BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for April Danielle Shrader, 23, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial followed in St. Matthew's Methodist Church cemetery.
April died Sunday, July 4. She was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of Joseph Wayne Shrader and Carol Ann McGee Holland. She was a graduate of Lugoff–Elgin High School was was employed with Carolina Bank & Trust in Hartsville.
Surviving are her father and step–mother, Joseph Wayne and Carmen Shrader of Lugoff; her mother and step–father, Carol Ann and David Holland of Bishopville; daughter, Kaitlyn Jacobs of Bishopville; sisters, Brandy Shannon of Bishopville and Angie Melton of Camden; maternal grandmother and step–grandfather, Carolyn and Eddie Snell of Elgin; paternal grandmother, Maxine Shrader of Lugoff; step–grandparents, Bob and Marga Holland of Bishopville, Bennie and Ethel Shipley of Lugoff; nieces, Carson Shannon, McKenzie Shannon and Kendal Melton.
DEBORAH ANN GRANT
Funeral services for Deborah Ann Grant were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at St. John Holiness Church in Society Hill, the Rev. Patrick Usher, pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc., of Hartsville.
Deborah was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Elouise Bacote. As a young child, she was adopted and raised into adulthood by Huey and Annie Mae Grant. She was educated in the public schools of Washington, D.C., and graduated from St. Cecelia High School in 1977. She worked -for the Washington, D.C., Farmer's Market as a cashier for several years. After returning to Society Hill in 1997, she worked -for a local convenience store as a cashier. She attended St. John Holiness Church in Society Hill and was the watchcare of the pastor and congregation. At the time of her death she was attending Una Road World of Life Church.
Survivors in addition to her mother, Elouise Bacote Joyner of Society Hill, include a daughter, Brenda Cunningham of Washington, D.C.; a son, Bobby Williams Jr. of Landover, Md.; four sisters, Diane (David) Kelly of Darlington, Susan Bacote of Society Hill, Michelle Brown and Carolyn Brown both of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Leon Bacote, Tony Bacote and Ernest Bacote all of Hartsville; special friend, Larry Frazier of Lamar; three grandchildren.

Graveside services for Janet Johnson Chapman, 62, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2004, in Magnolia cemetery with the Rev. Ben Gafford officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Dr. Suite 311, Columbia, SC 29204 or New Market United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Chapman died Thursday, July 1, 2004. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Nettie Allen Johnson. She was a member of New Market United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son and daughter–in–law, Jeff and Bebe Chapman of Hartsville; daughter, Lori Grainger of Florence; sister, Norma Jean King of Hartsville; brothers and sisters–in–law, Craig and Sandra Johnson, Roy and Sandra Johnson, all of Hartsville; granddaughter, Amy Grainger.
GREGORY L. SPRAGUE
Graveside services for Mr. Gregory L. Sprague, 57, were held Saturday, July 3, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the LaPorte Family cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Sprague was born in Indianapolis, Ind. He was a retired Minister.
DOC HOOKER
Graveside services for Marvin Dyer Doc Hooker, 81, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, in Westview Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Darryl Bogatay officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202 or the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1909 W. BoBo Newsome Hwy., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Hooker, widower of Bobbie Jean Gilbert Hooker, died Wednesday, June 30. Born in Jewell Ridge, Va., he was a son of the late James Harvey and Dora Burress Hooker. He was owner and operator of Ruth's Drive–In for more than 50 years and was a Mason and a member of the Omar Shrine.
Surviving are his son and daughter–in–law, Marvin Doc and Dixie Avant Hooker of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Angela and Bill Stokes of Hartsville, Marvene H. Rowland of North Myrtle Beach; sister, Ann Romans of Fellsmere, Fla.; brother, Jack Hooker of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren and spouse, Robert Trey Stokes, William G. Will Stokes, Maggie and Darrel Woods, Ruth C. Rowland, Jamie A. Rowland, Justin McManus; great–grandchildren, Haley Woods, Charlie Belangia.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Harvey Hart Hooker.
ZOE EVANS
Funeral services for Zoe Elizabeth Evans, infant daughter of Paul and Tracy Reed Evans, will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 7, 2004, at the Rivers of Living Water. The Rev. Tom Gainey will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Surviving are her father and mother of Hartsville; sister, Lauren Evans of Hartsville; paternal grandmother and step–grandfather, Evelyn and Edward Ard of Effingham; paternal great–grandparents, Elvis and Mildred Gainey of Hartsville; maternal grandmother and step–grandfather, Brenda and Larry Huchel of Hartsville.
EUNICE SANCHEZ
LAMAR — Funeral services for Eunice Lucille Sanchez, 67, will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 7, 2004, at Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel. Interment will follow in Fair Hope Church cemetery.
Mrs. Sanchez died Sunday, July 4, in a local hospital. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late John Guy and Lillie Mae Atkinson Wright. She was a loving mother, and a member of Victory Chapel.
Surviving are two sons Jackie (Sharon) Smith of Idaho, Johnny (Lynn) Smith Sr. of Lama; two daughters, Peggy (Ted) Rink of Lake Norman, Bernice (Michael) Reed of Manning; three step–sons, Joseph (Debbie) Sanchez Jr. of Kings Bay, Ga., Mark (Lori) Sanchez and Kenneth Sanchez both of Mt. Pleasant; a step–daughter, Lisa (Sport) Kitchener of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren; 13 step–grandchildren; one great–grandchild; a brother, John Wright of Lamar, and two sisters, Mary Davis of Bishopville and Sarah Calivas of Lamar.
Mrs. Sanchez was preceded in death by two spouses, Joseph Sanchez Sr. and Jack Smith.

