Ellen Pearl Johnson
Lockhart native

Ellen Pearl Johnson, 71, of 104 South Third St., Lockhart, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Ms. Johnson was born in Lockhart on Dec. 28, 1931, a daughter of the late Leroy and Ophelia Mathis Johnson. She was a member of Lockhart United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one son, Michael Eugene Johnson of the home; two sisters, Jennie Vanderford of Sharon and Peggy Ann Roberts of Jonesville; one brother, Leroy Johnson Jr. of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Shayna Michelle Parker, Teniel Johnson and Christopher Johnson, all of Union; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Parker and Seth Parker of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lockhart United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alan Quarles. Burial will be in Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Logan Vanderford, Stan Eaves, Larry Roberts, Mickey Parker, James Schrader and Harold Dean O'Dell.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 12 noon Tuesday to await the hour of service. Memorials may be made to Lockhart United Methodist Church, 105 North First St., Lockhart, S.C. 29634. The family is at the home, 104 South Third St., Lockhart. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mary L. Latimer
Union County native

Mary L. Means Latimer, wife of Derick Latimer, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the home of her sister, 862 Eisontown Road, Jonesville. Mrs. Latimer was born in Union County on June 5, 1951, a daughter of Jvant and the late Rose Lee Holley Means. She was employed at Laurly Baye Nursing Home. She was associated with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Surviving are a daughter, Keisha Smith; six sisters, Margie (Vashtrie) Walton and Virginia Jeter of Jonesville, Bneuena Fugua of Maryland, Patricia Davis of Louisiana, Juanita Young and Annie Mae Minto of New York; three brothers, Jvant Means Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Larry (Brenda) Means of Jonesville, Gary (Anita) Means of Delaware; three grandsons, Dimain Smith, Quintavious and Quentavious Green; three aunts, Bessie (James) Delaney of Union, Perry Lindsey of Chicago, Ill., and Dorothy (Townsend) Goode of Jonesville; and two uncles, Henry (Fannie) Means of Union and Luther Holley of Delaware.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Gibson & Brown Chapel. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery. The family is at her residence, 644 Eisontown Road, Jonesville. Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

James M. Morris
World War II veteran

James Monroe Morris, 80, husband of Rudelle Ivey Morris of 681 Brown's Creek Road, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Mr. Morris was born in Union, July 12, 1922, a son of the late Lillie Harris. He was retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. Mr. Morris was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church where he had served as deacon for many years and was a former choir member.

Mr. Morris was a member of the Harold Eubanks Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers of the church and also a member of Woodmen of the World and the Union County Senior Citizens. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Freddie Barfield of Union; three brothers, C.C. Vaughan, Bill Morris and Pete Ivey, all of Union; a sister, Thelma Ivey of Union; three grandchildren, Chad and Anna Barfield of Union; April and Bobby Hall of Union and Holli Barfield of Union; and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Barfield, BriAnna Barfield, Jayda Barfield and Justin Hall.

Mr. Morris was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne Morris Whisnant and a great-granddaughter, Maycee Angel Barfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Morningside Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Saxon and the Rev. Joe Blalock. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Donald Hope Howell, Ralph Adams, Byrd Ivey, Petey Ivey, Ben Ivey III, Bruce Vaughan, Thomas Bobo and Tommy Haney.

The following formed the honorary escort: Jack Vinson, Jake Vinson, Bill Clowney, Colin Duckett, Robert Sparks, Carl Lewis, J.D. Gaines, Gene Adams, James Burnett, Harold Eubanks, John Wilson, Reece O'Dell, Barry O'Dell, Jerry Vassey, Larry Page, Raymond Morris and Jimmy Belk. The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday night. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family is at the home, 681 Brown's Creek Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Robert G. Bolick
World War II veteran

Robert Gist (Bob) Bolick, 78, of 103 Partridge Road, husband of Sarah Louise Clemmer Bolick, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at 11:40 p. m. in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Mr. Bolick was born in Union on Oct. 19, 1924, a son of the late Henry P. Bolick Sr. and Inez Gist Bolick.

He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, president of the Men's Club, served on the Committee of Stewardship and Finance and was a member of the A.G. Carter Sunday School Class. Mr. Bolick was a graduate of Union High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College and was retired from Milliken & Co. after 40 years of service having worked at Excelsior Plant, Milliken Research Center, Midway Plant.

