Cynthia G. Warner
Union County native

SPARTANBURG Cynthia Cindy Warner, 45, of 118 Rivergate Trace, Spartanburg, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Union County, she was the daughter of Gladys Kerr Garrett of Spartanburg and Theodore Garrett Jr. of Pacolet and the wife of Charles E. Warner. She was a homemaker, The Best Mom Ever. She attended Spartanburg Community Church and University of South Carolina Spartanburg. She volunteered for Boiling Springs Schools and Spartanburg Christian Academy.

Surviving in addition to husband and parents are three sons, Adam C., Seth W. and Benjamin W. Warner of the home; two sisters, Denise G. Hollis and Pamela A. Garrett, both of Spartanburg; and a special aunt and uncle, Bernice and Greer Blackwell, of Spartanburg. Funeral services were held today at 3 p.m. at Spartanburg Community Church by the Rev. Hub Blankenship Jr. Burial was in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 1 until 2:45 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Memorials may be made to the cancer organization of your choice. The family is at the home. The J.F. Floyd Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Angela M. Wright
Gaffney native

Angela Marie Wright, 33, of Clinton, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at 2:40 p.m. in Whitten Center in Clinton. Miss Wright was born in Gaffney on Oct. 5, 1969, a daughter of Benny Wright and Wilma Haney Wright of Gaffney. She was a member of the True Gospel Life Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Rhonda W. Reynolds of Gaffney; and a brother, Jeffrey Wright of Gaffney. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the True Gospel Life Church conducted by the Rev. Charles Summer. Burial will be in Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gaffney.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her sister, Rhonda Reynolds, 233 Darby Road, Gaffney. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Claude Williams Jr.
Retired laborer

Claude (Bookie) Williams Jr. of 237 Beltline Road, died at his residence Sunday, May 23, 2004. Mr. Williams was the son of the late Claude Williams Sr. and Pearline Suber Williams. He was born on April 9, 1932 in Union County. Mr. Williams attended Union County schools and was a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church and was a retired laborer.

Surviving are two daughters, Pearline Williams of York and Mary Joan Montgomery of the home; two grandsons, Antonio Williams of Rock Hill and Carlos Williams of York; a great granddaughter, Anylah L. Williams of Rock Hill. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gibson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be at Maple Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alvalene A. Baker
Wallace Thomson Hospital retiree

Alvalene Austin Baker, 79, widow of Roy H. Baker of 119 Osborne St., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 8:40 a.m. Mrs. Baker was born in Union on March 5, 1924, a daughter of the late James Jason Austin and Kate McKeown Austin. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda B. and Eddie Hearn of Union and Cindy B. and Larry Greer of Greenville; and a daughter, Sharon Baker of the home; a sister, Marian A. English of Union; three brothers, Ralph (Doc) Austin and James Austin, both of Union and Coy Jones of Jonesville ;and five grandchildren, Brad Greer, Cody Hearn, Cristen Greer, Justin Greer and Ron Lybrand.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Joey English, Eric English, Junior Austin, Mike Austin, Darrell Austin, Mark Austin, Tim Austin and Jeff Austin.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Thursday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Dr. David Keith, Paul and Margaret Willifrod, Harold and Peggy Bright, Tony and Kathy Keasler, Colon Duckett, members of the Golden Agers of Morningside Baptist Church; and nurses and nursing assistants of Unit #2 of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 119 Osborne St. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Dawn R. Belue
Union County native

Dawn Reno Belue, 54, of 922 Linersville Road, died at her home Sunday, May 25, 2003. Ms. Belue was born in Union on April 29, 1949, a daughter of the late Thomas Earl and Linnie Nelson Reno. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Stacey Story of Wellford; and two grandchildren, Jacob Story and Alyssa Story. Ms. Belue was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Reno.

Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Joe Geddes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 3 until 4 p.m. prior to the service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Roy J. Gwinn

Roy Jefferson Gwinn, 89, widower of Mattie Sanders Gwinn of 600 N. Pinckney St. died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 11 p.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney. The family will be at the home, 600 N. Pinckney Street. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

John R. Hunter Sr.
Newberry County native

WHITMIRE John Robert (Bop) Hunter Sr., 59, husband of Gloria Jean Hunter, of Whitmire died Sunday, May 25, 2003. He was born April 28, 1944, in Newberry County, a son of the late Wallace Sr. and Esther Morgan Hunter.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, John (Tish) Hunter Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; James Anthony (Sharon) Hunter of Newberry and Rod Sartor of Spartanburg; two daughters, Nikkie Hunter of the home and Sandra (Mitch) Frye of Spartanburg; a brother, Wallace (Fannie) Hunter Jr. of Whitmire; eight grandchildren, five aunts, three uncles, his mother-in-law, Cassie Mae Boyd of Whitmire, and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Hunter was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Hunter Sr. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthews A.M.E. Zion Church in Whitmire. Burial will be in Jeter Chapel A.M.E. Church Cemetery in Carlisle. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home in Whitmire. Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Christal O'Shields
Retired from Buffalo Mill

Christal O'Shields, 80, of 838 Meansville Road, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 5:25 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Miss O'Shields was born in Union on Sept. 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Ellis and Pauline Smith O'Shields. She was a member of Putman Baptist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday School Class. She was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant. and was also a retired Wal-Mart Associate.

Surviving are a sister, Lena O. Ford of Union; two nieces, Mrs. Bruce (Linda) Lawson and Mrs. Harold (Elaine) Gregory, both of Buffalo; five great-nephews, Brian Lawson of Union, Chad and Stacy Lawson, Bard and Erica Lawson, Heath and Chapel Gregory and Neil Gregory, all of Buffalo; and a great-great-niece, Blayke Lawson of Buffalo.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman and the Rev. Chad Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Brad Lawson, Heath Gregory, Neil Gregory, Brian Lawson, Jason Ivey and Walker Smith.

The following are asked to sit in a group: Members of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class; Putman Community Senior Citizens; Putman Baptist Church bus drivers and Mrs. Little Mae Crocker. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her sister, Lena Ford, 722 North Duncan By-Pass. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Charles E. Perry
Conso employee

Charles Edmund Perry Sr., age 28, husband of Shannon White Perry of 205 Webber Lake Road, died Sunday morning, May 25, 2003, in Cobb County, Ga., from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Perry was born in Millington, Tenn., on April 29, 1975, a son of Kurt Edmund Perry of Florida and Linda Fralick Clemenz of Lexington. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and attended York Tech. Mr. Perry was a IT Systems Engineer with Conso Products and the designer and owner of SCFY body.Com Web site.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are: a son, Charles Edmund Perry Jr., of the home; three sisters, Shana Wentz of Columbia; Victoria Van Sickle of Lexington and Katie Perry of Florida; two brothers, William B. Van Sickle of Lexington and Thomas Perry of Florida and his maternal grandmother, Ann Gregory Fralick of Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lockhart First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill and the Rev. Marc Williamson. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Wes Jenkins, Casey Watkins, Bryan Clemens, Brian Burchell, Jamie Gibson, Chris Williamson, Chuck Fralick and Oren Bennett. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home, 205 Webber Lake Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Sara Fincher Scanlon
Retired executive assistant

CONWAY Sara Fincher Belue Scanlon, 79, of Garden City, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Blowing Rock Hospital Extended Care. Mrs. Scanlon was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Union, a daughter of the late James Curtis and Sanie Wilburn Fincher. She was a retired executive assistant from Windjammer Village in Garden City and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Belue Parry and husband, Steve, of Columbia and Bonnie Belue Galloway and husband, Vic, of Blowing Rock, N. C.; two sons, Chaplain Lt. Col. F. Michael Belue and wife, Elaine, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Charles Donald Belue and wife Linda of Blowing Rock. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Scott Belue, her second husband, John Francis Scanlon and a sister, Mary Fincher Adams.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway with Chaplain F. Michael Belue officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday morning at the graveside service. Goldfinch Funeral Home in Conway is in charge of arrangements.
