David Allen White died on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after and illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The family will receive friends at the residence, 2797 Wood Duck Road.

RONALD TURNER SR.
Funeral services for Ronald C. (Ronnie) Turner Sr., 58, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Gary Colboch and Dr. Milton G. Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Memorial cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight, Nov. 10, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mr. Turner, who died Nov. 9, was born in Hartsville, a son of George D. Turner Jr. and the late Iva Sellers Turner. He was assistant manager at Piggly Wiggly, member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Living Hope Sunday School Class and a Vietnam veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Huggins Turner of Hartsville; his father of Hartsville; son, Ronald C. 'Ron' Turner Jr. of Charleston; brother, Mitchell (Judy) Turner of Hartsville; sister, Denise (Robin) Hagy of Anderson.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 949 N. Marquis Hwy., Hartsville, SC 29550.

C. FRANK HAYS JR.
Graveside services for Columbus Franklin Hays Jr., 100, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 8, 2006, at Magnolia cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Mr. Hays, widower of Virginia Langston Hays, died Friday, Nov. 3. Born in Leesburg, Fla., he was a son of the late Columbus Franklin and Helena Elizabeth Moore Hays. He was a devout Christian and one of Hartsville's earliest joggers. He also enjoyed gardening. He retired as manager of the Hartsville office of Western Union Telegraph Company with 41 years of service. He also wrote the popular article '25 Years Ago' in the Hartsville Messenger for 40 years.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, C. Franklin and Elaine J. Hays III of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and William M. Hagood III of Easley, Faye and Dr. Thomas E. Hearon III of Columbia; grandchildren, Columbus Franklin Hays IV, Craig Porter Hays, Virginia Hagood MacDonald, Dr. Elizabeth Hearon Lindsey, Mary Kent Hearon, Thomas Edward Hearon IV; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Coco MacDonald, William Cougar MacDonald, Thomas Hays Lindsey, Wilson Buchanan Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alvin Guy Hays and Henry Hays; sisters, Cecil Rabb, Evola Yonge, Mercia Boehning, Enza Nichols; grandson, William M. Hagood IV.

MIRIAM LEWIS
Funeral services for Miriam Moody Lewis, 76, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ladell Humphries and Father Jack Larkin officiated, with burial in Magnolia cemetery. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice, 555 E. Cheves, Florence SC 29506.

Mrs. Lewis died Friday, Nov. 3. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Harold W. and Cora Byrd Moody. She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church. She retired from Dixie Cup after many years of service.

The family would like to thank McLeod Hospice for all of the support given to their mother and family.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Harold Michael and Lisa Lewis of Leesville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Beasley Hartsell and David Hartsell of Hartsville; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey M. and Jack Wender of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, H. W. and Irene Moody of Myrtle Beach, Royce and Sonja Moody of Hartsville, Rogers and Marci Moody of Florence; grandchildren, T. J. Beasley, Justin Beasley, Tyler Beasley, Greyson Lewis; great-granddaughter, Triston Beasley; favorite cat, Winder. She was preceded in death by her infant son, George Boardman Lewis Jr.

SAMUEL BOYKIN
BETHUNE - Funeral services for Samuel McKinnon 'Kinney' Boykin, 60, who died Nov. 5, 2006, will be held today, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. at Bethune Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jimmy Holley, James Hopkins and Neal Gainey will officiate. Burial will be in the Turkey Creek cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Kinney was born in Bethune, a son of Sarah Ruth McKinnon Boykin and the late Dewey Samuel Boykin. He was employed with Almond Forest, served in the National Guard, was a member of the Pleasant Hill Hunting Club, Bethune Presbyterian Church, and was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and to a host of friends. Surviving are his wife, Dianne Tiller Boykin; mother; son, Jason Samuel Boykin, all of Bethune; daughter and son-in-law Angelia Boykin and Kevin Todd Rickard of Sumter; brother, Dewey Neil Boykin of Bethune; granddaughter, Baileigh Madison Rickard; grandson, Harrison Todd Rickard of Sumter; special companion, his dog Nubbie.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

JAMES HARRIOT
COLUMBIA - Homegoing services for James Harriot Jr. of Columbia will be held 2 p.m. today, Nov. 8, 2006, at Right Direction Christian Center with burial to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens, directed by Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Harriot died Saturday, Nov. 4. Born in Hartsville, he was the son of the late James and Marvell (Bradley) Harriot. A veteran of the U. S. Army, James was a self-employed insurance agent and a dedicated member of Right Direction Christian Center.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rosalind Jamison Harriot; son, Jeremy Harriot; daughter, Stacey (Darren) J. Dixon; brother, Robert Harriot; sisters, Lovenia Colvin, Earline (Elder Otis) McNeill, Janie Harriot, Marvell H. Clyburn, Dorothy Harriot, Phyllis Harriot and Melissa Joyce Byrd.

