DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Susan Powell McRae, 44, will be today, Sept. 8, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Temple Free Will Baptist Church with graveside services following at 2 p.m. in New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church cemetery in Hanna, officiated by Pastor Todd Parrish and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. McRae died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Florence County, daughter of J. E. Powell and the late Johnnie Ard Powell. She was a 1978 graduate of St. John's High School and was a secretary. Mrs. McRae will be remembered as always having a smile. She was a member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father of Darlington are her husband, Allen McRae of Darlington, two step–children, Ben McRae and Shannon McRae, both of Darlington, a sister, Dianne P. Driggers of Myrtle Beach, a brother Jeffrey (Tammie) Powell of Conway, nieces and nephews: Cassie Powell, Bobby Driggers, and Joey Driggers, aunts, Carolyn (Kearney) Turner and Sherrill (Earle) Tyler, all of Lake City, and beloved pets Lucy and Savannah.

SUSIE M. STANSBURY
Funeral services for Susie Mae Stansbury were held Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at 2 p.m.at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. of Hartsville. Chaplin Roger Martin officiated the service.
Mrs. Stansbury was born Sept. 14, 1925, a daughter of Myrtice Goin Hines and the late John Hines. She was educated in the public schools of Halifax County, N.C., and worked in the farming community for most of her life. She was married
to the late Walter Stansbury and they were the parents of six children. One of her children, Annie Lou Allen, preceded her in death.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Mrs. Stansbury include her mother, Myrtice Goin Hines; three sons, James Ray Stansbury and Sterling (Beulah) Stansbury of Hartsville; Walter (Retha) Stansbury of Queens, NY; two sisters, Shirley Stansbury and Clematine Britt both of New York City; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many other nieces, nephews and very dear friends.
WILLIAMETTA I. CHAPMAN
A celebration of life for Willametta Smith Isgett Chapman, 88, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at Morton Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Charles Nicholson, John Doubles, and Phillip Braddock officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Morton Presbyterian Church, 1068 Morton Circle, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Chapman, widow of Lonnie Isgett and Fred Chapman, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004. Born in Palmyra, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late George Washington Smith and Myrtle McApline Smith Mancill. She was a member of Morton Presbyterian Church. She retired from Hartsville Manufacturing and was the former president of the I.L.G. Union.
Surviving are her sons, William Griffith Chapman of San Antonio, Texas; Raymond M. Joe Chapman of Hartsville; Billy Charles Chapman of Hartsville; daughter, Myrtle Isgett Braddock of Hartsville; brother, Myrtis Smith of Virginia Beach, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great–grandchildren; 6 great–great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lenora Sue Chapman; and granddaughter, Penny Chapman.
VERGIA GAINEY
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Vergia Jordan Gainey, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 3, 2004, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church, with interment following in the church cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral home of Darlington.
Mrs. Gainey died Tuesday night, Aug. 31, in a local hospital. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Thomas Jenkins Jordan and Dorothy Lois Wilson Jordan. She was married
to the late Burnice Gainey. Mrs. Gainey retired after more than 20 years with Galey & Lord, formerly Klopman Industries of Society Hill, and was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, David T. Gainey, Billy E. (Wanda) Gainey, both of Society Hill and Richard B. (Georgann) Gainey of Hartsville; two daughters, Patsy (Mike) Bryant and RoseMary McCallum, both of Society Hill; grandchildren, Lisa O'Neal, Sherry Pratt, Kim Gainey, Lynn O'Neal, Marty Gainey, Debbie McCallum, Chad and Crystal Bryant; also, four great–grandchildren; one brother, Carmel Jordan of Alabama; and two sisters, Linda J. Duszynski of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sallie J. Adams of Williston.
RAY L. SIRMANS
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Raynor Lewis Ray Sirmans, 52, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 3, 2004, at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anna G. Miller, pastor, and the Rev. J. Cooper Dicks officiating. Burial will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Sirmans died Sunday, Aug. 29, in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Eatonton, Putnam County, Ga., a son of Esther Lewis Sirmans and the late Russell L. Sirmans Sr., and step–son of the late Clifford Grayson Jr. He received his formal education in the Putnam County and Orangeburg County public schools. He was a graduate of Wilkinson High School and attended S.C. State University. He was affiliated with Edisto Lodge No. 39, Free and Accepted Mason, Orangeburg, the American Legion Post 210, the Fraternal Order of Police, Darlington. He was a state constable serving as director of security of the Housing Authority of Florence. He joined the Army National Guard, 133rd Military Police, Timmonsville. He served as a law enforcement officer in cities around the Pee Dee area and retired as a lieutenant of the Timmonsville Police Department.
