DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Ferry Junior Parker, 72, will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 20, 2004, in the Kistler Chapel of Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Family cemetery.
Mr. Parker died Saturday, Oct. 16, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Isaac and Jenny Feagin Parker. He worked at Perfection American for a number of years and retired from PDRTA and was Pastor of United Christian Assembly. Mr. Parker was affectionately known as Preacher Parker. He was predeceased by a son, Tony R. Parker and a granddaughter, Marsha D. Gaines.
Survivors include his wife, Luna Mae Denton Parker of Darlington; two sons, Mark (Susan) Parker and Danny Parker, both of Darlington; one daughter, Cyndy (Michael) Gaines of Darlington; two brothers, Johnny (Cecil) Parker of Florence and Allard (Doris) Parker of Laurens; one sister, Francis (Frank) McDonald of Sumter; eight grandchildren and eight great–grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Darlington Church of God, 702 N. Governor Williams Highway, Darlington, SC 29540.
CLASSIE HICKMON
BISHOPVILLE — Classie Hickmon died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 517 James St., Bishopville.
CELESTE JEFFORDS
LAMAR — Celeste Lessie Beasley Jeffords, age 87, died Friday morning, Oct. 15, 2004, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct., 17, in Lamar United Methodist Church with interment following in Lamar cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home of Lamar.
Mrs. Jeffords was born in Darlington County, daughter of the late Louis Josey and Belvedere Mims Beasley. She was the widow of the late Alton Boykin Jeffords. Mrs. Jeffords was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, was a member of the church choir, and the Canasta Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great–grandmother.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter–in–law; Alton Al Beasley Jeffords and Warren Josey and Gay Jeffords, all of Lamar; grandchildren, Ginger Celeste (Kelly) Windham of Lamar, Allyson Suzanne Jeffords of Bishopville, Candice Arren Jeffords of Anderson, Sarah Elizabeth (Ken) Dowling of Florence, and Josey Stelling Jeffords of Columbia; two great–grandsons, Zachary Jeffords Windham and Kennedy Gettice Windham and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jeffords was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel B. Dolak, and Sarah B. Saverance, and three brothers, Dan E. Beasley, J. Wesley Beasley, and Gerald Beasley.

LEXIE HARRIS
LAMAR — Lexie Mae Cox Harris, 90 died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in a local hospital. - Graveside funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in Mt. Hope cemetery in Florence, officiated by Rev. Carl Morris and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris was born in Yadkin County, N.C., daughter of the late Selmon Lee and Bessie Mae Adams Cox. Mrs. Harris was a housewife and was married
to the late Clyde Mitchell Richbourg and then to the late James L. Harris. She was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Richbourg (James) Buchanan of Ninety–six, three grandchildren, six great–grandchildren, and a brother, S.L. Cox of Florence.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Harris Langston.

HARVEY HAUSMANN
Memorial services for Harvey James Hausmann, 68, will be held at 6:00 p.m. today, Oct. 20, 2004, at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Surrett will officiate directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Hartsville Soup Kitchen, 145 E. College Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Hausmann died Sunday, Oct. 17. Born in Bangor, Pa., he was a son of the late Harvey John and Jennie Kline Hausmann. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as an altar guild, a member of the Kenneth Keuhner Sunday School Class, and with the Cub Scouts. He was a volunteer at the Hartsville Soup Kitchen and a volunteer fireman at the Upper Black Edy Fire Department in Pennsylvania. -
Surviving are his wife, Janet Hausmann of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Billy M. and Eileen Hausmann of Nesquehoning, Pa.; daughters and sons–in–law, Debbie and John Kronz, of Hartsville, Kathy H. and Ralph Batchelder, of Malone N.Y., Michelle H. and Ricky Jacobs of Middleburg, Fla.; sisters and brother–in–law, Janet Tymstra of Great Meadows, N.J., Sue and Art Bergsma of Hamlin, Pa.; brothers and sisters–in–law, Donald and Pearl Hausmann of Beachlake, Pa., Rodney and Alice Hausmann of Hackettstown, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; eight great–grandchildren; several nephews; several nieces.
MARVIN PETERS
Funeral services for Marvin Frank Lightning Peters, 28, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Middendorf Church of the Living God with the Revs. Gary Wells and Nathan Barrington officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Peters died Thursday, Oct. 14. Born in Chesterfield, County, he was a son of Allen Frank Peters and Linda Walters Outlaw. He was a member of the Middendorf Church of the Living God.
Surviving are his wife, Jenny Melton Peters of Hartsville; sons, Cody Cranford and Landon Lee Gauge Peters, both of Hartsville; daughters, Hannah Bryant and Amber Melton, both of Hartsville; father, Allen Frank Peters of Hartsville; mother and step–father, Linda and Roy Outlaw of Hartsville; sister, Lindsie Outlaw of Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Landon Davis.
MARGARET ELLIS
BETHUNE — Graveside services for Margaret Guy Ellis, 83, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Brannon cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cockrell officiating, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ellis, widow of Jacob Blease Ellis Sr., died Wednesday, Oct. 13. Born in Hartsville, she was a daughter of the late W. G. and Bertha Gardner Guy. She was a member of Bethune Baptist Church. The family would like to send a special thank you for the love and care that was given by those who cared for Margaret during her stay at Tanglewood. May God bless each and every one of the staff that helped Margaret. -
Surviving are her sister and brother–in–law, Mildred G. and S. B. Padgett of Lexington; granddaughter, Mellissa Ellis; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Eileen Bullion, Lois Dennis and brother, William Guy.
NATHANIEL STEVENSON
DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Nathaniel Robert Stank Tail Stevenson, 24, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Squire, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in New Providence United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Stevenson died Thursday, Oct. 14, after an accident on his job. He was born in New Jersey, a son of Victoria Stevenson and Nathaniel Lucas. He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools and was employed at Hartsville Oil Mill of Darlington in the Maintenance Department.
Survivors include his mother, Victoria Stevenson (Cleveland) Garner of New Haven, Conn.; his father, Nathaniel Lucas of Darlington; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Phyllis S. Brunson of Darlington; two sisters, Amy Stevenson (James ) and Ivory Stevenson; a brother, Michael Stevenson, all of Darlington; three aunts, Dana S. Brown, Deloris S. (Frank) Dolford and Emily Lee Kelly, all of Darlington; a devoted grand–aunt, Katie Mae Thomas of Darlington; nine uncles, Willie, Bobby, Calvin and Albert Stevenson, Alton (Shirley) Kelley, Charles, Robert, Daryl Stevenson, Uncle Possom; grand–uncles, Sonny (Pat) and Isaac (Parlene) ; a niece, Taliyala; a host of cousins, his companion, Contreese McNeil.
JANE WINDHAM
LAMAR — Funeral services for Jane McKelvey Windham, 76, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in the Kistler–Hardee Funeral Home chapel in Lamar, conducted by the Revs. Ron Lee and William Taylor. Interment followed in Lamar cemetery.
Mrs. Windham died Sunday, Oct. 17. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Edward and Daisy Belle Weaver Jessop. Mrs. Windham was married
to the late Clarence Bud Windham. She was a member of the Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a nurse at Carolina Hospital for many years.
Survivors include her brothers–in–law and wives, Carl Son (Cindy) Windham, Robert Shot (Linda) Windham, John Moto (Peggy) Windham, Ted (Kathy) Windham, and Willie James (Mahala) Windham, all of Lamar; her sisters in–law and their husbands, Ruby (Ray) Bailey of Darlington, Mattie (Ray) Poston of Pamplico, Edith Atkinson of Lynchburg, Mary (Leon) Shoemake of Hartsville, and Clarence (Benny) Clifton of Columbia; one aunt, Bill Grimes of Pikeville, N.C.; and two very special caregivers, Gracie Wack and Joretta Rogers as well as a host of other loving relatives.
MAYBELE MURPHY
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Maybelle Murphy, 104, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence on Dallas Street, Fayetteville, N.C.

