FREDRICK L. KIND

Funeral services for Fredrick Lamont Kind, 19, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Second Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Kind died Wednesday, Nov. 24. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Eva Mae Kind and Bennie Nickelson and was a graduate of Hartsville High School.

Surviving other than his mother and father of Hartsville are a sister, Erica Vashell Kind; a brother, Lorenzo Rodell Kind, both of Hartsville; maternal grandmother, Pauline Kind of Brooklyn, N.Y., and maternal great–grandmother, Estelle Abraham of Hartsville; maternal grandfather, Henry Junior Kind of Sumter; four uncles, John (Vonoka) Kind and Leroy Kind, both of Hartsville, Tracey Nickelson of Bishopville and Ellie (Lucertia) of Prince George, Va.; six aunts, Gloria (Ricke) Richardson, Evelyn Harkless, Missy Nickelson and Kimberly (Robert) Phillips, all of Hartsville, Ginny (June) Bacote of Charlotte, N.C., and Malissa (Perry) Ellis of Columbia; two nieces, Jadasia Dalla and Deajatne Love, both of Hartsville; two nephews, Zavion Kind and Jaquan Kind, both of Hartsville, and a host of other close relatives and friends.

WILLIE JEFFERY

DARLINGTON — Willie Skirt Jeffery died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Mitchell–Josey Funeral Home. The family is receiving friends at the residence at 506 W. McIver Road, Darlington.

RODNEY LARYMORE

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Rodney Dean Larymore, 44, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 1, 2004, at Mechanicsville Baptist Church with interment following in Swift Creek cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Larymore died Monday, Nov. 22, after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, son of Willard Tracy and Ella Louise Terry Larymore. He was an electrician and attended Mechanicsville Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Darlington are his son, Willard Cecil Larymore; two daughters, Crystal Larymore and Melissa Larymore, all of Darlington; three brothers, Tracy (Debbie) Larymore of Hartsville, Michael (Renee) Larymore and Glenn Larymore both of Darlington; two sisters, Linda (Joey) Clark and Brandy Larymore, also of Darlington.

Memorials are suggested to McLeod Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

WALTER LYONS

DARLINGTON — Walter D. Lyons, age 81, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in a Florence Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 1, at First Church of The Nazarene in Florence, with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. Lyons was born in Chesterfield County, son of the late William Edward and Mary Morris Lyons. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired truck driver. Mr. Lyons was a member of First Church of The Nazarene. He was married to the late Viola Brock Lyons.

Surviving are three sons, David Lyons Sr. of Rockwood Tenn., Donnie Lyons of Goose Creek, Marty Lyons of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Wanda L. Brockway of Florence, Jeanie L. Sartin of Echols, W. Va., Judy Bailey of Florence, and Dawn Lyons of Hendersonville, N.C.; 20 grandchildren and 20 great–grandchildren; also a brother, Jules T. Lyons of Charlotte, N.C.

NEILL McLAURIN

DARLINGTON — Neill D. McLaurin Jr., 81, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. Graveside funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, in Drake cemetery, Blenheim, directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mr. McLaurin was born in Blenheim, son of the late Neill D. McLaurin Sr. and Lucy

Culbreth McLaurin. He was married to the late Lucille Matheson McLaurin. Mr. McLaurin served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring in 1969. He served during World War II and the Vietnam War. He was assistant superintendent of custodial services of Francis Marion College for 13 years and was a member of the VFW, The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) and of Blenheim United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Charles Duncan (Betty) McLaurin of Fayetteville, N.C.; six nephews, Frank E. Willis of Florence, Johnny Willis of Darlington, Charles D. McLaurin Jr. of El Paso, Texas, James W. McLaurin of Fayetteville, N.C., Cass Felps of Baton Rouge, La., Philipp Weissmann of Darlington and two nieces, Martha Willis Ray of Florence and Becky McLaurin Miller of Fayetteville, N.C.

Mr. McLaurin was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Willis.

