Mr. Nesbitt died Sunday, May 14. He was born in Dillon County, son of the late Heyward Nesbitt Sr. and Ruth Smith Nesbitt Hudson. He served his country with the United States Air Force and had worked in the steel industry. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Norma F. Nesbitt of Darlington; son, Franklin Todd Nesbitt also of Darlington; daughter, Holly Michelle Nesbitt of Sumter; brother, Bill Nesbitt of Laurel Hill, N.C.; and two sisters, Viola Bavitz of Surfside Beach and Gladys Misner of Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Nesbitt was preceded in death by a daughter, Miranda Nesbitt; three brothers, Herman, Jerry and Cletus Nesbitt, and sister, Mildred Jackson.

EDELLE CARTER
Mrs. Carter, widow of Walter Earl Carter, died Sunday, May 14, in the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee in Florence. She was born in Lee County, July 24, 1909, daughter of the late Wayne Austin and Clyde DuBose King. The family moved to Darlington County shortly after her birth. She received her education in the Lamar schools and Winthrop College.
Mrs. Carter was an active member of Lamar United Methodist Church and served as President of the Burnie-Sue Sunday School Class for 15 years. She was a member of the Coker-Pate Circle and the Sue Stewart Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Iris Garden Club and also belonged to the Lamar Book and Canasta Club and the Lamar Sew and Chat Club. She loved her church and enjoyed all phases of church work along with sewing and gardening.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and John McKissick of Summerville and Linda and Marvin Slaughter of Florence; daughter-in-law, Sylvia L. Carter; seven grandchildren, Debbie and Rick Call of Summerville, Cindy and Donny McElveen of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mark and Twanda Carter, Carla and Dan Mann, Scott Carter, Marvin E. (Sonny) and Marla Slaughter, all of Florence, Andrew (Andy) and Christy Slaughter of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Richard and Aly Call of Anderson, Joe and Elizabeth Call of Charleston, Kyle McElveen of Winston-Salem, N.C., Megan Carter, Matthew Carter, both of Columbia, Mark Carter Jr., Mara Carter, Kirsten Mann and Trent Mann, all of Florence, Drew Slaughter, Mary Hagen Slaughter, both of Columbia. She is also survived by one niece and four nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her son, Walter Earl (Bud) Carter Jr., four brothers and their wives, James A. and Ruth King of Columbia, Marvin W. and Frances King of Lamar, Bizzan D. and Helen King of Florence and Wayne A. and Anne King of Surfside Beach.

CHARLES R. MIMS
Mr. Mims died Friday, April 28, in a Florence hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Maisie Smothers Mims and the late Gary Elbert Mims. He was a 1967 graduate of Hartsville High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was formerly employed by Sonoco Products of Hartsville, General Electric of Florence and was employed by Jacob Plumbing at the time of his death.
Surviving are his mother of Hartsville; a son, Gregory Sellers of Florence; two daughters, Christie (George) Mills of Myrtle Beach and Jennifer Mims of Florence; grandchildren, Jennifer Brooke Mims of Florence, David Mills and Christian Mills of Myrtle Beach; brother, Gary (Judith) Mims of Darlington; and two nieces, Haylea (Daniel) Jordan of Florence and Dr. Schuyler K. Mims of Isle of Palms.