Survivors include his wife, Monica P. Sirmans of the home; his mother, Esther L. Grayson of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Raymond L. Mitchell of Charlotte, N.C., and Raynor Sirmans of Orangeburg; three daughters, Patti Faye (Tony) Moses, Caramika Wilson and Kadibria Abraham, all of Darlington; three brothers, Russell (Barbara) Sirmans of Birmingham, Ala., J. Stacy Grayson and Cedrick Sirmans, both of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Marsha S. Johnson, Andrietta S. (Kenneth) Fogle, Lafay S. (Daniel) Boyd, all of Orangeburg, and Mary S. Johnson of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren; in–laws; a nephew, James Carter Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; nieces, nephews and devoted friends, Maurice (Iris) Streater, Lorenzo Williams and Patricia (Johnnie) Johnson.
LOUISE ROBINSON
Funeral services for Louise Robinson, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Apostolic Pentecostal Assembly in Lydia with Elder Chris Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Robinson died Tuesday, Aug. 31, in a Connecticut hospital. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Collin and Ellen Blakeny Bacote. She was educated in the Lee County public school system. She was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Assembly Church and other organizations of the church.
Surviving are seven daughters, Annie Lester, Patricia (James) Jackson and Barbara Slater, all of Hartsville, Pastor Loretta (Henry) Kemp, Doris Rivers and Ella Mae Dargan, all of Meriden, Conn., Mary L. Jackson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, Bishop Joe L. Robinson and Elijah (Patricia) Robinson, both of Hartsville; one sister, Corine McCullough of Ashland; one brother, Otis Lee Bacote of Baltimore, Md.; three adopted daughters, Judy Norwood Knight and Lana Norwood Faile, both of Hartsville and Gail Norwood Newman of Camden; 42 grandchildren; 35 great–grandchildren; one great–great–grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
VIVIAN ROSS HOWLE
Graveside services for Vivian Ross Howle, 73, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 3, 2004, at Westview Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Robert Morris will officiate and Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 2829 Patrick Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mrs. Howle died Wednesday, Sept. 1. Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William Glenn and Dorothy Walker Lockey. She was an active member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene and was loved by her church family. She was formerly employed with Boyd Powe Drug Store, Fifth Street Cleaners and Carolina Lunch.
Surviving are her husband, Emmitt Howle of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Cathy Belangia and Larry Reiss, Laura Ross and Maxcey Roscoe, all of Hartsville; step–daughters and spouse, Sue and Paul Staten of Patrick; step–sons and spouse, J. C. and Tressa Howle of Greenwood, Lester Howle of Patrick; grandchildren and spouses, Bucky Dudley III of Mt. Pleasant, Jay Belangia of Washington, D.C., Charlie and Jackie Belangia of Conway, Megan Belangia and Harold Donaghe of Florence, Erin Belangia and Jerry Sanchez of Dayton, Ohio, Debbie and Rico Sanchez of Camden, Lisa Pegler of Camden, Faith Howle of Greenwood; 11 great–grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, James William Jimmy Ross, and brother, William Carol Bootus Lockey.
IVA S. TURNER
Funeral services for Iva Sellers Turner, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Colboch and Milton G. Frazier officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Anson Memorial Park in Wadesboro, N.C., directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight, Sept. 3, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Turner died Thursday, Sept. 2. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Thomas Clyde and Beulah Brown Sellers. She was a faithful, longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was a loving dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and Christian.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, George D. Turner Jr.; sons and daughter–in laws, Mitchell and Judy Turner and Ronnie and Betty Jo Turner, both of Hartsville; daughter and son–in–law, Denise and Robin Hagy of Anderson.
Five grandchildren who lovingly knew her as Mema, Brian Turner of Hartsville, Ron Turner of Charleston, Dawn Clark of Darlington, Meredith and Natalie Irby of Anderson; four great–grandchildren who were the joy of her later years, Carson, Carrington and Cameron Turner and Abby .

