Angela M. Wright
Gaffney native

Angela Marie Wright, 35, of Clinton, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at 2:40 p.m. in Whitten Center in Clinton. Miss Wright was born in Gaffney on Oct. 5, 1967, a daughter of Benny Wright and Wilma Haney Wright of Gaffney. She was a member of True Gospel Life Church. Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Rhonda W. Reynolds of Gaffney; and a brother, Jeffrey Wright of Gaffney.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at True Gospel Life Church conducted by the Rev. Charles Summer. Burial will be in Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gaffney. Active pallbearers will be David Gettys, Thomas Alvis, Leonard Peeler, Roger Echoles, Dennis Allison and Alan Reynolds.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her sister, Rhonda Reynolds, 233 Darby Road, Gaffney. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Harold D. Brown Sr.
Former employee of Abco Chemicals JONESVILLE

Harold David Brown Sr., 61, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday evening at 11:30 p.m. Mr. Brown was the husband of Brenda Turner Brown of 138 Sprouse Road, Jonesville. Mr. Brown was born in Pacolet Mills, July 21, 1943, a son of Thelma Garner Brown of Pacolet Mills and the late Troy Brown. He was a graduate of Pacolet High School and an active supporter of the Jonesville High School Marching Band. Mr. Brown was a Mason and former Shriner and a former employee of Abco Chemicals in Spartanburg. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Harold David Brown Jr. of Pacolet Mills; a very special granddaughter, Leigh Ann Brown of Union and a very special grandson, Charlie Brown of the home; a sister, Joyce B. Sexton of Pacolet; a brother, Ray Brown of Spartanburg; several nieces and nephews and a very special great-nephew, Master Jake Sexton of Pacolet.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel with visitation immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29301 or to the Jonesville High Band Aid Club, 131 N. Main St., Jonesville, S.C. 29353 or to a charity of one's choice. The family is at the home, 138 Sprouse Road, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Lonnie C. Edwards
CARLISLE

Lonnie C. (Billy) Edwards, 66, of 141 Dunlap Road, Carlisle, husband of Carole J. Edwards, died at his home Wednesday, May 26, 2004. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Whitney Funeral Home.

Ja'Derrick K. Fincher

Ja' Derrick Kendell Fincher, 4, of 305 Gage Ave., Union, died at his home Sunday, May 23, 2004. Born in Spartanburg on Dec. 9, 1999, he was the son of Derrick Kendell Fincher and La'Janielle N. Jones, both of Union.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Ja'Liyah Kendara Fincher of Union; maternal grandparents, Berry E. Jones and Louanna Jones of Pacolet; Lessie J. Rice and Robert Rice of Union; paternal grandmother, Jo Ann McClurkin of Union; maternal great-grandparents, E.B. Jones of Temple Hills, Md., and Daisy R. Tate of Pacolet; maternal great-grandparents, Samuel Adams Sr. of Union and the late Eleanor Adams; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. J. Archie Calhoun. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. Pallbearers were Starks Fincher, Sam Adams Jr., DeWayne Tate and Charles Tate. Floral bearers were: Porsha Smith, Monica Fincher, La'Verne Adams, Stacy Adams, Crystal Pressley, Shaute Smith and Kim Fincher.

The family is at the home, 305 Gage Ave., Union. A family hour was held Wednesday at the funeral home prior to public viewing. The Union Community Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Jimmie Sims Sr.
Torrington Co. machinist

Jimmie Sims Sr. of 109 Irene St. died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Sims was born Sept. 8, 1939, in Union County, the son of the late Jessie Sims Sr. and Christine Gillian Sims. He attended Union County Schools and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a machinist at Torrington Co. for many years.

Surviving are four sons, Jimmy Jr., Ricky and Dwight Sims, all of Union, and Kenneth Sims of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Sally Jeter of Union; two brothers, William Sims of Detroit, Mich., and Robert Walton of Union; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corinth Baptist Church. Burial will be at Maple Ridge Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the home. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alvalene A. Baker
Wallace Thomson Hospital retiree

Alvalene Austin Baker, 79, widow of Roy H. Baker of 119 Osborne St., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 8:40 a.m. Mrs. Baker was born in Union on March 5, 1924, a daughter of the late James Jason Austin and Kate McKeown Austin. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was retired from Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda B. and Eddie Hearn of Union and Cindy B. and Larry Greer of Greenville; and a daughter, Sharon Baker of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Nancy Baker of Union; a sister, Marian A. English of Union; three brothers, Ralph (Doc) Austin and James Austin, both of Union and Coy Jones of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Brad Greer, Cody Hearn, Cristen Greer, Justin Greer and Ron Lybrand.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Joey English, Eric English, Junior Austin, Mike Austin, Darrell Austin, Mark Austin, Tim Austin and Jeff Austin.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Thursday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Dr. David Keith, Paul and Margaret Williford, Harrell and Peggy Bright, Tony and Kathy Keasler, Colon Duckett, members of the Golden Agers of Morningside Baptist Church; nurses and nursing assistants of Unit #2 of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 119 Osborne St. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Roy J. Gwinn
Retired from Union Mill

