RUTHIE MAE ADDISON
Mrs. Addison died Monday, Jan. 9, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Jessie and Jannie Johnson Rivers. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of Kingsville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four children, Mary Frances Rivers of Columbia, Jessie James of Meyers, Marie (David) Goodson and Willie Lee Brown, both of Hartsville; one sister, Frances Rivers of Lydia; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and other close relatives.

JOSEPH W. HODGE
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was a son of the late Orville and Ida Hodge. Joey's courage was an inspiration to everyone in his life. His miraculous 25-year survival is a direct result of God's grace and his mother's love and care.
Joey is survived by his three brothers, Richard Hodge and wife, Loretta Jones Hodge, David Hodge and wife, Karen Segars Hodge, and Orville Hodge Jr.; his three sisters, Judy Gray, Eva Brooks and husband, Mike, and special sister Peggy Blevins who cared for him after the passing of his beloved mother. He is also survived by his special sister-in-love, Gayla Hodge, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service was conducted at 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Waycaster officiating. The committal service and entombment followed at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 9, in the Mountain View cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with R. C. Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Brain Injury Association of America, 8201 Greensboro Dr., Suite 611, McLean, VA 22102.
Akard Funeral Home, 1912 W. State St., Bristol, TN 37620 (423) 989-4800, is serving the family of Joseph 'Joey' Hodge.
JANNIE BELL LARRY
Mrs. Larry died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Burrell and Bell McCoy Roary. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was retired from Wellman. She was a member of Kay Branch Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Loretta (Norris) Evans of Hartsville; four sons, James Larry Jr., Kevin Timothy Larry and Keith (Aurelia) Larry, all of Hartsville, and Lonnie Earl Larry of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Ruby Mack and Bobbie Jean (Roy) Evans, both of Durham, N.C., and Betty Lou (June) Phillips of McBee; two brothers, Burrell Roary Jr. of Newbern, N.C., and Bobby (Willie Mae) Roary of McBee; two uncles, Frank Roary and Bishop James McCoy; one aunt, Mary McCoy; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of other close relatives and friends.
ROBBIE B. BROWN
Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, Jan. 3, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Erwin, Tenn., daughter of the late William and Ollie Blankenship Bailey. She was a nurse at Wilson Hospital, Florence General Hospital and then McLeod Hospital until her retirement. Mrs. Brown was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, David (Karen) Brown of Texas; daughter, Sharon Brown of Florence; and two brothers, Bill Bailey and Fred Bailey.

MARY MONTGOMERY
Mrs. Montgomery passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Presbyterian Home in Florence, after a long illness. Mary was born in Sumter, the first of seven children born to the late Annette Taylor Wells and Winburn Lawton Wells. She earned a triple major in English, biology and math with honors from Winthrop College in 1935. She taught school for more than 30 years, English and math in junior high, the fourth grade, seventh grade and even kindergarten. She excelled as a teacher and thrived on the interaction with her students. She was the consummate teacher - both in and out of the classroom. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the First Presbyterian Church, was Regent of the Major Robert Lide Chapter of DAR, was a founding member of Pine and Lake Garden Club, and served on many committees in the community. She lived a life of service, graciousness, excellence and strength.
Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Henry DuBose Montgomery, and by two sisters, Evelyn Wells Hughey and Nettie Wells Shelley.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeannette Alexander and husband John of Hartsville, and by her son Henry DuBose Montgomery Jr. and wife Nancy of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren, J. Robert Alexander Jr., MD, and wife Tracie of Mt. Pleasant; Mimi Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; and Tracy and Courtney Montgomery of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; and two great-grandsons, Robert Cole and Aidan Wells Alexander of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition, Mrs. Montgomery is survived by five of her siblings, Edith Wells Watson of Orlando, Fla., Louise Wells Wilbur of Jasper, Ga., Lawton Wells of Elgin and Edna Wells Boyd of Albuquerque, N.M.
PEGGY T. EDWARDS
BETTE LYSZ
Mrs. Lysz, widow of Edward Lysz, died Saturday, Jan. 7. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Preston and Bessie Hall Morrison.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. Jeffords and Ricky Weatherford of Florence; sister, Willene Gardner of Rock Hill; brothers, Howard E. 'Gene' Morrison, Lloyd F. Morrison, and Robert B. Morrison, all of Hartsville, Edward Harrell Morrison of Monroe, N.C., Bruce H. Morrsion of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Weatherford. She was predeceased by her son, Garrett Lysz.
WILLIAM F. TEAL SR.
Mr. Teal, who died Jan. 6, was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Sandy and Lula Byrd Teal. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the Chesterfield County School System.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Tolson Teal; son, William F. Teal Jr., both of Patrick; niece, Cherith Vansickle of Sumter; granddaughter, Kristen Cox of Maryland.

