JAMES TALBERT
Funeral services for James Archie Talbert, 73, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2006, at Florence National cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Talbert died Thursday, April 13. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Curtis Easterling Talbert and the late Wade Henry Talbert. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a POW for 36 months. He was a member of the DAV Chapter 47.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Key Talbert of Bethune; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Michael Hicks of Hartsville, Capt. Cindy Talbert, U.S. Navy of Memphis, Tenn., Misty and Richard Johnson of Hartsville; sisters, Vera Mae Robinson of Florence, Miriam Watson of Darlington; brothers, Darrell Talbert of Florence, W. E. Talbert of Hartsville; step-sons and spouses, James E. Ray of Cassatt, Charles and Paula Sullivan Jr. of Hartsville; five grandchildren.

RUTH BROWN
Funeral services for Ruth Haire Brown, 85, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. The Rev. Scott Petry officiated with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown. Widow of James L. 'Bill' Brown, died Thursday, April 13. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Owens and Mary Shoemake Haire. She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2349 Lynches Dr., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, James 'Bo' and Hilda Brown, Johnny and Anne Brown, Charles Brown, all of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce B. and Jerald Walters of Hartsville; sisters, Elizabeth Griggs and Ellen Flowers, both of Hartsville; grandchildren, Cammie Watford, Connie Griffitts, Paige Phelps, Crystal Brown, Richie Walters; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Walters.

ELIZABETH LUCAS
Funeral services for Elizabeth Lucas, 89, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Kelly Bell United Methodist Church. Burial followed services in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lucas died Friday, April 14, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Bobby and Martha Blakney Jackson. She received her education in Darlington County public school system and was a member of Kelly Bell United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lucas served as church secretary and as a Sunday school teacher as well as a choir member and a missionary.

Surviving are two daughters, Martha L. (the Rev. Monel) Smith and Annie Jo Murray, both of Hartsville; one sister, Lula Mae Newman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Giovanna S. Kelley and Phylesia Z. Murray, both of Hartsville, and Renee S. Johnson of Orangeburg; five great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Jessie Brown Chavis of Hartsville; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

MARY McIVER
Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Daniels McIver were held at 1 p. m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Centerville AME Church. The burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. J.L. Rouse, the pastor of the church, officiated the services.

Mrs. McIver, was a devoted wife and mother. The example she lived day by day will forever be a goal for her family to strive to reach. She was a wonderful person, who touched the lives of many people in the Centerville Community. She was a member of Centerville A.M.E. Church.

She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Artesia Peoples Daniels and David Daniels of Lamar. When she was seven, she and her family moved to Hartsville. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.

All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Her husband of 53 years, Howard William McIver, also preceded her in death. She was always faithful to God and the church. Her memory will continue to remain in our lives and hearts.

'Can, ' as she was sometimes called, leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Rosalind Mason and Sonobby McIver, both of Hartsville, and Lila Marsh of Florence; four sons, Donald (Willie Mae) Daniels, William McIver, Gregory McIver, all of Hartsville, and John (Maxine) Daniels of New York, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; an adopted daughter Rena James; an adopted grandson, Dennis Yeboah; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close relatives and friends.

LUCILLE G. ROGERS
Services for Lucille Gainey Rogers, 85, will be held today, April 14, 2006, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Burial will be in McBee cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers, widow of Hardy J. Rogers Sr., died on Wednesday, April 12. She was born in McBee the daughter of the late Gilliam and Liddie Dixon Gainey. Surviving are her daughter, Lydia M. Cumbee of North Charleston; his son, Hardy Rogers Jr. of Cassatt; sisters, Alice Blackwell of Chesterfield and Alma King Hartsville.

BETTE W. BURGARD
Memorial services for Bette West Burgard, 79, who died March 30, 2006, were held Thursday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Mike Blankenship and Mr. Terry Buchanan officiated, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Mrs. Burgard was born in Pardoe, Penn., the daughter of Lena Ziccardi West and the late Jesse West. She was a member of the First Church Of The Nazarene.

Surviving are her mother of Hartsville; husband, Albert E. Burgard Jr. of Hartsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Margurite and Wayne Buchanan of Clearwater, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church Of The Nazarene Children's Ministry, PO Box 1092, Hartsville, SC 29551.

GAIL MORRISON
PELZER - Memorial services for Gail Dickerson Morrison, 63, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, April 14, 2006, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Roy Porter officiating.

Mrs. Morrison died Saturday, April 8, at her home. She was born in Pelzer, a daughter of Mildred Harris Willimon and the late Norwood Dickerson.

Surviving are her mother of Greenville; daughters, Harris Morrison and Greer Morrison of Greenville; a grandchild Macgregor Berg of Greenville; a brother of Cayce. She was the mother of the late Robert Coleman Morrison.

The family is at the home of her daughters, Harris and Greer Morrison, 136 Buist Ave., Greenville.

Memorials may be made to Greenville Child Abuse Center, 2905 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

A child advocate, she was a devoted grandmother and homemaker.

DAMON SMITH
Damon Antonio Smith died on Sunday, April 9, 2006, from injuries received in an automobile accident. The family will receive friends at both 2010 Windsong Drive and 461 Seminole Drive. Hines Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

KIMBERLY DIXON
Funeral services for Kimberly Jane Dixon, 24, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church.