Roy Jefferson Gwinn, widower of Mattie Sanders Gwinn of 600 N. Pinckney St., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 11 p.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney. Mr. Gwinn was born in Enoree on July 16, 1913, a son f the late Ludie Preston Gwinn Sr. and Docia Pruitt Gwinn. He was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. Mr. Gwinn was retired form United Merchants, Union Plant.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Roy Jerry and Linda Bates Gwinn of Simpsonville; a sister, Lillian G. Pittman of Woodruff; four grandchildren, April Humphries of Union, David and Crystal Humphries of Spartanburg; Lisa and Bart Warriner of Easley and Lance Gwinn of Simpsonville; two great-grandchildren, Lea and Loren Williams; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Humphries of Union. Mr. Gwinn was predeceased by a daughter, Sara Faye Gwinn Humphries and three brothers, Robert S. Gwinn, Leland Gwinn and L.P. Gwinn Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ralph Bowling. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Bart Warriner, Jimmy Humphries, Lance Gwinn, David Humphries, Hugh Watson Jr. and Maxie Watson. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home, 600 N. Pinckney St. Memorials may be made to Duncan Acres United Methodist Church, 417 Rice Ave., Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Eva M. Hancock
Women's Army Corps veteran

ROCK HILL Eva Mackey Hancock, 81, widow of M. D. Hancock, of 185 McDow Drive, formerly of 2645 Lesslie Highway, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Wesminister Health Care. A native of Union County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late C.F. Mackey and the late Ellen Gordon Mackey.

She was a former member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) having served during World War II. Mrs. Hancock was a member of Park Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Neely's Creek ARP Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Eddie Ramsey.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Strong of Union and Carolyn Finley of Rock Hill; two brothers, George Mackey of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Grady Mackey of Rock Hill; two sisters, Ellen Franklin of Kings Mountain and Grace Cauthen of Lancaster; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be today from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill and other times at the home, 2645 Lesslie Highway. Memorials may be made to Park Baptist Church, 717 E. Main St., Rock Hill, S.C. 29730. Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, has charge of arrangements.

Lonnie C. Edwards
City of Union retiree

CARLISLE Lonnie C. (Billy) Edwards, 66, of 141 Dunlap Road, Carlisle, husband of Carole J. Thompson Edwards, died at his home Wednesday, May 26, 2004. Mr. Edwards was born in Union County on March 3, 1938, a son of Rosa Lee McConnell Edwards and the late Orlage Edwards. He was a faithful member of James Chapel Baptist Church. A graduate of Sims High School class of 1958, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from the City of Union as an animal control officer.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Sharhonda L. Edwards of the home; five brothers, Richard (Susan) Edwards of Philadelphia, Pa., Robert L. (Josephine) Edwards of Leesburg, Fla., Clyde (Marie) Edwards and Charles C. (Hattie) Edwards, both of Carlisle and the Rev. Johnnie C. (Clista) Edwards of Chester; and a sister, Joyce E. (Charles) Derrick of Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at James Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. James Knapper. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the home Saturday evening. The family is at the home, 141 Dunlap Road, Carlisle. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service. The Whitney Funeral Home.

Ila O. Eller
Retired from Buffalo Mill

Ila O'Shields Medford Eller, 84, of 306 Drugstore St., Buffalo, widow of Garland Eller, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at 3:05 a.m. in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a lingering illness. Mrs. Eller was born in Union on Oct. 14, 1919, a daughter of the late Benjamin Monroe and Austa Smith O'Shields. She was first married to the late James G. Medford Sr. Mrs. Eller was a member of Putman Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy M. and Linda G. Medford of Jonesville and James G. and Doris Medford of Wachula, Fla.,; a daughter-in-law, Kay Medford of Greenville; two sisters, Mildred O. Fleming and Sara O. Tankersley, both of Buffalo; a brother, Lewis Earl O'Shields of Jacksonville, Fla., a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Virgie Horne of Summerville, Marleen Whitehead of Buffalo and Teressa Boiter of Spartanburg; two step-sons, Arley Eller and Ronnie Fisher, both of Buffalo; and a special friend, Ernest O'Shields of Buffalo.

Mrs. Eller was predeceased by two sons, Jerry S. Medford and Bruce Nelson Medford; three sisters, Octavia O'Shields, Daisy Maness and Elizabeth O'Shields; and three brothers, James B. O'Shields, Gus S. O'Shields and George O'Shields.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Putman Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Donald Tillman and the Rev. Jerry Lawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Medford, O'Neil Medford, Matthew Medford, Tommy Simmons, Jiggs O'Shields, Charles Warner and Arley Eller.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Sunday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Fielder, Dr. Robert Wentz, Helen Lawson, Nettie, Shirley and Millie Ford, Ronald and Sandy Garner, Ernest O'Shields, Mary and Tom Lawson, Bobby and Tina Boulware, Charles and Dora Blackwell, Yvonne Coleman, members of Mrs. Eller's Sunday School Class and staff of Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:30 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Randy M. and Linda G. Medford, 1317 S. Jonesville Highway, Jonesville.
