Eva Saleeby Simon. She was married
to the late Dan F. Chandler Jr. She was a retired secretary and had formerly lived in Newberry. Mrs. Chandler was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter–in–law, Dan and Nita Chandler III of Columbia; daughter and son–in–law, Cherry C. and Francis Bell of Williamston; five grandchildren and three great–grandchildren; one brother, Shadie Simon of Waukegan, Ill.; and four sisters, Julia Hoag of San Jose, Calif., Adele Osman of Cape Coral, Fla., Rebecca Donahue of Des Moines, Iowa, and Katherine Clawson of Richburg.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Simon and two brothers, Fred Simon and Eli Simon.
