TIMMONSVILLE — Funeral services for Audrey O. Norris, 82, will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 25, 2004, at Lake Swamp Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery, directed by Layton–Anderson Funeral Home.
Mr. Norris died Tuesday, June 22, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Matthew and Bannie Jordan Norris. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer and a tobacco inspector from 1947 to 1977 with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 1105.
Surviving are his wife, Isabel Windham Norris; two sons, Rex (Jean) Norris of Columbia and Tim (Angie) Norris of Timmonsville; a daughter, Denise (George) Walden of Hartsville; a sister, Lucille Williams of Poquoson, Va.; and eight grandchildren, Leigh Norris, Lane Norris, Matthew Norris, Lesleigh Norris, Trevor Norris, Chad Walden, Will Walden and Wendi Walden. He was predeceased by four sisters, Ruby Weaver, Felment Smith, Addie Lea Guest and Lila Watford.

ALICE C. BERARDI
DESTIN, Fla. — Funeral services for Alice Carter Berardi, 72, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Joey Rogers officiating. Interment will follow the services in the Destin Memorial cemetery in Destin, Fla. Floral tributes will be accepted at the funeral home. In regards to a family member's health, it is requested that personal fragrances be refrained from being worn during visitation and funeral services.
Mrs. Berardi died Thursday, June 22, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She was born in Darlington on July 15, 1931, to Robert Leslie and Mary Lucille Hicks Carter and resided in the Northwest Florida area since 1969, moving there from Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Berardi was a member of the Elkettes No. 1795.
Survivors include her husband, Michael E. Berardi of Destin, Fla.; son and daughter–in–law, Richard and Mary Ann Stokes of Huntsville, Ala.; brother, Jimmy Carter of Hartsville; sister, Mildred Hughes of Charleston; eight grandchildren and 10 great–grandchildren.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of the McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave., Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
ELMA COLEMAN
Funeral services for Elma McQuaig Coleman, 77, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Boswell and Jody Winn officiating. Burial followed in Mechanicsville Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman, widow of Chester Coleman, died Saturday, June 19. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Clem Edward and Mamie Moody McQuaig Sr. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. The family extends a special thanks to Elma's care givers.
Surviving are her sister, Edna Melton, and her brother, Ed McQuaig, both of Hartsville.
OLETA WINBURN
Graveside services for Oleta Funderburk Winburn, 94, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Magnolia cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey, the Rev. Dr. Bob Cline and the Rev. Buddy Amerson officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Winburn, widow of Jesse C. Winburn, died Friday, June 18, 2004. Born in Pageland, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Sloan Jones Funderburk. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 60 years. She taught school for 40 years at Green Hill, Ousleydale, St. David's and Hartsville Junior High School.
Surviving are her sons and daughter–in–law, H. J. Winburn, Arlon Mac and Diane Winburn, and Harold Winburn, all of Hartsville; sister, Azilee Byrd of Pageland; brothers, Harold Funderburk of Pageland, Hampton Funderburk of Monroe, N.C.; grandchildren, Bert Winburn, Doug Winburn, Hal Winburn; great–grandchildren, Andrew Winburn, Hunter Wade Winburn and Jake Steen.
RUBY VESELAK
Funeral services for Ruby Davis Veselak, 94, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Glenn Lewis officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery.
Mrs. Veselak, widow of Rudolph Veselak, died Friday, June 18. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Molly Hatchell Davis. She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter–in–law, Marianne Veselak of Columbia; grandson and spouse, Andy and Leslie Brodie of Florence.
GENERAL ROBINSON
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for General Old Man Robinson of Darlington were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Mt. Rona Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Matthew Robinson, pastor, and the Rev. B. L. Lattaker officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Robinson died Tuesday, June 15, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Finnie and Alice McCoy Robinson. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public school and attended Red Hill Baptist Church. He worked as a farmer with the T. C. Coxe Farms.
Survivors include his companion, Mrs. Carrie Brown of the home; six children, Harold Walker, Evelyn (Rancy) Gee, both of Society Hill, Geraldine (Donald) Bacote, Illinois Brown, Catherine Walker, all of Darlington, and Viola Walker of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Mittie M. McCall, Mrs. Aileen (Cleveland) Hudson and Mrs. Helen (Albert) Ham, all of Darlington; three brothers, Jeff Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sammie (Gloria) Jones of Society Hill and Claude Jones of Darlington; 15 grandchildren; a special grandson, Montana Walker; 24 great–grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of cousins.
A daughter, Patricia White, and a brother, Charlie Robinson, preceded him in death.
REV. RUSSEL LARYMORE
JAMES ISLAND — Funeral services for the Rev. Russell W. Larymore were held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, in West Ashley Church of God. Interment was in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, directed by J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, Charleston.
The Rev. Larymore, husband of Edna Mar Larymore, died Monday, June 14. He was born June 22, 1929, in Darlington, the son of Louis L. Larymore and Lizzie Hicks Larymore. He was an evangelist with the Church of God and a retired electrician at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his wife of James Island; three daughters, Marie M. Langdale of James Island, Vickie L. (Rick) Nelson of Summerville and Sharon L. Trauernicht and Victor Campbell of James Island; one son, Timothy W. (Lisa) Larymore of James Island; two brothers, Willard and Jennings Larymore, both of Darlington; one sister, Letha Richardson of Bishopville; 13 grandchildren and six great–grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Larymore Wicker.