VERTIE MAE MOORE
SUMTER — Funeral services for Vertie Mae Atkinson Moore, 91, wife of Charlie L. Moore Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Sumter with the Revs. Charles Clanton and Alvin Moore officiating. Burial will be in Sumter cemetery, directed by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, July 7, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Moore died Monday, July 5, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Charlie LaVerne (Wilma) Moore Jr., of Abbeville and Gene (Theresa) Moore, of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Gail (Billy) Hutto of Hartsville and Myra (Joe) Wilt of Sumter; five grandchildren, Karen Hutto Devine, Krystal Hutto Thomas, Donna Wilt Carpenter, Timothy Moore and Julie Moore, and six great–grandchildren.

WAYNE, N.J. — Sarah Ham, 82, formerly of Hartsville, died Friday, June 2, 2004. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
MAE FRANCES JOHNSON
Funeral services for Mae Frances Johnson were held Thursday, July 1, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ in the Cypress community with Brother Silas Prescott officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Lamar.
Mrs. Johnson died on Sunday, June 27, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
She was born June 1, 1944, in Florence County, a daughter of Joseph McDowell and the late Gertie Solomon McDowell. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She was a teacher for the Darlington County Head Start program for many years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cypress where she sang in the Senior Choir and worked on the pledge committee.
Survivors include her father Joseph McDowell; her husband, James Johnson of Hartsville; four daughters, Modestine (Larry) Robinson, Annette Johnson and Cheryl Johnson, all of Hartsville, and Joyce Jackson of Darlington; an adopted daughter, Joyce Jackson of Hartsville; three sons, James (Diane) Johnson, Gerald (Teresa) Johnson and Jimmy (Karhan) McDowell, all of Hartsville; a sister, Mary McDowell; a special friend, Michael Johnson; 13 grandchildren; one great–grandchild and many other relatives and very dear friends.

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Judith Boatwright, 65, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Free Will Baptist Bible Church, conducted by the Rev. Jody Wynn. Interment followed at Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boatwright died Tuesday, June 29. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of Willie Lee and Ella Mae Oliver Suggs. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Bible Church.
Survivors include one son, Timothy W. (Jan) O'Neal; two daughters, Paula (Ricky) O'Neal Chaplin and Gloria (Johnny) Howle, all of Darlington; two brothers, Randall (Linda) Suggs and Johnny Suggs, also of Darlington; four sisters, Margie (Francis) Duvall, Janice Miller, Helen Clark, all of Darlington, and Martha McLaughlin of Hartsville; six grandchildren, Shelley, Nicole, Erin, Brittany, Amber and Amy.

INKY INGRAM
BETHUNE — Funeral services for Donald Wilson Inky Ingram Jr., 31, will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 2, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery.
Mr. Ingram died Wednesday, June 30. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Donald Wilson Ingram and Joyce Barefoot Plattner.
Surviving are his spouse, Mary Battista of Memphis, Tenn.; father and stepmother, Donald and Beverly Ingram of Bethune; mother and step–father, Joyce and Donald Plattner of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Thomas Wayne Williams of Memphis, Tenn., and Justin Mathis Ingram of Bethune; and grandparents, Ora Dell Ingram of Bethune, Gladys Lenora Morris of Hartsville and James Howard Barefoot of Ruby.
DARRYL L. COX SR.
FLORENCE — Funeral services for Darryl Lane Cox Sr., 64, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Pisgah United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Terry Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Cox died Thursday, July 1, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born in Richlands, N.C., to the late Owen Bryant and Louise Humphries Cox. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was retired as a service manager for W. L. Flowers & Company. Mr. Cox was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. He umpired for high school and was an ASA official. He coached Mite football for more than 25 years and was a volunteer for the Darlington High School Lady Falcons softball team. He also enjoyed dirt track racing and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Cox of the home; a son, Lane Cox of the home; a daughter, Tina (Dean) Teal of Summerville; a goddaughter, Kimberly McClean, of the home; a brother, Heyward B. (Annette) Cox of Burgaw, N.C., and a granddaughter, Nora Teal.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8.
Memorials may be made to the Darlington High School Lady Falcons softball team, 525 Spring St., Darlington, SC 29532.
BESSIE PEOPLES
LAMAR — Funeral services for Bessie Peoples, 97, of Bishopville were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church of Lamar, the Rev. Charles K. Wilson, pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc., of Lamar.
Mrs. Peoples died on Saturday, June 26, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born to the late Walker and Fannie (Lee) Gordon. She was married
to the late Isaac Peoples, and to this union three children were born, two of whom survive her. She also raised Mary Barber as her own daughter. She was first a member of the Baptist Community Church in Olanta and after moving to Florence joined the House of God where she continued her membership.
Survivors are a son, Otis Peoples of Lamar; a daughter, Frances Peoples of Bishopville; -two sisters, Jessie Lee McFadden and Chessie Vivian of Florence; daughter–in–law, Dorothy Peoples of Fayetteville, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 38 great–grandchildren and 18 great–great–grandchildren.
