RUTH A. WEATHERLY
Funeral Home Co-Founder & Co-Owner

SUMTER - Funeral services for Ruth Amelia Weatherly, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 9, 2006, in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Hudson and Mr. Bob Partin officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

Miss Weatherly died Monday, June 5, at the St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Mitchell Weatherly and the late Janie Walters Weatherly. She was a charter member of Bible Fellowship Church, where she was a member of the Howell Bible Class, was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for generations of children and served as a member of the Finance Committee.

Miss Weatherly joined the staff of the former Shelley-Brunson Funeral Home in 1961 where she was employed for 20 years. In 1980, she became a co-founder and corporate secretary/treasurer of Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, which became Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home in 1992, where she was currently serving as corporate secretary/treasurer and partner. She dedicated her life to funeral service in Sumter and surrounding counties for over 44 years.

Although Ruth never became a mother, she had many children in the Lord whom she loved and adored.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Weatherly and Gordon Weatherly, and one sister, Leona Weatherly.

Surviving is one brother, Jake Mitchell Weatherly and his wife Valerie Weatherly of Greenville; three nieces, Leigh W. Batson and husband Dr. W. Arnold Batson, Michelle W. Herran and husband Vincent Herran, Pamela W. Clark and husband William Clark all of Greenville; three nephews, Robert Weatherly and wife Doris Weatherly of Pennsylvania, Odell Weatherly and wife Linda Weatherly of Sumter, Alvin Weatherly and wife Juanita Weatherly of Sumter; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Partin family of Sumter.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Whittle, Michael Newman, Michael Partin, Warren Carraway, Norman Partin, and Barry Blackmon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Howell Bible Class of Bible Fellowship Church.

Memorials may be made to Bible Fellowship Church Missions Fund, 227 Broad Street, Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street, Sumter, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY ELLA W. SUGGS
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Mary Ella Whittle Suggs, 88, will be 3 p.m. today, June 9, 2006, at Indian Branch United Methodist Church with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens, officiated by Rev. Dale McCluney and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Suggs died Tuesday, June 6. She was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Ravenel and Cecil Iona Scurry Whittle, and married to the late Charlie H. Suggs. She worked for Dixie Cup until her retirement and enjoyed working in her yard and cooking. She was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Sylvia (Cecil) Chandler, Mollie Johnson, all of Darlington; three sons, Ronnie (Janice) Suggs of Hartsville, Steve Suggs, Charles Boykin, both of Darlington; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Suggs was preceded in death by a daughter, LaRue Odom, a son, Frank Suggs, and a grandson, Phillip Boykin.

Memorials may be made to Indian Branch UMC, 2100 Indian Branch Rd, Darlington, SC 29532.

DEBBIE BENJAMIN
Funeral services for Debbie Thomas Benjamin, 46, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Kingsville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Benjamin died Monday, June 5, at Lexington Medical Center after an illness. She was a loving daughter of the late Clyde and Thelma Lee Segars Thomas Sr. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was employed with Goody's Department Store for several years and was a member of the Kingsville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Timyandrea Benjamin and Tasia Benjamin; one son, Demaize Benjamin, all of Hartsville; four grandchildren, Minya Benjamin, Darrionna Benjamin, Aletrice Benjamin and Ta'Kylia Benjamin, all of Hartsville; five siblings, Clyde (Vanessa) Thomas Jr. and Patricia (Tommie) Leatch, both of Hartsville, Corinthians Young, William (Yizet) Knight and Taris Brown, all of Augusta, Ga.; a special niece, Toylesha 'Shangie' McMillan of Hartsville; a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.

VERA M. LAW
FLORENCE - Vera Morgan Law, 91, wife of the late Charlton E. Law Jr., died Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home in Florence at 2 p.m. today, June 7, directed by Belk Funeral Home of Darlington. The family will receive friends in the parlor of the Presbyterian Home following the service.