FOSTER TEDDER

Graveside services for Murray Foster Tedder, 94, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth W. Phelps officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, PO Box 56, Lydia, SC 29079.

Mr. Tedder died Sunday, Nov. 28. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Maybelle Andrews Tedder. He had been married 62 years to his high school sweetheart, Thelma Elizabeth Norwood, when she died in 1992.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Foster and Thelma became widely known as the ones near Lydia and Oates with all of the outdoor Christmas lights. Before the trend of displaying expansive outdoor Christmas lights was popular, they shared their love of Christmas excitement by transforming their country home and yard into a winter wonderland with thousands of twinkling white lights amid delightful sounds of Christmas music.

A true southern gentleman who enjoyed farming, Foster also was one of the first in his community to own and utilize a tractor to break and plow land in the 1940s, and a self–propelled tobacco harvester in the early 1950s. -

Surviving are his daughter and son–in–law, Dorothy and T. Bruce Smith II of Bishopville; brother, Stanford Tedder; sisters, Odelia Moulton and Gladys Beckham; grandchildren, Kimberly Elizabeth and Brian Vogt of Winter Park, Fla., Fostina D'Laine and Jimmy Walsh of Green Sea, Foster Fritzgerald and Dona Smith of Bishopville; great–grandchildren, Amanda Mandy Vogt, John Vogt, Margaret Peggy Vogt, Mary Catherine Smith Littleton, Juliana Kay Williams, Thomas Bruce Drew Smith, Chase Fritzgerald Smith, Tyler Anthony Smith and Jetsen Donald Smith.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Cole, Howard, and Bonnie; grandson, Thomas Thres Bruce (wife Marian) Smith III, who died in 1986.

MILDRED REYNOLDS

Funeral services for Mildred Fannie Flowers Reynolds, 77, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery. -Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Lawton Building Fund, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.

Mrs. Reynolds died Friday, Nov. 26. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Wallie Lee and Mamie Sparrow Flowers. She retired from Sonoco Products Co. in 1988 with 40 years of service, having worked in the Cone Department for 16 years, with her last job as a production scheduler. As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, she was a member of the Deborah–Dorcas Sunday School class, a past member of the Sanctuary Choir and was very active with the annual Missions Bazaar and other committees.

Mrs. Reynolds enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking, but most importantly her 54 years of marriage to her devoted husband. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Marvin L. Reynolds Jr. of Hartsville; son and daughter–in–law, Dr. Lester and Lori Reynolds of Hartsville; daughters and sons–in–law, Dr. Susan Reynolds and Dr. Albert Cannon of Hartsville, Laura and Anthony Harris of Cheraw; sister, Dorothy Mugele of Rock Hill; grandchildren, David Reynolds, Anna Reynolds, Tony Harris, Lawton Harris and Margaret Jean Harris.

BARBARA DIAZ

Funeral services for Barbara Truett Diaz, 52, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Daniels officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery.

Mrs. Diaz died Thursday, Nov. 25. Born in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Roxie Stallans Linton and the late Woodrow Martin. She was a member of Newman Swamp Baptist Church. -

Surviving are her daughters and son–in–law, Tammy and Ronnie Dickerson of West Palm Beach, Fla., Michelle Truett Willis of Coward, Annette Truett of Kernersville, N.C.; mother of Bishopville; sisters, Beverly Jefferson and Nora Capps of Bishopville, Anna Farmer and Hilda Jacobs of Hartsville, Brenda Martin of Sevierville, Tenn.; brother, Dean Martin of Sevierville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Martin.

RUTH GAINEY

Funeral services for Ruth Gainey, 59, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Pine Ridge Church of God of Prophecy. Burial was in Gainey cemetery, directed by Miller–Rivers–Caulder Funeral Home Inc.

Miss Gainey died Friday, Nov. 26. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Maxie Glen and Lillie Alma Gardner Gainey. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gainey; a grandchild, Shannon Gainey; two brothers, Glen and Eugene Gainey; two sisters, Shelby McManus and Edith Cole.

