LAMAR — Funeral services for John F. Williams, 40, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be today, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at Florence National cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Williams died Thursday, Sept. 30. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Justine Jackson Carter and John Williams. He was a graduate of Lamar High School, class of 1982, attended Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington and was an Army veteran. He was employed with South East Express.
Surviving other than his mother of Lamar and father of Philadelphia, Pa., are a sister, ShirondaShay Davis (Walter Daryl) of Hilton Head; a brother, Christopher Lee Williams of Columbia; a half–brother, Leland Williams of the U.S. Navy; his paternal grandmother, Caulida Williams of Philadelphia, Pa., and his companion, Winnie Harris of Lamar; two aunts, Geraldine (Lee) Huggins of Manassas, Va., and Ruthie (John) Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.
ETHEL J. MITCHELL
Funeral services for Ethel J. Mitchell will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, where the Rev. A.L. Smilkey is the pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville. Elder Rebecca Phillips will officiate the service.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Booker T. Peterson and Ruby Robinson. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for many years and served faithfully as a member of the Senior Missionaries. She also sang in the Gospel Choir.
She worked at Butler High School for many years and retired from the Power Plant Maintenance Department at Carolina Power & Light Co. after several years of employment.
She was a joy and an inspiration to her family and friends alike. Her sweetness and loving kindness will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Her memory will remain in the hearts and thoughts of those who survive her, including two daughters, Bazzie (Pastor Calvin) Muldrow and Sarah (Harold Williams) Brown, both of Hartsville; four sons, Ronnie Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C., Charles E. Peterson, Ricky Mitchell and Jim Mitchell, all of Hartsville; three sisters, Inez Roberts, Sarah Peterson and Betty Peterson, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Matthew Max Swinton of Los Angeles, Calif.; her aunt, Azalee Peterson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother–in–law, Bennie Widamen; five sisters–in–law, Hannah Dixon, Lillie Bell Mitchell, Theo Hough, Creola Watson and Sarah Braceley; 26 grandchildren; 28 great–grandchildren; other relatives and very dear friends.
BERNICE PEARCE
Funeral services for Bernice Howle Pearce, 83, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Hamilton will officiate with burial in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside. Memorials may be made to the Eastside Holiness Church, P. O. Box 2243 Hartsville, SC 29551.
Mrs. Pearce died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Bartow Lee and Emma Griggs Howle. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was retired after 44 years as a supervisor with Hartsville Manufacturing. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother and great–grandmother.
Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Johnny Lee and Mary Jeff Pearce of Monks Corner, Randy and Lib Pearce of Conway; sister, Catherine Brown of Hartsville; grandchildren, Pamela McAulffe, Penny Pearce, Kimberly Dean, Christopher H. Pearce; five great–grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bartow Howle, and her mother, Emma Howle.
H.M. O'NEAL
Funeral services for Hollace Milton H. M O'Neal Jr., 76, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Danny Pierce and the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Oct. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. O'Neal died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Hollace Milton and Vivian Melton O'Neal. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, employed with Sonoco Products Co. for 24 years, owner and operator of O'Neal's Radiator Service, deputy coroner of Darlington County for eight years and was past president of North Hartsville Dixie Youth Baseball league.
Surviving are his wife, Genelle Arnette O'Neal of Hartsville; sons and daughters–in–law, Shawn and Angie O'Neal of Hartsville, Steve and Anne O'Neal of Florence; daughters and sons–in–law, Mitzi and Hammond Rauers of Gainesville, Ga., Terry and Jimmy King of Hartsville, Brenda and Jimmy Haynes of Greer; sisters, Helen Byrd and Ethelene Gandy, both of Hartsville; grandchildren, Kristin Cruskie, Stephanie O'Neal, Justin Walters, Jason Haynes, Evan O'Neal and Ethan O'Neal.