Mrs. Law was born in Harnett County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late James M. Morgan and Flonnie Gardner Morgan. She was an active Sunday school teacher in the Dillon Presbyterian Church for more than 20 years. She was also heavily involved in the Saint Eugene Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Dillon County Cancer Society, the Historical Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Dillon Garden Club.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charlton E. Law III and Linda of Columbia and John A. Law of Darlington; two granddaughters, Margaret L. Weaver and Sarah L. Williams and their husbands Troy and Trevor; and great-grandchildren, Lydia Gardner Weaver, Margaret Ella Weaver, Simmons Madison Weaver, Graham Edward Williams and Jane Lynn Williams.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home of SC or Darlington Presbyterian Church.

MARY E. BRUMBAUGH
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Ritter Brumbaugh, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 7, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins will officiate with burial in Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Coker College, 300 E. College Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550 or First Presbyterian Church, 213 W. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Brumbaugh, widow of Nickey Brumbaugh, died Thursday, June 1. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was retired from Coker College as an assistant librarian, a graduate of DePauw University and a member of the League of Women Voters, Thursday Study Club, book club, garden club and poetry club.

Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, John and Sarah Brumbaugh of Charlottesville, Va., Lee Brumbaugh of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Katherine Mauller, Hope Proffitt, Eddie Brumbaugh and Susan Brumbaugh; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alan Ritter.

CLAUD L. OLIVER
Funeral services for Claud Lester Oliver, 79, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Medlin, the Rev. Dr. Ben Gafford and the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford officiated with burial at 1 p.m. in Ruby cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506 or St. Luke United Methodist Church, 302 Dunlap Dr., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Oliver died Friday, June 2. Born in Ruby, he was a son of the late Claud Lester Sr. and Mary Ann Hicks Oliver. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, XYZ Club, Adult Fellowship Class and the Prayer Breakfast group. He retired from Sonoco Products Co. in 1986 and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was devoted to his church and family.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille Coward Oliver of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, L. Ray D.M.D. and Nancy Oliver of Elloree, Jerry and Marsha Oliver of Sumter, Sandy E. Oliver of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Olivia O. and Mark Eitzman of Florence; sisters, Betty Agnew of Ruby, Iris Hill of El Cajon, Calif.; brothers, Jack Oliver of Chesterfield, Mike Oliver of Ruby, Bill Oliver of Ruby; grandchildren, Nance Lowry, Les Oliver, Sarah Oliver, Arin Oliver, Holly Alford, Brittain Alford; two great grandchildren.

ROBERT McCAULEY
DARLINGTON - A graveside service for Robert 'Bob' McCauley, 92, will be held in Grove Hill cemetery at 11 a.m. today, June, 7, 2006, officiated by Rev. Mickey Bell and directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. McCauley died Sunday, June 4, in a local nursing home. He was born in Alexandria, Va., son of the late George and Mary Hughes McCauley. He was formerly employed by the Railway Mail Service, an agency of the U.S. Postal Service, for a period of over 35 years, and after retiring in 1970, served 14 years part-time with the Darlington County Library. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Florence Chapter No. 960. Mr. McCauley was a long-time member of the Darlington Presbyterian Church until becoming a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as a choir member.

Surviving are a daughter, June (James) Ross of Georgetown; two granddaughters, Catherine Stewart of Charleston and Louise Rudisill Murray of Charleston; and a great-grandson Logan Abel Murray.

Mr. McCauley was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Spann McCauley, and his second wife, Ethel S. Allen McCauley.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

BONNIE WATKINS
LEXINGTON - Graveside services for Bonnie Carolyn Turner Watkins of Lexington were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2006, in Magnolia cemetery, Hartsville, directed by Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Active pallbearers were Scott Neff, Allen Pruitt, Johnny Tolson, Todd Tolson, Sam Ingram and Glen Ingram.

