LAUREL HILL, N.C. — Graveside services for Marilyn E. Norton 70, who died Sept. 19, 2004, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 22, in Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg, N.C., directed by Norton Funeral Home of Hartsville, with Dr. Gary Colboch officiating.
Marilyn was born in Scotland County, N.C., a daughter of the late Elwood and Sallie Laird Norton. She was a graduate of Laurel Hill High School, McLeod School of Nursing in Florence and was awarded the Alice B. Comer Award for Outstanding Achievement in Nursing. She also attended Flora McDonald College and the University of North Carolina.
Surviving are her sister, LaRue (Rudolph) Hicks of Laurel Hill, N.C.; brother, Eldridge (Eydie) Norton of Hartsville; nieces and nephews, Rudy Hicks, Kay Chapman, Shawn Holland, Scott, Candace and Kelsey Norton; nine great–nieces and nephews.
MACK WATSON
FLORENCE — Funeral services for James Mack McIver Watson, 70, were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Darlington. Interment followed in Magnolia cemetery, Hartsville.
Mr. Watson died at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 15, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late James Henry and Clara O'Neal Watson. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Watson was a retired meat cutter. - - He was a Shriner, member of the Darlington Moose Lodge and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Surviving are his wife, Angela Smith Watson of Florence; three sons, James Macky McIver Watson Jr., of Darlington, Allen Buddy Ralph Watson and Michael S. Watson, both of Florence; one daughter, Pamela Ann Watson, also of Florence; seven grandchildren, six great–grandchildren and five step–grandchildren; three step–sons, Kip Harper of Florence, David Taylor and Gary Taylor, both of West Virginia; a step–daughter, Shawna Taylor of Florence; four brothers, Ben W. Watson, Dave Watson, Robert A. Watson, and G. Howard Watson, all of Darlington; four sisters, Mildred Case of Darlington, Daphne Doane of Arizona, Jean Williams of Moncks Corner and G. Helen Gause of Arizona.
Mr. Watson was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Watson and Jay Watson, and a sister, Elizabeth W. Hyman.
WILLIE T. TYNER SR.
Funeral services for Willie T. Tyner Sr., 87, widower of Eva Dixon Tyner, were held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Edwards Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Tyner died Sept. 19. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Luke and Velma Gainey Tyner. He was a member of Edwards Chapel and was retired from the City of Hartsville. Mr. Tyner was devoted to his family.
Surviving are his daughters, Elaine McLaughlin and Catherine Kirkman, both of Hartsville, Carolyn Jordan of Patrick and Virginia Campbell of Kannapolis, N.C.; sons, the Rev. Johnny and J.D. Tyner, both of Hartsville, William T. Tyner of Concord, N.C.; sister, Dorothy Sue Tyner Lemmons of Hartsville; 17 grandchildren and 31 great–grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Harrison, Carson Sr., Edward, Francis, Kenneth, J.P., Ray, Mary and Margaret
JAMES E. SELLERS
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for James E. Sellers, 61, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 22, 2004, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Sellers died Sunday, Sept. 19, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Florie McPhail Sellers and the late Eddie Sellers Jr. He received his education in the Darlington County public school system. He was a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Trustee Board, Masonic Lodge Mt. Rona No. 348, Development Board, and Pee Dee Electric Board of Trustees. He retired from Sonoco Products Co.
Surviving other than his mother of Society Hill are his wife, Henrietta Sims Sellers of Society Hill; two daughters, Sheena Harrell of Hartsville and Demetric Harrell of Atlanta, Ga.; five sons, Kenneth (Margaret) Sellers, Ronnie (Janie) Sellers and Frederick (Tycie) Sellers, all of Society Hill; James Murray (Latasha) Sellers of Cheraw, and Marcus (Gloria) Chapman of Florence; two brothers, Eddie (Sherlene) Sellers III of Bennettsville, Ricky James of Hartsville; a sister, Vicky James of Florence; 11 grandchildren; a goddaughter, Willie Mae (Roger) Ings of Society Hill; a special friend, Judge Clarence L. James of Darlington; a special uncle, Frank McPhail Sr. of Darlington; three adopted sisters, Polly Knox of Charlotte, N.C., Lizzie McPhail and Carrie Lee Sumter, both of Darlington; two adopted brothers, Wallace Samuels of Ansonia, Conn., and Pervis Samuels of Washington, D.C.

DARLINGTON — A graveside service for Doris Mumford McGee, 60, was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in Sunset Memorial Park in Bennettsville, directed by Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. McGee died Saturday, Sept. 18. She was born in Marlboro County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Mae Chavis Mumford. She was a waitress at the old B&B; Restaurant in Darlington for a number of years. Mrs. McGee enjoyed watching soap operas and was a NASCAR/Bill Elliott fan.
Survivors include her fiancee, Carl Rotan of Darlington; two sons, Leon (Judy) Rouse of Darlington and Robbie (Melissa) Rouse of Lexington; two daughters, Lisa Rouse Coleman and Kim Rouse Cranford, both of Darlington; two brothers, Clyde Mumford and Charles Mumford; two sisters, Ethel Mae Smith and Elizabeth McQueen; and 11 grandchildren, Robbie, Jessica, Bryson, Dustin, Austin, Reagan, Brittney, Jackson, Andrew, Luke and Dillon