BEATRICE BELL
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Beatrice Cagle Gainey Bell, 70, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Oct. 1, 2004, in Dovesville Church of God with interment following in Black Creek cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bell died Tuesday, Sept. 28, at her home. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Gainey Cagle. She was a housewife and member of Dovesville Church of God.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Bell of Hartsville; three daughters, Barbara Ann Bell and Debbie Gardner, both of Hartsville, and Joanne Gandy of Mont Clare; two sons, Furman Buddy Gainey and Mike Speck Gainey, both of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren and 13 great–grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Mae Gainey of Hartsville; three brothers, Buddy Cagle, Bill Cagle and James Cagle, all of Hartsville.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by brothers, Tootsie Cagle and Larry Cagle and sisters, Millie Collins and Frances Griggs.
MARVIN BUIE SR.
PATRICK — Funeral services for Marvin Wilson Buie Sr., 66, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2004, in Edwards Chapel Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Ed Griggs and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Buie died Monday, Sept. 27, at his residence. He was born in the Philadelphia community of Darlington County, son of the late Palmer and Pauline Jordan Buie. He was previously employed by PPM of Society Hill. Mr. Buie attended Edward's Chapel Baptist Church and was a member of Philadelphia Southern United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a wife, Mae Belle Brigman Buie of Patrick; a son Marvin W. (Donna Marie) Buie Jr. of Patrick; a daughter Mary (Mitchell Ray) Rivers of Patrick; five grandchildren, Alisha, Brittney, Nickie, Jessie and Brandon Buie; one great–grandchild, Jamie Johnson; six brothers, Kistler Buie, Robert Buie, Gerald Buie, all of Florence, Julian Buie of Darlington, Jim Buie of Sardis and Raeford Buie of Timmonsville; a sister Hazel Thompson of Darlington.
Mr. Buie was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, John and Ronald Buie.
BOBBY CRUMMY SR.
Funeral services for Bobby Crummy Sr. will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Nazareth New Apostolic Church. The burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville. Bishop Vera M. Davis will officiate the service.
Crummy
Mr. Crummy died Wednesday, Sept. 22. He was born Jan. 23, 1952, in Darlington County, a son of the late Janie Lee Johnson Crummy and the late Willie Earl Crummy. He attended the public schools of Darlington County and was a 1970 graduate of Butler High School. On April 14, 1973, he married
the former Dorothy Ann Price and this union was blessed with four children.
Mr. Crummy worked for several years as an officer with the Hartsville Police Department. He was later employed by Sara Lee Hosiery and worked there until his health began to fail. He was first a member of Centerville AME Church and later maintained his membership at Nazareth New Apostolic Church.
He served for several years as an officer in the church.
Mr. Crummy's love for people and the well being of others will be remembered by all of those who knew and loved him. Surviving to cherish his loving memory are his wife, Dorothy Ann Crummy of Hartsville; one daughter, Shelida (Joey) McDuffie of Hartsville; five sons, Bobby Crummy Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., Corey Crummy and Deonte Crummy both of Hartsville, Victor (Dannie) Crummy of Greenville and Antonio (Kisa) Peterson of Columbia; two sisters, Brenda (Calvin) Rodgers of Valdosta, Ga., and Annie (Harold) Cosom of Hartsville; four brothers, William (Tina) Crummy, the Rev. Richard (Bonnie) Crummy and James (Malora) Hudson, all of Hartsville, and Micheal (Courtney) Hudson of Charlotte, N.C.; his godmother, Pastor Vera M. Davis of Hartsville; his godchildren, Tina McElveen, Stanford Samuel and Dedra Dawson, all of Hartsville; his godsister, Louella (Joe) Price of Hartsville; his mother–in–law, Dorothy M. Price of Hartsville; his sister–in–law, Joyce (Harry) Council of Hartsville; his brother–in–law, Frank (Angie) Price of Raleigh, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and very dear friends.
EVA MAE GAINEY
Funeral services for Eva Mae Jacobs Gainey, 71, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 29, 2004, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Boswell will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gainey, widow of James B. Gainey, died Sunday, Sept. 26. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late William S. and Letha Polk Jacobs. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and was retired from Darlington County with more than 30 years of service for Judge Carl Cook and Voter Registration.
