JEANNE K. HAWKINS
CAMERON - Memorial Service for Jeanne Kelley Hawkins, 67, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bart Dalton officiating.

Ms. Hawkins died Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, at The Regional Medical Center. She was born in Kelleytown, a daughter of the late Ben and Edith Johnson Kelley. She was a retired administrative specialist from S.C.S.U. Ms. Hawkins was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Dedie Hodges of Summerville and Mrs. John L. (Aimee) Godwin of Cameron; five grandchildren, David Roberts, Tiffany Powell, Rhett Hodges, Courtney Powell and John William Godwin.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Godwin, 8207 A Old State Rd., Cameron, SC 29030.

JEFFREY K. CADDELL
Funeral services for Jeffrey Kent Caddell, 45, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 21, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hartsville National League Baseball, Box 544, Hartsville, SC 29551.

Mr. Caddell died Thursday, Jan. 19. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of Willie Joe and the late Shelby Jean Starling Caddell. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was employed with Sonoco Products Co. in the paper mill. He coached the Kiwanis team in the Hartsville National League Baseball.

Surviving are his wife, Michelle Johnson Caddell of Hartsville; sons, Dillon Caddell and Caleb Caddell, both of Hartsville; father of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa Caddell and Nickey Simmons of Lamar, Tabetha Caddell and Tal Windham of Lamar; numerous aunts and uncles.

MARVIN WALTERS
SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for Marvin Thomas Walters, 77, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Harris Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Milton Bradshaw and William Griggs will officiate with burial in Society Hill LDS cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Jan. 20, at the residence, 9914 Patrick-Society Hill Hwy. Memorials may be made to the Society Hill LDS cemetery Fund, Box 497, Society Hill, SC 29593.

Mr. Walters died Thursday, Jan. 19. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Ira and Annie Polson Walters. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are his wife, Hattie Freeman Walters of Society Hill; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Teresa Walters, Dean and Donna Walters, all of Byrdtown, Wayne Walters of Society Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene Walters and Randy Weatherford of Society Hill, Wanda and Frankie Freeman of Hartsville; sister, Mildred Freeman of Johnsonville; special brother-in-law, Ronnie Freeman of Society Hill; best friends, Corbett and Eleanor Gandy of Darlington; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

BARNEY STOKES SR.
Services and burial for Barney Melvin Stokes Sr., 62, were held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Antioch Baptist Church in Kershaw County with the Revs. Joe Long, Sim Smith and Gene Stokes officiating.

Mr. Stokes, who died Jan. 13, was born in Camden, a son of Elma Kennington Stokes and the late William C. Stokes. He was retired from Big Red Fork Lift Parts and was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Charleston.

Surviving are his mother of Camden; wife, Marie Adams Stokes of Hartsville; son, Barney M. Stokes Jr. of Lugoff; daughter, Ava L. Stokes of Hartsville; brothers: the Rev. Gene Stokes, Charles Stokes, Harold Stokes of Camden and James Stokes of Bishopville; sisters, Helen Walls of Camden and Karen Rhodes of Charleston.

DOMINICK P. BATALLER
READING, Pa. - Services for Dominick P. Bataller, 70, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Auman Funeral Home in Reading, Pa. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Twp, Pa.

Mr. Bataller, husband of Mary E. (Dinkelberger) Bataller, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, of natural causes at his residence. Born in Fairmont, W. Va., he was a son of the late John and Maria (Vilone) Bataller. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was employed for more than 35 years at Glidden Co. in Reading, working in production until his retirement. He was a graduate of Reading High School and was a life member of the Reading VFW and the Alsace Fire Company.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Debra L. (Bataller) Busch of Alsace Twp., Susan M. (Bataller) Snyder of Exeter Twp.; sons, Dominick L. Bataller of Hartsville, Scot A. Bataller of Reading; sisters, Rosalee A. (Bataller) Huber of Tampa, Fla., Dolores G. (Bataller) Natale of Mifflinburg, Pa.; brother, Johnnie J. Bataller of West Lawn, Pa.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

RAYMOND GAINEY
SOCIETY HILL - Funeral services for Raymond Ervin Gainey Jr., 38, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 18, 2006, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church. The Revs. Mark Quigley and Tom Rutan will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Gainey died Monday, Jan. 16. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of Lois Atkinson Gainey and the late Raymond Ervin Gainey.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa Jenkins Gainey; daughters, Jessica Leigh Gainey and Kamryn Nicole Gainey; mother; sister, Lisa Gainey; brothers, Richard Gainey and Bill Gainey, all of Society Hill.

MICHAEL McLENDON
Services for Michael McLendon, 49, were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Norton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles McLendon officiating. Burial followed in the Grantham cemetery.

Mr. McLendon died Friday, Jan. 13. He was born in Silver Springs, Md., a son of Carol McLendon and Mary McLendon Dority. He was retired from Wellman Inc. and was a member of the Hartsville Advent Christian Church.

Surviving are his father of Hartsville; mother of Garden City; sons, Michael McLendon, Sr. of Camden, Matthew McLendon of Hartsville; daughters, Carrie and Myranda McLendon, of Camden, Megan Atkinson of Garden City; sister, Denise Locklear of Garden City; brother, Leo McLendon of Hartsville; nine grandchildren; special friend, Cindy Shumate, of Hartsville.