James Hampton Crouch, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004. The family will receive friends today, Sept. 22, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the residence, 317 E. Richardson Circle, Hartsville. Graveside services will be held at Magnolia cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23.
BAXTER GAINEY
Funeral services for Baxter McKinley Gainey, 80, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Clyde Church of God. The Revs. Don Childers, I. J. Strickland, and Wallace Strickland will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, Sept. 22, from 5 until 7 at the residence.
Mr. Gainey, widower of Christine Hayden Gainey, died Tuesday, Sept. 21. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Luther C. and Etta Edwards Gainey. He was a member of Clyde Church of God, and was retired from Hartsville Cotton Mill and Sonoco Products Company. -
Surviving are his sons and daughters–in–law, Carrol and Kim Gainey, Don and Gail Gainey, Wayne and Patsy Gainey, Ben Gainey, all of Hartsville; sister, Geneva Wallace of Milton, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren.

Funeral services for Louise Watkins Young, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10–11 a.m. in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 East Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.
Mrs. Young, widow of Walter Thomas Young, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004. Born in Maxton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late John DeJarnette and May Watkins. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was very involved in WMU, Vacation Bible School and the Pulpit Committee.
Surviving are her son and daughters–in–law, Tommy and Freida Young of Magnolia, Miss, , Sharon Young of Lyman; daughter and son–in–law, Kay and Jim Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Jewell Moree of Rockingham, N.C.; grandchildren, Kim and Daryl Chopin, Vanessa and Beau Clark, Stephen Hoffman and Julie Hoffman; great–grandchildren, Nathan Chopin, August Chopin, Camille Chopin, Will Clark and Julia Clark.

LAMAR — Funeral services for Jesse Thomas Tom Jones Jr., 71, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, Lamar, with burial following in Zion cemetery.
Mr. Jones died Tuesday, Sept. 14, at MUSC Hospital in Charleston. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Jesse T. Jones and Mary Teal Jones. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a civil engineer for Sonoco Products Co. until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Jones enjoyed watching football.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Windham Jones of Lamar, three daughters, Terri Howle, Penny (Billy) Overton, and Jennifer (Victor) Benton, all of Lamar; four grandchildren, Cassie Howle, Kara Tadlock, Abby Tadlock, and Cole Thomas; a brother, Marion Jones of Bishopville, three sisters, Margaret Spires, Lula Mahn, and Maurice Galloway all of Hartsville.

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Virginia Dale Nolan Cooper Poston, 55, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Church of God of Prophecy. Interment followed in Grove Hill cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Poston died Tuesday, Sept. 14, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Marlboro County, daughter of the late Cletus and Alma Jackson Nolan. She was a registered nurse, housewife and member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Poston of Florence; son, Ottie Cooper; daughter, Belinda Cooper, both of Florence; grandchildren, Brittney and Justin James; step–son, Lil Ken Poston III of Charleston; a special niece, Toni Humphries of Florence; sister, Gladys Norton of Bennettsville and three brothers, Cletus Nolan Jr., Tommy Nolan, both of Bennettsville and Wayne Nolan of Darlington.
CLEVELAND SANSBURY
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Cleveland Brother Sansbury, 55, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Tabernacle Worship Center with Bishop C. L. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Palmetto Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Sansbury died Saturday, Sept. 11, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Dora White Sansbury and the late Raymond Sansbury Sr. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools and worked at Chesterfield Lumber Company for 18 years until he became disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Mae Sansbury of the home; his mother, Dora Sansbury Black of Darlington; three children, Catina (Bobby) Hart, Chevonda Moses and Gary Sansbury, all of Darlington; a sister, Marie Sansbury Alston of Darlington; two brothers, Raymond (Edell) Sansbury Jr. and Lawrence Sansbury, both of Darlington; mother–in–law, Teresa Moses; brother–in–law, Curtis Moses, both of Darlington; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Clarence Campbell, preceded him in death.
The family is receiving friends at the home of a daughter, Chevonda Moses of 637 First St., Darlington.

Funeral services for Marvin T. Butch Ott, 59, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2004, at Fourth Street Baptist Church. The Revs. Dewey Dean and Jack Epperly will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Ott died Tuesday, Sept. 14. Born in Aiken, he was a son of the late Marvin Thurmond and Mary Monty Smith Ott Sr. He was a member and former deacon of Fourth Street Baptist Church. He retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member the Lakeview Club and Board. He was an owner and operator of Westwood Bar–B–Que. He also coached a girls softball team and the boys Pony League baseball team. Butch was a loving husband, daddy and poppy.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Brewer Ott of Hartsville; daughters and son–in–law, Karen and Barry Stewart and Kelly Ott, all of Hartsville; sister and brother–in–law, Kay and Freddie Dean of Hartsville; granddaughter, Abby Stewart of Hartsville.
ELMA WALLACE
Funeral services for Elma Stokes Wallace, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2004, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Peter Rivera will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Swift Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 413 North Center Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Wallace died Wednesday, Sept. 15. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late J. Cleveland and Mary Rye Stokes. She was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church and the JoAnn Lee Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, Marian Clyde Wallace of Hartsville; sisters and brother–in–law, Hazel Munn of Florence and Dorothy and James Dowling of Lamar; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, the Rev. Paul Stokes, Whitfield Stokes; sisters, Frances Smith and Beatrice Gandy.
