Private graveside Services for Robert Jerome McCoy, 56, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Westview Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Dave Worthington officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. McCoy died Friday, March 17. Born in McBee, he was a son of the late William L. and Lizzie Lyles McCoy. He was retired from Hatchell's Salvage.

Surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and John E. Spell, Lou Ann and Jessie Wilkes Jr., 'Candy' and Kenneth Johnson, Carolyn and the Rev. Billy Campbell, all of Hartsville; nephews, Chuck Spell, Jeff Wilkes, Lee Johnson, Lance Johnson, Paul McCaskill, all of Hartsville; niece, Heather Howell; great nephews, Seth Spell, Ryan McCaskill, all of Hartsville; great nieces, Courtney Wilkes, Celeste Wilkes, all of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Willie Faye McCoy.

'SKEET' WALLACE
Funeral services for Merlin Rayford 'Skeet' Wallace, 67, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Gum Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Gardner officiated with burial in the Society Hill LDS cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross - Pee Dee Chapter, 1601-A W. Lucas St., Florence, SC 29501.

Mr. Wallace died Sunday, March 19. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Hattie Hodge King and the late Hanford McIver Wallace. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Wilson Wallace of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Connie Wallace of Hartsville, Scott and Chiquita Wallace of Tomball, Texas, 'Skeet' Wallace of Hartsville, Merlin 'Buzzy' Wallace; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and James Redfearn of Hartsville, Kim and Billy McInville of Darlington, Kelly and Henry Moree of Society Hill; mother of Hartsville; brothers, Ernest Wallace of Hartsville, Tommy Wallace of Manning; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Junior Wallace; daughters, Debbie Wallace and Ann Wallace.

ETHEL L. WHITLEY
Graveside services for Ethel Lewis Whitley, 67, were held 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, in Brannon cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cockrell officiating, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.

Mrs. Whitley, widow of Donald Whitley, died Friday, March 17. She was born in Lena, La., the daughter of Allie Mae Lewis and the late Mack Lewis. She was retired from Kendall and a member of Bethune Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, loving and gentle mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Our Angel on earth who made a difference in the lives of those she touched.

Surviving are her mother of Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Ralph Gainey of Lugoff; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Brenda Whitley of Hartsville; four grandchildren, Clay, Josh, Lauren and Christopher; four sisters, Betty Tidwell of Bethune, Barbara Pruett and Edwina Corley of Louisiana, Ann Walker of Mississippi; two brothers, Thomas Lewis of Louisiana, and Jimmy Dale Lewis of Mississippi.

Memorials may be made to Bethune Baptist Church, 304 Blackmon Street, Bethune, SC 29009, or the Kershaw County Relay for Life, 647 Lachicotte Rd, Lugoff, SC 29078.

SHIRLEY W. CASE
McBEE - Services for Shirley Watson Case, 66, were held 4 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial was in New Providence cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Ms. Case, who died Friday, March 17, was born in Hartsville a daughter of the late Charlie C. and Ruth Gainey Watson.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and was retired from Morrell Nursing Home.

Surviving are her daughter, Renee (Gene) Feagin of McBee; sisters, Kittie (Frank) Mooneyhan, Lugoff, Sherri (John) Klatt of Brussells; grandchild, Jessica Johnson; great-grandchild, Skyler Johnson of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by sons, Ray Von Anderson Jr, William Leon Anderson; brother, Wallace Lee Watson and deceased sister.

HAYWARD BOYKIN
Funeral services for Hayward Boykin will be held on today, March 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. The burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc.

Mr. Boykin died peacefully March 9. He was born March 23, 1959, in Harlem, N.Y., to the late Richard Boykin Sr. and Wilhelmenia Boykin. He attended Washington Street Elementary School and Butler High School of Hartsville.