FRED WILTON AUMAN
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Fred Wilton Auman, 70, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Timothy Rogers. Interment followed at Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Auman died Thursday, June 17. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Fred Wilton and Sadie Goodson Auman. He graduated from St. David's Academy in Society Hill and the University of South Carolina, class of 1956. While at Carolina, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Mr. Auman was the president of Palmetto Furniture in Society Hill. He was recognized on numerous occasions by the Furniture Dealers Association for his many contributions to the industry. He was a member of the Darlington Kiwanis Club and received the Key Club Merit Award from his years of service as a Key Club advisor. He was the former chairman of the Darlington County Election Commission and former president of the Associated Club of Darlington County. Mr. Auman also served on the Pee Dee Regional Executive Committee for the Boy Scouts and the Board of Directors for the Billie Hardee Home for Boys.
Mr. Auman was a dedicated and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Charles Wesley Sunday School Class. He served his church as the chairman of the Board of Stewards, chairman of the Finance Committee and was instrumental in the building of the Sunday school building, the fellowship hall, the renovation of the church sanctuary and most recently the addition of the new youth building.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Burgess Auman of the home; one son, Chip (Patsy) Auman of Hartsville; one daughter, Lib (Robbie) Foster of Columbia; one sister, Anne (Leon) Johnson of Society Hill; seven grandchildren, Coleman, Katherine, Burgess, Marjorie Anne, Clay, Holley and Matt; and one great–grandchild, Cameron.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Youth Fund, PO Box 16, Darlington, SC 29540 or to Welsh Neck Baptist Church, 112 Church St., Society Hill, SC 29593.
JOSEPHINE JACKSON
Funeral services for Josephine Jackson, 94, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Mt. Calvary AME Church with the Rev. Willie Graves officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville.
Mrs. Jackson died Thursday, July 29, in Morrell Convalescent Center after an extended illness. Affectionately known as Jo, she was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Lee County, a daughter of the late Charlie Sanders and Mary Favor.
At an early age, Mrs. Jackson moved to the Oates Community in Darlington County. She accepted Christ and became a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She later moved to the Hartsville area and attended Centenary United Methodist Church and Centerville AME Church. In the late 1950s she joined Mt. Calvary AME Church and became actively involved as a member of the Stewardess Board, the Faithful Builders and the Women's Missionary Society, Mrs. Jackson was married
first married
to the late David Jackson and this union was blessed with two children. She later married
the late Roosevelt Jackson.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jo Jackson of Hartsville; a son, Levern Jackson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight sisters, Sarah Tucker of Bronx, N.Y., Marie Jackson of Sumter, Annie Mae Ludd of Winter Garden, Fla., Sarah Pollard of Apocca, Fla., Pertell McCloud of Rembert, Annie Bell Wilson of New York, N.Y., and Rosa Lee Jackson and Mazola White, both of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren, 13 great–grandchildrern and three great–great–grandchildren.
CARRIE ALSTON
Carrie Alston, 89 died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in a Florence hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Anne Ceasar, at 621 Evergreen Lane, Hartsville.
LOUISE WHITEHEAD
Memorial services for Louise Tucker Whitehead, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ben and Dora Gafford will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church of Hartsville or the First Presbyterian Church of Covington, Va.
Mrs. Whitehead, widow of F. David Dave Whitehead, died Friday, July 30, 2004. Born in Gloucester, Va., she was a daughter of the late Wilton Conway and Cora Griswald Tucker. She resided in Covington, Va., for 40 years and in 1986 moved to Hartsville. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Women's Sunday School class and XYZ club.
Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, David and Gloria Whitehead of Cary, N.C., John and Patty Whitehead of Hartsville; sister, Julia Smith of Culpepper, Va.; grandsons, Matthew, Brian, John, Adam and Ross Whitehead.
ELIZABETH RHINEHARDT
Graveside services for Elizabeth Detrich Rhinehardt, 90, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Manor in Florence with Chaplain Ann Ayres officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rhinehardt, widow of Wheeler A. Rhinehardt, died Saturday, July 31. Born in Kansas City, Mo., she was a daughter of the late William Leslie and Avis Perry Detrich. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and taught high school for 40 years in Lydia and Hartsville. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class. She had also been a member of the Darlington County Library Board, a charter member of the Lydia Senior Citizens Club, and a member of the Rose Trellis Garden Club. She served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are her sister, Helen Coulter of Lincoln, Calif.

BISHOPVILLE — Graveside services for Jane Beasley Duke, 83, were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery, Stokes Bridge Community with the Rev. Mrs. Duke, widow of Thomas W. Duke Sr., died Sunday, Aug. 1. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late William Boyd and Aurella Woodham Beasley. She graduated from Lander College in 1941 and taught school in Blackville, McBee and North Hartsville. She was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son and daughter–in–law, Thomas and Margaret Duke of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Francis Buster Beasley of the Stokes Bridge community; five grandchildren and 10 great–grandchildren.
KATHLEEN WALKER
Funeral services for Kathleen Walker, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 4, 2004, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with Dr. I. D. Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walker died Friday, July 30, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Robert Frazier and Alma Darling Frazier Railey. She was educated in the Darlington County public school system.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Word of Life Christian Ministries where she served as member of the Mother's Board and Prayer Team.
Surviving are one daughter, Wilma Middleton of New York; one son, Philip Pert of Kingstree; two sisters, Christine Allen of Hartsville and Nicey Delane of New York; three grandchildren; three great–grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
