Thompson, Lettie

ABBEVILLE — Lettie South Thompson, 87, of 35 Thompson Road died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

Born in McCormick, she was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Abbeville ARP Church.

Surviving are daughter, Betty T. Dansbey of Abbeville; son, Robert “Bobby” Thompson of Round-O; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Homer Thompson and the daughter of the late Robert Ford and Olia Christian South.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Monday in Melrose Cemetery with Dr. Randall Ruble and the Rev. James Long officiating. The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday at the home of Mrs. Thompson, 35 Thompson Road.

Nix, Tommie Joe

Tommie Joe Nix, 67, of 1105 Fairhaven Drive and of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Oconee County, he served with the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He retired from the Michelin Tire Manufacturing Company, and was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge No. 240, and of the Hejaz Shrine O.E.S. No. 130. He was a member of Orrville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are widow, Frances Brown Nix of the home; daughters, Cindy Rumsey of Seneca and Sheila Chappell of Anderson; son, Randall Moon of Columbia; mother, Lucille Black Nix of Seneca; sister, Mary Donovan of Seneca; brothers, Romaine Nix and Otis Nix, both of Seneca; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Joseph Edward Nix and was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Vaughn.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, 401 N. Main St., by the Rev. John Callahan; burial will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Downtown Chapel.

The family will be at the residence.

Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to Orrville United Methodist Church, 2408 S. Main St., Anderson, S.C. 29624.

Lamb, Charles A.

Charles A. Lamb, 78, of 322 Green Hill Drive, Anderson, husband of Betty Lamb, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by The McDougald Funeral Home.

Jordan, Ralph

HARTWELL, Ga. — Ralph Jordan, 79, of 5072 Bowman Highway died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Mack's Funeral Home, Hartwell.

Brock, Flossie Lucille

Flossie Lucille Brock, 74, of 600 E. Washington St., Anderson, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Johnson Funeral Home.

The family is at the home.

Beasley, Etna Davenport

CLAYTON, Ga. — Etna Davenport Beasley, 87, of Homer died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at BJC Nursing Home in Commerce.

Born in Clay County, N.C., she lived most of her life in Rabun County. She was a homemaker and attended the Congregational Holiness Church.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Beasley Tyler of Homer; sons, Ralph H. Beasley of Cornelia and Ray Beasley and Allen Beasley, both of Clayton; brother, Robert Davenport Beasley of Hayesville, N.C.; sister, Nettie Wikle of Asheville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Albert Beasley and the daughter of the late Harvey and Addie Scroggs Davenport. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Verlon Davenport and Fred Davenport; and one sister, Ida Wikle.

Services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home by the Revs. Fred Enlow and Madison McCrackin; burial will be in the Mulberry Methodist Cemetery in Otto, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Tyler in Homer, and at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Blanche Beasley in Cornelia.

Alford, Lula Mae

BENNETTSVILLE — Lula Mae Alford, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, in Bennettsville.

She was a member of Spears United Methodist Church and was a lifelong homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Woods and Ernestine Cook, of Bennettsville, Eloise Chambers of Spotsylvania, Va., Christine Neely of Mauldin, and Eida Hicks of Piedmont; sons, Alister Alford Sr. of Laurniburg, N.C., and Marvin Alford of Bennettsville; brother, Robert Breeden Sr. of Irvington, N.J.; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late Maston Sr. and Maggie Perkins Breeden.

Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Spears United Methodist Church, Bennettsville.

The family will be at the home of Ernestine Cook, 113 Forrest St., Bennettsville.

Morris Funeral Home, Marshall and Bouchier Street, Bennettsville is in charge of the services.

Local arrangements by the Unity Mortuary of Anderson.

Carnes, Lillian Wilson

WESTMINSTER — Lillian Lee Wilson Carnes, 82, of 607 King St. died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Marnier Health Care.

Born in Oconee County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Corinth Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Wendell Carnes of Westminster; brother, Don Wilson of Westminster; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Robert Adger Carnes and the daughter of the late Venter S. and Corenia Collins Wilson.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Westminster First Baptist Church cemetery by the Revs John McKnight, Mark Ford and Carlos Hatcher. The body is at Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster.

Flowers are accepted. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Family members will be at their respective homes.

Sandier Funeral Home, Westminster, is in charge of arrangements.

Winn, The Rev. Boyd

ROYSTON, Ga. — The Rev. Boyd Winn, 86, of Royston died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.

Born in Hart County, he graduated from Bowman High School in 1935 and decided to enter the ministry in 1940. He attended Young Harris College and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in 1944.

He attended Duke University for one year and then attended the Chandler School of Theology at Emory University, where he graduated in 1949. He retired in 1981, having served Rockford Street Methodist Church in Mount Airy, N.C., Lindsey Memorial Methodist Church in Reidsville, N.C., Clayton Methodist Church, Lawrenceville First Methodist Church, Fairburn First Methodist Church, Jonesboro First Methodist Church, Lakewood Heights Methodist Church in Atlanta, Manchester United Methodist Church, Clarkston United Methodist Church, Commerce United Methodist Church, and Washington United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Max Winn of Memphis, Tenn., Gary Winn of Huntsville, Ala. and Tim Winn of Snellville; sister, Thelma Duncan of Augusta; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was the son of the late Wilburn and Carrine McGarity Winn Burden. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Winn.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Royston United Methodist Church with Bishop Bevel Jones and the Revs. Bobby Anthony and Brian Clarke; burial will follow in the Vanna United Methodist Church cemetery. The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Royston United Methodist Church, 137 Franklin Springs St., Royston, Ga. 30662.

Wilbanks, Loyd D.

SENECA — Loyd D. Williams, 65, of 14060 S. Radio Station Road died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at his residence.

He was a retired supervisor with Phillips Fibers, a member of Utica Baptist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are son, Phillip L. Wilbanks of Seneca; daughters, Cynthia Powell of Townville and Sherry Sorrells of Seneca; three brothers; five sisters in Georgia; and three grandchildren.

He was the son of Clara Chumbler Wilbanks and Emmalee Cochran Wilbanks.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Seneca Mortuary by the Rev. Coles Capps; entombment will be in Oconee Memorial Park following the service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Seneca Mortuary.

The family will be at the home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Collins Children Home, P.O. Box 745, Seneca, S.C. 29679, or Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672.

White, Hattie Rollinson

ABBEVILLE — Hattie Rollinson White, 85, of 505 Secession Ave. died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.

Born in McCormick County, she was a member of St. James AME Church in Abbeville and served as chaplin of the senior choir, member of the Stewardess Board, a faithful Sunday school scholar and member of the Missionary Society and was a member of Little Mountain OES chapter No. 40.

Surviving are sons, William White of Elgin and Charles White of Abbeville; daughter, Harriet Ragin of Laurel, Md.; 15 grandchildren, four of whom were raised in the home; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was the daughter of the late George Rollinson and Harriet Guillebeaux Rollinson.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James AME Church, Abbeville, by the Rev. James Thompson; burial in Harbinson Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Viewing will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Richie Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home.

Tucker, Edward

SALEM — Edward F. Tucker Sr., 101, of 609 N. Lake Drive died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at his residence.

A native of Blackstone, Va., he was a retired bank officer.

Surviving are son, Edward F. Tucker Jr. of Salem; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was the widower of Mary A. Tucker and the son of the late William I. and Mamie Fitzgerald Tucker.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla.

The family will be at the residence.