During his high school years, he was elected president of the student council. He attended Morris College in Sumter. He then joined the United States Army as an artillery man gaining the rank of specialist. After his discharge from the military, he returned to Hartsville and resided with Pauline Mingo, a nurturing relative from his childhood. He eventually moved to Bensalem, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

He leaves to share his memory his mother Wilhelmenia Boykin; brother, Richard (Johanna) Boykin; three uncles, Allen McNeal of Florida, James McNeal of South Carolina and Harrison Napoleon of Connecticut; two aunts, Jessie Davis and Annie Donnelly of New York; special friend, Edward Boron; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Boykin will be extremely missed by his family and friends.

CHRISTINE MOSES
Funeral services for Christine Moses, 70, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Second Baptist Church, with burial following services in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

Mrs. Moses died Sunday, March 12. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Johnny Nick and Helen Wingate Brown. She received her education in the public school systems in the area and was a member of Faith Mission Unity Church.

Surviving are 10 children, Henry Lee Prince, Walter (Patricia) Prince, Mary Helen Ricks, Calvin L. Prince, Jeanine (Leroy) Edwards, Damain J. Prince and Joyce (Reginald) McCall, all of Hartsville, Sara Jean (Larry) Olimb of Seattle, Wash., Jacqueline (Leon) Hickmon of El Paso, Texas, Christina R. Blakney of Florence; four sisters, Carolyn Pompey, Yvonne Brown and Reatha Brown, all of Hartsville, Lucy Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, George Brown, Johnny Brown, Harry Brown, Sylvester Brown and Robert Brown, all of Hartsville; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Gwendolyn Johnson of Hartsville; a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other close relatives and friends.

LILLIAN INGS SCOTT
Funeral services for Lillian Ings Scott were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at St. John United Methodist Church in the Oates Community. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Frederick Yebuah officiating.

Mrs. Scott, affectionately known as 'Mella' to her family and friends, was born April 12, 1904, in Darlington County to the late Viola Samuels and Bert Ings. She departed from this earthly life on Friday, March 10, 2006, and entered into her heavenly home.

At an early age, she attended and joined St. John United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for many years as the treasurer of the Women's Society of Christian Service and as a communion steward. She received her education in the Darlington County public schools.

She was blessed with nearly 102 years of a life that has had a positive influence and impact on her family, friends, loved ones, and community. She was glorified for her hard work ethic and her marvelous domestic skills. Mrs. Scott always had words of guidance, wisdom, and encouragement.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Lennis Scott in 1923 and to this union 10 children were born. She also raised three of her grandchildren. Four of her daughters preceded her in death, Lois S. Clark, Mary Jane and a set of twins.

She leaves a legacy of love and devoted memories to her daughters, Mary L. Scott of the home, Rosa Lee Chavis, Evelyn Wilson and Minnie (Henry) Woodham, all of Lamar; her sons, John Scott of Hartsville and Gettis Scott of Jamaica, N.Y.; her sister, Cora Lee Stevenson of Darlington; her brother, Clarence (Annie Lee) Ings of Hartsville; 20 grandchildren with special recognition to the three grandchildren she raised in her home, Woodrow (Geraldine) Wilson Jr., of Athens, Ga., Estelle Scott of Lamar, and Lamarty (Michelle) Scott of Charlotte, N.C.; 37 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, six great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and very dear friends.

RUBY GANDY CARTER
Services for Ruby Gandy Carter, 81, widow of Thomas E. Carter Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Gary Colboch and Dr. Milton Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be this evening, March 17, from 7 to 9 at the funeral Home.

Mrs. Carter died Thursday, March 16. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late James D. Gandy Sr. and Coela Tyner Gandy. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school in the Children's Department for many years and later served in God's Special People Sunday school class.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas E. (Frances) Carter Jr., Michael (Jeanne) Carter, both of Hartsville, David (Stephanie) Carter of Florence; daughter, Jane (Marion) Miles of Florence; sisters, Katherine Melton and Sally Faile, both of Hartsville; brother, Lawrence Gandy of Hartsville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, J.C., Howard, Robert and Dowell Jr. Gandy; sisters, Louella Smith and Mary Margaret Gandy.

CHARLES FARMER
Memorial services for Charles Farmer will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel, directed by Hines Funeral Home. Mr. Farmer is the brother of Inez Kelley and James Farmer, both of Hartsville.