CLYDE SPIVEY
Mr. Spivey died Friday, Jan. 6, in a local hospital. He was born in Dillon County, son of the late John Dewey 'J.D.' and Fannie Brewer Spivey. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and then was the owner and operator of Spivey's Appliance. Mr. Spivey attended First Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Maudell Foxworth Anderson Spivey; son, Billy (Mary) Spivey of Darlington; grandson, Chris (Lynn) Spivey; a great-grandchild, Lauren Spivey; two step-sons, Jay (Barbara) Anderson of Florence and Tony (Rachel) Anderson of Darlington; two brothers, Robert Spivey of Darlington and Victor Spivey of Florence; sister, Marie McManus of Atlanta, Ga.; a number of nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie J. Spivey, and a stepson, Boyd Anderson.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
MACK RICHARDSON
Mr. Richardson passed away Friday, Jan. 6, at his residence. He was born in Sumter, son of the late Norman Selby and Lucile Ingram Richardson Sr. He graduated from St. John's High School in 1953. He was a member of the National Honor Society, served as a marshal and played on the football and baseball teams. He was chosen to play in the Tobacco Bowl in 1953. Upon graduation, he attended The Citadel and then went to work with his father in the family monument business.
Mr. Richardson was a member of First Baptist Church and has served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and director of the Baptist Training Union. He has been a member of the Sanctuary Choir for 52 years.
He served with the South Carolina Army National Guard for 42 years. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Club and has served as president, and has been treasurer for the past 22 years.
Mr. Richardson was a past president of the Darlington Lions Club and was awarded 'Lion of the Year' in 1970-71.
He was a member of the Darlington Masonic Lodge No. 72 and served as past master in 1963. He was a former member of the Omar Shrine Club and the Red Fez Club, and held several offices.
Mr. Richardson was listed in the 1972 edition of 'Outstanding Personalities of the South.'
He was well known for his Christmas decorations and was featured in the Morning News, the News and Press and on television. He was given the 'Key to the City' on Dec. 6, 2005, for his 'labor of love' for 45 years.
Mr. Richardson enjoyed his grandchildren, collecting trains, watching NASCAR races, fishing, and in the past, golf.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Dawn English Richardson; a son, Jon Michael 'Mike' Richardson; two daughters, Robin R. Pietarinen of Darlington and Brenda R. (Ricky) Barron of Duncan; a brother, Dr. Norman S. Richardson Jr. of Hilton Head and seven grandchildren.

MARIO FARANO
Mr. Farano, a resident at Morningside Assisted Living in Hartsville, died Jan. 2, at the Hospice House, Florence. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept 6, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Nancy Labartino Farano, and he grew up in Queens, N.Y. He served in the USAAF, was stationed in Homestead Air Force Base Homestead, Fla., from 1942-1945, and was discharged with an Honorable Discharge.
During his retirement years he had two passions. One was to learn to cook. After he mastered the art of Italian cooking, he wanted to share his food with his family, neighbors and friends. The second passion was to learn how to paint. Therefore, all his friends, family members and doctors have shared some of his work. As his cooking and painting decreased, his sense of humor increased, which kept the staff Morningside and McLeod Hospice on their toes.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Vern Myers of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Peg Farano of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Michelle Wrona of Hartsville, Angela (Derek) Strickler of Manitou Springs, Colo., Christopher (Stacy) Myers of River Falls, Wis., and Betsy Myers (Stacy) of Tulsa Okla.; great-grandchildren, Jake, Dylan, Connor, Molly, Emma, Andy, Matt and Katy.
