Annie Barrow Belue, 103, of 106 Sonoco Road, widow of L. O. Belue, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Belue was born in Workman on Jan. 18, 1900; a daughter of the late James Lellan and Ila Aileen McClam Barrow. She was a retired Union County school teacher, having taught in the Jonesville area schools. Mrs. Belue was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School since 1932.
Surviving are two sons, Harvey Belue and Henry Belue of Union; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Foster of Greenville and Hazel Barrow of Spartanburg; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Belue was predeceased by a son, Richard Belue.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fairforest Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Stover and the Rev. Robert Patterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Ronnie Belue, Lowell Belue, Jerry Belue, Mark Belue, Joshua Belue, Christopher Belue, Joe Moody and Anthony Finney.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Adams, Don Bolton, Paul Sanders, Robert Puckett, Charles Foster, Dr. Vivian Clark, Tommy and Susan Henderson, Bill and Irene Brooks, Pearl Crocker and Linda Medford. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 352, Newberry, S.C. 29108-0352 or to Union County Meals on Wheels Program, c/o Monte Lancaster, c/o Arthur State Bank, Union, S.C. 29379. Dolly M. Clyburn
CHARLESTON Dolly Maddox Clyburn, 90, widow of Stewart Douglas Clyburn, a life-long resident of Union, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at the Bishop-Gadsden Retirement Home in Charleston after a long illness. Mrs. Clyburn was born in Union, Sept. 19, 1913, a daughter of the late Dr. Theodore Maddox and Mary Leonard Murphy Maddox. She was a graduate of Union High School, class of 1930, and received her bachelor of science degree from Queen's College in Charlotte in 1934.
Mrs. Clyburn was a teacher and administrator, retiring after 45 years with the Union County School System, having taught in the Spartanburg and Chester counties school systems. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity where she had served as secretary of the church and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Mary Stewart Clyburn and Hay Fant Sparks Jr., Dolly Clyburn and John Gault, all of Mt. Pleasant; a son and his wife, Theodore Douglas and Sylvia Clyburn of Spartanburg; 10 grandchildren, Mary Catherine Streetman, Jennifer Stewart Clyburn, Hay Fant Sparks III, Stewart Douglas Sparks, Douglas Benjamin Burrell, Robert Douglas Clyburn, Michael Douglas Clyburn, Brian David Clyburn, William Porter Tiller Jr., James Anthony Streetman and David Stewart Burrell; four great-grandchildren, George Murphy Streetman, Andrew Hay Streetman, Mary Victoria Streetman and Ian Maddox Burrell; and two nephews, James Maddox of Winchester, Va., and Theodore Maddox Jr. of Baltimore, Md.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity by Father Edward Meeks and the Right Rev. William A. Beckham. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Clyburn's grandsons served as active pallbearers with David Stewart Burrell serving as the crucifier. The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends Sunday night. Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, P.O. Box 243, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Jaderick Fincher, 4, of 305 Gage Ave., died at his home Sunday, May 23, 2004. The family is at the home, 305 Gage Ave. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Union Community Funeral Home.
Abner McAlister
Abner McAlister, 81, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort. He was a native of Ridgeland. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Bostick Funeral Home of Ridgeland.
Fannie Mae Spears
Fannie Mae Spears, 77, formerly of 191 Robinson Farm Road, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Inman Health Care. Ms. Spears, a daughter of the late Coleman and Elnora Brown Spears, was born on Jan. 16, 1927 in Union County. She was a member of Emmanuel Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Sadie Lucille Spears of Spartanburg and Lenora Jeffries of Jonesville; two brothers, James C. Spears Sr. of Spartanburg and Lee Robert Spears of Jonesville; two sisters-in-law, Willie Lee Spears and Corrie Spears; three nephews reared in the home, Jimmy D. Spears of Jonesville, Lee Robert Spears Jr of Union and R. Jamal Spears of Spartanburg; three nieces reared in the home, Sherrie L. Spears, Charmine L. Spears and Olympia D. Spears, all of Spartanburg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 7 until 8 at the Gibson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Claude Williams Jr.
Claude (Bookie) Williams Jr. of 237 Beltline Road, died at his residence Sunday, May 23, 2004. Mr. Williams was born April 9, 1932, in Union County, a son of the late Claude Williams Sr. and Pearline Suber Williams. He attended Union County schools and was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church and was a retired laborer.