Funeral services for Maybelle Coot Murphy, 104, were 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Ms. Murphy died Tuesday, Oct. 19, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Kershaw County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Precila Alison Murphy. She received her education in the Kershaw County public school system and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Queen Ester Murphy of Fayetteville, N.C., and Katie Moorehead of Charlotte, N.C.; one niece, Annie Lee Horton of McBee; 16 grandchildren; 45 great–grandchildren; 45 great–great grandchildren and a host of other close relatives and friends.
LEVERN WOODS JR.
LAMAR — Funeral services for Levern Woods Jr., 38, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Lamar. The Rev. Daniel McGhaney will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Oct. 15, between the hours of 6 and 7.
Levern Woods Jr., affectionately called Chico, was born in Florence County, a son of Celectine Lowe and the late Levern Woods Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County and graduated from Hartsville High School in 1984. He continued his education at Benedict College in Columbia. He was first a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church.
Levern was united in holy matrimony to Sharon McGhaney at the home of his mother on June 11, 2002. He later joined Bethany Fellowship Baptist Church in Mayesville. He worked various jobs in and around the area. He loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed making things for his family.
Chico was a fun loving and kind person. He enjoyed making others laugh. He was a music lover and during his high school years was one of the most talented drummers in the high school band. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving to cherish his loving memory, in addition to his mother, Celestine Lowe of Lamar, are his wife, Sharon M. Woods of Mayesville; his step–children, Sharrod McGhaney and Shakeylia McGhaney of Mayesville; three daughters, Ala Torya V. Crandford of Augusta, Ga., Vernisha Woods of Lamar and Novella Martin of Hartsville; one son, Levern Woods III of Lamar; two sisters, Jackie (Paul) Bailey of Hartsville, and Janice (Calvin) Jacobs of Darlington; one brother, Kennedy (Louise Johnson) Woods of Hartsville; his great aunt, Eva Nichols of Lamar; his godmother, Sharion Nichols of Lamar; his father–in–law, the Rev. Daniel McChaney of Sumter; his sisters–in–law, Michelle (Randall) Jennings, Valerie (the Rev. Leroy) Commander, Tonya (Wayne) Johnson and Sylvia (Derrick) Walker; his brother–in–law, the Rev. Daryl (Vivian) McGhaney; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and very dear friends.
JOHNNY LEE DOWDY SR.
Funeral services for Johnny Lee Dowdy Sr., 52, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Kay Branch Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Dowdy died Saturday, Oct. 9, in Douglasville, Ga. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Margaret Dowdy McFarland and the late Buddy Tedder. He was educated in the Darlington County public school system and was a 1971 graduate of Hartsville High. He was a member of Kay Branch Baptist Church.
Mr. Dowdy was a retired truck driver with Land Air Transport and was also employed with Brockington Masonry.
Surviving other than his mother of Hartsville, are his wife, Mary Esther Dowdy of Hartsville; two daughters, Maria Toni Briggs of Hartsville and Lakendra Brown of Darlington; three sons, Nathan J. Phillips, Deon Jay Briggs and Johnny Dowdy Jr., all of Hartsville; a step–daughter, Lonola (Stan) Halyard of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Willie (Ruby) Dowdy of Teaneck, N.J., and James Dowdy Sr. of Hartsville and a host of other close relatives and friends.
