TOSSIE GRANTHAM

Graveside services for Tossie Grantham Lee, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Westview Memorial cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Rev. Charles McLendon will officiate. Visitation will be tonight from 6–8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lee died Dec. 9. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Colon & Betsy Polson Grantham.

Surviving are three sons, Hyman & Charles Lee of Hartsville and Robert Lee of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene C. Lee.

THEODORE L. HOPKINS

Funeral services for Theodore Lee Punk Hopkins, 61, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge (Hartsville) . The Revs. Darrell Bogatay, Wallace Strickland, Don Childers and Billy Campbell officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Hopkins died Wednesday, Dec. 1. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late David Brock and Eadie Belle Hall Hopkins. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge and was a member of PALS.

Surviving are his sisters and spouse, Sandra Faye Hopkins of Hartsville, Sharon and Terry Matheny of Florence; brothers and spouses, Brockie Hopkins Jr. of Hartsville, LaHarve Bud Hopkins, H.R. Pete and Carolyn Hopkins, all of Hartsville, William E. and Sarah Hopkins of Union. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Brantley Red Hopkins, and his sister, Ida Mae Hopkins.

EMMIE SHAW

Funeral services for Emmie Kneese Winburn Shaw, 69, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Griggs and Grover Johnson officiating. Entombment in Westview Memorial Park cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 1569 Ruby Road, Hartsville, SC 29550, or the Cardiopulmonary Care Department, Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Shaw, widow of Charles Russell Shaw Sr., died Friday, Dec. 3. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late John Ousley and Olivia Griggs Winburn. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She attended the Robert L. Robbins Sunday School Class and was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church U.M.V. She was employed for 27 years at Byerly Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist in the Cardiopulmonary Care Department. She was a caring and dedicated citizen to this community and to the church.

Surviving are her son, Charles Russell Shaw Jr. of Hartsville; granddaughter, Cari Renee Shaw of Hartsville; daughter, Dr. Patricia Anne Shaw of Bishopville; sister and brother–in–law, Faye and Joe Harding of Silverton, Ore.; brother and sister–in–law, William Dock and Helen Winburn of Patrick; sister–in–law and brother–in–law, Mildred and Alton Campbell of Camden.

JACKY CAMPBELL

McBEE — Funeral services for Donald Richard Jacky Campbell, 63, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip Watry officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

Mr. Campbell died Thursday, Dec. 2. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late James Columbus and Ellen Rogers Campbell. He was married for 44 years to Peggy and was the love of her life.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Sullivan Campbell of McBee; son and daughter–in–law, James Columbus and Tish Knight Campbell of Cheraw; daughter and son–in–law, Denise Noot and Tony Wicker of Oak Island; sisters, Tina Cassidy of Sugarloaf Mountain, Sarah Koot Campbell of Hartsville; brother, Jimmy Campbell of Pine Ridge; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Ann Steen.

GUERRY M. YOCHUM

CHARLESTON — Funeral services for Guerry Mullis Yochum, 48, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in St. Andrews Church, Mt. Pleasant. Burial was private and held at a later date, directed by Carolina Memorial Funeral Home of North Charleston.

Ms. Yochum died Thursday, Dec. 2, at a local hospital. She was born on May 19, 1956, in Columbia. She worked for Eckerd Drug Store as a pharmacy technician. She held a degree in medical technology from MUSC. Ms. Yochum was a member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Patsy (Nyle) Martin of Mt. Pleasant, Martha (Le) Flowers of Darlington; nephews, Hampton Martin and Will Martin, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Jordan Flowers of Darlington; and a niece, Julia Flowers of Darlington.

She was predeceased by her parents, John E. Yochum and Anne Mullins Yochum, and a brother, John E. Yochum Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Fund at St. Andrews Church, 440 Whilden St., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or Hartsville Interfaith Ministries, 210 Swift Creek Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.

GENE OGLE

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Funeral services for Vertus Eugene Gene Ogle, 78, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd. Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Mr. Ogle died Sunday, Dec. 5. Born in Hildebran, N.C., he was a son of the late Vernon LaVertus and Katie Young Ogle. He had a grand sense of humor and was always joking with everyone.

Surviving is his wife, Lessie Hunter Ogle of Wilmington, N.C.; daughters, Pamela M. Ogle of Raleigh, N.C., and Holly S. Ogle of Wilmington, N.C.

GERALDINE WALL

CHICAGO, Ill. — Geraldine Wall, nee Feeney, 98, wife of the late Dr. John C. Wall, died Dec. 3, 2004. She was the loving mother of Dolores (Robert) Murphy, Geraldine (the late James) Stocks, Rita (Harry) Moran of Hartsville, Dr. Jack (Ann) , Dr. Pete (Laura) , Josie (Jack) Kiley, Jim (Terry) , Bob (Carole) and Jeanne (John) Krichbaum; proud grandmother of 53; and great–grandmother of 120; a dear sister–in–law of Betty Reilly and aunt, Ann (Arch) Gott, and friend of many.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosary Hill Home, 9000 W. 81st St., Justice, Ill, 60458.