Surviving are two daughters, Pearline Williams of York and Mary Joan Montgomery of the home; two grandsons, Antonio Williams of Rock Hill and Carlos Williams of York; and a great granddaughter, AÕnylah L. Williams of Rock Hill. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Maple Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Dawkins Bristow
Mary Dawkins Bristow, 843-B, Farmhurst Dr., Charlotte, N.C., died Thursday, May 22, 2003, after an extended illness. Mrs. Bristow was born Dec. 25, 1947, in Union County, the daughter of Lillie Ruth Rice and the late Monroe Rice Sr. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Union, where she served on the Gospel and Senior Choir. She was employed by Carolina Contractors of Charlotte.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie Bristow; a son, Darryl (Cynthia) Dawkins; a daughter, Lori (Joseph) Knox; three grandchildren, Antonia, Andrea and Marguel all of Charlotte; three sisters, Betty Sims of Union, Ruth A. (Terry) Worthy of Whitmire and Ernestine (Larry) Peake of Charlotte; one brother, Frank (Linda) Rice of Charlotte, one godson, Sam Smalls of Charlotte and her mother-in-law, Addie Roseboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Union. Burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at the residence of Lillie Ruth Rice, Lake View Gardens, Apt. 2D. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Helen B. Castles
NORFOLK, Va. Helen B. Castles, 85, of the 1500 block of Harmon Avenue, died Saturday, May 24, 2003. Formerly of Norman Avenue, she was the former organist of Bayview Baptist Church for over 30 years, and most recently the organist for Brentwood Baptist Church for over 20 years. She shared her gift of music with many pupils who she taught in her home for many years. She was the widow of Brice G. Castles Sr.
She is survived by a daughter, Joann Harper of Norfolk; two sons, Brice G. Castles Jr. of Richmond, Va., and David Castles and his wife Dempress, of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Ann, Brian, John, Mike, Wayne, Matthew, and Chris, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Jerry Byars of Norfolk; a sister, Hope Hill of Union; numerous nieces and nephews and two very special friends, Martha McCormick and Barbara Otto.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Brentwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Newman and the Rev. John D. Sykes Sr.. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brentwood Baptist Church, 8026 Old Ocean View Ave., Norfolk, Va., 23518. Graham Funeral Home of Norfolk has charge of arrangements. Nellie E. Chaney
Nellie Epps Chaney, 69, widow of Charles L. Chaney of 1127 Lakeside Drive, died Sunday May 25, 2003, at the Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care after a brief illness. Mrs. Chaney was born in Union on March 20, 1934, a daughter of the late Jesse and Rose Howell Epps. She was former owner and operator of Chaney's Grocery Store and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Chaney of Union; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Robin Chaney of Union; three sisters, Ruby E. Malpass of Orangeburg, Bessie E. West and Eva Delle Stepp, both of Union; a brother, James Arthur Epps of Union; and a granddaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Hal Phillips of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Larry Patterson. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jimbo Thomas, Toney Epps, Jimmy Stepp, Ronnie Small, Wayne Gordon and Sammy Smith.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. Memorials may be made to Covenant Baptist Church, 100 Medical Science Dr., Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home, 1127 Lakeside Drive. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Christal O'Shields
Christal O'Shields, 80, of 838 Meansville Road, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 5:25 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Miss O'Shields was born in Union on Sept. 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Ellis and Pauline Smith O'Shields. She was a member of the Putman Baptist Church and the Willing Worker's Sunday School Class. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. and was also a retired Wal-Mart Associate.
Surviving are a sister, Lena O. Ford of Union; two nieces, Mrs. Bruce (Linda) Lawson and Mrs. Harold (Elaine) Gregory, both of Buffalo; five great-nephews, Brian Lawson of Union, Chad and Stacy Lawson, Bard and Erica Lawson, Heath and Chapel Lawson and Neil Gregory, all of Buffalo; a great-great-niece, Blayke Lawson of Buffalo.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman and the Rev. Chad Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her sister, Lena Ford, 722 North Duncan By-Pass. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Charles E. Perry
Charles Edmund Perry Sr., 28, husband of Shannon White Perry of 205 Webber Lake Road, died Sunday morning, May 25, 2003 in Cobb County, Ga., from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Perry was born in Millington, Tenn., on April 29, 1975, a son of Kurt Edmund Perry of Florida and Linda Fralick Clemenz of Lexington. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and attended York Tech. Mr. Perry was an IT Systems Engineer with Conso Products and the designer and owner of SCFY body.Com Web site.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are: a son, Charles Edmund Perry Jr., of the home; three sisters, Shana Wentz of Columbia; Victoria Van Sickle of Lexington and Katie Perry of Florida; two brothers, William B. Van Sickle of Lexington and Thomas Perry of Florida and his maternal grandmother, Ann Gregory Fralick of Lexington.
Funeral services will be held at3 p.m. Wednesday at the Lockhart First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill and the Rev. Marc Williamson. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home, 205 Webber Lake Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