Mrs. Watkins died on Thursday, June 1. Born on May 16, 1932, in Hartsville, and was the daughter of the late Clyde Deverett and Charity Maybelle Turner.

She is survived by daughter, Renee' Carbaugh of Simpsonville; sons, Delmas Watkins of Lexington, Jimmy Watkins of Darlington, Bobby Watkins of Hopkins, Randy Watkins of Lexington; sister Mrs. J. W. (Deloris) Tolson of Hartsville; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mr. Henry Graham Watkins, and brothers, Mr. Wilburn Turner, Mr. Delmas Turner, and sisters, Mrs. Rembert (Martha) Ingram and Mrs. Shady (Mary) Grantham.

ELIZABETH ODOM
Funeral services for Elizabeth Griggs Odom, 75, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Fourth Street Baptist Church. Burial followed in Westview Memorial cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Odom, who died June 1, was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late Murray J. and Lillie Mae Douglas Griggs.

She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Ariel M. Odom Sr. of Hartsville; daughters, Linda Gibson of Johnson City, Tenn., Lorrie Gomes, Seattle Washington, Lesley Matthews, Myrtle Beach; son, Ariel M. Odom Jr. of Hartsville; siblings, Betty Edwards, Judy Huggins, Bobby Griggs of Hartsville, Steve Griggs of Lugoff; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

HATTIE JOHNSON
Funeral services for Hattie Edwards Johnson, 89, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006, in the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Grover Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, widow of William Burtis (Burt) Johnson, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 3. She was born in Chesterfield, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Mary Ann Ingram Edwards. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. Her favorite hobby was raising pretty flowers.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Gretta and Billy Johnson of Hartsville; daughter-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Hartsville; grandchildren, Cheryl (Ron) Winburn, Grant (Bonnie) Johnson, the Rev. Grover (Angelia) Johnson, Amy (William) King, Lynda (Ronnie) Johnson, Luanne (Don Jr. ) Watkins, Donna (Ran) Whitley, Debra (Steve) Abbott; 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Johnson, and a granddaughter, Karen Johnson.

JUNE MARTIN
June Anderson Martin, 80, of Hartsville, and formerly of Rumson, N.J., died May 25, 2006. She was the daughter of the late John Gudmund and Mildred Fiordland Anderson. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband, George D. Martin Sr. She grew up in Rumson, N.J., and graduated from Rumson High School. She was married to George Martin for 24 years; they lived in Frankfurt, Germany, Baltimore Md., and Fair Haven, N.J., while raising their family. Upon her husband's death in 1968, Mrs. Martin returned to college at Towson State in Maryland. She completed a post-graduate degree at the Public Health Hospital in Baltimore and served as the director of medical records at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, Md., until her retirement. She then relocated to the Carolinas to be near her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel and had been all over the world, at last count 79 countries.

She is survived by her daughter, Lee A. Martin of Hartsville; her sons Dr. George D. Martin Jr. (Joanie) of Wilmington, N.C.; and John A. Martin of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Joshua G. Martin, Brian W. Farmer, Daniel J. Farmer; granddaughter Alyssa A. Martin; and sister Joyce A. Haebler.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice PO Box 100551 Florence, SC 29501-0551.

DREXEL C. CHAPMAN
Funeral services for Drexel Clay Chapman, 86, will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 2, 2006, in Magnolia cemetery. The Rev. Carol Hassell will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 145 E. College Avenue, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Chapman, widow of Jimmy Theron 'Bill' Chapman, died Wednesday, May 31. Born in McBee, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Cornelia Baker Clay. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She and her husband owned and operated several businesses, including Bill's Luncheonette and HC&D; Truck Lines. She was a loving wife who was the epitome of, 'In sickness and in health, ' ministering to her husband through a lengthy involved illness.

Surviving are her daughter, Tammy Chapman of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Willie C. Kelley of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Emma C. Downey, Ruby C. Melton and Rheda C. Stokes.