WILLIE T. BRISTER
McBEE - Funeral services for Willie T. Brister, 89, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Brister died Thursday, Jan. 12, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Thomas and Aileen Brown Brister. He received his education in the public schools in the area. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of New Hope Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Retha Mae Murphy Brister of McBee; six daughters, Melissa Rean (Dwayne) Brister, Judith Brister, Jeanette Brister, Willie Mae (David) Price and Sallie Ann (Sandy) Brister, all of McBee, and Florea Scott of Hartsville; six sons, Willie (Jo Ann) Brister Jr., James (Joann) Wesley Brister, John Wesley, Jennings (Patricia) Brister and Ronnie Lee (Tiffany) Brister, all of McBee, and Emanuel (Mary) Brister of Jefferson; 33 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and other close relatives.

ANNIE BELL ROGERS
OATES - Funeral services for Annie Bell Tedder Rogers, 76, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mickey Lloyd officiated with burial in Elim United Methodist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice, 555 E. Cheves, Florence, SC 29506.

Mrs. Rogers, widow of Kenneth Rogers, died Saturday, Jan. 14. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Corbett Truett and Lillie Tedder.

Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Louise Hall of Cassatt, Alfred Rogers and Randy Rogers, both of Oates; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Michael Best of Lydia, Vickie Mathis of Darlington, Brenda and Ricky Davis of Hartsville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

WOODROW M. HALL
Funeral services for Woodrow Marion Hall, 86, were held 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Peter Rivera officiating. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Swift Creek Baptist Church, 413 N. Center Rd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Hall died Saturday, Jan. 14. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Boyd M. and Cora Kirven Hall. Woodrow was a decorated World War II veteran who returned to his beloved Darlington County to farm and operate several businesses. He was owner and operator of Midway Tractor for 40 years. He and his partner, Harold Brasington, built and operated the Darlington International Dragway for 20 years. He was also a partner in the Hartsville-Darlington Speedway. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are his son, Woody Hall of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Kelley, Debra and David Andrews, all of Hartsville; sister, Vivian Hall Howle; grandchildren, Todd Kelley, Jenny McInville, Bridgette Hall, Trey Hall, Barry Andrews, Brad Andrews; great-grandchildren, Josh Kelley, Casey Kelley, Cody Kelley, Makayla McInville, Andrew Mattox, Chase Hall, Tanner Hall, Carson Andrews; special friend and care giver, Verma Bostic. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ora Delle Pate Hall; brother, James P. Hall; sister, Frances Timmons.

CARROLL GRIGGS SR.
Graveside services for Carroll Lonnie Griggs Sr., 88, were held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in Magnolia cemetery. The Rev. Robert Morris officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Griggs, widower of Mildred Outlaw Griggs, died Sunday, Jan. 15. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Ham Walter and Alma Adams Griggs. He was retired as owner and operator of Carroll Griggs Plumbing & Electrical. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the DAV.

Surviving are his son, Carroll 'Bubba' Griggs of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Wilson Bateman of Hartsville; sisters, Vista Morse of Tecumseh, Mich., Elizabeth Sauer of Monroe, Wis., Sarah 'Nellie' Braddock of Columbia; a brother, H.W. Griggs Jr.; grandchildren, Kay Moore Howle, Kathy Moore Hendrix; great-grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Stamey and Haley Kathlene Howle.

BLANCH PETERSON
LYDIA - Funeral services for Blanch Peterson, 88, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Peterson died Thursday, Jan. 12, at McLeod Hospice House after an illness. She was born in Lee County, a daughter of the late Hart and Hattie McKnight. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc.

Surviving are her husband, Blease Peterson of Lydia; two daughters, Inez (Calvin) McDowell of Lynchburg and Bertha (James) Peterson of Hartsville; a son, Isaac Peterson Sr. of Lydia; 14 grandchildren, Martha (Robert) McCall, Helen (Ronnie) Gilmore, David Mack, Richard (Tara) Mack, Diane Mack, Jimmy Peterson, Rebecca Peterson, Soloman Mack, Alice (Tracy) Rogers, Isaac (Redina) Peterson Jr., Angela Peterson, Samuel Mack, Katherine (Joe) Thomas and Harley 'Paul' (Sabrina) Peterson; 21 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

JESSIE THOMAS HALL
Funeral services for Jessie M. Thomas Hall were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Nazareth New Apostolic Church. Burial followed in the New Haven United Methodist Church cemetery in Bishopville, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville, with Bishop Vera M. Davis officiating the services.

Jessie M. Thomas Hall, better known as 'Bobbie Girl, ' was born in Hartsville, the daughter of Eddie Coker Thomas Sr. and the late Grace McFadden Thomas. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Butler High School in 1963. She was the Butler High School Homecoming Queen in 1962 and was 'Miss Butler' in 1963. She was elected 'Most Friendly' by her classmates during her senior year. She was the first female student to drive a school bus at Butler High School.