LEALER MAE HAMMONDS
Mrs. Hammonds was born Sept. 25, 1916, in Darlington County to the late Fess and Laney Williams. She died May 10, at the McLeod Hospice House after an illness.
She was educated in the Darlington County school system and was a homemaker for most of her years. She was a lifelong, dedicated member of Lawson Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years in the Senior Choir and the Missionary Society until her health declined.
Her spouse, Dewey Sr., a son, Dewey Jr., two brothers, Eugene and Jim Williams, a sister, Mary Samuel, and a grandson, Nathaniel Coe, preceded Mrs. Hammonds in death.
She leaves to celebrate her life, three daughters, Dorothy (Cleveland) McBride and Betty (Richard - deceased) Coe both of Hartsville, and Theressa Bess of Darlington; one son, Freddie (Leila) Hammonds of Hartsville; a devoted daughter-in-law, Pearlie M. Hammonds of Darlington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Robbie Williams of Darlington, Julia (Robert) Ingram of Los Angeles, Calif., Kate Foster of White Plains, N.Y., and Charles (Doris) Hammonds of Darlington; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
HENRIETTA HENDERSON
Mrs. Henderson was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Dalzell, a daughter of Maggie Graham Butler and Paul Butler. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She worked for many years for the Horne family in Hartsville and later worked for the Timberlake family in Hartsville.
Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary AME Church. She organized the Usher Board at the church and served for many years. She also served on the Missionary Society, the Stewardess Board and supported all of the programs of her church.
'Doll, ' as she was known to family and friends, will be remembered as the lady that baked the good cakes. She was a kind and generous person and always greeted everyone with that loving smile.
Her husband, John Henderson, a sister, Alma Toby, her nephews, Paul Toney and George Butler, all preceded her in death.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Henrietta 'Doll' Henderson are her sister, Annie L. Toney; her step-daughter, Marie Sparks; three nieces, Margaret Ervin, Jean Robinson and Barbara Bethel; three nephews, Clifton Toney, William Toney and James K. McIver; special cousins, the DuRant family; a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other relatives and many loving and dear friends.
T. B. NORTHCUTT JR.
Mr. Northcutt died Wednesday, May 10. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Timothy Benjamin and Caroline King Northcutt Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Northcutt of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy B. and Laura Northcutt III of Lexington; sister, Bee Ham of Hartsville; stepsons and daughter-in-law, James Sumner of Hartsville, Clifton and Karen Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va.; daughter-in-law, Kim Northcutt of Hartsville; grandchildren, Mallory Northcutt and Caroline Northcutt, both of Hartsville, Paige Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va., Chase Sumner of Martinsburg, W. Va. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
JAMES BEASLEY
Mr. Beasley departed this life Thursday, May 4, after an extended illness. He was born April 5, 1929, in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Manley and Mary Alford Beasley.
Mr. Beasley's parents died while he was a baby and left behind their eight children. His aunt, Lula Chavis, took him and his siblings in and raised them as their own. The Chavis children and the Beasley children grew up as brothers and sisters with lots of love and affection for each other.
At age 15, he moved to Washington, D.C., and lived with other relatives and continued high school through the 11th grade. He then enlisted in the United States Army and spent five years in the military and was honorably discharged. Afterwards, he lived in New York and met Frances McCollough. After a year and a half, they were married
and this union was blessed with three children, Michael, Daryl and Ursula.
Mr. Beasley lived in New York for nearly 50 years before relocating to Joppa, Md. While in New York, he worked as a shipping manager for Union Air Transport at JFK Airport for 20 years. Since 1990, Mr. Beasley has battled a number of illnesses, but through it all he kept a positive attitude and outlook.
Surviving to cherish the wonderful memory of James Beasley and prolong his legacy are his wife of nearly 47 years, Frances McCollough Beasley; his three children, Michael Beasley, Ursula Beasley and Daryl Beasley; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Beasley-Davis, Mazie Beasley-Anderson, Queen Chavis-Evans, Lula M. Chavis-Hines and Louise Chavis-Hooks; his brothers, James Chavis, Calvin Chavis, Edward Beasley and Manley Beasley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and very dear friends.
RICHARD MOODY
Mr. Moody died Saturday, May 6. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late Eugene Andrew 'Pete' and Eleanor Haynes Moody. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was then employed by Dixie Cup. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, country music and gathering with his many friends. He attended Black Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Tammy Moody McNamara of Darlington; his son, Richard L. 'Ricky' Moody Jr. of Darlington; a grandchild, Haley Brooks McNamara; and sister, Jane Moody Turner of Florence.
Mr. Moody was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne E. Moody.
EUGENE COTTON JR.
Mr. Cotton died Tuesday, May 9, at McLeod Hospice House after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Eugene and Lois Graham Cotton Sr. He received his education in the public schools in the area.
Surviving are five sisters, Earline Cotton, Connie Cotton, Beverly (Lucious) Howard and Lois Cotton, all of Hartsville, Pandora (Zeek) Scott of Darlington; two brothers, Ervin (Joyce) Cotton and Ronnie Cotton, both of Hartsville; three aunts, Lillie Robinson of Baltimore, Md., Elzenia W. Benjamin and Dolly Hawkins, both of Hartsville; one uncle, John Cotton of Pinehurst, N.C.; nieces, nephews and a host of other close relatives and friends.
DALE 'TEE' CROSS
Mr. Cross died Friday, May 5, at his residence. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Austin Charles and Cora Jordan Cross.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Teague Cross of Darlington; three daughters, Cindy Cross of Wilson, N.C., Susan C. (Matt) Ballengee of Greenville, N.C., Cathy C. Tsintzos of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a granddaughter, Phoebe Teeters of Charlotte, N.C.; and a brother, Harvey Cross of Chadburn, N.C.
Mr. Cross was preceded in death by a brother, James Cross.

HATTIE WALTERS
Mrs. Walters, widow of Marvin Thomas Walters, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Della Edwards Freeman. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Teresa Walters, Dean and Donna Walters all of Byrdtown, Wayne Walters of Society Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene Walters and Randy Weatherford of Society Hill, Wanda and Frankie Freeman of Hartsville; sisters, Hallie McNatt of Bishopville, Nancy Dixon of Camden, Doris Flury of Florence, Linda Howle of Byrdtown, Faye Howle of Society Hill; brothers, Ronnie Freeman, Delmas Freeman, Carroll Freeman, all of Society Hill; special friends, Corbett and Eleanor Gandy of Darlington; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. .