The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated, with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Ms. Dixon died Saturday, April 8. Born in Cheraw, she was a daughter of James Allen Dixon and the late Stephanie Bryant Dixon.

Surviving are her daughters, O'Livia Freeman and Arionna Freeman of Chesterfield; father of Cheraw; sisters, Ashley Dixon and Stephanie Smith, both of Cheraw; aunts, Elaine Lewis and Teresa Winburn, both of Hartsville; uncle, Danny Dixon of Cheraw.

J. C. McKENZIE
Funeral services for J. C. McKenzie, 67, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Grover Johnson officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery.

Mr. McKenzie died Friday, April 7. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Junius Newton and Mary Bell Shaw McKenzie. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and was retired form Sonoco Products Co.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Sinclair McKenzie of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Russ Wacker of Hartsville, Linda and Dale Mangum of Gastonia, N.C.; sisters, Carolyn Alexander of Hartsville, Claudia James of Hartsville, Mary Josey of Hartsville, Betty Talbert of Myrtle Beach, JoAnn Mozingo of Atlanta, Ga., Geseil Keller of Raleigh, N.C., Bobbie McNeese of Myrtle Beach, Penny Hall of Hartsville; brothers, Bill McKenzie, Beasley McKenzie, Tommy McKenzie, all of Hartsville; step-mother, Joyce McKenzie of Hartsville; grandchildren, Melissa McKenzie and Chris Wacker.

J.D. GRIGGS JR.
Funeral services for J.D. Griggs Jr., 58, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006, in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery.

Mr. Griggs died Tuesday, April 11, in a local hospital. He was born in Darlington County, son of Hallie Freeman G. McNatt and the late J.D. Griggs. J.D. retired from Nucor Steel and enjoyed fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his mother and step-father, Veron and Hallie McKnatt of Bishopville; his wife, Bonnie Ogburn Griggs; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Karian Griggs of Florence; two granddaughters, Kara and Karlyn Griggs; a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Monkie Griggs of Dovesville; a half-sister, Lisa Hodge of Lugoff; a special friend, Tony Cassidy, who was like a son to J.D.

Mr. Griggs was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Homan.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, April 12, at Belk Funeral Home and other times at the home of Bonnie and J.D. Griggs, 352 N. Center Road, Hartsville.

Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC, 29506.

JIMMY LEE BOOTH
Jimmy Lee Booth, brother of Kenneth Allen McNeal, died at McLeod Regional Medical Center on Monday, April 10, 2006, after an illness. The family will receive friends at the residence. Hines Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.

JOE CADDELL
McBEE - Services for Joe Caddell, 64, who died April 6, 2006, were held Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m. at Pine Ridge Holiness Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Joe was born in Hartsville a son of the late Beauford Caddell Sr. and Mary Brown Caddell. He was a member of Pine Ridge Holiness Church and retired from Talley Metals. Surviving are daughters, Tabby Windham and Lisa Simmons of Lamar; sisters: Lourene Davis, Amanda Caddell of McBee, Drucilla Clemenger of Hartsville, Joyce Banks of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Bob Caddell and Gerald Parker of McBee, Frank and Barney Parker of Hartsville; daughter-in-law, Michell Caddell of Hartsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Starling Caddell; son, Jeffery Kent Caddell; brother, Beauford Caddell Jr.

JACK Y. SOWELL
Funeral services for Jack Youlden Sowell, 72, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 12, 2006, at Hartsville Church of God.

Burial will be in McBee cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Sowell, who died April 10, was born in McBee, the son of the late Levi Wilson and Aline Davis Sowell. He was a member of McBee Baptist Church, Sandhills Classic Car Club, McBee Masonic Lodge No. 313, and a veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian Teal Sowell of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-laws, Motsy and Timmy Hill of Chesterfield, Paula and Ken Lawhon of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheila Petty of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Kenny Segars of McBee; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Sowell was predeceased by sons, Jack Sowell Jr. and Will Sowell; and a grandson, Derrick Wayne Sowell.

Memorials may be made to the Hartsville Church Of God, 824 Fox Hollow Drive, Hartsville, SC, 29550.

HORTON GEDDINGS
PAXVILLE - Funeral services for Horton Edward 'Buddy' Geddings, 63, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial followed in Paxville Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Geddings, husband of Joyce Holley Geddings, died Saturday, April 8, in Paxville. He was born Nov. 30, 1942, in Manning, a son of Eva Mae Geddings Bradsher and the late Donald Geddings. He was employed by Wal-Mart and was a member of Paxville Baptist Church.

Surviving, beside his wife and mother of Paxville, are two sons, Horton Edward 'Ed' Geddings Jr. and his fiance, Alecia of Oak Island, N.C., and Michael Jason Geddings of Sumter and friend, Jessica Lyons; two brothers, Larry Van Geddings of Picayune, Miss., and Donald Ray Geddings of Santee; two sisters, Penny Kay Brown of Columbia and Marie Bradsher Davis of Manning.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Odella Geddings; and a nephew, Jacob Davis.

Pallbearers were Jamie Corbett, Harry Lee Bryant II, Lee Davis, Eric McCall, Drew Casselman and Gerald Galloway.