Diane James, 45, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at her residence. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 307 Philadelphia St., Hartsville.

LAMAR — Mary Peoples died on Saturday Aug. 28, 2004, at MeLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. The family will receive friends at the home of her son at 565 Hammer Road. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar.
ALICE BYRD
DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Alice Lee Byrd, 83, were held at 1 p.m. Monday in Antioch cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Miss Byrd died Saturday August 28, 2004. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late John Lafayette and Nora Boyd Byrd. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are nephews, Wade Ammons and Harold Dickson of Sylacauga, Ala.; nieces, Catherine Fritch of Raleigh, N.C., Pam Hill of York, Lenora Weaver of Mathews, Ala., Mary Lou Blackmon of North Myrtle Beach and Rose Blackmon of Darlington; also, 18 great–nephews and nieces and two sisters–in–law.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Boyd, J.L., Murray, Julian and Bill Byrd and sisters Margarite Ammons and Libby Dickson.
KENNETH C. KOPP
Funeral services for Kenneth Charles Kopp, 75, will be held at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 1, 2004, in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Darryl J. Bogatay officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Wiconisco cemetery in Wiconisco, Pa.
Mr. Kopp died Monday, Aug. 30. He was born in Tower City, Pa., a son of the late Charles F. and Mary Sophia Schedle Kopp. He was a retired federal mine inspector, member of the First Church of The Nazarene, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a Mason and a member of the Odd Fellows.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Joann Smith Kopp of Hartsville; daughter, Melissa Jo Row of Hartsville; sons James Kenneth Kopp of Big Stone Gap, Va., John Charles Kopp of Abemarle, N.C.; sisters, Shirley Stuppy, Madge Troutman, Lykens, Pa.; grandchildren, Ty, Ben and Taylor Row and Holly, Zachary, Jesse and Griffin Kopp.

JUNE LITCHFIELD
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for June Mitchell Litchfield, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 1, 2004, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, with interment following in Florence National cemetery.
Mrs. Litchfield died Monday morning, Aug. 30, at her residence. She was born in Spokane, Wash., daughter of the late Eugene and Bessie Finney Mitchell. Mrs. Litchfield was a seamstress and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, Lee Litchfield of Monk's Corner and Tye Litchfield of Macedonia, S.C.; two daughters, Shannon Springs of Macedonia, S.C., and Desiree (Karl) Ethridge of Darlington; nine grandchildren, two great–grandchildren, and two brothers, Gary and Richard Mitchell, both of Spokane, Wash.
The family will receive friends at the home of Desiree and Karl Ethridge, 2657 Cashua Ferry Rd., Darlington.

KEITH ROSCOE
CHESTERFIELD — Graveside services for Keith Roscoe, 81, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Roscoe cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home.
Mr. Roscoe died Saturday, Aug. 28. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late John Walter and Sarah Amelia Henderson Roscoe. He was a retired textile employee and was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include one son, Randy (Betty) Roscoe of Chesterfield; three daughters, Betty Quick, Robbie Lynn Roscoe and Carol Jones, all of Cheraw; former wife, Shirley Davis Roscoe Johnson of Cheraw; one brother, Jarvis Roscoe of Patrick; two sisters, Virginia Roscoe of Hartsville and Mary Lee Josey of Bishopville; six grandchildren and one great–grandchild.