TOMMIE LEE LEATCH
Funeral services for Tommie Lee Leatch, 75, were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Kingsville United Methodist Church. Burial followed services in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Leatch died Monday, Oct. 30. He was born in Lee County, a son of the late Willie and Lila Newsome Leatch. He received his education in the Lee County public schools.

At an early age, he joined Mt. Tema Baptist Church and later joined Kingsville United Methodist Church. He was a dedicated employee of Piggly Wiggly grocery store for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia 'Pat' Leatch of Hartsville; four daughters, Kitty Patterson and Colinette Leatch, both of Fayetteville, N.C., Lila (Lewis) Grooms of Darlington and Tomresha Leatch of Hartsville; two sons, Tommie Leatch Jr. of Hartsville and Sam (Claudette) Toney of Florence; one sister, Louise (Charles) Sutton of Hartsville; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Newman of Indiana; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

CLINTON LYLES JR.
Funeral services for Charles Clinton 'Blue Gum' Lyles, 61, were held at'3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at St Luke United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Medlin officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church Building Fund, 302 Dunlap Dr., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mr. Lyles died Saturday, Nov. 4. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Charles Clinton and Leslie Rosene Winburn Lyles. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Hartsville Masonic Lodge No. 173, American Legion, and Cedar Creek Cigar & Gun Club. He was retired from the S.C. Army National Guard as sergeant major, was previously employed at Sonoco and was well known for Clinton's Backyard Catering. He was a retired Hartsville volunteer fireman and served several years as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 523.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes Avery Lyles of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Tripp and Barbie Lyles; son and daughter-in-law to be, Avery Lyles and Megan Winburn, all of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Mellette and Wendell Ingram of Hartsville; father and mother of Hartsville; brother, Mendel Lyles of Hartsville; granddaughters, Allison Gaskins, Allana Ingram and Harleigh Lyles.

BILLY LONG
Graveside services for Billy Joe Long, 60, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Riverside cemetery, Nichols. The Revs. Dr. Mark Bredholt and Tony Medlin officiated, with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of Tri-County, 166 Stoneridge Dr., Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210.

Mr. Long died Thursday, Nov. 26. Born in Horry County, he was a son of the late Dock and Maude Carroll Long. He was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church. He was previously employed with Progress Energy. He was a kind, gentle person and a loving, caring husband and father.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Elliott Long of Hartsville; daughter, Jeri Long of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Chat Long of Florence; grandson, Patrick Long; sisters, Gracie Floyd and Macie Clark, both of Gallivants Ferry, Lillie Mae Turner of Laurinburg, N.C.. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lacy 'Bud' Long; sisters, Pauline Strickland, Earline Clark and Faye Skipper.

MARY YARBOROUGH
Graveside services for Mary Norwood Yarborough, 86, were held at 1 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Darlington Memory Gardens. The Revs. Richard Hopper and John Griggs officiated, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hands Hospice, 202 S. Second St., Hartsville, SC 29550, or Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079.

Mrs. Yarborough, widow of Ray Yarborough, died Thursday, Nov. 2. Born in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Ella Byrd Norwood and step daughter of the late Edelle N. Norwood. She was a life-long member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and especially enjoyed the Ladies Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her son, Earl Norwood Yarborough Sr. of Hartsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Marion Bonniott of Darlington, Lou Ellen and John Lewis of Jackson, Betty and Bobby Lee and Claudia and George Braddock, all of Hartsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Murry and Ruby Norwood and R. A. Norwood, all of Hartsville, Marvin and Judy Norwood of Darlington, Clarence and Louise Norwood of Florence; grandchildren and spouse, Earl Norwood and Lori Yarborough Jr., Mark and Phyllis Yarborough, Brian Yarborough, all of Hartsville, Treacey Yarborough of Asheville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Megan Nicole Yarborough, Catherine Grace Yarborough, Sarah Margaret Yarborough, all of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Norwood Abbott, and three brothers, J. L. Norwood, James Norwood, and Lawrence Norwood.

NEY WALLACE
Funeral services for Robert Ney Wallace Sr. 80, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Horace Jackson officiated with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Wallace went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 2. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Dora Wallace. He was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church and the T.J. Lewis Sunday School Class. He worked for Sonoco Products Company for 39 1/2 years and was a member of Sonoco Old Timers Club. He served in the army in World War II and was in the occupation force in Japan after the war. He enjoyed gardening and giving the produce to others.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Blackman Wallace of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jane Wallace; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Scott Weaver, all of Hartsville; sister, Helen Flowers of Hartsville; brothers, Clyde Wallace and Ernest Wallace of Hartsville; grandchildren, Cody Poston, Christopher Wallace, Ashley Wallace, all of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Wallace, Henry Wallace, Earl Wallace, Grady Wallace, Oscar Wallace and Barnie Wallace.