He served as a cost accountant for Milliken & Co. Mr. Bolick was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and was part of the D-Day plus 5 invasion at Omaha Beach. Mr. Bolick was the great-grandson of Seccession Governor William H. Gist.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Henry P. (Pete) Bolick III of the home and Robert Edward Bolick and Janice Shealy of Prosperity; a sister, Judith Ann Sparks of Centerville, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Karen Elisabeth Bolick and Katie Michelle Bolick, both of the home. Mr. Bolick was predeceased by a brother, Henry P. Bolick Jr., who gave his life during World War II as a bomber pilot.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat, the Rev. Larry Hyder and the Rev. Richard Lewis. Active pallbearers will be John Williams, Barry Rhinehart, Robert W. Gist, Bruce Lancaster, Randolph Lancaster and Billy Dean Lancaster. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Members of the A.G. Carter Sunday School Class are asked to assemble at the church Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 103 Partridge Road. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 1622 Kelly Road, Union, S.C. 29379 The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Franklin E. Glenn
Retired from Northfolk Southern

SPARTANBURG Franklin Eugene Glenn, 53, of 217 Gowan Circle, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Glenn was retired from Northfolk Southern Railway and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also well known as an automotive mechanic. He was the husband of Jennie V. Glenn; a son of the late Wilson and Marian Glenn and the father of Geneen Brewton and Jaermaine Glenn and grandfather of Tyrique Glenn.

Also surviving are four brothers, George and Freddie Glenn of Union, Dave Glenn of Charlotte and Edwain Glenn of Greenville; three sisters, Clista Edwards of Carlisle, Alfreada Foster of Goose Creek and Donna Glenn of Union. Gene was reared in the home of Willis Glenn along with his five cousins, Kathy Clowney, Brenda Gilliam, Gerald Glenn, Larry Glenn and Shirley Littlejohn.

Funeral serivces will conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt Rowell Baptist Church in Union by the Rev. James Ponder. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the J.W. Woodward Funeral Home. The J.W. Woodward Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Deborah T. Jeter
Retired sock inspector

CARLISLE Funeral services for Deborah Tucker Jeter, 79, widow of Fred Jeter, 215 Beasley St., will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses by Brother James Rodgers and Brother Arthur Stevens. Burial will be in St. Paul Society Cemetery.

Mrs. Jeter died at her home Friday, June 6, 2003. Public viewing will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Fremont Van Dunn Sr.
World War II veteran

Fremont Van Dunn Sr., 79, of 310 Ravencroft St., husband of Marie Kershaw Dunn, died at Magnolia Manor Friday, June 4, 2004. Mr. Dunn was born on June 23, 1924, a son of the late Viola Dunn and Will Dunn. He was a member of Clinton Chapter AME Zion Church where he served faithfully on the Usher Board, the choir and other auxiliaries for many years.

He was Worshipful Master of Bethlehem Chapter #22 and served as secretary. He was formerly employed at Carlisle Finishing Co. as a packer in the packing department. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving in addition to his wife are seven sons, Earl V. Dunn, Kenneth Dunn, Keith Dunn, Tyrone (Patty) Dunn, all of Union, Joseph Dunn Sr. of Germany and Michael (Joyce) Dunn of Atlanta; eight daughters, Andrea Dunn, La Shawn (Johnny) Dunn-Glenn, both of Union; Miriam Dunn-Oakman of Taylors, Gloria Dunn-Christie of New Jersey, Peggy (Lyman) Dunn-May, Alice Dunn and Joyce (Dennis- Dunn-Skidmore, both of New York; a sister, Justine Farr, of Winston Salem, N.C., and Saundra Dunn Dawkins of Spartanburg; 60 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church conducted by the Rev. Robinson. Burial was in St. Paul's Society Cemetery. The family is at 310 Ravencroft St., Union. The Union Community Funeral Home.

Roberta W. Little
Retired from Ace Sweater Mill

JONESVILLE Roberta Evalena Watson Little, 80, of 2648 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville, passed on to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Little was the devoted wife of the late Ned Keith Little Sr. She was born in Fairfield County on Aug. 14, 1923, a daughter of the late W.D. Watson Sr. and Katie Tidwell Watson.

Mrs. Little was a long time faithful member of Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the church choir, her Sunday School class secretary and served faithfully on numerous church committees. She was retired from Ace Sweater Mill.

Surviving are a son, Ned Keith Little Jr. of Austin, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Jane and Bruce Inman of Jonesville and Helen and Ricky Spencer of Pacolet; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, John Watson of Winnsboro.

She was predeceased by a son, John C. Little; a daughter, Cora (Pinky) Little Sinclair; a grandson, Matt Inman; two brothers, W.D. Watson Jr. and Bill Watson; and a sister, Katherine Watson Cooper. Funeral services will be held Thursday 3 p.m. at Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Keith Sweat and the Rev. Larry Hyder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Members of the Carlisle Hart Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service.

The family is at the home of her daughter, Jane Inman, 2612 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville. Memorials may be made to the Foster's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 392 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, S.C. 29353. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