After graduation from high school, Mrs. Hall continued her education at Cortez Peters Business College in Washington, D.C., and at Howard University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1967. She then accepted a position with United Airlines in Los Angeles, Calif. She lived there for a short time before moving to Chicago, Ill., after receiving a promotion from United Airlines. She remained with the company as a loyal employee for more than 37 years. She retired in January, 2005.

Jessie was raised in a Christian home and was a former member of New Haven United Methodist Church. She received Christ as her personal savior at an early age.

Surviving to cherish Jessie's loving memory include her daughter, Brandi Daniels and Brandi's father, Paul Daniels; her father, Eddie Coker Thomas Sr. of Lydia; five sisters, Janie Thomas, Veronica Thomas, and Carolyn Thomas, all of Hartsville, Rosa (Melvin) Gerald of Darlington and Deborah Thomas of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, the Rev. Eddie (Corine) Thomas of Sumter, Frank (Barbara) Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., and Joseph (Dianne) Thomas of Meriden, Conn.; her mother-in-law, Ivan C. 'Bigmama' Daniels of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Alfrieda Morris, Ethel Arnita Daniels and Wilma Gray all of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers-in-law, Ivan D. Daniels, Nathan Daniels, John Daniels, and Vance Ketchens all of Chicago, Ill., other nieces, nephews, close relatives and very dear friends.

MARY A. MONAHAN
FLORENCE - A graveside service for Mrs. Mary Alice Huggins Monahan, was held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in Cedardale cemetery of Mullins, directed by Cain Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue D, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. Mrs. Monahan, wife of Donald Monahan, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, in a local hospital. She was born March 27, 1940, in Alabama, to the late Freeman and Frances Parker Nichols. She was predeceased by her first husband, Avery Huggins. She was a retired nurse, a loving wife, a caring mother and a grandmother. Among her survivors, in addition to her husband, are daughters, Dawn (Michael) Holland of Florence and Mary Cox of Mullins; son, Johnny (Jennifer) Sanders of Hartsville; step-daughter, Patty (Chris) Crosby of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

JOE L. MILLER
KERSHAW - Funeral services for Joe Lewis Miller, 66, were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Cross Road Baptist Church with the Rev.Ronnie Blakeney officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery, directed by Crawford Funeral Home of Lancaster. Mr. Miller died Sunday, Jan. 8. He was the son of the late Frances Sowell and L. D. Miller. He was retired from Brick Mfg. Survivors are a son, Bobby Joe Miller of Kershaw; a daughter, Lashun Miller of McBee; seven sisters, Dorris Phillips, Ethel Miller, Alma Neal and Janice Miller, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty Jones of Heath Springs, Minister Carolyn Catoe of Kershaw and Vanessa (Melroid) Lynn of Ft. Lawn; three brothers, Billy (Carolyn) Miller of Jefferson, Levy (Dorothy) Miller and Lawrence Miller, both of Kershaw.

WILLIAM JACOBS JR.
Funeral services for William E. Jacobs Jr., 69, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 13, 2006, at Lawson Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mr. Jacobs died Saturday, Jan. 7. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Martin and Charlotte Lighty Jacobs. He received his education in the area and was a member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Alice Ross Jacobs; one daughter, Linda J. Jacobs, both of Hartsville; one sister, Alberta Ross of Yonkers, N.Y.; three brothers, the Rev. Martin (Estelle) Jacobs Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Lawrence (Betty) Jacobs of Hartsville and Willie Jacobs of Annapolis, Md.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a host of other close relatives.

LESLIE JENNINGS
BISHOPVILLE - Services and burial for Leslie Jennings (Jink) Blackwell, 81, will be held today, Jan. 13, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Savannah Advent Christian Church, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel. Mr. Blackwell, who died Jan. 10, was born in Chesterfield, a son of the late Willie A. and Leona McKenzie Blackwell. He was retired from Reeves Brothers, was a member of Savannah Advent Christian Church and was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Grantham Blackwell of Bishopville; niece and husband, Sharon and Danny Elvis of Bishopville; nephews and wife, Kim and Debra Grantham of Bishopville, Billy Grantham and Ricky Grantham, both of Hartsville; several great-nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Savannah Advent Christian Church Building Repair Fund, 1948 Ashland Stokes Bridge Road, Bishopville, SC 29010.

ANTWAN TUCKER
Funeral services for Antwan Tucker, 27, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 13, 2006, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Mr. Tucker died Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Barbara Robinson and Clyde Burns Jr. He received his education in the public schools in the area. Surviving other than his mother Barbara Robinson of Columbia and his father, Clyde Burns Jr. of Darlington are two children, Qutilia Byrd and Raheem Poston, both of Society Hill; four sisters, Melinda (Robert) Samuel of Charlotte, N.C., Tabitha (Levern) Smith and Laporche Burns, both of Hartsville and Regina Scott of Society Hill; three brothers, Henry (Shakia) Tucker and Lanorris (Lavelle) Gurley, both of Hartsville, and Antonio (Sharon) Jones of Society Hill; maternal grandfather, James Tucker Sr.; paternal grandmother, Sally Burns; a fiance', Tawanna Bell; a host of other close relatives and friends.
