McBEE — Funeral services for Roland Brownell, 74, who died Jan. 25, 2005, were held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Brownell was born in Sandusky, Ohio, a son of the late Benjamin and Lillian Mae Olemacher Brownell. After returning from service in the Korean War, he owned and operated Barney's Trucking Co. and worked as a diesel mechanic for 35 years. After retiring, Barney and Shirley moved and retired to South Carolina. Barney was loved by all of his family and friends. He was an engineer with the Perkins Township Fire Department for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Wilkinson Brownell of McBee; daughters, Joni Marsh of McBee and Toni Ledbetter of Buford, Ga.; brother, Fred Brownell, Sandusky, Ohio; sisters, Willowdean Judge, Betty Likes and Marrion Beese, all of Sandusky, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale R. Brownell, and two sisters.
MICHAEL HOWLE
Funeral services for Michael Bucky Howle, 27, who died Jan. 26, 2005, will be held today, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. from the Cedar Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Homer Hinson, George Howle and Buddy Amerson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Bucky was born in Darlington County, a son of Judy Powell Howle and the late Charles Laverne Howle. He was a graduate of McBee High School, member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, loved to attend church, sing and listen to Gospel music. Surviving are his mother of Hartsville; maternal grandmother, Zeda Smith of Hartsville; several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by a brother Chris Howle.
MARY CARROWAY
Funeral services for Mary L. Carroway will be held today, Jan. 28, 2005, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Curtis Cantey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville.
Mrs. Carroway was born in Darlington County, on Sept. 30, 1927, a daughter of the late Orin and Carrie L. Jackson. She peacefully entered her final resting place on Jan. 23, 2005, at Morrell Convalescent Center in Hartsville.
She received her formal education in the Darlington County public school system.
At an early age, Mrs. Carroway, along with her husband left South Carolina and lived in Durham, N. C. for 10 years. They later moved to Washington, D.C., and lived there until 1995.
She was a member of Rhode Island Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and was a member and served as the treasurer of the Helping Hands Club. She was employed at Towers Condominium for 30 years.
Meana as she was affectionately called by her family and friends was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great–grandmother, aunt as well as a great friend to many. She had a glorious smile that could warm the heart of anyone that she encountered.
Three of her sisters, Sara M. Scott, Lottie M.Wesley and Maydonia Ings and three brothers, David Wilson, Willie Jackson and J.W. Jackson preceded her in death.
Those surviving to cherish her loving memories are her daughter, Mary Murray of Hartsville; five grandchildren, Diana T. Jackson and Christina Graham, both of Darlington, Celestine (James) Beamon of Cincinnati, Ohio, Roslyn (Shamar) Gray of Corona, Calif., and Christopher (Lorraine) Murray of Wilmington, N.C.; two aunts, Lena Scott and Louisa Wheeler, both of Hartsville; seven great–grandchildren, Alexis King, A.J. Murray, James E. Beamon, Sharoderick Murray, Vanessa Beamon, Ashley Gray and Janay E. Gray; and a host of other family members and very dear friends.
ANNIE MAE ROBINSON
New YORK, N.Y. — Annie Mae Robinson, formally of Hartsville, died on Wednesday in a New York Hospital after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc.

DARLINGTON — James Smitty Smith, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in McCoy Nursing Center after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at 3417 New Hopewell Road, Darlington.
ROSA LEE JAMES
BISHOPVILLE — Funeral services for Rosa Lee James, 83, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Jan. 28, 2005, at The Living Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith Inc. in McBee. Burial will be in Pine Forest Memorial cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. James died Sunday, Jan. 23, at McCoy Nursing Center in Bishopville after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late David and Dessie Shirley Miles. She received her education in the Darlington County public school systems.
Mrs. James was a member of The Living Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith and served as church mother.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara (James) Davis of McBee, and Patricia James of West Columbia; two sons, B.L. James of Columbia and Ernest (Ethel) James of McBee; five grandchildren, Latondra (Richard) Johnson, Tirrel James and Akilah James, all of McBee, Jarvis Davis of Charleston and Rashaad Burgess of Charlotte, N.C.; three great–grandchildren, Chloe, Gabrielle and Kalb Johnson, all of McBee; nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
MORRELL L. THOMAS JR.
DARLINGTON — Graveside services for Morrell L. Thomas Jr., owner and publisher of The News and Press in Darlington, will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Jan. 28, 2005, at Mt. Elon Baptist Church cemetery near Lydia, directed by Kister–Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas died Monday, Jan. 24.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Darlington Presbyterian Church, 311 Pearl St., Darlington, SC 29532.