WILHELMINA BARFIELD
Funeral services for Dicy Wilhelmina Grantham Barfield, 84, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Revs. Rod Elliott and Lin Kirkman will officiate with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barfield died Tuesday, Nov 7. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late William Luther and Bessie Gilbert Grantham. She was the wife of her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Howard Barfield Sr. She was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She was a two-time cancer survivor and was courageous during her battle with heart disease.

Surviving are her husband of Hartsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Howard Barfield Jr. of Hartsville, and Terry and Angie Barfield of Findlay, Ohio; daughter, Judy Barfield of Hartsville; grandchildren (spouse) , Meredith (Scott) Sullivan, Mallory Barfield, Kaitlyn Barfield, Ryan Barfield, Scott Barfield; great-grandchild, Jordan Barfield; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

JOE SOWELL
BETHUNE - Funeral services for Joseph Purdy 'Joe' Sowell, 56, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Bethel United Methodist Church. The Revs. Barbara Segars and Larry Brown officiated, with burial in Bethel cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the MDA - SC Chapter, 2700 Middleburg Dr. #240, Columbia, SC 29204 or Bethune United Methodist Church, Box 275, Bethune, SC 29009.

Mr. Sowell, one of Jerry Lewis' Kids, died Monday, Oct. 30, in the arms of his family. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of Eugenia Parker Sowell and the late Joseph Purdy Sowell.

Even though Joe spent his entire life in a wheelchair with limited physical mobility, he was a very active member of his community. With his unwavering spirit and enthusiasm, he was an expert mechanic - from motorcycles to racing engines and carburetors to electronics, CD radios and computers. He lent his expertise to many. In his community, he served as the DJ to school dances and supplied and ran the sound system for many dance recitals and Chicken Strut programs. He was an advocate for the handicapped and lobbied endlessly for handicap accessibility.

Surviving are his mother of Bethune; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Robert McCaskill of Bethune; nieces, Gena (Wayne) Tidwell and Denise (Shane) Fountain; nephew, R. Manning McCaskill; one great niece and five great nephews.

LIZZIE W. BISHOP
Funeral services for Lizzie Wheeler Bishop, 70, will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bishop died Saturday, Oct. 28, in Paterson, N.J., after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late William 'Bill' Swinney and Ora Lee Wheeler. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church before migrating to New Jersey. She later joined New Grace of God Church of Paterson, N.J. Mrs. Bishop was e

mployed with Bergen Pines Hospital until retirement and also served as president of the Rosa Parks Tenants Council. Surviving are two daughters, Christal Joyce Bishop and Nola Lawrence, both of Paterson, N.J.; five sons, Levern Wheeler of Hartsville, Horace 'Ricky' Bishop, Michael Bishop, John Patrick Bishop and Marco Davon Bishop, all of Paterson, N.J.; one sister, Janice Smith of New Haven, Conn.; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Bishop and Krystal Bishop; one son-in-law, Woodrow 'Woody' Lawrence; two sisters-in-law, Lugenia Bishop of Hartsville and Myrtle Bishop of Philadelphia, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; five aunts; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

RONALD GAINEY SR.
Funeral services for Ronald Burgess Gainey, Sr. 66, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ed Griggs will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Gainey died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late John Henry and Ada Odom Gainey. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald Burgess 'Speedy' and Patricia Gainey Jr., and John Curtis Gainey, both of Salisbury, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja G. and Gary Cline of Concord, N.C.; sister, Vee Opal Tyner of Port Royal; grandchildren, Maleah Gainey, Christopher Mull, Jacqueline Troup, Ashley Troup, Erica Gainey, Ashleigh Cline, Amber Cline; great-grandchild, Kinsley Starns. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Gainey, Julian Gainey, and John Gainey.

RANDY GALLOWAY
DARLINGTON - A Memorial service for George Randy Galloway, 56, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 3, 2006, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Todd Parrish.

Mr. Galloway died Tuesday, Oct. 31, at his residence. He was born in Darlington County, son of the late George Carl and Mary Parnell Galloway. Randy served his country in the U.S. Army and then worked as a floral designer and hair stylist. Mr. Galloway was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two brothers, Don (Debbie) Allen Galloway, Jerry (Shirley) Lee Galloway, all of Timmonsville; a sister, Diane (Philip) Duenow of Darlington, and seven nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made in memory of Randy, c/o Belk Funeral Home, PO Box 523, Darlington, SC 29540.