DOROTHY SOWELL
Dorothy G. Sowell, 85, died on Wednesday morning at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The family will be receiving friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jonah and Bessie Sowell, at 600 Wood Duck Lane in Darlington.

DIANA C. NALL
Funeral services for Diana Cobb Nall, 63, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Dr. Michael E. Ridgill will officiate with burial at 3 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, in LaFayette Memorial Park cemetery, Fayetteville, N.C., directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nall died Wednesday, March 15. Born in Sanford, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Stephen Thornton and Frances Ray Cobb. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.

Surviving are her husband, Richard A. (Dick) Nall of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Adele Nall of Fort Mill; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Robert Morris of Fort Mill; sister, Sarah Hassinger of Fort Mill; grandchildren, Stephen Nall Jr., Graydon Nall, Emily Morris and Evan Morris.

CHARLES THOMPSON SR.
SPRING CITY, Pa. - Funeral services for Charles Edward Thompson Sr., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Bethel Baptist Church in Phoenixville, Pa., directed by DeBaptiste Funeral Home of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Thompson departed this life on Saturday, March 11. He was born Oct. 24, 1938, to the late Phillip N. Thompson and Ethel Ashton Thompson Rhoden in Hague, Virginia.

He graduated from Richmond County High School, Warsaw, Va., in 1959. After graduation he moved to Phoenixville, Pa. He was employed at Norristown State Hospital in 1960, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1996. Through his employment he was affiliated with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District Council. He became the vice president of AFSCME Local 2940 in 1982.

In February 1996, the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Clinic of Norristown, Pa. was named the Clayton-Thompson Clinic in his honor.

Mr. Thompson was married to the former Sarah Frances Josey of Hartsville, for 44 - years. They are the parents of two adult children Charles Edward Thompson Jr. (Gretchen) of Spring City, Pa., and Lorraine Thompson Baron (Gerald) of Alpharetta, Ga. He was a member of the Lyells Chapel Baptist Church in Warsaw, Va. His adult membership was Bethel Baptist Church in Phoenixville, Pa. He was a member of the Trustee Board, where he served faithfully until his health failed him.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed deep-sea fishing, boating, bowling, sports, maintaining his lawn and keeping his cars clean. He adored his four grandchildren and one step- grandchild.

Leaving to mourn are his wife, Sarah Frances Josey Thompson; his children, Charles Edward Thompson Jr. and Lorraine Thomson Baron; three sisters, an uncle, two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and special family and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother.

KIMBERLY BREWER
SENECA - Funeral services for Kimberly Renae Brewer, 19, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Bethesda Fellowship Congregational Holiness Church in Cornelia, Ga., with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, Ga., directed by Davenport Funeral Home of Walhalla.

Ms. Brewer died Thursday, March 9, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., she was the daughter of the Rev. Ed Brewer of Seneca and the late Rhonda Elaine Simmons Brewer. She was a 2004 graduate of the S.C. Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and a student at Clemson University. Ms. Brewer was a member of Bountyland Church of God.

In addition to her father, Ms. Brewer is survived by a brother, Adam Matthew Brewer of Seneca; a fiance, Anton Sova of Beaufort; grandparents, Reece F. and Ruby Mae Armour Simmons of Baldwin, Ga., and Reggie and Norma Eller Brewer of Mt. Airy, Ga.

JANICE C. SANDERS
Funeral services for Janice Cranford Sanders, 36, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 15, 2006, at Gethsemane Apostolic Church located in Lynchburg. Burial will be in Green Hill Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanders died Sunday, March 12. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of L. C. and Hattie Davis Cranford. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and attended Gethsemane Apostolic Church.

Surviving other than her parents of Hartsville; are her husband, Terrance Sanders; two sons, Rodriquez T. Cranford and Zyrius T. Sanders, all of Hartsville; three sisters, Carolyn (Demetris) of Columbia, Lisa (Larry) Bess and Joni (Carlos) Pendergrass, both of Hartsville; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