Survivors are one sister, Annie Wilkes of Hartsville; two grandsons, Scott and Travis Gainey of Conway and a number of nieces and nephews.

BARBARA W. HENRY

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Barbara Williamson Henry, 56, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in the chapel of Boatwright's Chapel On Main with the Rev. Dr. Donald L. Hughes presiding and the Rev. James W. Kelly as eulogist.

Ms. Henry died Tuesday, Nov. 23. She was born in Newark, N.J., a daughter of Arthur and Anceline Williamson. She was a graduate of the Newark School System and New Jersey Vocational School with a degree in accounting/bookkeeping. She was employed as a general manager at Farber Distributor in New Jersey.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Darlington are a brother, Arthur Williamson Jr.; sisters, Janice Terry and Diane Pauley; numerous other relatives and friends.

SARA A. WILSON

DARLINGTON — Funeral services for Sara Alice Welch Wilson, 72, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Kistler–Hardee Chapel conducted by Reverend Donald Wayne Bud Boatwright with burial following in Grove Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson died Monday, Nov. 22. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late John and Almeta Segars Welch Riles. She was a homemaker and wonderful mother and wife. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, the Epworth Ladies Aid, the Elizabeth Taylor Sunday School Class and the church Administrative Board. She also was a volunteer with the Red Cross for many years.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Welch, and a sister, Margaret Welch.

Survivors include her husband, Earle B. Wilson Jr. of the home; two sons, Earle B. (Kathy) Wilson III of Temple Terrace, Fla. and Charles K. (Holly) Wilson of Wilmington, N.C.; two daughters, Kelley (Julian) Dickerson and Vicki (Jimmy) Norwood, both of Darlington; two brothers, Clyde C. (Edna) Welch of Dalzell and the Rev. William C. Welch of North; one step–sister, Dorothy Cook of Darlington and eight grandchildren, Emily and Earle Wilson, Chad and Chase Wilson, Rhodes and Bryant Dickerson and Tori and Cole Norwood.

Memorials may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church, 706 Pearl Street, Darlington, SC 29532.

ERNEST LOWRY

DARLINGTON — Graveside funeral services for Ernest Lowry, 87, were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Grove Hill cemetery. The Revs. Leroy Lowery and Bud Boatwright officiated.

Mr. Lowry died Nov. 25. He was born in Darlington County on May 4, 1917, and was the son of the late Joseph Van Metre Lowry and Harriett Linnie Swann Lowry.

Mr. Lowry graduated from St. John's High School where he was salutatorian of his class. He was a member of the St. John's Orchestra and a first chair violinist. After graduating from high school Mr. Lowry married his wife of 63 years, Pearl Lee Ogburn, and began his career at the Darlington Manufacturing Co. Later he went to work at the Dixie Cup Division of American Can Co., from which he retired after many years. Mr. Lowry was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and past master of St. David's Masonic Lodge No. 72. He was a man of many talents. He enjoyed music, reading and collecting books, traveling, woodworking, playing chess, and building and restoring clocks.

Survivors include his wife and five children, Dianne (Craig) Stephens of Darlington, Susan (Jack) Bertram of Atlanta, Ga., Josie (Tommy) Davis of Florence, Ernest Lee Lowry and Marion (Cindy) Lowry of Darlington. In addition, he is also survived by his sister, Sara L. Howle of Darlington; six grandchildren, Vickie (George) Standish, Robin (Joey) Schrecker, Amy Davis, Tommy Davis, Ricky Lowry and Benji Lowry. Also surviving are four great–grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Epworth United Methodist Church Men's Club and the brothers of St. David's Masonic Lodge No. 72 AFM.

The family suggests memorials to Epworth United Methodist Church, 706 Pearl St., Darlington, SC 29532 or to the Billie Hardee Home for Boys, PO Box 617, Darlington, SC 29540.