Surviving are her daughter and son–in–law, Belinda and Frankie Valle of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jared James Valle, Luke Patrick Valle; brothers, Joseph Jacobs of Sun City, Fla., Raymond Marine Jacobs of Hartsville; special friends, Dot Huber, Jean Huggins, Daphine Howard and Danna Isgett.
BILL MUNN
DARLINGTON — Graveside services for Millard Lide Bill Munn, 65, of Syracuse Community, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 29, 2004, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Munn died Sunday, Sept. 26, in a local hospital. He was born in Florence County, son of the late Wallace and Maggie Belle Register Munn. Mr. Munn was co–captain of the 1957–58 St. John's High School football team and also a track star. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve, then worked for Sonoco and was a farmer and a contractor. He donated his services in building the Pine Grove UMC parsonage. Mr. Munn was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Teresa Medlin Munn of Darlington; three sons, Billy (Wendy) Munn of Rocky Mt. N.C., Mark (Tammy) Munn of Florence and Clark Munn of Darlington; six grandchildren, Justin, Morgan, Hunter, Nicholas, Rayne and Clark Jr.; six brothers, Neil (Maytle) Munn of Oates, Ralph (Aleta) Munn of Lake City, James (Christine) Munn of Hartsville, Carl (Edith) Munn of Dovesville, Will (Roxie) Munn of Hartsville, Frank (Kay) Munn of Oates; two sisters, Mildred Blackwell of Lamar and Fannie Bell Sports of Darlington and a number of nieces and nephews.

GINI DACHENHAUSEN
DARLINGTON — Memorial services for Virginia Gini L. Wheeler Dachenhausen, 63, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Mechanicsville Baptist Church, officiated by pastor Frankie Tanner and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dachenhausen died Thursday, Sept. 23, in a Columbia hospital. She was born in New Milford, Conn., daughter of the late George W. and Frances Marie Smith Wheeler. She was a homemaker and member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Gini's good food, sweets and fellowship will be missed by the community.
Surviving are her husband, Kevin Dachenhausen of Darlington; her daughter, Kim Lopez of Gaston; her son, Glen Burdick of Darlington; her grandchildren, Melissa Michael and Mickey Burdick, Alexis Lopez and Mikayla Lopez–Waymer; also, her sister, Lorraine Mehuren of South Berry, Conn.
Memorials are suggested to the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Building Fund, 2364 Cashua Ferry Road, Darlington, SC 29532.
EUNICE B. SPRADLEY
BETHUNE — Funeral services for Eunice Blackwell Spradley, 96, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at McBee Baptist Church with burial following in Union Methodist cemetery, directed by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home of North Charleston and Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held tonight, Sept. 29, from 6 to 9 at Norton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Spradley, widow of William H. Spradley, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Sept. 26, at her daughter's residence. Born Aug. 15, 1908, in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of the late George B. Blackwell and Ida Blackwell Railey. She was a homemaker and member of McBee Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Sara Cumbee and the late DeHay Cumbee of Goose Creek, Mae (Charles) Dunn of Cottageville, Carolyn (William) Rutland of Summerville, Patricia (Tony) Munoz of North Charleston; two sons, James Spradley and Harvey (Margie) Spradley, both of Bethune; one daughter–in–law, Delores Spradley of North Charleston; one son–in–law, Wayne Blackwell of Wallaha; 24 grandchildren; 32 great–grandchildren; seven great–great–grandchildren; four nieces, Louise Dean and Cristine Ratciff of Bethune, Linda Youngblood and Geraldine Polk of Columbia.
Mrs. Spradley was predeceased by her husband, William H. Spradley; three daughters, Betty Hunt, Lois Gamble and Shelia Blackwell; three sons, Russell Spradley, Billy Spradley and Richard Spradley; and a brother, Charlie Blackwell.