SARAH EDITH SAWYER

FLORENCE — Sarah Edith Hudson Sawyer, 54, died at her home Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home of Darlington with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Sawyer was born in Florence County, daughter of Jim and Sarah Bailey Hudson. She was a housewife. Mrs. Sawyer will be missed for her enduring love for her family.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Florence are her husband, Roger L. Sawyer of Florence; daughters, Laura A. Sawyer and Wendy S. (Van) Baird, all of West Columbia; grandchildren, Sarah–Ashley and Carolyn Baird of West Columbia; sister, Stella Borders of Florence; brothers, James Hudson and William Hudson, both of Florence.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.

LAFAYETTE THOMAS

LAMAR — Lafayette Kennedy Thomas, 61, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at her residence. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Lamar cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Walterboro, daughter of the late Everet and Beverly McKnight Kennedy. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, William Billy Thomas of Lamar; two sons, Stephen (Terri) Reynolds of Lamar, Aaron L. Bubba (Rachel) Reynolds Jr. of Camden; a step–son, William Thomas III of Sardis; six grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy (Shirley) Kennedy and Charles (Carolyn) Kennedy, all of Florence; a sister, Jean (George) Ward of Florence.

ARTHUR LEE McCALL JR.

DARLINGTON — Funeral service for Mr. Arthur Lee Ted McCall Jr. of Darlington will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 4, 2005, in Tabernacle Worship Center.

Burial will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens, directed by Mitchell Josey Funeral Home Inc.

Mr. McCall, 47, died Sunday, Jan. 30, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of Dorothy Gurley McCall and the late Arthur Lee McCall Sr.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools and worked as a farmer.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy McCall of the home; two sisters, Sheila McCall of Atlanta, Ga., and Georgianna (Napoleon) McCray of New Jersey; six brothers, Christopher McCall, Eric Keith, both of Atlanta, Ga., Vincent McCall, Derrick Jackson, Ronnie Lighty and Donnie Lighty, all of Darlington; maternal grandmother, Lucille Gurley Ceaser of Darlington; eight aunts, Betsy Ann Gurley, Edith Hicks, Elizabeth Gee, Ralphine Depugh, Mildred McCall, Carolyn Gurley, Betty Spears and Estell Gurley; two uncles, Alphonzo Gurley and Douglas Gurley; a grandaunt, Mary Green; nieces; nephews and cousins.

The family is receiving friends at the home of an aunt, Carolyn Gurley of 804 Chestnut Street, Darlington.

AURELIA G. HUGGINS

Funeral services for Aurelia Gainey Huggins, 90, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Robert Cline officiated with burial in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home. - Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550. -

Mrs. Huggins, widow of Woodrow Huggins, died Tuesday, Feb. 1. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late P. M. and Mattie Webb Gainey.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was previously involved in the Junior Department, Morning Missions Circle and the Golden Fellowship. She was retired from Economy Drug and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her sons and daughters–in–law, Tommy and Elaine Huggins of Andalusia, Ala.; Kenneth and Ruth Huggins of Hartsville; grandchildren, Maria McTighe, Tony Huggins, Mandy King, Woody Huggins; six great–grandchildren.

LILA WINGATE–AGEE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Graveside services for Lila Mae Wingate–Agee were held 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville.

Mrs. Agee was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Harvey and Marie Lunn Robinson. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County.

Surviving are her eight children, Patricia W. Dixon of Richmond, Va., Bryan (Kiamesa) Wingate of New Haven, Conn., Joseph (Sandra) Wingate and Randy Wingate, both of Danville, Va., Larry (Sandra) Wingate of Ferdricksburg, Va., Melvin (Deborah) Wingate, Ronald (Valerie) Wingate and Tyrone Wingate, all of Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, Bishop Leroy Robinson; a sister, Evelena (Bishop) Mitchie of Charlottesville, Va.

JAMES LANNIE JACOBS

BENNETTSVILLE — Funeral services for James Lannie Jacobs, 74, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Daniel Chapel Holiness Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Rogers Funeral Home.

Mr. Jacobs died Friday, Jan. 28. He was born in Marlboro County, a son of Mary Jacobs and the late Clydia Jacobs. He retired with Becker Sand & Gravel.

Survivors are mother, Mary Jacobs of Bennettsville; three sons, Wayne Jacobs of Cheraw, Jody Jacobs of Effingham and Caleb Jackson of Bennettsville; two daughters, Patricia Howle of Cheraw and Sarah Haselden of Hartsville; a sister, Mandora Hargrove of McColl; 13 grandchildren and four great–grandchildren.