JAMES LEE SANSBURY
BEAUFORT — Funeral services for James Jim Lee Sansbury, 58, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Burial was in Beaufort National cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Sansbury died Monday, Jan. 24. He was born on Dec. 1, 1946 in Mullins, a son of the late Isaac W. Sansbury and Louise Livingstone Sansbury. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a certified water/ wastewater operator across the southeastern U.S. for more than 20 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Tina L. Griggs of Beaufort; his companion, Jean Herrington of Beaufort; two step–sons, Johnny Maxim and Randy Maxim of Maine; two brothers, Edwin Sansbury of Raleigh, N.C., Gene Pete Sansbury of Columbia; and three step–grandchildren.

JANIE MAE GIBSON
Janie Mae Gibson died on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The family will receive friends at the residence at Apt. Q–1 South Park Apartments.
JOSHUA COLBY WRIGHT
Funeral services for Joshua Colby Wright, 10, who died Jan. 21, 2005, were held Monday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Darryl Bogatay, Gregg Griffin and John Griggs officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Colby was born in Florence County, the son of Mitchell and Tammy Froese Wright. He was a fifth–grade student in Mrs. Adams class at Robert E. Lee, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, a member of 2004 Hartsville National 9– and 10–year–old All Star Baseball Team. He loved hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.
Surviving are his parents of the home; brother, Brantley Wright and custodial sister Jenna Fields, both of Hartsville; paternal grandparents, Sammy and Margaret Wright Cranford of Hartsville; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gay Froese Ciuffetelli of Hartsville; maternal great–grandparents, Betty Vulliety of Poplarville, Miss., Faye and Allen Froese of Houston, Texas; maternal great–great grandparent, Bea Momma B Atwood, Poplarville, Miss.; several aunts and uncles; a very special friend, Preston Lane.
He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Ernest Wright, and maternal grandfather, Tex Froese.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1909 W. BoBo Newsom Highway, Hartsville, SC 29550.
WELDON WARREN
DARLINGTON — Weldon F. Warren Sr., 84, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Jan. 26, in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Grove Hill cemetery.
Mr. Warren was born in Hartsville, son of the late Tollie Franklin and Pearl Goodson Warren. Mr. Warren spent 27 months overseas with the U.S. Army during World War II. He then worked for Dixie Cup and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline McCutcheon Warren, of the home; two daughters, Patsy (Johnny) Lewis of Lexington, Ky., and Karen (Allen) Moore of Darlington; a son, Franklin Bubba (Melissa) Warren of Darlington; five grandchildren, Chris Lewis, Blaine Lewis, Dalton Grant, Fallyn Warren and Megan Floyd; four great–grandchildren; a sister, Blondelle Yow of Flint, Mich.
Mr. Warren was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

LANNIE MAE DAVIS
LAMAR — Funeral services for Lannie Mae Davis were held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles K. Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the John Wesley United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc.
Mrs. -Davis was born in Timmonsville on June 7, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Sidney and Estelle Faith Williams. She was educated in the public schools of Florence County. On Nov. 17, 1945, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Clyde Jasper Davis Sr. She was employed as a sewing machine operator until her retirement.
She was a member of the Faithful Workers No. 229 and the Order of the Eastern Star of Lamar for more than 50 years. She was a hard worker and a dedicated member. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Lamar where she served on the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was an active and dedicated member of the Lamar Senior Center. She enjoyed making quilts and giving them to family and friends.
After moving to Madison, Ga., she joined, under watch care, with St. Paul AME Church, where she worshipped until her health failed. She was a woman who loved people and especially loved the Lord. One of her grandchildren and two of her great–grandchildren preceded her in death.
Surviving to cherish her memory are three sons, Marion (Christine) Williams and Clyde (Rhonda) Davis Jr. of Bronx, N.Y., and Charles (Sheletha) Davis of Harker Heights, Texas; four daughters, Sara Rovena McFadden of Bronx, N.Y., Clarice (Burnett) Woods and Marvis Sandy Davis both of Madison, Ga., and Alyne Nickie Carraway of Lamar; one brother, Sidney Williams of Staten Island, N.Y.; two brothers–in–law, Clayton (Julia) Davis of Bennettsville and Pearly Mack of Darlington; a special friend who will miss her dearly, Elizabeth McQuillar of Dalzell; 18 grandchildren, 23 great–grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very dear friends.

McBEE — Rosa Lee James, 83 died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in McCoy Nursing Facility after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at 168 Southside Drive.
